If you're lucky, this approach will work. A lot of the times the studs will not clear the rear of the hub, so you'd have to find a specific solution to your problem. Some like to grind an edge on the stud's widest portion (wouldn't recommend). The "proper" way would be to remove the hub and press the studs out.
You can also get away without the stud removal tool by using a lot of thick washers and lug nut, but the tool is cheap enough to justify it's price.
