Honestly the game explains jack shit. Apart from that AAM, especially radar guides ones, are kinda buggy and very unreliable.
I mean the mig21 does has a pretty advanced radar which is why he probably was trying to lock on low ALT. Way better than the f4’s and j35’s.
Day 110: play the Ju 87 B it’s had a sound change (one a the last few before the video comes out 😭😆)

@@TheRealSteve42 No, their radar have a much higher effectiveness in locking up targets than the F4, while maintaining its radar azimuth at all speeds....
Realistically as the radar cone retracts further into the Mig the Radar goes to a tighter and tighter beam
Also Russian Radar misses dont have the failure rate of sparrows, coming off the rail and then not tracking.....

This was a brilliant showcase of how top tier is actually quite good. The meta is there. It can be unfair. But most of the time. Its just good fun. High speed, fast action. And unexpected moments. You genuinely feel like a cold war pilot in the middle of the air battle that starts WW3.
Anyone who has played ace combat to a degree to come to warthunder already knows what they are doing. You can see the ace combat fans.

@@D_Azera i'm saying that because the title "flying missile" is reserved for MiG 21. MiG 25 and 31 are different, therefore there probably won't be a title one step above "the ultimate flying missile".

Day 10: play the bt-5 or bt-7 it’s been years
There’s an air museum a couple hours south of me called the air zoo and they have a Mig 21 outside and you can walk right up to it and touch it. There’s also a F-4, a S-3 viking and soon an OV-1 outside
The missile struggles with distinguishing background (actual ground) with the planes. Esp. if the plane is traveling perpindicular to ur plane. Dropping low, low to let the sky be the background helps for those low alt fights where you all aren't high enough for the background to be the sky for most angles

His thumbnails are normally hilarious and well thought out. He just hit 1mil subscribers and probably wants to keep it that way or something. I agree with you that is a very lax title. It’s usually meatball launcher or Russian ram rod or something funny.

Things will change again when the Russian Optical tracking missiles come out. That was one of the big deals with the Mig-29.They are short to medium air to air missile that can lock on to enemy planes by sight, are resistant to flares and chaff, and do not set off RADAR warnings.

The nice thing about r3r missiles against sparrows is that you can turn a bit but with the sparrows you have to stay in a straight line so it’s quite easy to head on missile against phantoms

how do you have your bindings set so that you activate the radar instead of the heatseeking and vice versa when locking?

Phly, the radar in the Mig-21BIS is probably not a pulse doppler radar. The difference to other radars is that a pulse doppler radar can filter out the ground and track targets that are moving towards or away from you (and also measure their speed). A conventional radar has a hard time when there is ground behind the target, it works best when the sky is behind the target.
I like how the mig21-bis never overheats on afterburner in game, but after two minutes it'd overheat irl, and after 3, it'd melt its engine
I mean the game doesn't model 1st and 2nd stage afterburner and it is just a game

Radar is OP for tracking. It just tracks everything solid. If you go up it can track well at long range but if you are close to the ground it doesnt work. Since the ground is solid

What’s your recommendation to purchase a jet, I have very little time and I used to play a lot of air combat sims, I have no time to grind.
Radar guided missiles do not work well at low altitude. When I first unlocked the AIM-7E I hated them. I then had the time to research usage and why they just did not work for me. Then I realized that they only work at higher altitudes. Preferably above 13,000 feet, with a 2 mile locking distance on the target. This was my research, if I'm wrong and anyone knows better ways to use them, I'd love to get feedback from other users.

3:40 This is how I mainly use R-3Rs, Since their max Overload is 10Gs. Took down quite a few Jets with this strategy

Early radars would have problems tracking targets with ground clutter in the background. Until the development of look down shoot down radar systems later on.
