I love this idea! You have put scythe on my radar for sure. Already own Legendborn. I loved project hail mary. I just bought Mistborn, my first Brandon Sanderson 🎉
I’ve been following you for a while so I pretty much knew every book you’d recommend but just wanna say even tho you probably have preferences, I appreciate how much you dabble in different genres and find something great in all of them
Randomly picked up Scythe the other day after you mentioned it, as a bridge between another series I am reading and devoured it in about a day and a half. I haven't read a book that made time disappear so quickly in forever. Great recommendation.
I actually think Name of the Wind is another great getting into fantasy book, although I might put it in a different category of like "getting BACK into fantasy" as its size could be daunting to newer readers. For me it was the first fantasy book I read as an adult after not really reading at all for like 5 years and it changed me
I just started the Mistborn trilogy because of you and really like it so far. First time in years that i read again a series this size. Thanks for the recommendation.
Because of the Lakers shirt, want to share a recommendation for basketball fans who also love great storytelling: There's Always This Year by Hanif Abdurraqib. It's incredible, one of my top books of 2024 - I think you'd really like it!
I have Mistborn and Stormlight archives on my shelf I recently acquired. I will read them in the new year when it's cold outside and don't feel like going out.😮
So glad you got around to Era 2. I've never understood why people don't like them. I definitely prefer Era 2 to Era 1, but I do need to reread Era 1. Era 2 is just so fun and Wayne is top 3 cosmere characters for me Also, if you like Chain-Gang All-Stars and the concept of a forced gritty TV show you should definitely check out Dungeon Crawler Carl. I'm sure you've heard of it at this point, but it's been my favorite series of this year Love this video concept/idea! I've got a few people in my life in each category! I've moved 4 books up on my TBR cause of this so I can see if they'd like them for Christmas! Thanks!
*DMX Voice* "Dog, you my mans and them," for even mentioning SG-1. It's always overlooked. Also, definitely agree with Suneater. I also never knew Harry Potter (my favorite series ever) fell into Dark Academia. Will of the Many was one of my fav reads last year as well. I'm definitely going to check out the other two you mentioned.
What’s up! Just subscribed, really enjoy your videos. I finished Wheel of Time in the spring which introduced me to Sanderson. Started with Mistborn and finished Hero of Ages last night and went right into Way of Kings. Just curious, have you read Wheel of Time? Thoughts?
I’ve been recommending River God by Wilbur Smith to everyone lately! It’s historical fiction/fantasy and it’s part of a series but, every book in that series so far has been a 5 star read for me. Also, some of my favorite books are on your gift guide😊 and I have Legendborn on my upcoming to read list. I can’t wait!
2 recs from me: “The Obstacle is the Way” by Ryan Holiday (self help) “Children of Time” by Adrian Tchaikovsky (sci-fi) Starting a buddy read with a friend for “Project Hail Mary”!
Thanks for ur videos bro, awesome content as usual. I wanted to ask, do u like progression fantasy like Dungeon Crawler Carl? Or he who fights with monsters, would love to know ur input about them
@Smitty1423 I'm new to ur channel so I'm not sure if u already do this, but would be awesome if u say like "hey, today I'm starting X book", so ur followers can read along with u, kinda like a book club
Don't know if you'e mentioned it before, but have you read any of The Expanse series? I'm on book 5 currently, and it has been an absolute blast if you're looking for a new Sci Fi series!
Feel like Ready Player One would make a great gift especially for older people and gamers. A very specific rec is Illuminatus! Trilogy. It's highly possible you quickly find it stupid and annoying. But it's a very interesting book to me. Jumps between narration styles and character viewpoints sometimes mid-paragraph. Detective story, conspiracies, psychedelic SFF
Hey just got into reading and I’m loving it but I was wondering if they more you read do you get better with imagination because I find it hard to imagine what a character or building looks like while reading
I’ve been about 40% thru Project Hail Mary for about 3 months now. It’s...OK. I mean, he’s met someone, but still nothing is really happening that excites me. I’ll get back into it soon I’m certain. Video Gamer that wants to read more: Dungeon Crawler Carl. Can’t go wrong here, I’ve binged the first 2 books in 2 weeks and will probably finish the third in a few days lol. Wants a Con: The Gentleman Bastard Wants an epic story but not in the fantasy genre: Lonesome Dove. It’s probably the best book I’ve red this year that includes all of Sanderson’s catalog.
@@Smitty1423 Dungeon Crawler Carl is just a TON of fun. You’ve probably heard this, but the audiobooks are AMAZING. I read 75% of the first book (and LOVED it, don’t get me wrong), but then switched to the audiobook cause I wanted to listen to it while also walking. Jef Hays may be the best narrator in the business.
@@IamCree Up to this point, that's my experience as well. Not that I can't understand why Science stuff works for some people....but I wouldn't expect THIS many people.Maybe I'm just having issues relating with anyone in the book.
Just out of curiosity did you read The Faithfull and the Fallen and The Bound and the Broken. If yes what do you think of it and are they gonna be mentioned in a vid soon. If not do you plan on reading them?
I read Mistborn Era 1 and soon i want to get into era 2. But i don‘t know when to read secret history. Are there any good reading orders ? (i want to get into other cosmere books too)
One Dark Window was really good, still have two twisted crowns on list, currently reading Carrie, yes i haven't read Carrie before🫣 Have you read Perfume by Patrick Süskind? The story follows Jean-Baptiste Grenouille, an unloved orphan in 18th-century France who is born with an exceptional sense of smell, capable of distinguishing a vast range of scents in the world around him. Grenouille becomes a perfumer but later becomes involved in murder when he encounters a young girl with an unsurpassed wondrous scent.
Era 2 is a breath a fresh air. Sometimes it's nice to take a break from doorstopper books and complicated hard magic systems and have a fun adventure story. By book 4, it took does turn back in a hard Cosmere read, but by then, breaktime's over. Can't wait for Mistborn Era 3: the Ghostbloods.
Ahh perfect a gift guide....for myself
