Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.
Unfortunately it totally lost the steam, it has been in theaters since mid July but there is like zero buzz. I can see a few nominations but it's not the frontrunner like many thought few months ago. The Brutalist, Anora, Conclave... I think Sing Sing doesn't have a chance
@@ZlatanHu.Agree, but imho it’s a bit overhyped especially in Letterboxd. It’s a great film, 4 stars to me or maybe 4.5 stars to some, but definitely not a 5.
Excellent review mate. I think we see eye to eye on a lot of this one. Truly a wonderful film with outstanding performances and some challenging topics at the canter. Not all of it worked for me (those last 15 min I understand where you’re coming from- certainly was a choice) but I still walked away from it loving more of it than I disliked. I don’t think it should’ve won the golden lion personally - pedro has had so many better films than this but I guess they wanted to honour the legend whilst they could and Brady Corbett still got director at Venice so that something. Looking forward to discussing this film more with you in a few weeks time. 😁 hope you’re enjoying the fest. Keep up the fab content. Much loves Luke xx
I believe it will because several films in recent years films that won the Golden Lion at Venice Film Festival were nominated for Best Picture, they are Brokeback Mountain, The Shape of Water, Roma, Joker, Nomadland and last year Poor Things.
Brian, there is also Strong Oscar Buzz for Jennifer Lopez in "Unstoppable". J.Lo was photographed at the Toronto Film Festival. The NY Post gave it 4 stars. Have you seen it?
James Earl Jones died today. Could you make his elusive Oscar video when you return from Toronto? He never won, nor was he nominated. About the films - I can't wait to watch them in the cinema and have an opinion. The Brutalist, Conclave and this one are the ones I am more excited about, though everyone seems to be talking about Maria and Nightb*tch.
I thought Tilda was gonna go Lead. I mean isn't it her character's story ? Tilda really deserves more than just 1 nomination and Julianne was robbed last year so she should get one too
@singstreetcar5881 It could be a head vs heart situation. Or more people attracted by the premise and themes of death and friendship. Also Pedro has a lot of respect but has never won. It is hard to say until more people see both.
I agree that art is important. Storytelling is important. Nothing is wrong with discussing movies with someone else. However, it is an escape from reality and can be addictive as anything else. The world around us has gone to 💩.
Tip. If you curse in the first 30 seconds of the video you will get demonetized. So check your script and save the profanity for after 30 seconds at least
Almodovar always has those amazing splashes of color and design in his films. Truly splendid!😊❤❤
Tilda swinton has my whole heart and I don’t want it back 😂
I will see this film because it is Almodovar. Tilda and Julianne are the two cherries on top!
There are so many film award pages on here, but yours is the best.

Is this your idea of self-campaigning?

I was debating about watching this movie.. but I really do like Julianne Moore in general.
Have you ever seen an Almodovar film? If you haven't, you will be in for a treat.
This 2 women are 63 years old that’s amazing! Oscar nomination for tilda Swinton for sure

Hopefully Tilda and Julianne both run in Lead.
Yes category drauf needs to stop
Sony Pictures Classics has made the brave choice to position both Swinton and Moore as leads.
I’m so excited to see this movie. Both actresses are amazing.
I wonder if it will be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars next year.

@@champreviewer5572 The Golden Lion award seems to have more influence over the Oscars than the Palme d'Or.
Thank you Brian, as a Spaniard myself , I have never been a Pedro Almodóvar fan, but I will check this one out . Thank you so much for your review.
RIP James Earl Jones.
Reminds me of the movies Old Accquaintance/Rich and Famous.
Waiting for emilia perez 😭😭😭🙏🏼🙏🏼

He was nominated for Best Actor in 1970 for "The Great White Hope."
Fantastic movie
Waiting for your review of I'm still here by Walter Salles 🙏
I think Fernanda Torres has a shot at a Best Actress Oscar nomination.
I thought Tilda was gonna go Lead. I mean isn't it her character's story ? Tilda really deserves more than just 1 nomination and Julianne was robbed last year so she should get one too
Wonderful
could this movie be nominated for Best International Feature? the production is spain/us so i think it could
It's ineligible. All the dialogue is in English.
They remade 1941's Ich Klage An
Isn't Best Actress stacked EVERY year?
Mate why 8s of 10 ?
The brutalist received more acclaimed than this film, so im surprised they won the golden lion

Just heard that James Earl Jones passed away today.
