In case you wondered...the Fibonacci sequence is in the syllable counts of each line of the lyrics in the verses... "Black(1),then(1),white are(2),all I see(3),in my in-fan-cy(5),red and yel-low then came to be(8),rea-ching out to me(5),lets me see(3)" The syllable counts keep going up and down the sequence throughout the verses "swinging on the spiral"...
This entire album is pure enlightenment, any day you're questioning life, your purpose, your sadness, your happiness....run this album from end to end.....Maynard is pure, he gets it, he realized at this point in life that he needed to look inside and fix himself, take the time to read the lyrics.....
Still to this day my all time favorite Tool song. Also Mat and Chels I agree with you and recommend going for a walk and listening to this album from front to back, I hate using a cliche but Tool is something that is an experience more than just a band imo. Maynard’s voice is totally ASMR for sure lol
You guys should do yourselves a favor, and just expect that you're never going to fully grasp the lyrics to a Tool song, until you've had a few listens and a chance to digest. The band intentionally crafts their music this way. If you happen to grasp everything on first listen, bonus! Just, the band doesn't expect you to, so we shouldn't either. Great reaction, I can't wait to see more!
My top 5: The Pot, The Patient, Right in Two, Invincible, Jambi. Ticks & Leeches will always have a place in my heart bc it got me into Tool (I later learned the irony of that statement). Tool fans would be along for the ride if y'all chose to react to their chronological discography. Short of that I'd recommend eventually reacting to: Forty Six & 2, Aenema, Pushit Pretty much all of Lateralus lol: The Grudge, The Patient, Schism, Ticks & Leeches, Disposition/Reflection/Triad Jambi, Wings For Marie + 10,000 days, The Pot, Rosetta Stoned, Right in Two Invincible, Descending, 7empest Keep it up guys!! Enjoyed it!
Tool puts on the best indoor concert ever,. Outside they still kick ass but indoors they punch you in the face with their music, how they roll it off the ceiling. Feels like an acid trip.
Chels I/m right there with you .I graduated in '93 and remember hearing sober and thinking yeah this rocks. But I never really knew at the time how complex and unique Tool really is.I know appreciate and love Tool now more than ever .And yes ,some herb definitely enhances all Tool songs !
Lateralus is basically lateral thought. The parts of the song where the Fibonacci sequence show up are in the verses. His syllable count follows the sequence up and then back down. And the chorus is a sequence of 9/8, 8/8, 7/8 time signatures. 987 is a number in the sequence as well. There are other things scattered throughout the song that are more subtle, but those are usually the easiest things to catch. He also talks a lot about spiral, which in and of itself represents the Fibonacci sequence.
I live for reactions to this song. The best reaction I’ve seen was an hour long, and the dude gave an initial review and then his final thoughts one week later after listening multiple times
Haha I commended him for taking his time to digest and appreciate it. When I got into Tool at first starting 2001 it was with a guitarist's ears. Then I started playing drums and it all took on a new meaning. Later I got into the lyrics and I found yet another level of appreciation. One simply can't absorb what they need to on a single listen.
Must hear Tool songs: Sober Stinkfist 46&2 Aenima Vicarious The Pot Schism Parabol!Parabola (must be played together) Right in Two Jambi Ticks and Leaches No Quarter (Led Zeppelin cover) The Holy Trinity (research this one first) Fear Innoculum Pneuma Invincible Culling Voices Descending Tempest
Time does not pass while you’re listening to TθθL. It is conceivable to achieve immortality by creating/playing a mix wherein there are no gaps between their songs.
It's about learning from the experience of life and never stop learning. "Keep going, spiral out." A Spiral reaches into the unknown faster and faster by "spiraling out", the curves getting bigger every spin. Constant learning and improving may bring us to "where no one has been".
Lateralus inspired me to go skydiving on my own 50th birthday. Wore a Tool shirt when I did it. Don't let your overthinking and over analyzing stop you from going with the flow. Trust your instincts and enjoy life. Don't be afraid of taking chances.. Spiral Out!
@@-TRIAD- 😂😂 Hey bud. oh yeah I noticed 😂. He's having a great year, let's hope we meet him in the playoffs once we take care of Tampa 😆👊🏼 And correct, listening to TOOL 🤘🏼👁🌀🌀
Guitarist Adam Jones before Tool made/sculptured the dinosaur's in Jurassic Park. He does their videos, hence their uniqueness. But the songs r better w/o videos so as to concentrate on the great music and singing.
Boston Bruins! You are lucky, Boston will win Stanley Cup this year. The one last time for Bergeron, Krejci, etc. Do you follow NHL? Avs is my fave team. I also like teams with finnish players 🤣, btw, Gas Lipstick is huge fan of Pittsburgh Penguins
I have been listening to this song for over 20 years and I still get goosebumps
me too. What a great piece of art
Same here! 👋
Do you remember when it came out?
@@davidward9737 yeah, two days before my birthday, I waited in front of the record store to open that morning.

We watched an incredible making of video someone put together on UA-cam. Tool are truly fascinating!
As be-low so a-bove and be-yond I I-mag-ine(13), Drawn be-yond the lines of rea-son (8), Push the en-ve-lope (5), watch it bend (3)
I remember the first time I spun this album in my discman. I still get those goosebumps when The Grudge kicks in.
the Grudge, what is it? 23 second scream.. that's the shit.
Congratulations! You just listened to the greatest song ever written, composed, and played.
Correct me if Im wrong.. These two are just about to appreciate riding inside the Tool rabbit hole :)

"Why's it sound like youre in a womb?"
I believe thats actually a fetal heartbeat they put in the mix.

One of the best lyricists I've ever encountered, amazing technical prowess by all bandmates, Tool is still a journey everytime I listen to them.

Black and white. Are the only spectrum a baby sees. Then the color spectrum, of red and yellow follows. As they grow.
Great reaction!!! More Tool!!!!!!!
More to come!
Hoping to see your bruins in the playoffs, Toronto has to get them eventually
15th January 2001, bought it just after midnight, a full eighteen hours before Maine, USA.
It’s one of the best songs ever made. Truly.
Dr freemanstein yes ! Fibonacci sequence. It is one of the most amazing concepts for a song and the album is the same. Blew my mind
I knew before you said it what else you had in mind when you said take a walk haha.
The art work is by Alex Grey
Reaching out🔥
you two would enjoy The Grudge
Maynard is amazing yall should do Perfect Circle, Judith
Fun thing if you don't know but there's a video of this song being done....on koto. It's really good & it worked really well

I can't tell if I'm subscribing for the B's jersey or for the TOOL reaction, lol
Fan of the Black & Gold spokes. And Tool. 🙂
Mat, you look like Jay and Silent Bob had a baby.
