Its honestly been really interesting to see how the meta at top tier has shifted so quickly. It was F4E/Bis for the longest time, then F5E, then Viggen/JA37C/EJ Kai, and now its MLD/Viggen/JA37/Kai. I wonder how fast it will change in the upcoming updates though 🤔

The F-4E was meta for a really long time, huh? It was meta from when it was added to when the MiG-21bis was introduced, then it became meta again from the FM changes (became faster than MiG-21bis on the deck) to the update adding the Skyflash/AIM-7E-2, and even now it's still a good aircraft overall. It's impressive how long it's been good for.
@@_ace_defective_ not even mentioning the FGR's excellent acceleration, it's very much a capable plane if enemies are kept at a reasonable distance!
next, german will get su 22, whereas the russian will get mig 29 and america will get f 14

This really showcases just how air rb isnt really working for top tier anymore. We need an additional game mode or major changes to air rb. 4 minutes of total match time is ridiculously laughable. This game mode isn't meant for these planes and these mechanics. Maybe Air RB EC or something.

The first 5 minutes of this video is like the entire year's worth of DEFYN getting shafted. It really is a shame that all the old top tier planes are now so powercrept even you cant get that much good footage, and this is just after i unlock the mirage 3c with no flares at al.....

look at it like the MK-108s in the Me 262s, even when they hit like a truck they are certainly the worst guns between jets because the ballistics just sucks too much
Not gonna lie this video while it's a good insight on issues in WT top tier, it's a relief to see that even a top player like you goes through games where your team disintegrates and the only option is to run. It is reassuring.

Fair enough... but that's top tier for pretty much everyone but Russia nowadays. Leo 2A6 and 2A5 are still capable machines that fit the current meta, and they have an excellent top tier SPAA in the form of the FlaRakRad bus thingy.

Apparently the germans only had the SPS-141-100 pod on their MiG-21bis. The russians used the ASO-2 dispenser in Afghanistan which is why the russian bis gets the ASO-2 dispenser

Looks like that afterburner trick works for other jets as well, just tested it with the J-7E and F-5E
It's not so much a first stage afterburner as it is an afterburner increment, if that makes any sense. Like instead of being just 0% or 100% afterburner, if you use the scroll wheel you can go to different levels of afterburner.
It even works on aircraft that shouldn't have anything but an afterburner toggle (F-104A for example).

Problem is the not plane like you said, its the soviet mains.
When Mig21Smt first introduced alongside with Mf most of them frustrated because of Germany was getting a good top tier plane not to mention they actually lost their mind when Mig21bis introduced cause they were afraid that Germany will also get it in the same patch.
So im pretty sure if Gaijin announces Mig29 for both country at the same time they will loose their mind once again.
Germany will probably have to wait a year for the MiG-23ML and will get the MiG-29A one year afzer the russians get the MiG-29S

@@spaa2927 I mean I get that Germany is getting things late and that's not great, but at the same time I also understand why. If Germany were to just receive the top of Russia, or US basically, then what's the point of grinding those nations, just grind Germany then, saves you time.
It will be like this for a while until Gaijin can finally get a damn contract going with Panavia for the Tornado so Germany can finally break free from being annoying to US/Russia. But ye, Germany could at least get one up to date plane, be it a US plane or Russian one, seeing how for instance Japan just got a better F-4E too now.
It's just not a good time for Germany, but after a year or so, it will all be forgotten and those who are new to Germany will not feel the same pain, that's how it is.

So those other nations can actually keep their better performing vehicles for themselves while germany can at least get something to compete until F4F-İCE and Eurofighter Typhoon comes.
Also Tornado is used for ground missions in lutwaffe so it will be pretty Much useless at air rb as well.
@@spaa2927 Ye well I get that it's downgraded but not if it were added at the same time as the US/Russian variants, which was the point wasn't it, correct me if I'm wrong. That Germany got things much later.
For instance, if the F-4F was added with the F-4E, they both would've been identical, the F-4E didn't always have radar missiles. The AIM-7Es weren't all too amazing either when they got added.
However right now I don't really care too much anymore, I think Germany should've just gotten the F-4F ICE maybe last update, which I did hint in my comment. With it being treated as the F-4EJ Kaj, with downgraded missiles. Germany would then be pretty future-proofed with that. Idk why Gaijin didn't do it, but did on the other hand for Japan.
I mean it's just an F-4F with better radar then, nothing too gamebreaking. Same stuff as the F-4EJ kai. Although I don't know if the ICE was capable of using sparrows, because that would be a shame if it couldn't, for balance reasons.

Strange request again but DEFYN, can you do an energy guide using the f8f-1. I think this one works well because it has poor guns. It forces you to fly better than your opponent. It has average turn and good speed. Sits at a high enough BR to get educated pilots but low enough to not get jets.

I was wondering, is it possible for you to revisit some of the older planes in the game that people rarely play? For example, F7F-1. I seldom see people play it or perform well in it, couldnt find good commentary video as well. The last showcase video you had was 3 years ago, is it possible for you to do a commentary video on it? While I love your no bullshit commentary and honest opinion, I do feel it's a little jaded. Top Tier gameplay is literally missile trucking. Very rarely do the manoeuvre kills of old take place anymore. the BIS SAU is the same as the rest of the top tiers.

I have seen this in the American F4E as well, although due to having proper radar missiles and all it is somewhat bearable but it has become way worse for everyone that is not on the same team as Russia, quite sad
I'm glad though, the F-4E dominated the meta for way too long, it became quite boring

@@grass123 Yeah, as far as I know it's the longest spanning dominance out of all jets in the game, even the T-2 lasted for like 8 months iirc.
I find that I don't need the chaff too much, as notching is better for breaking PD locks, and chances are I'm not getting caught slow at altitude. Positioning is everything, too.
If only gaijin was competent enough to let GDR jets play with Russia , already got many many matches with the Bis-Sau and a Winrate bout 15% so my conclusion is that the MIG-23 is fucking OP

Well you kinda can already regulate the afterburner, it just won't show you at what percentage you are. Afterburner ranges from 101-110%, you just can't see it. Pretty bad design on Gaijins part here, would prefer a red throttle number, like on some planes rather than "WEP".
If you do want to see it, you will need an external tool called WTRTI, which allows you to see (if you enable it) your true throttle percentage, and with that you can also see your thrust differences (it can be quite a lot).
@@Xiphactinus Oh yeah, and using the same tool, WTRTI, you can also enalbe a WEP timer, showing you how long you have left on WEP.

And there are probably more. But, this would not only alleviate some of the spam you'll see from planes that are really stupid to fly against, it also sort of circumvents the BR a little bit and brings back the sort of matches we want to see.

you get a loadout that was good 1 year ago now having no radar AAM and only 4 x aim9j is a joke while most stuff you face has atleast 6 IR AAM
Doesnt have all aspect or radar missiles, it doesn't have a CCRP so it's ass at ground pounding, and it's now slower than the mig 23MLD
This is why we need air rb EC, we would be able to do more all they have to do is make bigger maps and add drop tanks
It is insane that Gaijin values the Bis, the Su-17, 23M, 27M and the MLD the same. For NATO it is insane that the F-4F and the F-4EJ Kai are at the same BR... the Su-17 meanwhile is the only plane without flares at 11.0... FAIR
Warthunder matchmaking is a literal nightmare, doesn't matter what you do you get looked down and shot down in an unspaded jet without flares, without missiles, without radar, nothing. But that's just my everyday experience trying to grind a jet that just starts to have a starter missile 🙂

Facing most of the time 12.0 Jets in this Plane is just pure Hell atm. Constantly in a pretty big disatvantage. Getting sniped from over 50km away is just so funny in a 11.0 Plane. I wish Gajin would work on the balancing for the late tech tree so you dont constantly face 12.0 Jets which are far better in everything.

Guys, is airfield aaa nerfed/moved out of the game? I had a one month break from game and when i came back i played 9 games all without enemy airfield aaa. so i dont know if i am immune somehow or its a bug XD
Im flying F8u2 and I feel the pain. I might try F4E but I have more success and fun in F8. With spoting system now and weird rwr I cant get high in F4 and so the sparrows are not working.
Interesting how the Fishbed has really stepped into the role it was forced to occupy in real life, in game now... an interceptor. "Snakes in the grass" they called them in Vietnam, because their only viable tactic was to rush in, ambush the unaware bombers or fighter-bombers, and get the hell out of dodge because they were just too unwieldy to be used in combat with other fighters. Now, it just has the standard War Thunder interceptor problem - reminds me of the Lightning when it was first added
I expect before long we'll see the MiG-21bis either A: receive R-60M's (preferable), or B: go down in br... because you know that's Gaijin's solution for everything these days - compress harder

finally as a pure russia main i am winning 50+% of my games. Didnt expect it to be 9 out of 10 games won tho. With mld i can see why russians have higher winrate, its a great plane and i love it even tho its still not spaded for me. I cant understand why mig23m spam had super high winrate too. Feel like viggens/ej kai are better than 23m. And in terms of 10:35 r60s can hit 0,5km quite efficiently, at least from my experience

Hi, late reply and maybe not from the person youre expecting... But I'd say the Mig21bisSAU can dogfight a Mig23M if youre skilled but there has to be quite skill gap when fighting an MLD. In terms of META, this thing sucks. It isnt in any of the major META teams it just cant 1vX Mig23s or Viggens. It itself is a good plane, but with the teams and planes it faces, it is at a severe disadvantage. Most of my higher end jets got a win% of 51-55 (I'm average) but this thing has 40% and i can barely get a KD of 1:1. This is just my opinion tho and others might have different experiences. TLDR: you can def do good in this thing. but it is outside of your control when you do it.

@@boomcat1337 small update. this thing is competetive now. the r60mk it got are really good and the BR increase hardly matters. take 6 r60mk, go for headons and youre golden. ive made like over 300k in 2-3 hours with it just now.

Honestly how would anyone else feel about much bigger maps? Like 200x200km maps which require a bit of strategy from the team side? What about Squadron Tournaments, where tactics would matter on these larger maps?
Need more fuel, and as such the weights will need to be adjusted otherwise every plane will become barely flyable.

Well, considering the fact that the mig 27 was made in 1978 and the f14's first flight was in 1974 and it entered combat in 1978 I think they should put the f14 into the game to make everything even between russian and american top teir jets (even though this has nothing to do with this)

I unlocked it in 2 sim games with the MF, I like it but it’s not good anymore for 11.0, the Bis is better in Sim and duels, now I play the viggen bc I got skilled in it in rb and sb
These are the reasons why I switched from exclusively playing air RB to only playing ground forces RB and switch my air game to exclusively SB EC. Figure I don’t have to put up with this bullshit compression and constant adding on more and more extremely powerful aircraft without doing anything mechanics while to actually fix any of the underlying issues.

How turn on fuel economy on afterburner again?
Drop throttle to 100%, then go to 102% WEP. It's a bit finicky on keys but a super quick tap will usually net you the same result as using the scroll wheel.

Simulator is a way more enjoyable experience than RB, at this point.
It’s b.s that the Russia bis costs 19k, while this one costs 7. That’s what really pisses me off. Considering that has R-60Ms.
