Appreciate it. The only comment i have is torque spec those bolts. Good practice to show people as many people are here probably because some hack impacted the bolts down too tightly.
Appreciate this I've started on my 08 Pontiac G6 this morning at 7 am appreciate the vid, was wondering how to get lug Studs in without damaging stuff thanks alot, it Oct 9 2023. Greetings from north Carolina
Great video, sir! This is gonna be so helpful! I am currently fixing my first car (Pontiac G3 2010) My dad is helping me but accidentally broke one of these nut studs on the rare wheel hub as we were changing the brake drums. This is gonna be so helpful
Why would you use any loctite on the rotor screws? Most people just leave them off anyway. They only hold the rotor on for easier assembly. I've never had one back off on its own.
Thanks for this information, it honestly helps me out a lot. I just couldn't find a lot of information about my son's car and how we were going to get the stud in. We did all we knew then said F it. Then I ran across this video and one more we got the studs in now to get it to sit tight or flush. Let's just say, we are working on it. 😂
Most folks do toss those screws, and I know this is only a Honda.. but as a Porsche restorer where points count in judging my mind has been programmed to keep those little bastards LOL thanks for watching!
That is why you use antisieze or leave screws off but thank you on the tip on cutting part of back cover off will use this in future have customers sign damage waiver.
I watched the video thinking "wow, I can do this", then found out the two godam bolts holding the caliper in place are seized so hard that none of my tools can break them loose. I guess these parts were still the originals so the rust must have been insane. I didn't want to strip the hex screw heads by trying anything more dodgy so I stopped. Time to let the pros do it this time. I learned my limit.
Yeah, I do it similar to this, but instead of using thread locker, I use anti seize on the rotor screws and locknuts. Also, I find it a little bit easier to compress the piston on the caliper rather than fighting it off of the rotor Pretty simple to do with a prybar while the rotor is still bolted on. I don’t have a problem with running the Lugnuts back on with an impact, but a lot of problems with broken lug studs come from over Torquing the lug studs stretching the metal and then it shears them off. Not sure if that’s what happened here or not but if you’re gonna run them back home with an impact, I would suggest a torque limiting extension somewhere between 80 and 100 foot pounds usually would be about right if you’re using electric impact it’s going to over torque it some so I would suggest the 80 pound variety. Or you can throw them on with a torque wrench. Torque specs for your specific vehicle are pretty easy to find nowadays with the inter-webs. Additionally, the spacer I use might seem weird at all, but I use the actual rotor since it’s laying there and I don’t have to go find anything. Also, while I’m there, I would’ve probably went ahead and changed the brake pads. You already had 90% of it done and I’m weird even with headlights if I change one I change them both so I probably just would’ve went ahead and swapped out the rest of the studs, but that’s what makes people great. We’re all different. And if I didn’t have the first clue of what I was doing, I’d let someone else do it.
dont use locktight those are only used at the factory to hold rotors on during assembly in the factory.and non removeable locktight next guy is gonna be pissed when hes got to do a brake job..use some anti seaze instead or go in dry.
My 03 honda odyssey front wheel studs needs to be replace , do you think I can use your method or ways to teplace them with out removing the hub assembly? Thanks
OMG!! Speaking of NUTS and amateur hour hackery...This Guy!!☝️ Don't do anything this guy showed😳 Hammering in studs from the back, using an impact and pulling them in dry, no lube or grease on the threads or splines etc is asking for trouble. Further more, Red loctite on anything is nuts, and using it on rotor retaining screws which are only really used for ease of assembly in the factory is just dumb, the caliper ans wheel will hold the screws and the rotor in place once they're on, and the screws will never just fall out, just nip em up, or leave them out altogether, out the wheel on and you're done🤣 I'm not even going to mention how DUMB it is to use loctite of any kind, especially red on the lug studs...no wonder you keep seeing broken studs...DUMB, DUMB, DUMB!!🤦♂️
A few ways, you'll break a lug-nut off with the stud inside it, lug-nuts won't stay tight on the wheel after a few hours, or you can't unscrew or screw on a lug-nut as the stud is damaged.
The most clear & painless video to replace the Honda jackass design wheel studs ??!!! Are you a mechanic, shop will only do the 'right way' to remove the hub & replace bearings quote $500, instead of a $2 stud ???!!!
Awesome video - Thank you so much! I will have to fix for 2013 Acura RDX. Can I use a ryobi multi rotary tool to cut the shield? Also, any tips to not ruin the threads while hammering in the stud?
Yes the Ryobi will make the cut in the dust shield so you can get that stud in. Make sure the stud is straight and you should be good... when you thread on the nut to tightening the stud to the hub it will clean up any lightly damaged threads.
with the impact, how much ftlbs rating does it have to be to be able to pull it in? I'm asking because I bought an impact from walmart and it cant even take off my lugnuts. I also don't think I need those 1400ft lbs ones. What rating would you recommened for automotive work? Lugnuts and wheel studs?
The one you have now should be good enough to pull the stud thru the hub... I used the Bauer Impact from Harbor Freight for the last 4 years with no real issues. Hope this helps.

Yes put the car in N and then you can move the hub to the next lug.
@ArrowheadGarage if it's up on a jack it's not going to move too much? 😬
I heard doing it that way with a hammer damages the wheel bearings is that true ?
No thread damage if you do it correctly.
I hope you’re the one to work on those discs next. Who uses red thread lock on on those disk screws or red on wheel nuts? I thought I was a cowboy
