Minor Spoilers for Rhythm of War Adolin forcing Kaladin to go to the bar with him is one of the most emotional moments in Stormlight for me. We all need an Adolin in our lives
A book I just read that was incredible is "Frankenstein". I loved the story and the atmosphere, and the writing style is amazing. If only for the writing style it would've been worth it. Mary Shelly was truly a gifted author. Other books that I really enjoyed this month are "The Woman in White" and "The Moonstone", both by Wilkie Collins.
Sounds like you've been in a good spot with your reading.. I finished Ashes of Man, loved it and am already missing the series... I really want to get stuck into Disquiet Gods, but the release isn't in the size of my previous books in Suneater so I gotta wait a few months before the correct sized book is released.. ugh. Otherwise, I just bought Way of Kings, Darkblade Assassin and will be picking up Lord of the Rings this week, all that shall take up, probably the rest of the year for me haha.
Some re-reading. Got through first three Stormlight. Illuminatus! Trilogy. Finally read Ready Player One after watching the movie 100 times and i loved it! Digital Fortress was okay. Reading Wildwood now along with Long Chills & Case Dough - short detective story by Sanderson. On deck is Yumi, re-reading Rythym of War, and thinking about trying Sun Eater series. Maybe try (again) House of Leaves. it's a hard read for me but i find it fascinating for some reason
Iron Gold, Dark Age and Lightbringer are on deck for me then Rhythm of War. Absolutely hooked on the Red Rising series right now. 10/10, recommend for all
@@Smitty1423 I binged like 200+ pages of Goblet of Fire on my first ever read of it over the weekend and legit had a dream that I was in some twisted version of the Triwizard Tournament that night
Some solid reads ahead for yourself! Hope you like Dark Tower. I read up to book 5 back when I was like 13? I got lost in it's over complication of story. It's one of those stories I do want to get back into as I was really enjoying them when I was younger. I'm about to finish Ashes of Man right now and start Disquiet God's this week. I gotta agree, Kingdoms of Death man, phew. It was intense. Like more than half that book is just raw as hell. Ashes of Man although not as intense has been solid! I'm also reading Hunger of the Gods, I'm only like 4 chapters in or so, I just wrapped up Daughter's War which was a bit of a disappointment for me.
The Hunger of the Gods was almost my favourite book of September... but then I read Kingdoms of Death. I had an epic reading month though. Other highlights were The Tyranny of Faith by Richard Swan, Guns of the Dawn by Adrian Tchaikovsky, Kindred by Octavia E. Butler, and The Ninth Rain by Jen Williams.
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Dark Tower series! My favorite books of the series are book #2 “The Drawing Of The Three” and #3 “The Waste Lands”. It’s such an insane ride, hope you enjoy!
I read divine rivals & butcher n blackbird in august. And I started books in September but not finished. For the first law, the audiobook is top tier..can listen to it on UA-cam. Also I’m on ashes of men and words of radiance but haven’t picked them both back up in like a couple months 😅 not because I don’t like them just was in a slump.
I'm not into horror, but the Shining to me seems more like urban fantasy. Dick Hallorann and Danny are the protagonists. They face supernatural forces (a collective antagonist) and in the style of any other fantasy hero's arc, the hero's triumph but at a cost. I recommend its sequel, Doctor Sleep, starring Danny as an adult. It's very heartwarming and has a plot twist I didn't see coming. I just finished rereading the Dark Tower 1-4. What I like is this series is the backbone of Stephen King's multiverse. IMO, book 3, the Wastelands is the best. I was disappointed with Book 4 and the reread didn't change opinion. I intend to pick Book 5 later this month. Go then, there are other worlds than these!
I started Mistborn Era 2 last night and while a fantasy western doesn’t sound like my thing, I also have blind faith in Brandon Sanderson and so far he has not disappointed 😊
On the fourth book of a song of ice and fire and just bought the most born trilogy hyped to read it just got into reading books didn’t know it could be this fun
I mix heavy/serious reads with lighter ones, because otherwise I would go crazy! You are obviously in a mood for some lighter reads and that is totally fine 😊👍
I fell in to a huge reading slump near the end of August and lasted in to September. I'm re-reading Stormlight Archives and the books are so good that I'm having a hard time getting in to any other book lol, I was going to spread the four books over the next few months, but I will be rushing Oathbringer and Rhythm of War now!
Like i mentioned last video I finished blade itself last month and just finished before they are hanged a day ago and it was amazing. I also agree with another comment regarding the audiobook as its one of the best ones i have seen. I listened to the blade itself and read before they are hanged so maybe that's the way to do it if you are thinking of starting again. The first book though just sets the world and characters so its ok of it seems like a slice of life in a way but trust me it becomes great as it goes on. Goodluck on your October grind and hopefully you have checked out the realm of the elderlings (farseer trilogy being the first 3 books in the series). The author is known as queen of fantasy and is known to have a good connection with the OG authors like George RR martin who all praise her so definitely have a look at it. I don't want to pressure you though so this will probably be the last time i mention it.
September was slow for me as far as reading. Almost finished Rhythm of War. I’ve started Dungeon Crawler Carl, Best Served Cold and Shadow of the Gods. Heck, the only things I started and finished were the newly released GI Joe (Energon Universe) comic trades. Hey, gotta keep up with my childhood. The Blade Itself was difficult for me at first as well......but it’s so good.
I wish you will continue first law it’s kinda like sun eater first book is the weakest though the book itself was excellent but get better with each book the fourth book was spectacular everything was perfect from start to finish the action the tension the povs all great I hope you continue it
I asked you on TikTok live once I finished Morning Star if I should start Mistborn or Sun Eater and you suggested Sun Eater. I devoured Empire of Silence and Howling Dark and just started Demon in White. Happy reading! 🙌
Yo you gotta let me know what you think of Demon in White. One of my favorite books of all time and what I think is one of the best Sci-fi books of all time
@@Smitty1423 I’ve heard raving reviews about this series and that the first book isn’t as good as later books, which I agree. I will for sure continue and finish this series, I’m already 5 chapters into Howling Dark 😊
If you want a really good spooky book that isn't horror I highly recommend Come With Me by Ronald Malfi. Gave me True Detective vibes. One of my favourite books I've read in the last 5 years.
I can see The Blade Itself being a soft-DNF. I bet if you pick it up at the right time you'll like it, and if you're like me, will like the series more as it goes on. My favorite of the trilogy was book 2. If you haven't tried the audiobook for this series I would recommend giving that a try - I'd say it adds to the reading experience.
Hey Smitty! New sub here, really enjoying your channel. Your genuine enthusiasm for reading (which is bit more rare for people in our generation) is truly refreshing. I did want to ask about your trip-I'm considering doing a solo trip to Tokyo also, anything you wish you knew beforehand that you could impart as advice?
That the train system is really easy to follow (use Google maps or Apple Maps) that it is pretty easy to travel throughout Tokyo (don’t need Ubers) In the same vain Shinjuku train station is a maze so be sure to leave for your train early (although trains run pretty frequently)
Just a warning, the Shining is the only book I’ve ever read that had genuinely scared me. Definitely lost a little sleep reading that one, and not just because I couldn’t put it down 😂
My favorite book last month was Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott. BLURB that doesn’t do it any justice “It's a retelling of the Slavic tale of Baba Yaga that explores themes like antisemitism, class prejudice, and identity. The book is about Isaac and Bellatine, estranged siblings who inherit a magical house that walks on chicken legs. The house opens a key to their past, and they discover they descend from Baba Yaga, asinister witch of Russian folklore. “ As a heads up this book gets really sad.
Nice video again bro!! I need your help because you have good taste for books, im finishing the cosmere and idk where to go: Dune, Sun Eater or Red Rising series, what do you suggest? never read a sci-fi but i really want to start
Im probably the only one who had a very hard time finishing The Gunslinger but I didn't like it one bit.. It just felt weird to me? Hope you enjoy it better than I did 😄 I pre-ordered Blood Over Bright Haven after finishing Sword of Kaigen and I can't wait to start on that one!
I'm not sure if you've tried reading manga at all, but if you are open to it, Oyasumi Punpun is one of my favorite. Its portrayal of depression, and other darker themes are amazing. It's one of the greatest, but also its the saddest thing I've ever read, and I think you should give it a try, even if you don't cover it in a video. Also I'll let ChaptGPT give a better explanation than me in the replies.
Oyasumi Punpun is a manga that dives deep into the complexities of growing up, loneliness, and emotional turmoil. It tells the story of Punpun Punyama, a young boy depicted as a simple bird-like figure, but his experiences and emotions are far from simple. What makes Oyasumi Punpun so impactful is its raw portrayal of life's darker sides-family issues, societal expectations, dreams, and relationships-all while Punpun grapples with his evolving sense of self. The way it illustrates mental health and existential themes can resonate with anyone who's ever felt lost or overwhelmed by the chaos of life. The author, Inio Asano, masterfully combines surreal visuals with emotional depth. The minimalistic design of Punpun allows readers to project their own feelings onto him, which is part of what makes this story so immersive and haunting. It’s not a typical coming-of-age story-it’s messy, heart-wrenching, and sometimes, brutally honest. If you're looking for a manga that doesn’t shy away from the complexity of human emotions and life's struggles, Oyasumi Punpun offers an unforgettable and deeply introspective journey.
On empire of silence. Rlly exited to see where it goes but kingdoms of death being darker than dark age hmmmmm. You haven’t read that have u? Exited to see what this series is about
I’m on page 340 of The Blade Itself right now, and it’s only been since page 300ish that I really started to get into it. It was a slow start, and it’s still a little slow, but it’s beginning to build for me now.
Love your content bro. I plan on starting sun eater next year. Surprised to hear that your DNF’d the blade itself. If I remember correctly that starts a little slow and gradually builds up. Have you read recursion? Some that aren’t fans of dark matter love recursion. September was a great month for me, all five star reads. Read Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldrich by PDK, and all seven Foundation books by Asimov. Solid series.
@@Smitty1423 it happens. I dnf’d Canticle for Leibowitz, I’ll try to read that next year. Last argument of kings #3 is probably my one of my 3 favorite books of the year.
If i’m getting into the Cosmere, which sci fi series would you recommend I read in parallel for a palate refresher? Murderbot series or Suneater series?
Reading Slewfoot by Brom this month, I’m interested to see if Lost Gods has anything in common with it. What’s better than puritan hell demons? LOL happy October!!
Ok, sorry for the spam lol! But I started Shadow of the gods and the writing is really good and the story seems interesting? I'm glad there's no POC in it because I'm starting to think these guys can't write poc to save their lives😂 anyway, really compelling but straightforward writing style, love how it builds tension and mystery so far. I need to finish it
As I've mentioned before, The First Law Trilogy is very overrated IMO(overall 3 stars, with book 2 being my least fav)...BUT, I'm currently reading Best Served Cold and I'm loving it, if the second half is as good as the first it will be an easy 5 star read foe me. I read The Shining earlier this year I liked it, but there are better King books...like The Gunslinger. loved books 1-5 of the Dark Tower Series, 6 and 7 I hated (although I am one of people who actually loves the series' ending). Really enjoyed the Evan Winter interview...Great Job!!!
Yesss Legendborn ❤ I gave it 5 stars. I’m reading The Prison Healer rn, I’m still near the beginning but so far so good. Would you say that the Sun Eater and Storm Archive series are beginner friendly? I’m not really a fantasy newbie but I’ve also never read series like those before
Don’t feel bad for not loving The Blade Itself. It is a slow slow book. Maybe it’ll hit another time. I had to read it twice and I liked it better the second time but it’s still not a banger for me. I know I’m the oddball but it is what it is.

Adolin forcing Kaladin to go to the bar with him is one of the most emotional moments in Stormlight for me. We all need an Adolin in our lives
Ahh such a great scene. So many pivotal, emotional scenes in this one for sure
I’ve just finished reading an arc of Fury of the Gods and it was so good.
I can’t wait to get to it!
Im reading Pushkins Buttons by Serena Vitale. Great video!
Haven’t heard of that one will check it out!
Thanks for the recs!
I really can't wait to get back into Suneater been missing it
Some re-reading.
I'm right in the middle of Kingdoms of Death, it IS intense and amazing.
Let me know when you finish!
Iron Gold, Dark Age and Lightbringer are on deck for me then Rhythm of War. Absolutely hooked on the Red Rising series right now. 10/10, recommend for all
Crazy crazy month for you!
Yes
✊🏾
So many bangers read and so many bangers to come!
And someone who has their books bleed into their dreams if they read too late!
Haha yeah I be dreaming the wildest worlds lmao
I really need to get back into Sun Eater haha so jealous you are that far.
Sounds like a fantastic month but yeah that Kingdoms of Death man so insane
I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on The Dark Tower series! My favorite books of the series are book #2 “The Drawing Of The Three” and #3 “The Waste Lands”. It’s such an insane ride, hope you enjoy!
Yes, the Waste Lands is my favorite King novel ever. But it set up certain cliffhangers that were all too easily revolved in Wizard and Glass.
I’ll have to check it out
Will let you know!
I feel you and yeah I’ll retry first law on audio!
Ahh gotcha will let you know what I think!
I started Mistborn Era 2 last night and while a fantasy western doesn’t sound like my thing, I also have blind faith in Brandon Sanderson and so far he has not disappointed 😊
I have the same blind faith lmao
On the fourth book of a song of ice and fire and just bought the most born trilogy hyped to read it just got into reading books didn’t know it could be this fun
Yes reading is such a joy! My favorite hobby!
I mix heavy/serious reads with lighter ones, because otherwise I would go crazy! You are obviously in a mood for some lighter reads and that is totally fine 😊👍
Haha yepp
Glad I found this channel , gonna read some of ur recommendations
Appreciate you!
Scythe is an awesome trilogy! enjoy!
Loved the first book excited to continue the series
I fell in to a huge reading slump near the end of August and lasted in to September. I'm re-reading Stormlight Archives and the books are so good that I'm having a hard time getting in to any other book lol, I was going to spread the four books over the next few months, but I will be rushing Oathbringer and Rhythm of War now!
I feel you! Stormlight is just so top tier!
Anne Macaffery has some great sci Fi/fantasy that are pretty short(~300pgs)
And I def need some short recs!
@@Smitty1423 id recommend the white dragon or dragonflight!
Thanks for taking the time to write this! I will give it another try!
Read the Mistborn trilogy and Way of Kings. Reading Words of Radiance now. I found Sanderson through you!
Wow that is so dope!
I'm still reading Chain-Gang All-Stars by Nana Kwame Adjei-Brenyah 💯.
Loved that story so much
lets goooo Lost gods was great. But Slewfoot was honestly better. please read that thats perfect for October
I’ll have to see if I can make room!
I’ll definitely try to get back to The Blade Itself at some point!
I read 10 books and dnf’d one that I’m scared to say what it is. 😂 I’m glad you enjoyed Legendborn though!!
I wish you will continue first law it’s kinda like sun eater first book is the weakest though the book itself was excellent but get better with each book the fourth book was spectacular everything was perfect from start to finish the action the tension the povs all great I hope you continue it
I def will give it another chance
I have the shining this month on my list as well. Git it from library
One of my favorite books of all time and what I think is one of the best Sci-fi books of all time
17:30 that happened to me when I read the Shining 😹. I’m not a huge fan of the book but It gave me nightmares.
Oh no lmao
I just finished Empire of Silence last month! 😀
How did you like it and are you going to continue the series?
@@Smitty1423 I’ve heard raving reviews about this series and that the first book isn’t as good as later books, which I agree. I will for sure continue and finish this series, I’m already 5 chapters into Howling Dark 😊
If you want a really good spooky book that isn't horror I highly recommend Come With Me by Ronald Malfi. Gave me True Detective vibes. One of my favourite books I've read in the last 5 years.
I have never read sun eater but I got the special edition of empire of silence so I'm excited to start
Dark tower is amazing!!!
Leggo
I can see The Blade Itself being a soft-DNF. I bet if you pick it up at the right time you'll like it, and if you're like me, will like the series more as it goes on. My favorite of the trilogy was book 2. If you haven't tried the audiobook for this series I would recommend giving that a try - I'd say it adds to the reading experience.
That is what I think too! It just wasn't the right time but the audiobook rec is a good one
That the train system is really easy to follow (use Google maps or Apple Maps) that it is pretty easy to travel throughout Tokyo (don’t need Ubers)
In the same vain Shinjuku train station is a maze so be sure to leave for your train early (although trains run pretty frequently)
@@Smitty1423 ty!!
I recommended Shadow of the Gods!! I'm going to hope I was one of the person who influenced you...
Haha already read that and Hunger of the Gods got Fury soon
Just a warning, the Shining is the only book I’ve ever read that had genuinely scared me. Definitely lost a little sleep reading that one, and not just because I couldn’t put it down 😂
Lmao ah man this isn’t looking good for me
My favorite book last month was Thistlefoot by GennaRose Nethercott. “
As a heads up this book gets really sad.
Nice video again bro!! I need your help because you have good taste for books, im finishing the cosmere and idk where to go: Dune, Sun Eater or Red Rising series, what do you suggest? never read a sci-fi but i really want to start
I would say Sun Eater!
Best one there suneater though easiest one to read is red rising both are great suit yourself
I'm about 400 pages into Hunger of the Gods and it's been incredible so far! Want to at least start Stormlight this year.
This story is soooo good
I'm not sure if you've tried reading manga at all, but if you are open to it, Oyasumi Punpun is one of my favorite.
Thank you for the rec!
Hi kids that's the guy who only picks bangers to read! No misses makes me jealous 😂
Haha crazy if true
Not many books past month. Name of the wind and day Zero. Enjoyed them both tho
Amazing!
I love your recommendations! I wanted to ask how did you find your book club? I am looking for one myself 😁
@@sofiadelolmo8050 I run it! Haha it’s in my bio
On empire of silence. Rlly exited to see where it goes but kingdoms of death being darker than dark age hmmmmm. You haven’t read that have u? Exited to see what this series is about
Not yet! Hope you enjoy the series tho!
@@Smitty1423 it’s really good so far. The prose is magnetic
I’m on page 340 of The Blade Itself right now, and it’s only been since page 300ish that I really started to get into it. It was a slow start, and it’s still a little slow, but it’s beginning to build for me now.
Thanks for letting me know!
hey smitty! big fan here. if you want a creepy book for this month try “pen pal” by Dathan Auerbach. it’s pretty short as well.
Yepp I actually loved Recursion! And I’ll pick back up The Blade Itself at some point
@@Smitty1423 it happens. I dnf’d Canticle for Leibowitz, I’ll try to read that next year. Last argument of kings #3 is probably my one of my 3 favorite books of the year.
The algorithm loves u. Glad to be pn your sub listi will reqd legendborn one day.
Ah so dope let’s gooo
If i’m getting into the Cosmere, which sci fi series would you recommend I read in parallel for a palate refresher? Murderbot series or Suneater series?
I would say Suneater
Reading Slewfoot by Brom this month, I’m interested to see if Lost Gods has anything in common with it. What’s better than puritan hell demons? LOL happy October!!
Ok, sorry for the spam lol! But I started Shadow of the gods and the writing is really good and the story seems interesting? I'm glad there's no POC in it because I'm starting to think these guys can't write poc to save their lives😂 anyway, really compelling but straightforward writing style, love how it builds tension and mystery so far. I need to finish it
Let me know what you think when you finish!
Thank you! And also thanks for those tidbits there
Yesss Legendborn ❤ I gave it 5 stars. I’m reading The Prison Healer rn, I’m still near the beginning but so far so good. Would you say that the Sun Eater and Storm Archive series are beginner friendly? I’m not really a fantasy newbie but I’ve also never read series like those before
I wouldn't say beginner friendly. Try Mistborn first!
@@Smitty1423thank you 🙏
Did you or are you going to preorder the special numbered edition/signed for Wind and Truth?
I did not but thinking about it!
im currently reading The Well of Ascension im not sure if i should read Hero of Ages next or The Way Of Kings what do you think? help me out 😂
I would go right to Hero of Ages!
Don’t feel bad for not loving The Blade Itself. It is a slow slow book. Maybe it’ll hit another time. I had to read it twice and I liked it better the second time but it’s still not a banger for me. I know I’m the oddball but it is what it is.
Haha word yeah maybe I’ll give it another try
I’m in the middle of Oathbringer. And I want to start the Sun Eater series soon, but idk when!!! 😭😭😭
Haha it will be there!
I read Edgedancer and loved it! Have you done the Knights Radiant quiz? I found out i'd be an Edgedancer. I'm Currently reading 11.22.63 and it's such a page turner.
I still need to take the quiz!
