My garage is 22' x 32' insulated with 10 sidewalls and this heater will keep it 65-70 degrees if the outside temp is above 0. Any colder than that, I run a diesel heater to warm it up first, then the electric will hold the temp from there. it works pretty good and I can't even hear it with the stereo on.
For your readers: As an electrical guy, we use the National Electricial Code about like a preacher uses a Bible. It requires us to follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation. The current code, 2020, requires all recepticles in the garage or simular structures, out buildings, etc. To be gfci protected even up to 250 volt recepticles. That might add a lot of cost to your recepticle install. The NEC allows your local inspectors to adjust your requirements if needed. Now, as the homeowner, I cannot stop you from installing anything any way you want, but the NEC is written with the blood and tears of those that went before us into the electrical fray. If you install a receptacle in your garage for this or a car charger or your deep freeze, you need GFCI protection for that receptacle. No receptacle, no GFCI required for the receptacle that is not installed, just like he did here......no GFCI.
Would be a great video, if you installed correctly or had an electrician do that for you. Those call for #8 copper , (45amps max fuse size) (which is what it should be breakered at) the reason your heater is barely working cause it’s running that #10 to death and gonna cause heat
Ive watched several similar heater installation videos and always wondered, if people actually pivot their heaters? I hooked mine up in a corner above my work bench, but used the two outside holes on the hanger bracket, so the heater will not rotate/pivot. Nice video. Hope you get great use of your heater. I’ll be using two bolts as well. Once I figure out the direction, it’s going to stay that way. I also like a very neat looking and clean cable feed installation so that means there won’t be much slack... which also means minimal heater rotation. All good if you know what you want. 👍

The lowest tempature during Christmas will be 37 degrees farenhight. My questions is if I install a 5000-7000w electric heater, I have to installed a 240v outlet too right or it can be just hardwired?? Eventually I will buy a minisplit system and be getting rid of the electric heater. Will I be able to use the 240v outlet previously installed for electric heater when I install mini split in future?? Also we will be getting an electric car down the road so I will need a 240v outlet to charge car so what will be the correct pathway for my projects, install a 240v right now for electric heater so I have heater in man cave before Christmas or maybe just use propane heater just for that day🙄 until I figure out what minisplit system to buy?? Sorry for all the questions
I like your planning ahead. The instructions for the heater I installed said it had to be hard wired. You could always do that and then when you need an outlet and not the heater anymore, turn that junction box into an outlet. I am not an electrician. Our videos are more to show how we do something and not instructions on how to do it. I just hope they help with other people wondering if something is doable. Thanks for the comments and questions! So when iam ready to got rid of heater and install Mr cool 18000 BTUs minisplyt system I can use the same line to hardwire the minisplit. I am not sure if minisplit plug in into outlets? I think they gotta be hardwire too. When I get electric car iam thinking I have to run a new line to install 240v outlet to put in car?
I actually only had it on when I was going to be working in the garage, so I didn’t really pay much attention to that. I figured it would be a wash because the garage is below the living room so it might help keep the living room warmer. Thank you for the comment and question!

I was looking at dyi Costco 18000 btu Mr cool minisplit system which is $1600 but it has both ac/heating in one unit. I don't know which rout to go, get a heater dyna glow 15000 watts right now for $500 and buy something else for the summer time or just get the minisplit system?? I have a pool table in there and a gym:). I love in Clovis California in 9b zone I think or 9
This one worked fine for my garage, but it’s about 600 square feet and a basement level garage so it would only get to the low 40s - upper 30s. The heater would get it to the upper 60s. Made it nice for working on the truck.
Ok well I'm wondering if my heater is a dud I installed in a 20 by 30 garage and even with pre propain heat it dose nothing to warm it or keep it warm this puts out less heat that a 110v heater like I can hold my hand directly infront of it on high and just warm air comes out its upsetting and wondering if I just did something wrong. And you’re installment of the heater you show three wires a red black and green no white but when you put it on the circuit breaker, you put the black and the white what happened to the red when you put it on the unit you put the red in the black something is totally wrong
I've had this heater for a couple of years now, and just in the past week or two, the thermostat knob stopped turning the heater on. I have lights, so it's receiving power, but no matter how much fiddling I do with it (and the three power levels) it just won't turn on. Have you heard of anything like that before with respect to these heaters?

I have a nearly identical unit and I wired it exactly as you did. It has an amber power light when off but when they thermostat is turned clockwise when it "clicks" the Amber light goes out and nothing happens. If I turn it back to minimal or off the Amber light comes on again. WTF?
@@lockporttransport I also had that issue at first. I checked the voltage at the breaker and one side was 110v and the other was very low. I put a new breaker in and that took care of the issue.
I’m confused. At the heater it looks like red and black but at the breaker looks like a black and white. Maybe I’m seeing things. What happened to the red at the breaker?
@@akelkhunter You seen it right. Remember he only used flex conduit for a short run. He has a junction box that he used romex to finish wiring to the breaker box. Listen closely and he said that. That is why the different colors. He didn't show that part of the connections but it's common.
I think it just depends on the wire you use. 8-2 would be black and white with ground. 8-3 would have black, white and red with ground. This heater only needed 8-2.

You will probably need a 50amp breaker and heavier gauge wire for the electric car.
Where does the other end of the red wire go?
#10 wire is not correct.. should be 40 amps because you will use only 80% of breaker sizer per code.. that's like 32 amps..

I’m not an electrician, but I would say no. Each heater would most likely need its own wire and circuit ran.

I’m sorry, I actually sold that house and moved, so I can’t try mine and see what temp is blowing out of it.
Did you hook this up to a plug in or just run it straight to your electric panel
I believe the instructions said to hard wire it so that is what I did.

you didnt mark the neutral as a hot
I don't see a white wire. Just red and black. Red and black are both 120VAC relative to neutral but 180 deg. out of phase to give you 240 VAC.

That is correct.
Both leads are 120, so doesn’t matter if they go to L1 or L2. Again, I’m not an electrician,but that’s the way I made the connections. Thanks!

No slack on the wires to help with movement, something that should be done anyways. Another hack video.
He just demonstrated the movement on the unit. There is plenty of slack on that cable.
