Training on an F-86 and flying an F-104 is like passing your drivers test and then immediately joining Formula 1
you learn how to drive a padal boat and now your the captain of an aircraft carrier
F86 was also known as a widowmaker early in it's career - to this day, it's very easy to crash an F86 by over-rotating on takeoff. The difference is that the airframe was very mature and the kinks were worked out by the 1960s, whereas the F-104 was radically new and fundamentally unknown.

They are so thin and sharp on the leading edge they had to make special covers after several ground crew scalped themselves while working around the aircraft. True story.

I don’t know THAT much about Kelly, but he always struck me more as the “mad scientist” type, not the sneaky salesman type, given his focus on unusual, high risk/high reward aircraft: one of the first turbocharged production fighters. One of the first single engine Mach 2 fighters. The Fast as fucc boi. The Wobblin Goblin.

Germans were forced by the USA to buy F104 if they wanted to still be in the program of shared nuclear weapons, Lockheed also greased a lot of hands to sell this prototype jet when it wasn't even tested for weather condition in Germany and it also saved it from going bankrupt that's why all the rest of the former luftwaffe pilots/generals were so upset to see they chose this junk instead of the Mirage III that was exacly what they needed a multi-role Jet

Don't worry you can get this plane with 700 hours of f2p gameplay, not so much.
I chose to play only one nation. Otherwise I’d never get to the top br. It’s a really long grind but I like that I can keep and replay all the vehicles I unlock.

When parked, protective sheets where put on the wing's edges to prevent ground crew to cut them self and not putting dents on.
Phly you checked out the french 20mm helicopter yesterday, but now you gotta check out the American one! The AH-1F has a built-in 20mm that has double the fire rate as the french heli with the same penetration (55mm or armor). Oh, and it also has a ballistic computer for the hydras!
You gotta give the American one a try!

@@abowlofrice7787 germany only ever used 30 american made 104s, thats about 1/3rd of the total number of Ju388s ever made, a plane you only heard of because it weas added to war thunder. Even 104s from us final assembly lines were made up of european sub assemblies. NASMO and ODC are other topics you might want to look into.

Yes and no. It’s dangerous, but the Rockets were dangerous almost inherently due to their power plant, no matter how you flew it. The F-104 was a relatively good plane in its role, but because Lockheed was trying to get ALL the sales and Germany was not super smart about this, they decided to use it in a role it wasn’t intended for, with an under prepared Air Force.
Basically, if you use a hammer as a sewing needle, you’re gonna end up with a weird looking shirt

@@mitchie2267 no. Germany used them exactly the way the manufacturer advertized them! And Germany was the biggest customer to buy this plane.... many politicians were bought to get the plane sold! All Luftwaffe Generals knew it was a scam, hence otherwise the Americans would have bought more of them.
It had motor and controlls failing during low level training flights all the time.
If something could have been done to keep the plane in the air, it would have been done after the third or fourth unnessecarry dead pilot. Not all pilots died, there were many many F104 crashing after a system failure that had the pilots escaping alive.
The main effect of a plane crash was , that another plane had to be aquired...so more money for the manufacturer.
The plane just sucked. At the maintenance crew basically rebuild the plane after each flight. At the end there were gigantic capacities of non -combat experts on the plane hardware just to change parts after each flight. It was a logistic nightmare, but it kept the planes in the air and the pilots alive.
With a five minute intro PhlyDaily’s genius plan comes into play. He successfully hits the ten minute mark with ease.

Lowery Air Force Base, late 70s at Tech-School for the USAF... They had one of these out front of the dormitory, 'static' mount, (on concrete pads at ground level) in direct-shortest-distance-straight-line between the Enlisted Club and the side entrance, (so you didn't have to pass the front office when you came in drunk) of the dorm. This thing wiped out more people as a DISPLAY than it ever did in service... (Had one inch solid rubber 'bumpers' on the wing leading and aft edges or it would have KILLED people)

F104G was a stopgap used by germay and Italy in the high speed ground strike role until the tornado was operational due to budget constraints both countries couldn't afford to buy the jaguar used by the UK and france for the high speed ground strike role.

I understood that on ground attack runks, at high angle of attack on pull ups, the "wings" disturbed the airflow to the elevator. You can imagine how losing elevator authority at that point affects your lifespan expectation.

F104s were used Primarily for ground striking by the RCAF. Who got really, really good at low level ground runs with it.
