Been disconnected from what's been going on within the fiction space for the last few years (cough... Decade and a half), and my GOD there are so many cool aounding SERIES out there, not just single books. My TBR is going to be the Towel of Babel by year end...
I'm in the middle of The Expanse series on book 7, and The Age of Madness trilogy (second trilogy to the First Law). Just finished The Children of Time series by Tchaikovsky, it's absolutely amazing! I've ordered Empire of Silence based off your recommendations. Your videos are phenomenal by the way, you are such a chill and connectable person and really knowledgeable about what you're talking about. Thanks for making videos, I am going to watch them all
Sun Eater is definitely on my radar, but I have to finish some series before I start a new one. Currently I am trying to catch up with Stormlight, The Bound and the Broken, Dresden, Expeditionary Force, Black Company, Chorus of Dragons. And I have so many I want to start, Green Bone, First Law, Dandelion Dynasty, Three Body Problem.
Currently reading Way of Kings and am almost done (200 pg left)! I’m loving it and want to move onto the next but also really wanna start Suneater series 😅
As a library reader who's waiting on books I feel the pain of having multiple series open. The one series I'm hyped on is The Poppy War by RF Kuang (who also wrote Babel). Book 1 was so good for me and I'm on hold for book 2.
I just finished my second read of the Scythe series and it’s so good. It was one of the series that got me back into reading. I’m currently in the middle of reading the Mistborn series (book 2), Red Rising (book 5), Death Tax (Book 4) and Forth Wing (Book 3 soon). I like to finish a series once I start it. I tend to read a book or two in the series and hop over to a standalone before jumping back to the series. I recommend looking at Ready Player One (and Two). Such great Sci-Fi books. I've read the Dune series three times now, and as much as I loved the first book, I will have to warn, the ongoing series itself doesn't feel to equal to the first book. Heretics and Chapterhouse in particular felt like a slog. Not that there aren’t great moments, given the era it was written in. As for series: Stormlight & Mistborn Era 3: The Ghostbloods (whenever that will be), Song of Ice of Fire, Kingkiller Chronicles, Gentleman Bastards. Just started Suneater. I am rereading the Realm of the Elderlings. And finishing off the Dark Tower series books 5-7 (just finished rereading 1-4). I'll probably continue the Dresden Files--finished Deadbeat a few weeks back.
In the middle of : Harry Potter x J.K. Rowling - As someone who never got into the movies, I 100000000% recommend & will be continuing ACOTAR x Sarah J. Maas- New to the Mass-inverse , but I am really enjoying it ( giving a bit of hunger games to start), but unsure on the recommendation just yet The Magnolia Parks Universe x Jessa Hastings - I’m 50/50 on the recommendation . I liked The Great Undoing of Daisy Haites(2nd book) better than Magnolia’s storyline in the 1st , but I will be continuing Hoops Series by Kennedy Ryan - recommend & will be continuing Twisted Love x Ana Huang -worth trying , but don’t know if I’d recommend; I’ll be continuing(I think) The Hate U Give duology- Concrete Rose was phenomenal , so I recommend that one 1000000% , but I don’t know if I’ll read the other book. Heartstopper x Alice Oseman - 1000% recommend and will be finishing. I also loved Fourth Wing and I have Iron Flame, but haven’t started it yet. I’ve heard so many say it felt rushed. If that’s the case and it’s not enjoyable, I am just forever grateful for Fourth Wing pushing me deeper into Fantasy.
Your video on the Demon in White got me into rhe Sun eater series and i finished it a few days ago, thank you so much for the recommendation it's one of the best series ive read
I want to put something on your radar called The Dandelion Dynasty. It's a 4 book Fantasy Silkpunk epic. Silkpunk is an aesthetic similar to Steampunk but centered around East Asian art and philosophy. HIGHLY recommend, definitely put it in the top 3 epic series for me along with Stormlight and Sun Eater
@@Z3ROMyth Set in a secondary fantasy world in which the heroes are engineers, not magicians, the emergence of a new nation after the fall of a corrupt empire. Itmelds East Asian and Classical philosophies and traditions, spans multiple generations and continents, and builds a new mythology from the actions of its heroes.
I am enjoying Path of the Ranger by Pedro Urvi. This is a magical- fantasy- epic series following this group known as the Snow Panthers (the Royal Eagles) into all sorts of impossible dangerous missions of importance! Each book in my opinion is a page turner which is easy to read. Starting on book 15 of 20, I have come to love all the main characters and hate the thought of this series coming to an end soon.
in the middle of a song of ice n fire, bout 2 finish clash of kings yessir , finna do the stormlight books next hyped asf fr but also thinkin of doin a flintlock fantasy like powder mage also
I thought about making 2025 a year to get caught up on the "big series", specially Wheel of Time, Malazan, ASoIaF, and now Sun Eater. Not sure if I'd get burnt out though.
Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman - Based on some of the things you’ve mentioned -characters, compulsive reads, you should check this series out. The first book bumped Project Hail Mary down a notch in my list of favorites. The synopsis sounds corny, but it pulls people in quickly, and a few weeks later you’ll have burned through the whole thing. Officially it’s ’litrpg’ but has fantasy and sci-fi ish elements. I’d encourage you to give it a shot. It’s 6 of 10 books with #7 by December), released since 2020 as an online series, then indie paperback on Amazon, was recently picked up by Ace for mass market publication this year, and also announced that has been picked up for video production in collaboration with Seth Macfarlane. Thanks for your videos, I’ve largely found myself agreeing with your comments about many books, and have added several to my TBR list based on your suggestions.
The Gentleman Bastards series really popped off for me with The Lies of Locke Lamora. Have you read and Ryan Cahill? That is a series I really am tempted to start.
Not a fan of long series myself, but love your enthusiasm. I will not be continuing Stormlight Archive after having read the first four books. Just too long and repetitive for me.
I am a Canes fan, and your Rangers jersey is giving me trauma. 😂 Great video! Do you take a lot of notes when you read? I end up dropping series if I wait too long bc I can't remember what happened. Children of Blood and Bone, for example, I read and enjoyed but don't remember well at all. As to others on your list - absolutely continue with Scythe! Thunderhead is even better. And the Green Bone saga is amazing! I have Vicious but I haven't read it yet. And I need to give Red Rising another try. I couldn't get into the writing.
@@Smitty1423 yesss. Darrow’s aura as the “Reaper” is just next level for me. Also gotta appreciate how you are so quick to respond to every single comment that’s awesome.
With so many options out there, I hesitate to pick up a book if the series isn’t finished. I think my biggest “fear” is simply forgetting what happened previously or losing that connection that made me love the series to begin with. How do you “jump back in”? Do you read the previous book again or watch YT recap videos?
Hey Smitty... You are missing a great series from Bethany Jacobs...the 1st book is These Burning Stars (chef's kiss...Six is a bad mother- shut your mouth!) and the 2nd book due out October 2024 is titled On Vicious Worlds. I will drop everything to read this series!!!!! This author is new and is exceptional!!!!! The characters are folks of color at least in my mind they are 😉. Check it out!
I’m currently in the middle of reading ACOTAR, Stormlight Archive, Dune, and Divergent. And I have so many more book series on my tbr! Also, I’m technically in the middle of Game of Thrones as well. But I’ve put a pause on that because George R. R. Martin seems intent on never finishing the series. 🙄
Yes I have embarked on the Sarah J Maas journey and am reading ACOTAR. I’m so excited because it’s 3 different series and they go together . I love a universe.
Just FYI Harrow is like a 13/10 on the confusing scale. Where I found the first one generally opaque, I never found my footing, book 2 is out of control with its story. And the “twist” of the book I called immediately. Didn’t continue with book 3.
Off topic but im currently reading before they are hanged (second book of the first law trilogy) and I saw it on your shelf. Was wondering what are ur thought on the trilogy and on the series as a whole. Also I have a suggestion of a series that you might like. Its called the realm of the elderlings. Its basically fantasy version of sun eater. Its a first person slow burner where we see the growth of the main character throughout his journey. Beware though its really slow and the author takes her time building up the world and her characters.
I’m still trying to get through Game Of Thrones. I have 10 chapters left. I honestly don’t think he will finish writing the series though. People have been waiting like 11 plus years for him to finish The Winds of Winter.
This makes me want to die. I could never do this. If I start a series, I am finishing it before I touch any other book. (exceptions for series like Le Guinn's hainish cycle or Discworld which aren't really a series and all stand alone) This is also why I wait until the series is finished before I read it (exception being stormlight archive because I didn't have this rule back when I started it. It is because of name of the wind and game of thrones that I do)
I’m in the middle of The Wandering Inn, The Green Bone Saga, Stormlight Archive, and Wax and Wayne and am trying to hold off on starting the fifth season, suneater, and wheel of time series until I wrap up with the others. Don’t know if I can though
What?!??! GRRM writing blows everyone else you listed out of the water! My man so excited for you if you are character driven. Sanderson’s works are so shallow one of GRRM characters blow his stuff out of the water
Some great series on that list. For me: *Fantasy* Dandelion Dynasty / Ken Liu - 1 book left Discworld City Watch / Terry Pratchett - 7 books left Malazan Book of the Fallen / Steven Erikson (re-read) - 9 books left Memory Sorrow & Thorn / Tad Williams - 2 books left Realm of the Elderlings / Robin Hobb - 2 books left Second Apocalypse / R Scott Bakker (re-read) - 3 books left Wars of Light & Shadow / Janny Wurts - 9 books left Wheel of Time / Robert Jordan - 13 books left *Historical-Fiction* The Last Kingdom / Bernard Cornwell - 10 books left *Sci-Fi* Sun Eater / Christopher Ruocchio - Only read 1 book *Western* Lonesome Dove / Larry McMurtry - 3 book left
Nice man, you sold me on rage of dragons will check that out. Good call getting back to greenbone when you can. I liked jade city, but by the end of jade legacy i realized its one of my all time fav series. maybe #2 just behind first law
Love your videos. New fan here. I am rereading STORMLIGHT in anticipation of the new book (in audiobook format this time which has been interesting). I’m also currently (slowly) reading all of Agatha Christie’s books in order. Next up for me is Malazan and Suneater. Bloodsworn is high up my list.
I'm currently in the middle of...14 series?! I didn't think I had a problem, but maybe I do.. The letter grade is my priority to finish/continue the series not necessarily how much I enjoyed the books I've read (like Red Rising. One of my favorite series but I like how book three wrapped up so I'm not in a hurry) A+: The Hierarchy: can't wait for the 2nd book A+: Dungeon Crawler Carl: On book 5 and it's just as good if not better than the previous 4. As soon as I start reading the next one though, I'm hooked B+: Bloodsworn Saga: Waiting for book 3. I LOVED Shadow, but Hunger was just ok to me so it dropped down to the B's B: Harry Potter: on book 4 but not started yet B: The Bill Hodges Series. Most definitely will finish, but not in a hurry C: Red Rising: on book 4 but not started yet. I wish I was more excited but I've heard book 4 is just ok so it's been a year since I finished book 3 and I still haven't started. Read the first 3 in one week. C: The Green Bone Saga: Finished the first and not in a hurry for the next. Didn't capture me, unfortunately C: The Locked Tomb: Read the first book Gideon the Ninth. Really like it, but not sure I crave more of that world than I got so unsure if I'll continue C: Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: on book 5 but haven't started yet (rereading for childhood nostalgia) D+: The Kingkiller Chronicles: I read The Name of the Wind and LOVED it, but not in a hurry to finish because is he ever gonna write book 3? Doubtful lol F: Ender's Saga: Read book 1 but won't continue F: Wayward Pines: Read book one and probably won't continue; it was good but didn't capture me

Thanks for taking the time to write this! Yeah in terms of Dune I’ll just do it when the movies come out
In the middle of :
Harry Potter x J.K. Rowling - As someone who never got into the movies, I 100000000% recommend & will be continuing
ACOTAR x Sarah J. Maas- New to the Mass-inverse , but I am really enjoying it ( giving a bit of hunger games to start), but unsure on the recommendation just yet
The Magnolia Parks Universe x Jessa Hastings - I’m 50/50 on the recommendation . I liked The Great Undoing of Daisy Haites(2nd book) better than Magnolia’s storyline in the 1st , but I will be continuing
Hoops Series by Kennedy Ryan - recommend & will be continuing
Twisted Love x Ana Huang -worth trying , but don’t know if I’d recommend; I’ll be continuing(I think)
The Hate U Give duology- Concrete Rose was phenomenal , so I recommend that one 1000000% , but I don’t know if I’ll read the other book.
Dope! You’ll never run out of books to read haha
Your video on the Demon in White got me into rhe Sun eater series and i finished it a few days ago, thank you so much for the recommendation it's one of the best series ive read
Sun Eater is soooo amazing glad you’re loving it!
Bloodsworn saga is fantastic so far. Fury of the Gods is going to be a 5/5, i’m calling it now
I bet you are right!
I have it on my shelf I need to check it out for sure
What do you like about the series? What is the premise (without spoilers)?
I’ll have to check this out
in the middle of a song of ice n fire, bout 2 finish clash of kings yessir , finna do the stormlight books next hyped asf fr but also thinkin of doin a flintlock fantasy like powder mage also
So dope
You should make a vlog finishing the series you’re in the middle of!
Not a bad idea!
I thought about making 2025 a year to get caught up on the "big series", specially Wheel of Time, Malazan, ASoIaF, and now Sun Eater. Not sure if I'd get burnt out though.
I have faith in you!
I am revved for Gwynne! Can't wait to finish it. Thank you for these videos, good to see what you are reading and also juggling 😂
Haha it’s a lot for sure
Silver under nightfall & court of wanderers is amazingggg i beleive its called the reaper series
I’ll have to look into it!
Yup Gideon and ninth was an interesting concept but ultimately it just doesn't hit. I fell off early in the second book
Ahh makes sense!
Oh wow. A thriller rec.!
My third favorite genre!
@@Smitty1423 Behind fantasy and sci-fi?
Im a great series starter as well. Getting through some now. Sun eater has my attention now
Sun Eater is really insane
@@KingMooCow I’m down to read it for sure it’s been on my list since everyone keeps recommending it to me!
Sun Eater Gang
Gang gang
Good stuff. You gotta get into First Law.
Word!
Have you tried historical fiction? The warlord chronicles books are amazing and have a big fantasy feel to them
I’ll have to look into it!
The Gentleman Bastards series really popped off for me with The Lies of Locke Lamora. Have you read and Ryan Cahill? That is a series I really am tempted to start.
That series and Ryan Cahill’s are on my list for sure
Not a fan of long series myself, but love your enthusiasm. I will not be continuing Stormlight Archive after having read the first four books. Just too long and repetitive for me.
✊🏾✊🏾
Typical Smitty banger 🤞
We here!
😭😭😭 I do sometimes take notes but not often. I don’t remember much in real life but stories I will always remember
I’m currently on book 2 of the red rising series and am absolutely loving it. I haven’t heard much about the second half books though.
Golden Son was incredible! And Morning Star is 🤯
@@Smitty1423 yesss. Darrow’s aura as the “Reaper” is just next level for me. Also gotta appreciate how you are so quick to respond to every single comment that’s awesome.
@@Qspeckles haha I try my best!
I'm in the middle of Mistborn, Stormlight, The Cycle of Galand and Expeditionary Force.
Some incredible ones
With so many options out there, I hesitate to pick up a book if the series isn’t finished. I think my biggest “fear” is simply forgetting what happened previously or losing that connection that made me love the series to begin with. How do you “jump back in”? Do you read the previous book again or watch YT recap videos?
Depending on how long ago I read it but I usually just jump back in because I may not remember much in real life but I remember stories
Thanks for adding this to my list!
I second this! Absolutely love These Burning Stars, favorite book I have read this year!
Nice! And I hope he does finish it lol
@@kevinwalsh9704 ahh interesting!
@@kevinwalsh9704 ahh interesting!
Harrow sucks so bad. I pushed through & finished & it was a complete waste of time.
@@mystikmusings5451 yikes
Nice Rangers jersey at least its not the Islanders. Go Bruins.
Haha right!
I’ll have to check out that series but I dnfed The Blade itself but it was a soft dnf just not the right time for me but will pick it back up for sure
i'm reading one dark window right now an ion think imma read tha second one 🤣
Haha damn that was a great series for me
I can't wait to start Jade City and Red Rising. Just so you know, your taste in books makes up for your horrible taste in hockey teams 😉😋
Hahaha too funny
I’m still trying to get through Game Of Thrones. I have 10 chapters left. I honestly don’t think he will finish writing the series though. People have been waiting like 11 plus years for him to finish The Winds of Winter.
This makes me want to die. I could never do this. If I start a series, I am finishing it before I touch any other book. (exceptions for series like Le Guinn's hainish cycle or Discworld which aren't really a series and all stand alone) This is also why I wait until the series is finished before I read it (exception being stormlight archive because I didn't have this rule back when I started it. It is because of name of the wind and game of thrones that I do)
Haha I know! My way is def not the norm or the right way at all
I’m in the middle of The Wandering Inn, The Green Bone Saga, Stormlight Archive, and Wax and Wayne and am trying to hold off on starting the fifth season, suneater, and wheel of time series until I wrap up with the others. Don’t know if I can though
You’re in the middle of some fire ones for sure
I think I'ma graduate college before finishing the stormlight archive and I'm just starting my third year 😅
Lmaoo this is too funny
you need to start the first law trilogy bro, the series focus on characters
I have 18 books in my TBR 😭
And it grows daily it’s crazy
ASOIAF is not about the throne…the throne is a red herring. lol
@@sheepsdog 😭😭😭
Does Sun Eater get better? I'm about 50% through book one and it's pretty slow. I'm interested but man, the pace is killing me.
Yeah book one is a lot of setup it really takes off in book 2 but you have to get through book 1
Smitty you mean to tell me you have the entire First Law trilogy behind you, but you haven't even started?
Haha I soft dnfed The Blade Itself I’ll get back into it at some point tho!
WHERE IS ROBIN HOBB!!! LOL
Might as well add one more and pick up realm of the eldering. Just saying haha
Haha she’s been on my list to read for awhile
@@Smitty1423 As she should! Loved the vid, best of luck on completing these series.
@@SunshineFC15 thank you!
are you planning on diving into the realm or the elderlings ?!
At some point!
What did you think of Kingdoms of Death? :)
Thought it was incredible…dark but incredible
What?!??! GRRM writing blows everyone else you listed out of the water! My man so excited for you if you are character driven. Sanderson’s works are so shallow one of GRRM characters blow his stuff out of the water
Look forward to going further than comparing the two!
@@Smitty1423 no joke a side character of Martin have more depth than Kaladin.

Nice man, you sold me on rage of dragons will check that out. Good call getting back to greenbone when you can. I liked jade city, but by the end of jade legacy i realized its one of my all time fav series. maybe #2 just behind first law
Ahh can’t wait!
One of my favorite series but I like how book three wrapped up so I'm not in a hurry)
A+: The Hierarchy: can't wait for the 2nd book
A+: Dungeon Crawler Carl: On book 5 and it's just as good if not better than the previous 4. This series is just candy, I love it. I feel like I could always be listening to one and never get bored. It scratches my video game and reading itch at the same time. Had to actively take a break so I could have something easy to go to to get out of a potential reading slump later and it worked
A: The Sun Eater Series: Just started the second book. Without the hype I've heard it'd probably only be a B.
A: Stormlight Archives: Waiting for Wind and Truth. For some reason when I'm not in the series my anticipation for next book isn't very high. As soon as I start reading the next one though, I'm hooked
B+: Bloodsworn Saga: Waiting for book 3. I LOVED Shadow, but Hunger was just ok to me so it dropped down to the B's
B: Harry Potter: on book 4 but not started yet
B: The Bill Hodges Series. Most definitely will finish, but not in a hurry
C: Red Rising: on book 4 but not started yet. I wish I was more excited but I've heard book 4 is just ok so it's been a year since I finished book 3 and I still haven't started. Read the first 3 in one week.
C: The Green Bone Saga: Finished the first and not in a hurry for the next. Didn't capture me, unfortunately
C: The Locked Tomb: Read the first book Gideon the Ninth. Really like it, but not sure I crave more of that world than I got so unsure if I'll continue
C: Star Wars Jedi Apprentice: on book 5 but haven't started yet (rereading for childhood nostalgia)
D+: The Kingkiller Chronicles: I read The Name of the Wind and LOVED it, but not in a hurry to finish because is he ever gonna write book 3? Doubtful lol
F: Ender's Saga: Read book 1 but won't continue
F: Wayward Pines: Read book one and probably won't continue; it was good but didn't capture me
Ahh thanks for ranking them this is gold
