This can be taken a lot further, with some optimization.
Always start sorcerer (or in this case fighter), so you get constitution save proficiencies for your concentration. This goes double, nay, triple, when you use haste, where you lose your entire action if you lose concentration! If you use fighter levels in the build, start fighter, so you can get heavy armor and shield proficiency.
Even if you do not use armor (yeah, potent robe is a must, but you gain it at the end of act 2, so 2/3 through the game), it is still nice to have, since certain gloves, helmets and so on require proficiency.
For warlock, I would take Great Old One. The more attacks you make, the more likely you are to crit on one of them, meaning you can reliably inflict the fear effect every round for free in a small AoE, and keep enemies from moving closer (especially in addition to your pushback)
Your dragon ancestor should always be bronze in this build, since that means you can use lightning charges (with the spell sparkler, and later Markoheshkir as a staff). Draconic sorcerers can add their charisma every time you deal damage associated with your element, which, with lightning charges, you will do on every single blast. So another +5 to every blast, just as much as potent robe gives you.
This can in fact be increased even further with the necklace of elemental augmentation, which adds another +5 to every beam, IF you use lightning charges and picked bronze as your ancestry.
So another +10 on every beam right there, if you have 9 beams (haste + quicken), that is 90 damage. If you decide to use action surge. 120 damage. While not costing you anything, really. Markoheshkir is the best staff in the game for you, anyways :)

Holy that sounds super cool. I also noticed the temp hit points somehow make the ones from the fiend to not work properly., so the whole passive almost becomes redundant. Not sure if it's bugged or intended. I'll definitely give a try to your tips/.

    • @DomenG33K
      @DomenG33K Рік тому +21

Some of this definitely sounds low damage, or not fully optimized. Your damage should be around 1d10+15 (21) with 3 base beams, 3 from action surge, 3 from sorc, 3 from haste = 12 beams. 21x12 = 252 base damage average. I say base damage since there could be some other spells, potions, effects, items... that could add a little bit more damage. Some i can think of instantly is the mind flayer buffs, and crits. I would think you could with perfect optimization (which im not sure of yet) do around 300 damage average...

The Potent Robe gives you Temporary Hit Points, the ones you get from "The Fiend" is wasted. Take "The Old One" instead to get a chance to frighten everything when you crit. Also, I recommend using Saravoks Helm, Blade of First Blood and The Dead Shot along with the Spellsniper Feat and a Viscous Elixir (Meaning you crit on 15 and up). This'll let you turn the machine gunning into a CC build on top of nutters damage.

    • @ocadioan
      @ocadioan Рік тому +10

I wouldn't use Saravok's Helm. The crit only increases dice damage, not the fixed damage, and the extra +2 damage(and +1 to hit) from the Birthright hat gives 2*12 extra damage when action surging, on top of making it more likely that you hit. Going from 16 to 15 crit does nothing for your to hit chance, and "only" increases your average crit damage per hexed target from 2.25 at 16 crit to 2.7 at 15 crit (30% chance of crit at 15 with an average of 5.5 and 3.5 damage increases from the dies).

Great video! My current build is basically the same. But I feel like there are a few tweaks you could do to make this even better. If you are going to be wearing the Amulet of Greater Health there is no point in taking the war-caster feat. You can't get advantage on constitution saving throws twice, and I don't think the opportunity spell feature alone is worth a whole feat/ASI when you only get 2 here. Maybe if we had booming blade or green flame blade, but you shouldn't be in melee range super often with this character if you can help it. You can also take out points from constitution and put it into another ability. This also frees you up to take another ASI increase, Alert, lucky, or mobile feats.
For anyone else looking to make this build some other good items to look for are:
Gloves of Spell Might - Gives you +1d8 spell damage per attack for a -5 attack penalty. Basically the sharpshooter feat for spells. Just another way to add about 4-5 extra damage per Eldritch blast
The Spellsparkler - Rare Quaterstaff that gives you 2 lightning charges when you hit with a spell/cantrip. Adds lightning damage to each of your Eldridtch blasts after the first one.
The Dead Shot - Bow that increases crit range by 1 even for Eldritch blast so you can crit on a 19.

Colby over at D4 is very good at designing builds, isn't he?
I believe he called it the "The Ultimate Blaster". But in a comment under his video i dubbed it the "Eldritch Machine Gun" (I probably wasn't the only one).
For those wondering the key bits are:
    8 / 14 / 16(1) / 10 / 12 / 17(2)
1 - Fighter 1 (martial ability: all armor, defense +1, con saves)
2 - Warlock 1 (fiend or fey, Colby liked Fey, but I actually prefer Fiend for temp hp & hellish rebuke gets you a solid very reaction option, _get_ eldritch blast invocation and the hex spell)
3 - Warlock 2 (eldritch invocations: agonizing & knockback for eldritch blast)
4 - Fighter 2 (action surge, you could also do 2 levels of fighter, then 2 of warlock, pretty similar result. but start with fighter, and get 2 of each in your first 4 levels)
    X - Hag's hair (Charisma bonus +1)
5 - Sorcerer 1 (draconic, a couple good options but bronze does get you use for lightning charges, being 5th level you now get 2 eldritch blasts)
    6 - Sorcerer 2 (metamagic: twin & extended)
7-12 - Sorcerer 3-8 (metamagic: quickened, first ASI: +2 to charisma for 20, many options for your second ASI/feat at lvl 12, which is sorc 8)
Spells to taste, lean into aoe and utility though, eldritch blast is your 1-2 target cannon.
Gear, anything which can add damage to every cantrip attack will be absolutely phenomenal, even +1 or 2 dmg. It'll multiply a lot per turn.
You'll start to feel the power of the dark side at lvl 5 when you your eldritch blasts become 2 beams. You'll be a full Sith lord at level 7 when you get quickened as well, to use EB attacks on bonus actions. Before 5th level, it's nothing to write home about.

Just want to point our your stat distribution is impossible. You'll have to have two stats at 8 for that build or one at 8 and two at 9 which does nothing. I'm guessing you forgot later points take 2 points to level and not just 1. At best you can do 8 / 14 / 16(1) / 8 (or 10) / 10 (or 8) / 17(2)

@@Illustria Interesting. I was using an online point buy calculator (unofficial) for bg3, but I double checked with a different online point buy calculator (for tabletop) and you seem to be right on that one. Later tonight I'll try in-game in BG3, to confirm, but I think you're right. Assuming you're right, i'd go 8/14/16/8/10/17.
17 cha gets to 20 cha quickly with hag hair, 14 dex is nice with medium armor, 16 con is as good as it gets for starting con saves as a second-priority stat, and with 2 points left, wisdom is the obvious spot for saves. Functionally, it's very similar, just a difference of 1 bonus each on Int and Wis saves, and no other effect on the build.
But I'll double check in-game (I suspect the bg3 point buy calculator I was using is bugged, i've noticed a few bugs elsewhere in the builder as well).

Yes, always take sorcerer for constitution proficency in saving throws. Also, your warlock Sub class you pick "The Old One", Fear on Crit. This is extremly strong. But only with the right items. You want to equip "Knife of the Undermountain King" in your main hand. Now this short sword reduce your critical strike range AND reroll 1 and 2s, on all attacks. It works with your bow attack, handcross bow builds and with your cantrip or spell attacks. You now score a critical strike on 19-20. Now, add in Covert cowl or Dark Justicar helmet and you will most of the time have a critical strike rating of 18-20. Now to further this, we add a Ring Called "Risky RIng", which you purchase early act 2. This ring provides ALL your attack rolls, Melee, Ranged and spell attack rolls to give you advantage (Overpowered on Thief/Ranger/Warlock Handcross bow build as you have sneak attack always), The second ring in my humble opinoin can be most but RIng of Arcane Synergy is potent as you gain 2 arcane surges every time you deal damage with a cantrip. Since Eldritch blast hits multiple times, this quickly adds up and is important to ensure our To Hit is strong. For Gloves I recommend Gloves of Dexterity from Act 1. 18 dex and a +1 to ALL attack rolls. (This also means you can stat dump your dexterity to 8 when respeccing since these gloves gives you 18). As a feat you need Warcaster since "Risky RIng" gives you disadvantage on all saving throws. And to main tain your concentration saves you have warcaster to nullify this effect, plus due to gloves of dexterity you have 16 constitution. Obviously later in the game you have other stats but this is for act 2 once you aqquire this robe and items you have up until now.
As for Eldritch invocations. Do not neglect Devils Sight as this let you see through darkness. Basically you can throw a darkness spell under your feet and sit inside it and attack freely. not to mention this adds also superior dark vision to you, meaning you have dark vision up to 24m. So Devils Sight plus Agonizing blast is stronger.

7:08 i would still go with Misty Step. Having 2 sources for it is much better :) Most spells that you can learn at that level require concentration anyways, so you rarely, if ever, use them.
12:02 I'd rather go with Quickspell Gloves or at least consider them as great contender. They also only work once per short rest, but unlike Gemini Gloves, they provide an additional full cast of eldritch blast as bonus action in your 2nd turn (assuming you use Haste as Bonus Action in your 1st turn). Gemini Gloves also only work once per short rest afaik and they only give you 1 additional beam, not an entire cast with 3 beams.
Edit: You can also cast Haste as an Action and use Quickspell Gloves in your 1st turn to get the 2nd eldritch blast without using any Sorcery Points. This way you can keep up your SP much longer and eventually even use it to refill some Spell Slots if needed.
And i think the best option for your cloak (that i found so far at least) is Cloak of the Weave, which gives a +1 bonus to Spell Save DC and Spell Attack Rolls. It can be bought from Helsik at the Devil's Fee :)

11:00 IIRC, the Potent Robe is a quest-reward from that female Tiefling bard you first encounter at the grove (can't recall her name ATM). You need to speak with her at Last Light, then rescue the Tieflings from Moonrise Tower prison, then speak with her again - she's sitting on a bar-stool in the main room, very near to where Jaheira stands. Not sure if you get it no matter what, but you *might* have to rescue the Tieflings without a single one of them getting killed during the escape. Not 100% sure on that. EDIT: Her friend Lakrissa needs to survive the rescue - otherwise you won't get the Potent Robe. On my second play-through, I saved everyone and got a ton of items from her for it, including the Potent Robe.
The way I rescued them was to whittle down the enemy presence in the prison before starting the escape. Do this "Hitman"-style (look for enemies who aren't in view of other enemies and kill them first). Probably best to start with the Scrying Eyes found in the area. Take everyone down one by one and make sure to kill the Warden once there's no more enemies in her vicinity to support her. She's got one of the best amulets in the game and lots of other loot in her office and "attic". Once all guards are dead, you might as well go to the warden's office and simply open all the cells to start the escape (small levers on the wall behind her desk). The prisoners will run out and exit the prison towards the docks. Probably best to also clear the docks of all enemies before you release the prisoners. These friendlies don't have a lot of hitpoints and will go down very quickly if you let the enemies target/attack them.

2 Warlock/4 thief Rogue/6 Sorc lets you use that extra bonus action for a second quickened EB, while also giving you access to cunning disengage if needed and an extra feat to work with to boot, spell sniper is a solid candidate for this extra feat with so many attack rolls. Also the expertise is nothing to sneeze at. Since you’ll have 16 dex anyway, this can open a party slot when you can be both the face and the lock picker/pickpocket. Gloves from Circus lady are also a good option, basically gives GWF/Sharpshooter to spell attacks for +3d8 vs +1d10+5 (6 if Mirror), I’ll take the extra damage that can get added to critical hits. The thing is most fights dont even last 2 turns if you're playing a minmaxed party comp / the second turn is just cleaning up mobs that pose no threat at all, so you just auto attack them or cantrip them to death.
The first turn is really crucial. Action surge is incredibly powerful, not to mention it only costs 2 levels instead of thief 3.
I would see a bigger argument to be made in dropping fighter alltogether and going warlock 3 sorc 9 to get access to level 5 spells and convert your warlock spell slots to level 2. That actually sounds incredibly good too, but again, an extra action + heavy armor proficiency for the early game both sound amazing as well. Hard to judge which is best - if you're leaning 100% into eldritch blast then the fighter version is definitely better at that, the warlock 3 sorc 9 version is more flexible I suppose.

Honestly i'd personally do 1st sorc > 2nd-4th lock > 5th-10th sorc > 11th-12th fighter. Or if you want the action surge earlier replace any 2 levels of sorc 5th-10th with 2 levels fighter. **Starting fighter is overrated for ranged caster builds so I would never do that.** Prof in STR/CON is not very good if you plan on dumping STR. Sorc has the optimal starting saving throws (cha/con) so it is usually the best starting class for ranged CHA multi-class builds no matter what. Action surge is fun, but higher level spells are better most of the time, so saving fighter for last is what I'd do. But it is fun to use action surge, so I can understand how that can trump having more spell slots and higher level spells sometimes for players. Stat spread using pt buy would be best spent towards maxing out CHA/CON and putting remainder in DEX. **Dump the rest.** Why Dex? You need to be going earlier in initiative if you're planning to control the battle field with forced movement. It will offer you more AC. As a ranged caster, your only fear should be dex saving throws, and staying clear of any physical interaction. Create a space with repelling blast and stay out of any thing else's range, use misty step and the shield spell if you have to. Your fear should be dex saves though because they cover the most area, have the most range, and are the most common saving throw. So dex is important.
The best subclasses for this build aren't available yet, but in table top it would be divine soul, clockwork soul or shadow magic for sorc. Draconic bloodline is a decent choice at the moment though. Hexblade warlock would be the best lock for this build by far, hopefully they add that one day.

I'd drop the shield and put The Spellsparkler in your off hand. You would have to use a feat for dual wielder but if you use that and take lightning draconic bloodline for sorc, you add your modifier to every extra bit of damage from the lightning charges you get, which will be every time you use eldritch blast. I'm not sure if you get the prof bonus from Kereskas favor added to all lighting damage but you can equip the elemental augmentation necklace and add you charisma mod to the damage of your lightning charges also. Also I'd use the spellmight gloves. It basically gives you the same bonus as great weapon master except for spells and its 1d8 instead of a flat +10. -5 to attack rolls might seem like a lot but late game you can easily offset it. Plus I'm pretty sure the extra damage from the gloves also gets your charisma modifier added to it because of potent robes. Rings aren't too important. If you want to squeeze every drop of damage you can out of your attacks then you can use the callous glow and coruscation rings to add some radiant damage and apply radiating orb. Just cast the light cantrip on your weapon so you are always making use of them.

You could have a better character for leveling. Start sorcerer for the con save proficiency and unarmored ac, then either immediately take two levels of warlock for eldritch blast, or arguably better, go to sorcerer 5 first and then do the warlock dip, then skip the fighter dip and go all sorcerer for maximum sorcery points and spells of the highest level possible. This really comes online at level 7, much better than level 9 in a game that only goes to 12. No, you can't do four spells in one turn but you can do two per turn one more time than you could do as shown in the video, and you can make one of them a higher level spell, like wall of fire at level 9 instead of level 11. Plus you get fifth level spells, which are sometimes awesome.

should look into 5warlock and 7fighter(eldritch knight) level 7 ability war caster you get from EK7 is you get to melee attack after each cast of a cantrip, so you can really pump out a stupid amount of dmg just from cantrips and melee attacks. PLUS, the extra attack from warlock 5 from blade pact, stacks with the extra attack you get from fighter...so you can pump out a SHIT TON of dmg. 3x3 eldritch blasts and 3 melee attacks, plus you wield heavy armor and a shield AND, your melee attacks do a ton of dmg based off your charisma so you can max out your con and if you wanna use medium you can max out your dex as well, with the hag +1 And your first feat of +2 to charisma, you can use your 2nd and 3rd feats for medium armor master which gives you another dex while wearing medium armor, and you can get the armor proficiency from fighter for +2 ac, plus you can sneak around without malus from medium armor which is a nice bonus. you can also get spell sniper, with how many eldritch blasts you'll be using, the +1 crit range will have a LOT more opportunities to go off.
if you don't want the extra attack and invocation and feat from level 5 warlock. you can go 2bard(you need 3warlock from the blade pact)...but 2 bard gives you the song of short rest and since your warlock spells and action surge resets from short rests...it gives you extra hellish rebukes and another action surge and more bard spells.
Warlock and fighter are the 2 best classes to multiclass into/with.
you can even do a 3rogue/5warlock/4fighter for the extra bonus action. use mage armor from warlock invocation, super stack dex and charisma for the extra ac from dex. you can dual wield, both weapons using your charisma to attack, plus action surge, and you can get the ability point increase plus hag point to get dex and cha to 18 each. you get the dual weapon style from fighter and action surge, tho you loose out on the extra attack, but you make that up mostly from the bonus action you get from rogue. if you don't need the feat from fighter or the sublcass, you can go 1 monk and 1 barb, max out your dex/con so you can use a different invocation instead of mage armor, get the same ac with the unarmored bonus from barb for con to ac and you can use the thief bonus action to do a double unarmed strike, you can use both actions to get 4 unarmed strike plus your main weapon, and then with action surge another main weapon attack again, or 2 eldritch blasts and 4 unarmed strikes or 2 offhand strikes(with dual fighter style you get cha to your offhand attack so it hits like your mainhand but using a bonus action instead) so you can get an eldritch blast and 2 attacks each turn without doing anything. plus with rage, you can always do a full melee round with all the extra dmg from rage, with 4 unarmed strikes plus 2 main attacks and then the extra attack from warlock 5.
warlock/barb/monk work well together since they want to all be unarmored, fighter is just stupid good for multiclassing so even a 2warlock 1monk/1barb/3rogue/5fighter could work pretty well, depending on some decision making. tho you could drop warlock and do a 7fighter as well with battlemaster and have a ton of incombat melee options and attacks at your disposal.
the combo of 3rogue for the bonus action and monk using ki on bonus action and barb for ac and rage for all the attacks you'll be making in one round and 2 higher for action surge, is a very potent 6level combo that you can build upon/expand on in a LOT of different ways that are very strong. you can even just go 7monk from there or just go straight 8fighter which is VERY strong all on it's own. I would argue higher is probably the best straight 1-12 class in the game. which is why it's so strong for multiclassing because it's powerful at almost every level so if you just want 2 for surge or 3 for sublcass or 4 for feat or 5 for extra attack or 6 for another extra feat...it's perfect for whatever you're needing to piece together into your multiclass build but by going 6, you get that extra feat you usually lose from multiclassing and by going 8 fighter, you pick up that extra attack you're losing by multiclassing...it's almost like...at every level of fighter you're like...well i could just get one more level of fighter...
every class in the game is heavily front loaded but both warlock and fighter really make you wanna keep going instead of multiclassing so the juice has really gotta be worth the squeeze. but even 2warlock/2fighter is already stupid for the heavy armor/extra eldritch blast combo as well. and 8 levels of almost anything else can work really well with that.
the multiclass option in BG3 are fucking ENDLESS! I love it so much

If you'd like to look into somewhat of a meme-build...the tavern brawler salami machinegun is a thing...
throwing damage is broken atm and it adds gravity damage too.
if you build it right you can get around 55 dmg per salami with 9 attacks in one round, adding up to almost 500 dried meaty damage. (before gravity damage)
it needs a lot of buffs and pots to make it work to it's absolute fullest potential but it is legit the funniest thing ever even when you dont minmax the shit out of it.
just obliterate a single target in 1 round by throwing a bunch of salamis at them...that's peak gaming right there if you ask me.

But most importantly... you are not using any lightning charge equipment... you REALLY should. Even spell spark when you have charges make EACH HIT from eldritch blast trigger the charge, it's insane extra damage, plus each charge also procs hex, for a double dip, and it also procs agonizing blast too.

But for the radiating orb ring; you honestly don't need to ever cast light on yourself. From testing it around with my friends, you just have to be in a light source?? Or really attack them with magic, and that tends to give enough light. Cause when I've been playing, every time I attack creatures; it automatically gives them radiating orb.
There's also a hat called "Hat of Fire Acuity" in the shadow-cursed lands that gives you arcane acuity every time you deal fire damage. Arcane acuity gives you +1[or +2] to your spell save dc and spell attack for every round it's still up [max of 7 I believe, like with the ring]. The amount of bosses I've slowed so far is hilarious. Hmmm...I would only make a couple tweaks: For Fighting Style, since you want to be wielding the Staff of Spellpower or Markoheskir, you have a free hand for a shield. May as well be using one, and if you are the Protection fighting style imposes disadvantage on those trying to attack nearby allies. May as well make the rest of your group a lot harder to hit than do nothing with your fighting style.
I also don't like Repelling Blast. Too many times will you knock an enemy somewhere you can't loot them, or away from your tanks. I choose something else. You can also give Wyll the Staff of Spellpower, which is basically Markoheskir-Lite. You still get Arcane Battery, and can give Markoheskir to Gale.
And that stuff about lightning charges people are mentioning... No, I don't think it is worth it. First, you have to hit with an attack, so your first attack doesn't gain any damage, and you need 5 charges to start dealing an additional 1d8. Yeah, with multiple attacks you can build and use charges decently quickly, but why not just drop a fireball with Red or Gold draconic ancestry and just have the bonus?

the one thing I would caution/is super annoying with this build: warlock spells and sorcerer spells conflict on your hotbar, so it keeps trying to "fix" or "adjust" your hotbar every. single. time. you. reload. Before people go "well in setting you can change..." no. you can't. it stops items and ammunition being added. but when you have warlock spells that are the same slot as your sorcerer spells, it just takes it upon itself to remove the warlock spells and move sorcerer spells around on its own. The only way I can think of to get around it (not tested), is to have identical spells for whatever level your warlock spell slots end at.

Although with a level cap of only 12, I guess it makes it a trade off I don't know the math for tbh. +2 AC (no idea how magical shields get in BG3) vs Prof in those con saves which nets you additional +4 to con saves at level cap of 12th... Every damage you do also does extra thunder damage. The thunder damage rides on all other types of damages so it can stack many times. An easy example would be magic missiles, every tick gets extra damage. There are many other Interactions with it. 1 barb - con and dex contribute to ac. 2 warlock. 9 sorc. Better than getting 1 extra action per short rest imo. especially with the 23 neck. respec once you get the necklace and DUMP con.
This lets you start with 17(18 with the hair) cha and 16 dex.
    +6 (con mod) with +5 (dex with 2 ability increases) = 11 + 10 = 21 ac WITHOUT a shield. 24 with a +3 shield.
This also gives you another sorc level for a 5th level slot and an additional sorc point. Draconic scales from dragon sorc doesn't seem to stack so we can't get to 27 ac. but 24 (26 if you get shadowheart to cast shield of faith on you) is still nothing to sneeze at. This version might actually be better off with storm sorc. Fly as a bonus action for a 1st level spell slot is pretty handy. Especially if you are just going to rely on EB for damage.
Further more: since those cantrip gloves are a per rest ability. You can actually just skip them for the 18 dex gloves. This gear swap will lower you ac by 1 but also free up 2 feat slots.
