TOOL doesn't publish their lyrics like most other bands for the same reason you just said. Maynard's voice is just another instrument. At the same time it is pretty cool to know the lyrics. For alot of their songs I had the lyrics all wrong for decades. Only in the last ten years have I seen these lyric videos.
While I agree that Tool is music to be experienced and felt as a whole, the lyrics are the spices to this complex stew. "This body holding me reminds me of my own mortality. Embrace this moment remember: We are Eternal - all this pain is an Illusion." That's just A+ lyricism. It invokes acute emotion that lights up the brain like Christmas. 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌💯❤
I found Tool through this song when I was 15 staying in hospital with my brother who had cancer. I don't think there is a more perfectly appropriate I could have found at that time.
Man this song... earlier this year I had a lot of patients die, a lot of really demanding patients and nothing was working. The only thing that got me through was to just "celebrate this chance to be alive and breathing", walking through the snow, the mud and then the new grass. It was my Go button when getting ready to work and my reset button when I got off. What a band
I started listening to tool whenever I needed some rest and felt unsafe or had anxiety. The music guided me into some kind of safe state of mind that allowed me to fall asleep. The comfort this music gives me is incredible.
I was a kid when I went to my first tool show. Now i people with their 5 year old kids at shows. I'm jealous you are discovering tool for the first time
I've watched a lot of people react to Tool, and I feel you're really getting the band more than anyone else I've watched. Well done. You've realized they're a multi-layer band, and it takes time to peel the layers back and explore each one. Keep it up, and don't feel rushed to do that digging. I've been a Tool fan for 13 years, and I've only recently finished the entire discography. I haven't even started digging into the lyrics yet.
Here's some of my favorite Tool: The Pot, Eulogy, Right in Two, Stinkfist, 46 and 2, Vicarious, Aenima... go all the way down the rabbit hole man 🤘🤘🤘 also you should do more Alice in Chains like Would?, Man in the box, Rooster, Nutshell, It ain't like that, Bleed the freak, Down in a hole, No excuses, Brother... love the vids man!
I like how you listen to tool the same way some people take DMT. Headphones and a big comfy blanket. 10,000 days part 1 and 2...most emotional Tool song/s, by far.
I like your philosophy of how to listen to the music. It also makes sense as the lyrics are often written last, in response to what the other guys have done. Each member brings their own intricate contribution to the result, and it's counter productive to focus deeply on any particular strand as they feed each other. Hell I don't even know the exact lyrics to half the songs on the album Lateralus, even after listening to it 100 times, yet it's still awesome.
Anyone who has ever done LSD may agree; Tool's music is the sound of the profound insight and understanding of the entire universe and your connection to all things within it that comes to you while tripping , and inevetibaly fades and slips from your grasp as the drug wares off. Goddamn, I ALWAYS forget my pen!
@@MaddSpazz2000 Always, my friend. When the physicists discover the Unified Field Theory, the so called theory of everything, I'm convinced TOOL's music will be a crucial component lol

Long video today guys! Hope you guys enjoy - trying to keep it as real as possible, here’s my genuine first reaction, no bullshit!🙏🏻 #DownTheRabbitHole🐰
I have to give it to you, I think your take on the band is spot on. By far my favorite band since the beginning. No matter how many times you listen to their music, it always takes you on new journey.
I honestly appreciate your raw reaction, whether it appeals to me or not. It is your experience of them, not mine. I know my stance on TOOL, they are an amazing complex band that gives me goosebumps every time I listen to them. You are correct (in my opinion) when you say that TOOL can be categorized as "Euphoric Metal", I really like that description of them personally. I have always said they are in there own genre, but have never found the words to describe them. It's awesome to see someone who has never heard their music, listen to them and give their own opinion of their experience, and its really awesome when that person or persons really likes and appreciates what they heard. Kudos!
I’ve been a fan for years. Dissecting the lyrics came years after. It added a whole 4th dimension. Mate, I have to say I really enjoyed watching this, and your input even now adds more to the experience for me. Just seeing it through different eyes. Your summary at the end was spot on. Over and out astrophysicist.
Maynards voice is used like an instrument so you don't need the lyrics in front of you to experience the music. The lyrics are the icing on the cake. Check out something live off of Salival. Highly recommend "Pushit". These guys are so good that their live performances sound like studio versions.
Great point about Maynard making simple points in a strange way. When you listen to Rosetta Stoned no energy drinks! Maybe a joint. Thanks for the video man!
Have to say that I’ve become addicted to watching Tool reaction videos in the past year. At the age of 51, I’ve been a lifelong fan since the bands inception. Listening to their progression and maturity over 3 decades has been one of lifes greatest journey’s. Now, I get to watch new listener’s go on the same ride! Really dig the reactions and with each one, you have embraced the random more.... keep up the great work in Ireland!
Thanks for doing some Tool, I’m really enjoying (vicariously) watching you discover them, loving your videos. I find it takes many listens (sometimes years) to fully appreciate what they are doing. Rosetta Stoned is one example, it is so dense it took me ages to appreciate but it also has the most euphoric moment in the entire Tool catalogue (IMO). Once again thanks, and keep going down the rabbit hole.
This song is actually about how lucky we are who lives, how beautiful life is..but for some reason everytime i listen to this song , instead of getting feel that life is beautiful and shit, im getting negative effect, i feel empty, i feel alone,im thinking about how pointless and pathetic everything is.
I found Tool through this song when I was 15 staying at hospital with my brother who had cancer at the time. It was like the universes way of saying everything will be ok, and here's the proof.
Nice to see you enjoying the Tool-journey. Back in 1992 I saw this band for the first time at a big festival, the opened, nobody knew them, our mouths fell open, kinda same experience you're having the last year, so nice to see! thanks for the videos!
I agree with what your saying about not reading into the lyrics too much. In fact tool never released any lyric videos or any lyrics at all to stop people from focusing too much on them. On the other hand it's interesting to try and understand what the song means because it means something different to everybody
Give their official videos a try too.. The new album will be 80+min with no song led than 10 min and one over 20min Also lost keys/rosetta stoned is a must listen for WTF reaction 10,000 days/wings for Maria for emotional reaction
I love your video!! You have a good sense of what tool is about just by dissecting the song, etc. They are definitely one of the most all around talented bands out there! I'm looking forward to seeing your other videos!!
Let me tell you something. I thought I understood the lyrics 20 years ago when I first got into them. But through the years and experience and maturity I've come to so many new understandings of many of their songs. They keep you digging deeper every time. Speaking of digging deeper. You gotta start reacting to Aenima soon. That album is so flipping amazing too.
Vicarious, The Pot, Stinkfist from TOOL 🤘🏻 Those are must listens ontop of this 🥃 Glad you enjoyed this song, I love the mixture into Parabola from Parabol, it’s just NASTY!!
I consider Tool "Cerebral Metal". Every song has double, or even multiple, meanings. You have to listen to every song at least 4 times. Once for each member's parts. It is always an adventure that Tool takes you on while listening! Love your reactions. Probably one of the top reaction channels I watch!!
The religion of TOOL sung by Reverend Maynard.. For us all to take life all in. For what it is. Stay grounded an fight. But never loose true meaning. Life is a journey we all are traveling. Feeling divine in our existence.. Being ALIVE through this Experience!
I've gone on this lil TOOL journey with you. I've been listening to them for 20years and I must say you've grasped the importance of just listening and feeling this music brilliantly. This will serve you very well through the rest of your journey. Enjoy.
@@ffinkral No, Aenima is your favorite album but that doesn't make it the best, it's not as developed musically or conceptually, and the characteristic that make a tool album what it is were attempted in Aenima but only matured and achieved fully on Lateralus and 10000
Tool are definitely a “thinking man’s” band. They always take you on a journey, and so often bring you into a trance-like state. Euphoric metal is a really good description of their music…
@@jongrogan2168 hahaha it's my favorite tool song from 10000 days but the lyrics bonkers. hopefully he can vibe with it. Maybe 10000 days/ wings for Marie or vicarious first would be better lol
I'd call it existential/euphoric metal. It breaks you down almost to the point of having an existential crisis then brings you back up and reassures you that everything with be ok.
I remember going to my first Tool concert, and being late because it was so fucking packed all throughout the city, and walking in right before Parabol transitioned into Parabola and I was fucking stoked, was a crazy atmosphere I walked into
That is an incredibly wise approach. I've waited out every album since Aenima, and hell, it was hard to even find accurate transcriptions back then. These kids these days have it too easy hahah
Randy Diviney That is how i got into Tool. I was in fifth grade in 95 and i would sneak down to my step brothers room in the basement when i was supposed to be sleeping. We would listen to a lyric (Undertow) and each write down what they thought it said. Then rewind (yes- rewind) and listen and debate until we had what we agreed were the lyrics to the song.
next one has to be Schism, my favourite Tool song! Lateralus is probably the album that I have listened more times in my life. And I totally agree what you said about lyrics. The most important think is to feel the music first.
Great song one of my faves for sure! Something about Maynard's voice is so intoxicating. For the most part I've always been drawn not to only a good sound but well thought out lyrics as well. Tool is a great choice for anyone that is the same
tool has a song called "undertow" (title-track from their 1993 release called ... um ... "undertow") in it there are the repeated lyrics: eu - phor - i - a - eu - phor - i - a - eu - phor - i - a - eu - phor - i - a just thought that might make it feel lil' synchronous for you. that you call TOOL "euphoric metal" also, i like to think of the song "undertow"as having a strong left/right-foot walking type of beat. that at times runs, stumbles, falls, brushes off, gets up, and starts walking again. try it yourself! good job, man! very perceptive reaction videos, great body/facial language communicated, too! lol can tell when you're impatient, or trying to juggle a bunch of instrumentation and/or rhythms
Really been enjoying your Tool reactions, Drew. One last recommendation, this one the first song I ever heard from them back when my brother got me into them. Check out "Sober" off Undertow. Also curious to hear your comparison to their later stuff you've been hearing versus the early stuff. Definitely an interesting progression.
I know you probably can’t react to their actual videos due to copyright law,but I would encourage you to check out their official video for these songs. The video for this is crazy.
TOOL THE POT IS EPIC IN THE FACT IT HAS THE BEST BASS LINE I HAVE EVER HEARD, AND EVEN THOUGH THE NEW ALBUM ONLY HAS 8 SONGS EACH SONG IS A LEAST 10 MIN LONG, WITH INTROS IN BETWEEN MAKING IT AT LEAST 80 MIN LONG
Just because you don't pay close attention to the lyrics doesn't mean that you miss them. Maynard said himself that the music is what is importaint, and the lyrics are more to guide the emotions along. When I got Lateralus I didn't have access to the lyrics and didn't think that much about them, but now that I know exactly what he was singing, it all fits with what I thought the songs were about. I think all TOOL songs are about the same thing, that place where no man made rules apply, the mirror, deep nature
I would argue this would be labeled more as a existential metal album. The first of three that i know of. All tool albums. Lstaralus, 10,000 days and fear inn. All existential and unique to this concept.
I would love to see your reactions to a few songs and bands I like, and you may enjoy. Nine Inch Nails - Hurt, or Were In This Together Ministry - Twilight zone Devin Townsend Project - Kingdom (emgtv session), Julaar, or Deadhead (live at the albert hall) Strapping Young Lad - Love?, Detox, or Aftermath Mudvayne - Dig, Death Blooms, or World So Cold Cradle of Filth - Her Ghost in the Fog, Nymphetamine, or Cruelty Baught thee Orchids Type O Negative - Black #1, I Dont Wanna Be Me, or My Girlfriends Girlfriend ...that should be all for now!
I absolutely love Tool. Another progressive bands that's extremely tight with incredible musicianship and lyrical content would be Porcupine Tree. They also paint a visceral sound scape of music that incorporates many different genres and time changes. I would suggest Anesthetize, Fear of a blank planet, Arriving somewhere but not here, Trains. If these songs are too long as Anesthetize is over 17 minutes long, you can try The Sound of Muzak or Darkest Eyes.
Regarding TOOL's lyrics, Maynard seems to not want the listener to really know what HIS meaning is, but rather for the words to mean something to YOU, connecting with the art on a more personal level. In this way, each listener has a unique connection to what the music says to us.
If you're gonna do pure reactions, I'd advise doing the rest of the tracks on whichever album from which you've done the most, then sit down, cut away all distractions, and listen to the album all the way through. Do this with each album. Tool fashion their albums to be taken in total as a single listening experience.
"I think [the new album] is short" - It's 75 minutes of songs (65 not counting the title track) plus a 4 minute Drum solo thing plus 7.5 minutes of ambient segues. The last song, 7empest, is the longest at almost 16 minutes. :)
Drew...your interpretation is your own. It is a mental journey, but the music is so good its hard to get to the lyrics, for a while. You don’t need to watch a video to get it, I can tell you are under to spell of Tool. Fun, right!!!
I don't think I've ever got Tool lyrics in one listen. To add to the weirdness, every time I listen to it, it means something different depending on what I have going on in my life. Not of other bands I've run into makes music that transforms meaning as your perspective shifts. Hope you continue to enjoy their work.
Ok drew... YOU KNOW WHY I'M HERE! But i won't pester you today. Not a big tool fan myself so I'll just give you some random recipe for some blueberry waffles 2 cups all-purpose flour * 1 teaspoon kosher salt 4 teaspoons baking powder 1 tablespoon white sugar 1 1/2 cups milk 2 eggs 6 tablespoons butter, melted 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon almond extract 10 ounces blueberries Optional: Waffle Sauce or maple syrup for serving Preheat the waffle iron. Stir together the flour, salt, baking powder, and sugar. Add the milk and eggs and stir to combine. Add the melted butter, vanilla, and almond extract. Stir to combine. Stir in the blueberries and then pour onto the hot waffle iron. Cook until lightly browned. Serve with waffle sauce or with a drizzle of maple syrup. Enjoy!
Drew, I gotta know what you think of Maynard’s voice (lead singer of Tool). IMO he has an amazing voice to compliment this amazing band. I agree with you that Danny Carey is insanely good. FYI, listen to Rosetta Stoned on their 10,000 Days album
Drew: “This has been a long ass intro”
TOOL: “Hold my cylindrical vessel encapsulating liquid euphoria”
Mike Ramirez 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You mean Maynard's cylindrical vessel encapsulating liquid euphoria?
Now that is something to "Hold"
what a great comment!
Congratulations Mike Ramirez!! You just won the internet!! I laughed too hard at this. lol...

Keep the tool army hooked, we're always mad for tool reaction videos 😎
I remember going to my first Tool concert, and being late because it was so fucking packed all throughout the city, and walking in right before Parabol transitioned into Parabola and I was fucking stoked, was a crazy atmosphere I walked into
You dissect the lyrics when you have been waiting for 6 or 13 years for new music.... not on a first listen...lol
@@alexfrank6534 Lmao I am no stranger to the rewind, for Lateralus was the first one I never owned on cassette. Nostalgia...
@@alexfrank6534I wore out 4, count 'em, 4 copies of Aenima on cassette
Yeah you're all in on Tool you have that look in your eyes when you listen to them. We all do
Brandon Hinrichs This was my exact reaction.
next one has to be Schism, my favourite Tool song! Lateralus is probably the album that I have listened more times in my life. And I totally agree what you said about lyrics. The most important think is to feel the music first.
7 tracks but not a single track is less than 10 minutes long
Brandon Hinrichs Almost every track, Chocolate Chip Trip is 4:48
Great song one of my faves for sure! Something about Maynard's voice is so intoxicating. For the most part I've always been drawn not to only a good sound but well thought out lyrics as well. Tool is a great choice for anyone that is the same
tool has a song called "undertow" (title-track from their 1993 release called ... um ... "undertow")
in it there are the repeated lyrics: eu - phor - i - a - eu - phor - i - a - eu - phor - i - a - eu - phor - i - a
just thought that might make it feel lil' synchronous for you. that you call TOOL "euphoric metal"
also, i like to think of the song "undertow"as having a strong left/right-foot walking type of beat.
that at times runs, stumbles, falls, brushes off, gets up, and starts walking again. try it yourself!
good job, man! very perceptive reaction videos, great body/facial language communicated, too!
lol can tell when you're impatient, or trying to juggle a bunch of instrumentation and/or rhythms
Great job! Funny, that's exactly how I told a friend how to start listening to Tool for the first time. Soak it in then disect.
right in two ... awesome built up
Try Stinkfist, The Patient, The Grudge, Rosetta Stoned, or Jambi by Tool man. You can’t go wrong with any of it.
You’re so good at figuring out Tool!
I think you are really really getting to love TOOL,I know you listened to this a while ago , but loving the reviews Tool an amazing experience
Nine Inch Nails - Hurt, or Were In This Together
Ministry - Twilight zone
Devin Townsend Project - Kingdom (emgtv session), Julaar, or Deadhead (live at the albert hall)
Strapping Young Lad - Love?, Detox, or Aftermath
Mudvayne - Dig, Death Blooms, or World So Cold
Cradle of Filth - Her Ghost in the Fog, Nymphetamine, or Cruelty Baught thee Orchids
Type O Negative - Black #1, I Dont Wanna Be Me, or My Girlfriends Girlfriend
...that should be all for now!
You need Third Eye. Life changing experience.
Danny's drumming on Third Eye is transcendent
Salival version
LOL "The Blanket's Off Baby!
"
I said on the last video mate... Euphoric Metal is amazing mate 😂 🤘🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Chris Woods 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
You have to react to Tool-The Grudge. Its off the Lateralus album and has amazing writing and performances.
Just enjoy the journey, its up to your own interpretation. Cant wait for the new album..
Jambi next!
The Patient is lowkey the best track on Lateralus imo, definitely give it a listen.
Anyone know where that lyric video is available? Looks like youtube has taken it down
Tool - Jambi
Tool - Vicarious
Tool - The Pot
A Perfect Circle - The Outsider
A Perfect Circle - Brena
Puscifer - Momma Sed
Right in two.
✊✊✊
"It's only about 6 or 7 tracks---a nice condensed album"
Oh, sure. A nicely condensed 86 min 38 sec. 😆 Well worth it though!
the real parabola video is strange as heck
love this song, that was my first Tool song i heard:) 46&2, Sober, Right in two - this are must be tracks.
No one can experience Tool until they are ready to experience Tool
Ok drew... YOU KNOW WHY I'M HERE! But i won't pester you today. Not a big tool fan myself so I'll just give you some random recipe for some blueberry waffles
2 cups all-purpose flour *
1 teaspoon kosher salt
4 teaspoons baking powder
1 tablespoon white sugar
1 1/2 cups milk
2 eggs
6 tablespoons butter, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
10 ounces blueberries
Optional: Waffle Sauce or maple syrup for serving
Preheat the waffle iron.
Enjoy!
Best comment I’ve ever received 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@DrewFortune97 it'll be delicious!!!
This is such a fun serious to follow. Keep that open mind Drew
🙏🏻
The Grudge and The Pot has Maynard's best screams
Imo his best screams are included in Undertow and Opiate albums
Europhoric Metal is pretty accurate to what Tool is. Nicely done. 🤘
Drew, I gotta know what you think of Maynard’s voice (lead singer of Tool). IMO he has an amazing voice to compliment this amazing band. I agree with you that Danny Carey is insanely good.
FYI, listen to Rosetta Stoned on their 10,000 Days album
Yes!!!!!!!! Love these songs
Excellent reaction!
🙌🏻❤️
