'Got any biscuits?' - there's a TMF T-shirt and Merch idea right there! Great vid as usual. Gotta agree with others, the Biker Scran series is one of my favourites too.
A great video and a lovely way to ease into the first weekend of the New Year. Super to see that the Shack Cafe seems to rely on getting the basics right - clean, friendly and good food - and definitely one to lodge in the memory bank in case I am ever "Hungry in Hampshire" on a future ride!
Good start to 2023, welcome to Hampshire , if down this way again, try Station Cafe, Alton, start of the Watercress Line , a fry up and steam engines, what’s bit to like!
I've commented on a few of these now - but really enjoyable to watch, I passed my test last year with my dad and our favourite thing to do is ride out somewhere random and try a new café. Great watch and hope there's more to come
I had a 2018 900RS in that stealth green colour. Loved it & it really stood out against the ‘common’ orange ones. Gave me hooligan hiatus between my two GSs & reminded me of the Z250 Scorpion I had when I was 18.
Ridden past there many times, looks good though. I recommend BMW dealer at Farringdon near Alton for breakfast, then head over to Billys On The Road cafe in Billingshurst via Goodwood for lunch then head north home stopping at Rykers cafe at Box Hill. This route will take you over the Hampshire downs and the Surrey Hills, it’s best for summer as it will be day.
Hi Andy, I'm really sorry we missed you, our opening hours are actually updated regularly on our FB and Google pages so not sure what happened on this occasion. But please do give us a try another time, and if you can let me know beforehand (via FB or Google message) that would be great so I can greet you in person! Cheers, Paul (Owner).
Thanks chaps for coming across the Shack Cafe. Sometimes the simplest looking places have the best food. If you fancy venturing further west the Hillside Cafe on the A36 near Warminster is a proper caff (not open at the weekend) Cheers
Great how these surprises get thrown at you when you least expect them. I've been to a few places you wouldn't expect much but have been pleasantly surprised. Thank you TMF and the Scran boys keep it up
I Love the sound of your GS when you go up through the box, The Shack looks like it's worth a ride out. PS Scran is a phrase used by all three services, yes it just means food.
"No! Please God no! Not a garden center!" A nerve has been struck??? Heh. Pleased to hear the The Shack Cafe, not only filled the slot but did it well. I liked that color scheme on the Z900rs as well and will be on the lookout for on this side of the pond.
Hi Andy. Always look forward to a Biker Scran, its good to discover places you might not know about, you find 'em, & we use 'em as an excuse to go for a ride! 😀 Great series.
Dealership I bought my bike online from them last year so never see the place. Great service very happy. Sorry message in two parts hit wrong button. Take care
While visiting London this past summer, my wife and I went to the Bike Shed. We had a great lunch and purchased plenty of merchandise to take back to the States. You should give it a go.
How ya...... as originally coming from that neck of the woods it's great to see the 'The Shack cafe' still doing the business...... oh and Scran originates from "the Dutch word 'schranzen' which means to consume excessively" Happy New year 👍
Always enjoy this series, also the banter at the bike dealership was a real treat. If I may suggest maybe a meet up at the Superbike Factory for a wonder , discussing the inventory. Thanks for all your efforts:
Yet another great little video on 'biker scran'. I love this series, because it is so natural looking. It was great to see Geoff and Dan looking as dapper as ever. The Iron Bull has a lot to live up to now.
What are you like, but great that you found the shack cafe.. if in that area in summer, check out the A339 from Alton to Basingstoke.. a lovely road with lots of sweeping bends and the Departure lounge cafe has classic car meets each month.
Hi Andy I see you were in my neck of the woods and the iron Bull is a great plc to visit and I've been to the shack cafe a few times with my biker mates as a starting point for a rideout
Wow would not have believed that guys “the shack cafe” what a place. Don’t think you was expecting that either and what a result. Must say I really enjoy the biker scran’s great banter from 3 cracking guys. Bring on the next one Andy great entertainment for sure
Great video. Love seeing the scenery in other parts of the country and catching up with you friends. Glad your friend was safe after his clash with the white van. Scran is definitely a naval term. I served for 11 years in the Royal Navy and scran was the term for food.
Good to have that confirmed! Does it stand for sultanas currents raisins and nuts as others have mentioned?? Sounds like it could be historically true??
@@TheMissendenFlyer indeed it does. Scran, which almost everybody who has served in the Armed Forces will instantly know to mean food, actually has a deeper meaning. Its origin comes from the Royal Navy practice of supplementing sailors' diets with additional portions of Sultanas, Currants, Raisins and Nuts - which can be shortened to 'SCRAN'.
The Iron Bull Roadhouse is a wonderful place, hopefully you'll head back when it's actually open x Run by a biker. Come on a Thursday evening when it has a great bike night. Food and company is fantastic.
That put the Shack on the Map Andy. Nice one, and it's highly rated on Tripadvisor. Made me hungry just watching you three. Logged it for a future ride out. Thanks to all three of you.
Great ride to start the year - Oh it’s closed, oh I didn’t read the website as carefully as I should’ve 🤦🏼♂️ who’s not been there. 🤞 for a great New Year Andy!
Another great Biker Scran video, shame the original place was shut. I did wonder where you were going up the lane and your encounter with the reversing Grandad, a very young and impressionable version of me once stood at a gate there when it was RAF Greenham Common. It's changed a lot since 1986. Looking forward to many more with the Gents, just hope Geoff doesn't attract any more white vans...
Nice one Andy. Black pud, the food of the gods! Lol. It's surprising how many relatively unknown exelent caffes are around. Definitely worth a second visit for you and your mates 👍🍳.
Great video, and it was great to see the Basingstoke area as I have/had family in Basingstoke. They were originally from Micheldever which I believe is a little south of there.
The Shack Cafe was a diamond in the ruff. I've often come across wonderful little eateries by chance. Since covid hit many establishments shut their doors never to reopen. Sure looked like a 9 to me also. 👍👍🏍🏍🏍🙋♂️
Failing to plan....however although I'd never heard of "The Iron Bull", it's in my neck of the woods and I plan to check it out for myself soon, so thanks for the tip-off.
Love the biker 'scram'. Do the same with my riding buds here in British Columbia. The banter gets me laughing out loud - always a good sign. Thanks Andy
Well....I don't believe it Andy...I used to work all over repairing school sports equipment and I sure remember Hook's shack cafe a nice simple food stop, I also had the black pudding excellent in my books too. well done good fun film Andy.
Please do come back and try the iron bull roadhouse. The breakfast is superb as is the rest of the menu. Paul is an excellent host too. It’s a real favourite with bikers for miles around.
I think it was me that recommended it! Sorry the Iron Bull was closed, they usually close in January for holiday & maintenance ... Thanks for the Shack Cafe visit - never stopped there before! :-)
@@TheMissendenFlyer fair play! 🙂 maybe I'll see you there next time 🙂 I'll be popping to the Shack Cafe soon though - always ride past it to the Iron Bull, but now it looks like a great option 🙂
My best mate makes custom motor bike seats. You can install a heated filament to any seat. You can just keep your seat standard, and he will open it up, install the heated filament and then its just down to you to plug in the wires. Its all fairly easy to do.
Funny how things work out. Love the biker scan series. I recommend the station cafe at Alton for good service. I use it when getting my multistrada serviced
Nice to Basingstoke being featured, plus it’s surroundings have great roads. From Basingstoke to Chichester via Alton etc on the A339 and B3006 are great roads to ride!
Hi Andy and a happy new year to you. Love your work and enjoy watching your videos/reviews. The Z900RS you saw at Greenham Kawasaki was released end of 2017 and available early 2018. The model you saw was the "Covert green" colour scheme and was released together with Candytone Brown & orange or fondly referred to as "Jaffa" and Spark black colours (you tested this Spark black" version in 2018). The "cafe" version came in lime green as in Kwaks from the 1980's, especially the racing bikes. The "nice Kawasaki" you referred to at around the 17th minute mark on the video, is now in my garage - the R1250GS Rallye. Keep up the good work and check out the Super Sausage Cafe in Potterspury on the A5 between Towcester and Milton Keynes. A great biker venue. 🫡
Andy as you mentioned your trusty sat nav, would you please say what make/version you are using and how easy it is to install at some point. I see sat navs appear on most of the bikers videos but they feature very little compared with most accessories such as clothing and hardware like mirrors. Sailors used to have SCRAN rations (Sultanas, Currents, Raisins and Nuts). Thanks
Thanks for a fun episode. Shows you can’t judge a place by its cover. I use a heated jacket liner and am good down to freezing (32 over here). Thanks again.
Hi Andy. I can highly recommend Granny’s Cafe in Weedon Northamptonshire. Located in the centre of the village and just 0.5 of a mile off the A5. Great home cooked food and a warm welcome. Worth ringing ahead on a weekend to secure a table. Try the home baked cakes if you have room. Keep up the great work
took a couple goes to get that pause right! i was brought up in the 70's as well! good to see you back on the GS, i always hit the like button before watching, love your work!
When I worked on the Marquees 30 years ago as a lad, 2 x cheese on toast, baked beans and chips would be enough fuel for the day and I've not been in there since. It's had a lick of paint since then 😎
Very enjoyable Andy ,keep thinking of down sizing too. Hard to get rid of hwy comfort though of the ultra limited here in Canada with the big open spaces. 🍻😎🏍️💨💨💨💨💨👍🏻🇨🇦 from bc. 😊
interesting to hear your thoughts on the Michelin Road 6 tyres. I found that mine took above 2000 miles to bed in before they gave me the confidence I'd experienced on the road 5s they replaced - they were somewhat unsettled at speed for the first 2000 miles. Wear does look incredible though on the 6s (I had above 11,000 miles on the road 5s - they wore in quickly and lasted very well) on my BMW K1300GT
a great day out......best laid plans that get turned on their head generally make a great day out ........the shack cafe looks like a typical great english greasy spoon cafe!
Wow. Wish we’d known you were in our area. Let us know when you’re coming back to Iron Bull Roadhouse (used to be a pub, we didn’t know it had changed) we’ll join you. Have driven past The Shack countless times…. will be popping in there soon after your review 👍 we love following your channel. Thanks for giving us so much content to enjoy 🤩
The unknown one's seem to be surprisingly the better ones. Safe rides. Didn't even break the mirror. Close one for certain. That used R1250 GS looked good. Waiting for the 1300 or 1400 edition. All water cooled aluminum frame lower seat. Got to be better we hope
I was laughing at the start of this video as I only went down that part of the A4 yesterday. That spot the nav took you past its where we park the car up and go for a walk around Greenham Common. Great video!
Hey Andy - Im highly recommending Doms Bike Stop on the A44 just outside Leominster in the Welsh Borders - I know thats a fair distance for you guys but well worth the trip in the summer months - way more than a bikers cafe - its has camping - an outdoor stage for bands - a bar in the evenings - lots of outdoor seating as well as great food and coffee etc
Hi, have been to the Shack lots of times, I used to work in Hook and bacon sarnies were a staple morning take out. Breakfast is great too. Glad you ended up there as it is often missed off and was close to shutting down due to the ‘Covid’ effect, glad to see it getting such a high score. I have yet to sample the Iron Road House as well, heard it can be a bit pricey!
@@TheMissendenFlyer I think it’s the interaction between Geoff Dan and you, they come across very natural and maybe can we see more of them in your videos 👍🏻
Ahh… Greenham Common. That brings back memories. I attended a gliding competition there just before it become a USAF base housing cruise missiles. The runway there was huge, 4,000 x 100 metres. During the contest a protest was put in, as usual, against the actor Christopher Reeve who was one of the competitors. It was alleged he didn’t need a glider to fly. I’m also very surprised Geoff did not require a comprehensive change of underwear after his close encounter. That would have been a truly trouser packing moment. I thought he was every composed considering how close he came to an unplanned and very unpleasant outcome. That was another great Biker Scran. You found a really good place to eat, the sort we used to have all over the country before the corporate types moved in and imposed burgers, chicken, fries and pop on us all. That was a find. I enjoyed that. Thank you.
Wow Trevor you're older than you look! That is quite a claim gliding against Superman - what a tragic end he had.... And yes we may have made light of it but Geoff was quite shocked - could have been a whole different type of day that one. Lesson for us all on taking corners wide....
Hey bud, Happy New Year! Jeff or is it Geoff, apologies, was real lucky that day, that could have had disastrous consequences. There's no beating a roadside greasy spoon for a good meal when it's cold and miserable outside. Don't think I didn't see you eyeing up that Zed, the excitement in your voice gave it away too 😁
Great episode Mr flyer!! I've lived in Basingstoke all my life and I've never tried the Shack Cafe! So I'll definitely be taking the Gen3 Hayabusa there from now on!! Great content as always!
A van had to swerve out of my way getting here .... 😆 Half way through and I am loving it. Nothing like meeting up with good friends to ride especially in the winter! I have had several bird strikes on my left mirror in the summer but never had a van close enough to do that on the right. Scary stuff.. It was probably van mirror projecting out further that hit it? I used to live in Fleet, a few miles from Hook and I rode past the Shack 100's of times without knowing it was there. Lovely to see the area on video. South and west of Hook there is a lot of beautiful rolling countrside.
I love that line of Dans - made me laugh again when I edited it, invariably I spot Dans best comedy after the event when I’m editing - his “I’m feeling a spanner” comment passed me by at the time for example….hilarious!!
I finally was able to read your pop up by slowing down the video. Well said and love your channel. I have been a sub for 3 years now and appreciate seeing biking in your part of the world. I really enjoyed your Alaska trip! My bike is a BMW F900R
Hi Andy, I lived in Bramley Hampshire, left at age 9 to drive to New Zealand in a Bedford campervan with my parents in 1969. Dad was the Commandant of the RAOC depot in Bramley, I remember taking the train into Basingstoke often, thanks for the short visit. Just wondering if you might just visit Bramley on one of your biker scrans, would love to see it again. Cheers.
Hi Andy, another great video, i do love the Biker scran vids!! You need to try the Touchdown Cafe at Wellesbourne near Stratford-upon-Avon. You will love it, right at the side of Wellesbourne airfield!! Great food, friendly service. If you go on a sunny day, sit outside and watch the planes taking off too!! Me and my wife have ridden there a couple of times!! It can get busy, but that means the food is worth it!! Try it, mate. I think it'll be right up your street!! Keep the vids coming! From Paul & Marie 👍🏼
Best way to go to the Iron Bull or Basingrad is via Christmas Common (or Wattlington), Henley, Twyford, Swallowfield, Heckfield, Hook. None of that a404 or m4 rubbish 😊 Iron Bull is worth trying again when open 😂 Loomies is not too far away too, very popular. Not tried the Shack despite passing it a million times, looks good 👍
First Happy New Year to everyone. I always enjoy the Biker Scran. When the plans change, and it works out I would consider that a good day. I decided to take a break from UA-cam over the holidays, so I am behind on several channels including yours. I will go back and catch up. I know I won't be disappointed. Normally I close with looking forward to the next video but in this instance, I am looking forward to catching up and the next video.
Hi Andy, I've been following your channel for a while now. I think Biker Scran is the best series on the channel.
Glad you think so! More to come when the weather gets better I’m sure!

Yes agree
Biker scran with Andy, Geoff and Dan rules. I really enjoy videos like this. Big thanks to the 3 of you!!

Sailors used to have SCRAN rations (Sultanas, Currents, Raisins and Nuts). Thanks
Yes it’s the BMW nav 5 - actually made by Garmin….
Another biker scran. Happy days. What biking is all about.
A fantastic Biker Scran. Well done to the Shack cafe, the food looked very tasty. 10/10.🍳
Thanks for a fun episode. Shows you can’t judge a place by its cover. I use a heated jacket liner and am good down to freezing (32 over here). Thanks again.
Yes I have a couple of those - rarely need them but when you do - a god send.....
Keep up the great work
And a wander Round weedon Bec !
Such a unique place
Sounds good - on the list!
As you mention Greenham, there is now a cafe on Greenham Common in the old control tower I just thought it might be a fitting venue.
Ooh that sounds interesting.
took a couple goes to get that pause right! i was brought up in the 70's as well! good to see you back on the GS, i always hit the like button before watching, love your work!
Nice one Glenn....cheers!
When I worked on the Marquees 30 years ago as a lad, 2 x cheese on toast, baked beans and chips would be enough fuel for the day and I've not been in there since. It's had a lick of paint since then 😎
Glad Jeff was OK, I owned one of those Versys 1000GTs and it was brilliant and reliable. Good to see the MT10 in showroom. Lucky find in the cafe 👍
Wow 11k!! Best I’ve ever managed is 8!!
Great cafe that one TMF been there loads 👍 great to see you all out again thanks for sharing 👍😊
Our pleasure!
Funnily I did the same Andy, and they were shut again. Looks like they are only open from Wednesday afternoon through to Sunday afternoon.
a great day out......best laid plans that get turned on their head generally make a great day out ........the shack cafe looks like a typical great english greasy spoon cafe!
It sure is! Friendly and great value (especially when Geoff pays!)
Our pleasure!
Loved the video, the ride, the Kawasaki dealer, the food at the shack cafe. Miss my England. Wish I was there for the ride with you guys.❤
Where are you now?
The unknown one's seem to be surprisingly the better ones. Safe rides. Didn't even break the mirror. Close one for certain. That used R1250 GS looked good. Waiting for the 1300 or 1400 edition. All water cooled aluminum frame lower seat. Got to be better we hope
Yes I cannot wait to see the new GS....
I was laughing at the start of this video as I only went down that part of the A4 yesterday. That spot the nav took you past its where we park the car up and go for a walk around Greenham Common. Great video!
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey Andy - Im highly recommending Doms Bike Stop on the A44 just outside Leominster in the Welsh Borders - I know thats a fair distance for you guys but well worth the trip in the summer months - way more than a bikers cafe - its has camping - an outdoor stage for bands - a bar in the evenings - lots of outdoor seating as well as great food and coffee etc
Sounds brill!
We shall go again and report back!
One of your best videos yet Andy, well done 👍🏻
Really? Wow - thank you!
Don't think I didn't see you eyeing up that Zed, the excitement in your voice gave it away too 😁
Yes if I had the room I'd have one in a heart beat....
Great episode Mr flyer!!
I've lived in Basingstoke all my life and I've never tried the Shack Cafe!
So I'll definitely be taking the Gen3 Hayabusa there from now on!!
Great content as always!
Tell ‘em I sent you!
I think it was mirror to mirror but too close for comfort!
Cool - where are you based?
@@TheMissendenFlyer Circleville Ohio
All the best for 2023 love the vids keep em coming.
Thank you!
Cheers.
You never know - I imagine their apple pies are pretty good?
Hi Andy, another great video, i do love the Biker scran vids!! You need to try the Touchdown Cafe at Wellesbourne near Stratford-upon-Avon. You will love it, right at the side of Wellesbourne airfield!! Great food, friendly service. If you go on a sunny day, sit outside and watch the planes taking off too!! Me and my wife have ridden there a couple of times!! It can get busy, but that means the food is worth it!! Try it, mate. I think it'll be right up your street!! Keep the vids coming! From Paul & Marie 👍🏼
Yes I have frequented that by air in the past - maybe time for a two wheeled visit….
When you get into Thatcham you can go into newbury and out to basingstoke that way. great roads
Best way to go to the Iron Bull or Basingrad is via Christmas Common (or Wattlington), Henley, Twyford, Swallowfield, Heckfield, Hook. None of that a404 or m4 rubbish 😊
Iron Bull is worth trying again when open 😂 Loomies is not too far away too, very popular.
Not tried the Shack despite passing it a million times, looks good 👍
Yes worth a go for sure!
