I remember back in the day, the ONLY way to watch these videos, was on Danny's website. He had them posted and I remember being in AWE of them, in this tiny little QuickTime window on my PC. I downloaded them and would show them to all my drummer friends. The resolution and sound was garbage, but we would just watch them over and over and have our brains melt when we thought we knew he was doing, but to see it, broke all our brains.
One TOOL song to rule them all. Absolutely astounding to this day. The last 100 seconds or so are mindmelting. Danny Carey is the best argument I know for the theory that aliens are already among us.🤘
Danny is great. One of the most musical drummers out there. In terms of raw speed and crazy memorization of short polyrhythms, there’s certainly other metal and prog drummers out there pushing those boundaries. But in terms of creating great sounding songs with interesting time signatures and not overplaying the song, he’s definitely up there in the GOAT discussion.
Yes well said. I think Carter Beauford is up there too. Damon Che of Don Caballero can be extremely creative and awesome. Josh Freese comes to mind as well.
So glad you did this video, I know the audio is not great, but if you know the song you can still appreciate the absolute talent displayed here. I’ve seen this one many times, always blown away.
100% yes vote on the studio version of the grudge. Also on every Tool song. Your Black Sabbath reactions are awesome. I’ll definitely be along for a Tool ride (that’s what she said…)
The Grudge is one of my single favourite Tool tracks. The drumming is stunning and the whole track is awesome. So great to see this and to hear you talking about looking further into it. Love your videos.

I've seen footage of him making a mistake. Charlotte, North Carolina 1-26-16, he made a massive mistake on Vicarious. It was so glaring that Maynard said, "What the fuck is going on?!" Danny dropped out for half a measure and slid back into time.
I seen this in Melbourne in 2002. Absolutely mind blowing. This dude is a natural heavyweight. 6’5/6’6 probably 115kgs dry. I’d say he hits harder than most drummers, absolute powerhouse and creative and precise as fuck!
Me and my partner went to see Tool in Stockholm this year in june. I've been a fan since late 90's. I got my head blown away. This man is a genious. Now liked and subscribed to your channel. Request in the future: Thin Lizzy. Cheers from Sweden.
I was also there, row 12 right in front of the stage. We (me and my wife) saw them in Stockholm the year before as well but didnt have as good tickets as this year. This show was spectalular, i was almost numb and a bit dizzy when we went back to the hotel. ❤
Andrew luckily for us our good friend Jon Kew has done another incredible cover of this Song. You may remember Jon from your reaction to his cover of Rosetta Stoned. Jon's cover of The Grudge Features incredible quality footage and Audio and mind blowing Talent.
whoever didn't see them live may not believe that Chocolate Chip Trip could be the most epic performance they know from TOOL. i listened Fear Inoculum hundreds of times and never ever thought that track could be the most memorable thing from the concert.. Danny at drums is like Ali in boxing or Bolt in running !!
My husband says this song is the most Tool sounding Tool song; I can't decide. But this song is still immaculate live today. I've seen them 7 times in the last 4 years and this one has been on the set list more than not. An absolute banger. Also, Invincible is a masterpiece.
This is not 100% perfect by any means, but I'm pretty sure I have The Grudge more accurately transcribed than Drumeo (free sheet music link in the video description): ua-cam.com/video/5Y0OMglQ9wk/v-deo.html If anyone ends up watching it and finding errors, please let me know! I want the sheet music to be as accurate as possible. :-)
It just blows me away to hear a sixty two year old guy say " if I am not in shape and warmed up, this super physical, ultra complex fourteen minute marathon beat storm of a song, played with a power that will make your eyes bleed... It sorta give me cramps..." I would like to be able to say that when I am sixty two!
Great Job Mr Rooney! I have recently discovered your channel, and am always excited to watch your vids- SUBSCRIBED. Love Danny Carey. I would also like to suggest another great modern rock drummer, but one with a much different style - JP Gaster from Clutch. The video of him playing the song “Hot Bottom Feeder” by the Meinl cymbal folks is a great display of his groove. I think that you would greatly appreciate it. Keep the great vids coming and thank you!
From my humble analysis, it is not a swiss army triplet in the purest sense, because it is a beat in 5 that goes Left - Flam - Right - Flam - Left, then played again starting with the right, so the whole thing is in 10. And it starts on a flam, so it's slightly shifted. But it's like a swiss army triplet that comes back to it's starting hand :)
Is that the slickest ever snare disengagement at 5:50 on your video clock? You can see him move his left knee out about 5 seconds before to prepare for it! Tasty....
There's new enhanced version of this here, where the sound is much better. They're also many other songs included from this live ua-cam.com/video/Lawu_5p8Kg4/v-deo.htmlsi=cKP2smUbS8BpEZLD
It's a Swiss Triplet but he's adding doubles and triplets after the Flam. I'm not sure what the drum sheets say. He purposely changes it up at different shows.
By the way, this is a remastered edition of the video you use: ua-cam.com/video/Lawu_5p8Kg4/v-deo.htmlsi=p7yeyUZogySPvayh The guy who made it tracked down the original concert, found a better recording of the sound, layered it in, and AI enhanced the video quality, he did an awesome job!!!
The Grudge is possibly/probably my favourite Tool song. Of course I am biased but I would argue with anybody to show me a better drummer. Of course, 'better' and 'best' when it comes to drumming is subjective. But I have never seen anyone do what Danny does. Chops, Independence, you name it...I think Danny is way above everybody else! Just my opinion, of course! :)
You need to listen to the actual studio audio. This is one of the greatest songs ever written and one of the greatest vocal and drumming performances ever. Rumor has it this may have been Edvard Munch’s inspiration for his most famous painting. That may or may not be true.😜
Hi Andrew, can you react to The Smile (Tom Skinner)... his Playing is so niceeee! Song Suggestions: Thin Thing, Read the Room and the Opposite Thank you, for your Content...
John kew has an amazing playthrough of this song (and many other tool songs). Highly worth a reaction, especially because his sound quality is much better than this video.
New Zealand coulda told Rings of Power “NO. STOPPIT. LEAVE”. Just sayin…🤷🏼♂️. Y’all are partially responsible 😂. That would be funny, Amazon claiming the people of New Zealand won’t stop heckling at the film shoots 😂.
Hey, by any chance are you cool with reacting to non-english/US songs? I really am interested in you reacting to my country's bands such as Dewa19, Killing Me Inside (now known as KILMS), Cokelat, Netral (now known as NTRL), Peterpan (now known as NOAH), and many more. They all have interesting drum arrangements in their songs. Cheers, I really love your stuffs. I'm from Indonesia, by the way.
Hello) have you heard Confessor? old dinosaurs) here's the song (Condemned (1991)) ua-cam.com/video/EseW9DYGLTE/v-deo.html here is a drums for the same song ua-cam.com/video/K60MElawxOw/v-deo.html here is the full album of this madness) ua-cam.com/video/BpwJ43GLq7w/v-deo.html
Watched many of your reactions. Are you actually a percussionist? I find it hard to believe bud. Let's see you playing please. Prove me wrong. I'll happily eat my words. But, yeah, you're not what you profress that you are.
I remember back in the day, the ONLY way to watch these videos, was on Danny's website. He had them posted and I remember being in AWE of them, in this tiny little QuickTime window on my PC. Funny how I did the same thing. Lol.
So frustrating learning tool songs on the drums back in early 2000s and not having easy access to live footage of what he was 100% playing
I've heard this song 1000 times, but seeing him play that outro, was phenomenal. Powerhouse, absolute powerhouse.
Agree
My favorite outro ever
Legend has it that danny carey made a deal with the devil no one quite sure what the exact terms of the deal were, but the devil got drum lessons
One TOOL song to rule them all. Absolutely astounding to this day. The last 100 seconds or so are mindmelting. Danny Carey is the best argument I know for the theory that aliens are already among us.🤘

The Grudge is one of my single favourite Tool tracks. The drumming is stunning and the whole track is awesome. So great to see this and to hear you talking about looking further into it. Love your videos.

One of the best "end of song, outro" ever written.. guy is an absolute monster on the kit
100% Bad a**
There are very few complete high quality drum cam videos with Danny Carey! Love him
That's was when he used that Paiste alloy kit, what a killer sounding kit.
That ending man, so legendary. Always exciting to hear that, marvelous song. Danny Carey rules!!!
Best finish ever man
@@billpimentel-vm6cu thats not what she said. soz, not soz.
Criminal that there aren't better recordings of this guy
The “that’s what she said” will NEVER get old 😂😂😂😂
I seen Danny Carey live in concert and he never makes a mistake. That sounds perfect. ❤. I don’t even know how he plays that stuff. It’s insane.
I've seen footage of him making a mistake. Charlotte, North Carolina 1-26-16, he made a massive mistake on Vicarious. It was so glaring that Maynard said, "What the fuck is going on?!" Danny dropped out for half a measure and slid back into time.
Ah, the tour where he was playing the kit with shells made from melted-down broken cymbals. Sounded immense but his tech hated him for it!
Specifically, melted down Paiste 2002's!
Well worth the watch
Thanks for the reaction/analysis.
Glad you enjoyed it 🤘
Triad from the "AI enhanced" drum cam is really something to behold!
I could watch Danny Carey all freaking day
I wish there was more drumcam on danny. Hes my favorite drummer ever, probably musician ever.
I seen this in Melbourne in 2002. Absolutely mind blowing. This dude is a natural heavyweight. 6’5/6’6 probably 115kgs dry. I’d say he hits harder than most drummers, absolute powerhouse and creative and precise as fuck!
And follows a body building routine basically. Crazy !
I was there too man! Rod Laver Arena. The first time i had ever seen Tool- was completely blown away!
Me and my partner went to see Tool in Stockholm this year in june. I've been a fan since late 90's. I got my head blown away. This man is a genious. Now liked and subscribed to your channel. Request in the future: Thin Lizzy. Cheers from Sweden.

I’ve been following tool and Danny Carey for ages but didn’t know he was Maria Carey’s brother! Jeez !

Yes Tool!!! Andrew you have made my day my friend!!!
2002 to 2009 Danny was a totally different animal.
whoever didn't see them live may not believe that Chocolate Chip Trip could be the most epic performance they know from TOOL.
i listened Fear Inoculum hundreds of times and never ever thought that track could be the most memorable thing from the concert..
Danny at drums is like Ali in boxing or Bolt in running !!
Please please PPLLLEEEAAAASSE REACT TO TRIAD DRUM CAM WITH DANNY ITS DO PHENOMENAL!!!!!!!
All the concerts I have seen with Tool, they play this number. Love it. What a beast.
My husband says this song is the most Tool sounding Tool song; I can't decide. But this song is still immaculate live today. I've seen them 7 times in the last 4 years and this one has been on the set list more than not. An absolute banger. Also, Invincible is a masterpiece.
No one brings the thunder like Danny does in this track.
Just came home from seeing Danny with Beat. It was amazing.
Hey please do the new Danny video indiclipne
Ooooh sounds good!

There's a young lady "Brooke C" who does a very good drum cover of The Grudge... Check out her covers if you haven't yet...
One of my favorite tool songs
Hes the GOAT. Check out Triad from the same video, please!!
Thanks Andrew, excellent.
This is better than Pneuma.
7:00 Agreed, so quick is sounds like flanging.
Heh, love the *_Point Break_* (1991 original, _not_ the crap 2015 remake, duh) clip at the beginning 😁!
Classic!
🇳🇿🤘

The way Danny beats his drums would make you think he doesn't like them.
You should see the Danny Carey Brann Dailor guitar world drum off video! Absolutely amazing 😮
Amazing!
Is that the slickest ever snare disengagement at 5:50 on your video clock? You can see him move his left knee out about 5 seconds before to prepare for it! Tasty....
Nice catch! Yeah, he makes it all look so effortless. What a liar... 😉
when the raw drums sound like that with a 22 year old potato camera mic sounds that insane.... man...
Triad from the same recording is amazing give it a watch
So great ❤
Ooo my god🤯
There's new enhanced version of this here, where the sound is much better. They're also many other songs included from this live ua-cam.com/video/Lawu_5p8Kg4/v-deo.htmlsi=cKP2smUbS8BpEZLD

God with two sticks
🙌
I've studied the transcriptions of Danny Carey's work... it gives me a massive head ache. For the life of me, I can't do it.😢
🤘🏻🌀
By the way, this is a remastered edition of the video you use:

I would like to issue an arrest warrant for Danny Carey for murdering every track going on 5 decades. Absolute goat!
DC is the man!!!!
Anyone else check out the end first?
Sweet hall and Oates shirt haha
Would love to see the analysis video of this song in combination with drumeo.
The Grudge is possibly/probably my favourite Tool song. Of course I am biased but I would argue with anybody to show me a better drummer. Danny Carey plays the drums like they owe him money… 🥁💵
You need to listen to the actual studio audio. This is one of the greatest songs ever written and one of the greatest vocal and drumming performances ever. Rumor has it this may have been Edvard Munch’s inspiration for his most famous painting. That may or may not be true.😜
When you realize The Scream is actually a picture of a Golden Labrador, your life changes forever man!
5:26 did anyone else realize they were holding their breath?
TOOL TRIAD DRUM CAM 2002 NEXT PLEASE
I'd be interested in hearing your take on the drums from this song called MOVE by Hiromi Uehara
This was a proper erec ... reaction video!
Lost for words. 7:53 Danny hits the hi-hat pedal by accident and looks at his leg as if to say ..."what are you doing? You're on auto pilot.."
🤘👽🤘
An absolute beast! Goated! Have you reacted to his live pneuma video?
hey PLEASE do Misery Signals - The Shallows
React to tool TEMPEST pls ..
Look closely, yes yes yes

He IS the danger. He's the one who clicks.
Can't touch this!

I`m tired just watching him.
Doing this a hundred times per year for 3 hours aged 60 something...
You think you’re talented…and then you watch this.
Why do we in europe look at you as a banana republic ?
Watched many of your reactions. Are you actually a percussionist? I find it hard to believe bud. Let's see you playing please. Prove me wrong. I'll happily eat my words. But, yeah, you're not what you profress that you are.
Show me you have a brain
Why is everyone a teacher at something when they can't play for shit.
Do you have any videos of you playing drums???
