Here's Chad Smith and Flea jamming at Flea Bass (Flea's Bass company) during Winter NAMM 2009. Our crew was lucky enough to get right next to Chad Smith during this jam, what a great moment!

That glass screen is to prevent the full power of their funk connecting, resulting in a lethal explosion of purity, ultimately bringing everyone to their musical demise.
Ya, or, they dont want Flea humping Chad's leg
Or flying drumsticks.😂
And they would call it a terrorist attack. XD
He plays ghost notes like a boss!
Charlie L U know the funky shit 👍. Is originated on 'second line' from New Orleans and the african cadence of Babatunde Olatunji in drums.
Holy ghost notes
With just 2 cymbals, a hi-hat, two toms, a snare and a bass drum, Chad can produce such amazing drumming improvisations, just goes to show that you don't need an 18-piece metal drum set to rock it!
After the jam, Flea went and played nine holes of golf.
synthonaplinth 9? He’s dressed for the full 18!
This is flea waiting for his turn to tee off
can barely hear Flea but I know he was crushing it.. with a shirt on
People talk about John and Flea as the musical core as they are, that's indisputable but Chad is the true binding force behind the chili peppers. His drumming is an over looked facet of their sound. He makes them step up their game each and every time they hit the stage, so that when they step up to the plate, the whole band is rocking out of the gate like a racehorse. A good drummer will make you play better, fact. One of the greatest drummers of all time!
Flea and Chad made RHCP. Good rhytm section is true core of the every band. Guitarists of the RHCP never were not awesome, and Anthony isn't the best singer - they could just fool around, if just Flea and Chad played straight.
vieri031 When John left, which i am not discounting as an integral part to their sound, my point is is that Chad's drumming up's their game live. His drumming is spiritual. Anyway, when John left, Chad and flea could have gone with John to do his solo stuff too (which Flea did on some songs but Chad did not). Then they would be a three piece without Anthony playing only prog rock instrumental - THAT is what I wished happened instead of new guitarist and John as solo-act. But hey, they are a corporation entity now, they can't stop -pun intended- the money making machine.
Heck yeah! Drummers are the shit, and I say that as a guitar player. Playing with a good creative drummer is like opening my eyes to see that the celestial cosmos of possible rhythms has opened before me.
Coltrane Cat Thanks for your comment, it really does .... "open one's eyes" to the possibilities of widening one's creative expression of instrumentation. Interestingly I've been watching a lot of Tool interviews lately, and Adam Jones, the guitarist was talking about how crucial Danny' Carey's poly-rhythmic style of drumming was to the creation of the many complex sections of their songs which blossomed from out of the riffs that he andJustin Chancellor, the bassist, came up with the day before. In other words, the song-writing process for most, if not all, bands starts when you blend your guitar riffs and ideas with a drummer's sensibility of song-structure and dynamics, period. That's when the "peaks and valleys" in a song gets created, which keeps you listening and wanting more. Hey, best wishes for your band, you know, it's not easy to play with drummers sometimes because of the digital revolution, so cherish it and hopefully, you can write songs that satisfy your soul. Peace.
When chad first auditioned for the band he even then started leading flea when they were jamming couldn’t agree more
Ghost notes are perfect on the snare.
Jonathon Mayes what are ghost notes?
matze085 Those lighter strokes you hear between his major hits.

Its crazy how much better audio and video had gotten in such little time
Is great to know they don't need to be in a huge gig, arena or something massive to give the 100%, they just enjoy the music o/
u rock Chad!
this is why RHCP are in the RnR Hall of Fame..one of rock's all time best rhythm sections! Their chemistry is crazy! Loving this!
I like Chad's snare shuffles. Effortlessly :)
They really play as one. The musical telepathy going on here is on another level of live musical improv, as far as rock and popular music goes.. Been playing together for like 28 yrs and they keep getting better. They are real musicians
It's not a glass screen. It's a glass case of emotion.
AWESOME!!!!!
Proof that it's not the drums that make the drummer but the drummer who makes the drums.
Dave Favila lol the drums sound better than a 500$ dollars big kit
Does anyone claim otherwise?
@@boofert.washington2499 Well sometimes when you see beginning drummers with huge expensive kits who don't really know how to use em well... yeah there must be plenty of people who aren't true to themselves.
these drums sound terrible.
@@boofert.washington2499
Cheap drums aren't always bad especially if the drummer knows what they are doing but one MUST spend $$ on cymbals. Drums can be muffled bad cymbals scream .
Chad was born with those ghost notes!
I love how Chad always plays big on small drumkits. He makes drummers showing off with giant kits look ridiculous.
Drums are about the feel. The more sounds and space you have, the more creative you can be. Shame that so many closed minded people view it as "showing off"
the only difference is that the drummers with the giant kits can actually play
How many pieces your drum-kit has has ZERO to do with your skills. There are great and terrible drummers on both big and small kits. It's really about genre, options, and personal preference. Chad plays Funk-Rock/Pop. It is very uncommon in that genre to have a giant drumset.
*laughs in Neil Peart
ghost notes
Yeah apparently
These two are the epitome of a tight rhythm section.
Chad would be amazing to jam with.
19Luke89
19Luke89 I play like him 😁👌
Turn up Flea!!
Flea has clothes on. Somethings not right.
😂
I would love to hear chad play this kit during a concert. The dude is legit...
Favourite bass player and Favourite drummer.
I wouldn't be the same person if I never ever seen Chad Smith & Flea get DOWN.
Seriously one of the greatest and most talented rhythm sections you'll find in modern music. Period. Whether or not you're a RHCP fan, these two are still insanely talented and play off each other so naturally and intuitively to perfection.
...you need to get out more. this is shit compared to what professionals are doing.
I am one of those not-a-RHCP-fan, but still find this to be awesome.
(And what is Nunyez on about?)
Jeff Jeffery I believe it's called trolling.
It's called a reaction to a post that I disagree with. You'll typically see them all over youtube in comments sections.
But they are professionals.
It's awesome to see that their funk has never been interrupted, this could be on the Chad and flea show for sure.
wow even on a portable kit, chad smith can jam like a badass!
they be jamming like they are performing cx
Look like Flea just got off a shift at Target.
Chad is only getting better as a drummer, which is incredible considering how long he has been playing. It takes a lot of work and focus to be able to consistently get better over a span of 30 years. I would think his talent would top out at some point.. maybe he's at his peak now? Or he was in 2009?
George Kamil Naw the drumming sounds more refined in recent albums even if the chops are similar
George Kamil I’m “going on” as you put it, about how he sounds. Does that answer your question?
@George Kamil listen to chad Smith's bombastic meatbats. And just watch a few videos of him mang. Of course everybody has their own style but hes always building on it. He can be a technical jazz fusion drummer u will see if u listen to what I said.
This is what happens when two musicians learn about each other's styles. What I love about these guys' jams is the dynamic evolution. It's never a smooth ballad or a crazy funk rock shed, it's everything they know.
Chad Smith is a beast!! Outstanding!!
Chad Smith went to MI. and because of him and my buddy who graduated from there, i am enrolled. and my drum skills have improved! IM COMING SOON CHAD! :D
Just a drum n' bass jam with a million views! These guys kick major!
These two guys should start a band!
This could be the best I have ever heard them. Amazing.
just amazing
I love micro kits and I love Chads grace notes. This is a beautiful combo.
Is Chad a giant or the drums are really tinny ?
both lol
It's a break beat kinda kit lol so yea it's small
Looks like a kit from toys r us next to chad
+Memo
Both.
Chad Smith went to our school today
I love how Chad seamlessly transitions from rock to jazz drumming and back again throughout this jam!
Chad Smith is a monster!!!
Looks like a kids set and Chad could crush it at any moment.
Flea and Chad are crushin it...right on!!
I love Chad's drumming but damn I wanna here Flea too.
O entrosamento entre esses dois é simplesmente incrível
Phenomenal!
Chad Smith is a beast!
I could run into Flea at the grocery store and have no idea. Amazing players
Amazing C&F
Awesome!!!
Chad Smith is all about the groove
Some of the best chemistry between bassist and drummer I've heard.
Love you Chad !!!!
great vibe!!
I think I may have vastly underestimated Chad Smith as a drummer.
Me too. He’s like a jazz drummer here
Search him playing Black Sabbath with Post Malone on New Years Eve, Chad’s a beast
@@dash7man what insult to jazz drummers
@@alexgarza4513 it's not. Chad is an excellent funk rock drummer that clearly has jazz influence.
@@dylanwesley3964 he has zero taste in the way he plays. Jazz guys always have a very refined feel. He sounds like a 14 year old that just got his first drum set
Fantastic
More bass!!! what A jam.
Amazing Chad 🤘
dude this is sweet love Chad's drumming
The best bassist and drummer
he is so freakin tasteful. It's unbelievable
Chad as a drummer has really nice skills for improoving and soloing and sweet ghost notes feeling, real profesional, with Flea there are super consistent duad.

I love all the styles he adds
i think thats the least flea has moved on stage in like, forever
My God, Chad is my hero

Chad Smith is one Bad Ass drummer!
True but don't forget he holds the World Record for playing on the largest kit ever made!
the best
Is that a China cymbal to the left of the single tom on the bass drum??? It sounds INCREDIBLE!! I want to buy one!
Best shit ever.....Two of the best and most stylish and talented artist. Just down to earth and cool dudes.
WOW. Those two should be in a band together!
The best
CHECK OUT THE DOUBLE RIGHT HAND CRASH ON THE RIDE CYMBAL TIME STAMP 8:43 Hitting from the bottom on the way up and from the top on the way down. So sick. Love Chad Smith. Not only an awesome drummer but truly an awesome guy. I've been a huge fan since high school, jumping into my 1984 Volkswagen GTI and throwing the TDK cassette into the Alpine and cranking up the 6x9s to True Men Don't Kill Coyotes.
O cara toca muito mais é muito
improv perfection.
