I'm always hesitant when I see people reacting to Tool songs with the music videos. If it's your first listen it's distracting and takes attention away from the music. The videos, as amazing as they truly are, should really come after the first couple of listens. They can be a little much. *broken record noise*
Tool is that band that is on another level. In order to embrace their content, you have to be not just open minded, but you have to be on another level.
@@Chevymonster203 I mean some of their songs, his voice does get very filtered with where it’s hard to punctuate some of his words. But you can definitely take away some morale from the theme of the song for sure.
My take on the black ball. The black ball represents his dark/negative side, it starts small and he ignores it. As time passes it grows and like most ignored things it lashes out, killing the little guy. The guy shows anger at the ball and leaves trying to get away from it. As he walks through to woods the ball follows him, now representing his sins which he can't escape. At the end he stops running and accepts his sins/darkness/negative side which then triggers his evolution. Even the darkest part of you is still a part of you, rejecting it is rejecting your self, with out it you can never be whole. If you don't understand why you are the way you are then you are ruled by the way you are. Ask why, why am I this way, why do I want to do these things, why wont I do what I want to do. Only by knowing the why can you be the ruler instead of the ruled.
By all means check out more Tool. Advice though, react to the audio. View the official video on a second private viewing. Adam’s artistic interpretations are worth viewing and he is talented with both his guitar and with his visual effects but, they can and do distract. The audio versions allow you to concentrate on the music. Just some advice.
If no one has told you, Adam Jones the guitarist also works in the movie industry as a special effects artist. The Tool videos are his creation you can't read into it at all. He has worked on big projects think like Terminator 2 ect.
My husband and bestfriend passed last year. He died of cancer, when Maynard says this body holding me, im not alone, I cry everytime. He was alone with his illness but wasn't alone because others suffer too.
The guitarist Adam Jones created the art in this video, Sober and I think all the videos Before co-founding Tool, Adam worked for an SFX studio. Adam did the T-Rex and Velociraptor FX on Jurassic Park. Then he quit to go play in the greatest Rock band on the planet.
Matt and chels I can't wait until you guys had a million subscribers I'm a big fan of you guys and every time you guys go on stream at night you guys make my night in my book you guys are a legend I love you too both
I find such joy in watching new listeners to Tool go down the rabbit hole. I've loved them since 1993. I know all of their songs like the back of my hand, so I get to live through your first experiences "Vicariously. 😍
Adam Jones actually created the video for Schism. He also did a bunch of work on the Terminator movies in special effects. He's a lot more talented than just the guitar.
The break down in Lateralus "feel the rhythm..." gets me everytime. Jambi can too sometimes. "Damn my eyes" part. Weird right? It's not the meaning so much as the raw emotion. 10,000 days. Obviously. I can't listen to that without crying like a baby after I lost my dad. He was a fan too. The song made him cry when he lost his mom. So it's torture for me now.
Adam Jones the guitarist was offered a film scholarship but declined and chose to move to Los Angeles to study art and sculpture. His interest shifted to film, and he began to work as a sculptor and special effects designer, where he learned the stop motion camera techniques he would later apply in Tool's music videos, such as "Sober", "Prison Sex", "Stinkfist", "Ænema", "Schism", "Parabola", and "Vicarious". He graduated in 1987. After graduation, he went to work at Rick Lazzarini's Character Shop. During the next two years, he worked on the TV show Monsters. He designed and fabricated a Grim Reaper makeup and a zombie head on a spike (later used in Ghostbusters II) among others. After that, he went to Stan Winston's special effects workshop, where he worked on Predator 2, sculpting a unique-looking skull for the Predator's spaceship interior. Jones worked on several other films in Hollywood doing makeup and set design, including Jurassic Park, Batman Returns, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, Dances with Wolves, and Ghostbusters II. He did the "Freddy Krueger in the womb" makeup for A Nightmare on Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, as well as worked for A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. Tool refused to be in their videos well before youtube even existed, so if you never saw them live you wouldn't be able to pick them out of a line up. This gave Adam the chance to use his art to protect Tool's image.
So, a few things I'd like to say. First of all, if you're not familiar with Tool usually it's best to not see the official video clip on a first listen, since they can be quite distracting. All of Tool videos are directed and produced by Adam Jones, Tool's guitar player, since prior to Tool he used to work in Hollywood as a special effects artist and set designer and was involved in some really huge blockbusters, like Jurassic Park and Terminator 2. Also, I think you missed it, but the guy in the video it's actually Tricky (in case you don't know who he is it's one of the biggest names in the Trip-Hop scene and an original member of the Wild Bunch and Massive Attack). Tool is indeed a very complex band, both musically and lyrically, with extreme attention to every detail and usually everything you'll hear, read or see it's intentional. Hope you guys do a few more of them. My usual suggestion it's to start off from their earlier stuff and move forward. A lot of the internet Tool fans are from a younger generation and tend to just request their more recent stuff, but I think it's important to understand how they evolved in all aspects over time. But anyway, that's just my opinion and suggestion, feel free to do it however you like. Have fun in the meanwhile!
Everyone thought I was weird when I was a teenager so to make them think I was weirder I would show them these videos and everyone knew they were my fave band 😂
What you oughta do is look up a lyric video and just go along with the lyrics. It will put you in tune with the song. Tool is known For having music videos that have almost no relevance to the song.
Being metal fans apparently... you should check out their song "Ticks and Leeches". Its a song they wrote in response to their record label pushing them to be more "radio friendly "... and that song is their middle finger to the industry.
Not "Literally" but I will BLEEP My Pants if they play the song "SOBER" next weekend. I've seen them 5 times, never got to hear SOBER live. Fingers crossed. See ya in NOLA
That black craft hoodie tho , by the way the guy who made the video is the guitarist he has some speciality in plastic arts and special effects something like that i am pretty shure that he make some stuff for the movies , dance with wolves, nightmare on elm street 5 , ghostbusters 2 and jurassic park
Love the reaction. You will love all their stuff I think. And their videos are all really great too. But the videos can be distracting from the lyrics on a first listen. Just my opinion. Would definitely recommend giving it another listen with just the audio.
I love watching kids react to tool. Yes they are kids.. I’m 54 ..sooo anyways it brings me joy.. back to when I first heard them.. if that makes sense .
you guys were talking so you might have missed what be and what has been considered Tool's greatest message to us......."recognize this as a Holy gift and Celebrate this chance to be Alive and Breathing"....they don't get enough credit for the message they put out....this album (Lateralus) and this song may have possibly saved my life in 2001.......Tool is unique, In a world filled with music they sound like no one, and no one else really sounds like them.....after 30 years....think about that
Hi yes, it's just in this video, it's supposed to be like this (because of better explenation of this song...or something like that). so, that thing are parabol/parabola that looks like a U in math. In the comments below this video, I saw one guy explaining this video perfectly, so take a look;)

7:41 - Heh, kind of like Aphex Twin's Windowlicker or Rubber Johnny, gotta be in the right mindspace? Love Tool but yeah, the videos are probably more challenging than the songs in most cases. Adam is incredibly talented with that stuff though and it's part of the story-telling flex.
The reactor's experience is so drastically different to this song depending on if they watch the video or just hear the song lol. Too bad your Patreon person didn't specify.

As a Tool fan for 30+ years, I suggest that you do Tool lyric videos first. The lyrical genius is part of the experience. The actual videos tend to be distracting when you’re starting out 😉
If you’re new to tool, don’t watch the music videos. They’re too distracting from the music. Stick with the original, album version, or a high quality live version. You’ll be doing yourself a favor
Really appreciate you guys doing Tool. However, just a little pet peeve. With Tool you have to choose reacting to the song or the video. You can’t do both, they are both just too artistic. Do the song with a lyric video first. If you want to watch the video later cool. They are art in their own right.

Agreed. Life changing.
Only one band better. Cliche but they are.

Also need to listen carefully to the lyrics, the lyrics are straight magic. It transcends time ans space.

By the way this is actually 2 songs. Parabol and parabola
The third eye scene in the music video, combined with Adam's riff and Danny's supporting fill is CRAAAAAAZY
