The guy who mows the grave yard threw those markers down the in the creek. To make it easier to mow. The same thing happened to our town cemetery. He was FIRED.
Another great and safe explore. The metal funeral home marker @ 16:50 was for an infant, born Nov 23rd and died Nov 25th 1898. The verse at the bottom says "For of such is the kingdom of heaven" Matthew 19:14.
You are SO awesome to go out and explore to entertain those of us who are quarantined at home. The "frame" you found that you thought might be an animal feeder is the base for a "saddle wreath." It would have had a Styrofoam base on it with a floral arrangement that clipped onto an upright tombstone. They are very pretty, but sometimes the top part with the Styrofoam and flowers gets blown off.
The green metal thing is part of a grave decoration. It hangs on the grave stone. Usually it holds green florists foam and artificial flowers are stuck in the foam
As always, I love your videos. You are being pretty brave and risking yourself to go out there just to put out videos for your viewers at this time of pandemic. So I want to thank you. I hope you will be safe and careful out there.
All cemeteries have a "dump" hillside. I worked a a labourer/gravedigger at a cemetery 40 odd years ago and we had a hillside on the boundary that we used for branches, broken headstones and where we dumped "extra" dirt from graves we had dug. You know how when you dig a hole you can never get all the dirt back in? Well when you do a burial you have a lot more spare dirt left over no matter how hard it is rammed down. We dumped all that dirt down the bank on the boundary. The sexton reckoned there was about 15 foot of dirt stretching back that wasn't there when he started work 20 years before. Love your videos. Keep up the great work.
I've seen places where they have used polished granite grave stones for erosion protection. The grave stones all had some flaw that made them unusable.
Enjoyable video but full of sadness. I hate to see those headstones and base blocks chucked down the banking... showing no respect. The grass kept cut but headstones in such deplorable condition. Thanks for sharing Matt 🌹💟🌹.
I agree with Ms Christine and Ms Dawn. Very old graves just forgotten so sad.The discarded items should be cleaned up and buried somewhere atleast keep the place tidy for future generations.
Wow that was just fantastic. A bit of a disgrace to allow the older part of graveyard fall into disrepair. Thanks for taking me along. Please stay safe Matt
Thank you 539 for another very interesting video. The neglected state of this cemetery makes me sad. It makes me appreciate the hard work that cemetery maintenance workers put in to keep their grounds looking so nice. They generally are not paid very well and have a lot of responsibility. Thank you all
Another Banger Great location and commentary as usual and great camera work I hope you’re safe during this virus time and that your loved ones are as well. God be with you on your explores Your mate Dave Gold Coast Australia
If you ever venture through southern Ohio we have some interesting historical cemeteries in my hometown of Goshen, one of which is practically in my backyard.
great video the section of concrete is manhole section planted on top of each other and finished wirh a metal man hole lid mainly for drainage from bulgaria
🐵: "what up? Matt: "I'm practicing some social distancing" 🐵: "Where are ya practicing that at?" Matt: "Ohh an abandoned cemetery with hidden graves, I guess." 🐵: "ohh ummm kay".
The fenced off memorial is a Cenotaph. We have lots of them in New Zealand to the soldiers who fell in World War One. Soldiers from other wars, Second World War, Korean War, Vietnam War and the Malaya "Emergency" are also added. We commemorate the fallen on April 25th, ANZAC day, the Australians and New Zealanders who were used as cannon fodder by the British Army. They sent our soldiers into danger to protect their troops, especially at Gallipoli Cove where the British made a monumental blunder and landed the ANZAC troops on the wrong beach to be picked off by the Turkish soldiers. "An absolute fucking abortion" as one of our soldiers described it. (ANZAC stands for Australia, New Zealand Army Corp).
If Hildebrand The Hildebrand Cemetery is a cemetery hidden in the woods on Salamonie Reservoir property that not many people know exists. To find this cemetery, turn onto Monument City road from Highway 9 just north of Mount Etna. Drive around the curve and look for two metal posts on the left side of the road. There is a path which you can drive down directly before the metal posts. In 2010, the cemetery was cleaned up by Eagle Scouts and a new sign was erected. Since then, the cemetery is much easier to find and is easily accessible.
Interesting cemetery. It is such a shame that some group cant go in to clean up and right the stones. I believe those blocks you found come from what we would have called an ice house. They were pretty small and often made of granite or stone blocks (almost like a mausoleum ) to store bodies for later burial. Keep Safe❤Keep Well❤
@@giggles8458 I have been following 539 and his photography for years. His taking photos and video taping is not disrespectful the fact that the area residents ,church groups etc have not done more to maintain the cemeteries and graveyards is disrespectful to previous generations and the history of the area .
Marker says Salamonie Reservoir so that’s a give away hint I guess. If Mount Etna... Mt. Etna Cemetery was first started in 1873 on land purchased from D. A. Aldrich in Section 31 along the south bank of the river in Lancaster Township. To protect the burials from the future waters of the Salamonie Reservoir (then under construction), the Corps of Engineers had the graveyard moved from along the river to Section 6 in Jefferson Township. The move was started in the fall and early winter of 1965. This location is about 1 mile east of State Road 9 on US 124 (600 S).
Being a former camper, those trailers might be year round campers, or they've been winterized and in storage. My parents did that until they retired and became snowbirds.
Luv to watch your unique artistic video's. Since I'm unable to send 539 money, i always watch the ad's before/ during/ after your video's, so hopefully You Tube supports💰💲💲💲
I agree that maybe since some were never used, they just threw them down a hill but why? Another mystery. 🤔 Maybe a 🌪️ or floods since there is other damage scattered around. Alot of questions about some things there. Could it have been any quieter than that?...I don't think so. Anyway a good find and a fun time searching for clues, etc. GTSY Later Matt. ✌️
Matt please don’t take this in a weird way, I mean it as a compliment. Have you ever considered the funeral industry as a line of work? You have so much respect for the people and the lives they led before they died. I just think you would be really good at it.
what is the name of those green leafy plants?? Could a tornado be part of the destruction of these graveyards? Just wondering and thanks for the tour....

Thanks, Vicki! Been staying away from people even during the filming!
That foundation could be from an old "dead house." Where they kept people until the ground was thawed out.
It was called a charnel house - for storing bodies when the ground was frozen.

I love it when someone can identify odd and old items

A lot of the damage looks deliberate, which is so sad. 😢

Really beautiful historic cemetery. Too bad it isn”t being cared for.
Excellent video....strange silence with the wind.......only if the dead could talk!
I am glad that they don't.
Wow that was just fantastic. A bit of a disgrace to allow the older part of graveyard fall into disrepair. Thanks for taking me along. Please stay safe Matt
It is no disgrace, that is why we watche these vidoes, because of the fantastic condition of abandonement, which makes them beautiful.

So happy all the trailer folks stayed in and didn't follow you around. Nice find.
It's sad to see those grave markers just lying in the ravine...hope there aren't graves out there unmarked n uncared for
The metal piece you found is a holder for artificial flowers and fits on top of the grave stone.
That is a Mason's Root Beer can. The company was sold in 1970 and the name was changed. That can has been there a long time!
you located a root beer can exactly like that one earlier. photo of it is on your 539 facebook page
Yep, it's the same one. I took a photo too!
Matt, I really love your adventures in these woods and forests!
I wish I could go with you🙋🤓

Thanks for watching, Barbara!
This place is very spooky looking. It is a old cemertary. Nice video Matt, thanks
interesting cemetery tour, just a shame its forgotten except for your respects in sharing this video from across the pond in UK
totally loving the hq def camera..feels like Im right there rooting around as well. keep up the great work soldier!

Awesome place you found love it ❤️😊✌🏻seems like so much history being lost here , sad 😞

My wife and I have been going for drives and visiting old graveyard where we live in Southern Ontario.
So sad, what a shame to be forgotten - especially all the ones in the ravine. From the looks of that metal marker - a 2day old infant?
Wow love your videos and I love thee old old graveyard s thanks so much and showing us
Thanks for watching!
Corona even kept the stalkers away from you this trip.
Definitely lots of old, old stones. Those campers may just be parked there for storage??

Love your stuff by why are you out and about while most of us are sitting in our homes?
Mark, he won't have to worry about social distancing in these locations.
Those campers are parked there until families can come out to use them on weekends and good weather. They are probably full during summer

If it's the one I am thinking of, I have an episode on it from about a year ago maybe more. Sounds like the place to me.
539 Productions well I’m responding directly to your video so hopefully you know where you were? Lol.
Boa noite 539, ótimo vídeo.
The second quote you showed was from Oliver Morton who was the governor of Indiana during the civil war.

Call out Name , dates on stones would make it more interesting.
Ótimo vídeo. Cemitério antigo com datas de 1890
Nice video
That oval shaped concrete hole was once an outhouse.
i bet it haunted too be great get some reading with the emf meter
I'm surprised graves haven't been dug up, seeing all the deliberate vandalism. It's a forgotten location, primo for desecration activities.
Could you make a video on your top muasoliums youve seen? most luxurious? most impressive? most classic? Ect...
Been thinking about that actually! Might be one coming soon!
Nice long.video tks

Could be those campers are parked permanently -- some places rent spaces on a yearly basis and people leave their campers there.
Yep, you could be right! I noticed afterward there were not many cars there parked in front of them.
"So sad!"☹️
Mason's Rootbeer was the can.
what is the name of those green leafy plants?? Could a tornado be part of the destruction of these graveyards? Just wondering and thanks for the tour....
What a mess!
Of you say to much they will come and do damage or remove them.
A marker maker threw away some stones.
lets see some graves the ones over the hill were tossed there by vandles /
you should get ahold of Ancestry.com. They might be interested in the gravestones.
Do you purposely only film on days when its overcast ?
Narly about that tree
Everyone is staying six feet away.
Bet those campers don’t spend much time outside at night with their eerie tombstone neighbors
Suzietexus lots of camp sites were built next to grave yards. The land was cheep.
it would be nice if you would read them>
Where in Indiana is this?
Narly
That was a Masons root beer can.
I'm not going to watch anymore.
