If they would just go back to 2D close-up style from the side for the combats it would be so much better than those last games. A huge charm from heroes 1-3 came from actually seeing the creatures and having them so distinct from each other. With realistic 3d design from above it's lost.
Heroes 3 was the longest experience for most of us. But Heroes 2 is super sweet. Wish they remaster them some day, with new castles and units. And it's music...

one thing is for sure, music was the best in all of them, it felt so good to listen that sometimes I just turned on the game to listen to music. Did like the music in Heroes 4 the most.
Over the years I came to the conclusion, that HoMM5 vis the best game, not only in the series, but of all time ;-) It is pretty much Heroes 3 again, but it fixes most of what is/was wrong with 3. 1. Factions are much more balanced. 2. Factions and creatures are more unique. Every creature has multiple special abilities, as well as factions having unique skill-trees and skills. 3. Way better skill system, with way more balanced skills. Sure there still are better and worse skills and perks, but its not such as gap as like between Earth magic and eagle Eye in H3. Also more balnced magic schools. Better balance between might&magic. Pure might builds are way more viable in HoMM5 than in HoMM3. As a result there is also a way better balnce between might&magic and none (or at least less extreme) of these ridicolously OP cheese strats/builds. 4. Other interesting stuff, like Caravans, alternate Upgrades, etc. With 5.5 installed it has pretty much perfected the Heroes 3 gameplay formula and all that could be done to improve would be better graphics, more content and possibly a better UI.
It's amazing how they struck gold first time around, really. First two games have all the hallmarks we grew to love in HoMM3. It just got refined so much. Timeless art style helped solidify it as an all time classic. I would argue apart from a few interesting additions in a couple of later games they all fell flat in comparison anyway.
2 was a better game, but 3 had more content and a sort of its own unique atmosphere, permeating the entire game, so I perfectly understand people who prefer it. 4, for all its problems, also had its own atmosphere, even though its problems outweighed it. I dislike 5 and onward not because of their design decisions, but because they lack that unique feeling.
@@amoqueca you say that like that is an assumed negative thing. Stop doing that. Not every game need to have all things balanced. Some games, like this one, only have their charm added to by it.
Heroes Chronicles specifically Warriors of the Wastes and Masters of the Elements were my introduction to the series. They still remain a mainstay favorite after all these years. The experience as Tarnum was just mindblowing as a kid. Heroes IV had some cool concepts and Heroes V is definitely the second best installment in the franchise.
@@Wolfnacht I prefer graphics of 5 part over 3, they don't look like greenscreen fire or cheap costumes. Creatures have more varietes too, easily distinguishable

like the fact that 3 can be played in the background , the music and hero units of 4 and the town screens of 5. i think a great game can be made in the middle point
Ubisoft really messed things up with this licence. In my opinion, the only good games are "Heroes of Might And Magic" (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). I played homm from 4 onwards (including 3HD) and preferred 5 and 7.
I'm gonna be that guy, in HoMM 2: The Succession Wars the music from the expansion is used instead of the original game, so, in fact, both clips are from The Price of Loyalty.
I have played all series of HoMM and never M&M series, maybe some day I will give a try one. All HOMM series were excellent. All have em proc and cons. H3 was just brilliant for the time has come and here is putting a lot of credit to developing the rest versions. Some great ideas, some bad choices but still all of them are cool to play. The most playing time belongs to h3, the best soundtrack to h4, my favourite is h5, and h6 is the most diffident by the rest. All are great and I played them from time to time all of them
I've played some of the might and magic games. I bought all of them, but couldn't get into the first 3 or 4. They were text based, and it was basically like playing dnd if i recall correctly. 5 onward are fun though. 8 is my personal favorite, but I love the homm games better.
Started playing with HoMM2, played all the following numbered titles (and chronicles). For a hardcore competitive play HoMM3 is the way to go, for the story base HoMM4 and the chronicles, for refined mechanics HoMM5(.5 as the unmodded game is just a bit broken). HoMM4 can also be interesting mechanic-wise as every creature has its actual peculiarities, not just different stats, and it actually plays as a HEROES of might and magic: going around with a party of 7 heroes steamrolling everything is crazy good IMHO. HoMM6 is an attempt to casualize the game, which failed spectacularly (also always online and game breaking bugs that the developers didn't bother to fix). HoMM7 is just bad.
If you want to play a game that is closer to H5 but on H3 engine try out Advanced Classes Mod (on ERA platform). Your secondary skills can be leveled up to level 5 (opposed to just 3 from vanilla game) but in order to reach levels 4 and then 5 you need to specialize. If you pick generic good skills you'll end up with a mix of warrior, mage and adventure that will max out at expert skill. If you pick every magic skill in the game (all 4 schools, wisdom, int, mystic, sorcery) you'll be able to reach grandmaster (lv 5) rank in them AND you'll receive "class" perks similar to the ultimate skills from heroes 5 (those that required extensive specialization). Weaker skills have been boosted significantly too. Warriors get critical strike chance in combat, mages get extra cast per turn and resist pierce, adventurers get even more movepoints and boost growth in their castles.
Played 3, 4 and 5 extensively. All 3 have a special place in my hearth. While I enjoy 4 the least (the hero changes were a miss imo). It was actually the first Heroes game I played and so I still love it. Then as everyone else I heard about the glory of the 3rd game, went back to check it out and. Yes it was crazy good. But when 5 came out it felt like a giant leap in terms of graphic. Some might begrudge the change in setting, but as I was too young to understand it. I didn't mind at all. I just loved the new cinematics and 3D graphics. Well idk what the hell happened after, but it felt like every heroes game after 5 got worse not better somehow. Even in the most basic aspect that are graphics.
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 - 3 - 4 and also the good old; Might and Magic 6 - 7 - 8 series (The Mandate of Heaven - For Blood and Honor - Day of the Destroyer) Both game series going on in the same time periods and sharing a story, one being a Turn Based Strategy while the other a Turn Based, Open World, FPS.. All were amazing, after that point they gradually went down reaaaal fast.. New games after that point entirely lost their spirit.. they were not Heroes games anymore. Only 1 thing captured Heroes Spirit after that point and that was Paul Anthony Romero's and his team's music.. but even that was not enough to save those games
@@troller8680 Exactly what I was thinking, I think 3D ruined it too. Civilization series chosen a very wise path with developing technology, and didn't lose its roots. Disciples and Heroes however, unfortunately failed on that. I am sure 5th game had its good points too, but I just couldn't endure. Away from its great soundtrack couldn't immerse myself in Might and Magic Universe and storyline unfortunately.
@@demran I can understand why you haven't been able to enjoy the game, but for me it was good. Last game that was objectively done good. After the 5th, Ubisoft ruined it for sure with their involvement in the franchise.

I started to play with the first game and I liked it but my real love of the series was started with the second third and fourth game. Basically I played almost all the major games and there is some in this video which is not familiar to me so basically I just skipped these. I would mention one heroes game which was made by capybara games might & magic : Clash of heroes. That game is close to the heroes series and the music what they used in there also familiar but the mechanics are very different. Other than this it is nice to see this serie lived and evolved a lot and possible in the future we will see more kind of games in it. When I saw the first game as a young child I imagined the series will get a lot of sequels and I am finally was right. I would not say there is outright bad or good games in the series because each of it have added it's charm, characters mechanics, great musics and interesting additions. That is understandable they tried to go for the 3d because many game series tried to evolve for that path simply because the market demanded it. To this day there are a lot of games which tries to catch the nostalgia factor and whole not all succeed but some did it very well.
After Hero 3, it feels like it takes too much time to wait and watch the characters repeat actions over and over again, the game is slow, so 2D is still better than 3D, fast, simple, easy to see. , 2D should be more beautiful and sharper, that's all, my opinion, thank you
HOMM is a rare example where visually the series peaked early. Aesthetically HOMM2 looks the best, followed by HOMM3. After that the visuals gradually get worse imo.
I played 2-5, and is currently playing the campaigns for 3 again. I had no idea Heroes 7 was even a thing! Will play the campaigns for 5-7, in due time.
H7 is pretty good. Not as good as 5 (and very similar), but pretty damn good. And I really like some parts of it, like hero progression and the back attacks in combat
1 and 2 are the best for me. Heroes 3 has more dinamics and options but still i rather 1 and 2. I played Heroes V and its good but there are some things that i didnt like it. The game should keep the 2d navegation but with 3d visuals keeping the art style because the game look like watcraft III...
i find it amusing, that as time passed, they went from HoMM VII back to HoMM III :D There will never be better game in this genre, then the third one!!!
I just don't understand the obligation with turning everything into 3d mud. it looks shit and doesn't serve a purpose other than "muh 3d modelling skills" for devs. homm 3 is the pinnacle of hand drawn textures and sprite animatons. it's objectively gorgeous. why change...
It was ported actually. But then Ubi removed it from the App Store like a decade ago. You have to search for the APK file on the internet now. UPD: It was made for IPads and other big screens, so could be a bit uncomfortable to play on a regular phone

I have played heroes 3-5 and i have to say from what i have seen 4 and especially 3 seem to be the best ones. I'm kind of nostalgic for 5 though somehow.
yes somehow
In this case, I'll say this is more a de-evolution, 2D is much better than 3D for this genre IMHO.
Incredibly sad how downhill this went after 5, still one of the greatest games I've ever played
I played heros 5 in 2012 i was 12 yrs old yesterday i found the CD/DVD man it took so much of my time love the game ❤️❤️❤️
Heroes 2 was peak art style
Heroes 3 was peak art style + gameplay + music
Agree but i would add Heroes 4 was peak soundtracks
If they would just go back to 2D close-up style from the side for the combats it would be so much better than those last games. A huge charm from heroes 1-3 came from actually seeing the creatures and having them so distinct from each other. With realistic 3d design from above it's lost.
2 and 3 are the best I’ve probably played that first map you showed ‘All for One’ a million times in my life 😂
Heroes 3 was the longest experience for most of us. But Heroes 2 is super sweet. Wish they remaster them some day, with new castles and units. And it's music...
5 is just perfect. By far the best music and you have 3 dimensions and the best castles views
I'm glad I started with Heroes 3 as a kid. Accompanied with Might and Magic 7. Still play heroes 3 gold (with HD mod and resize mod) today.
You should get the Horn of the Abyss update. It is the current version being played online right now and has the most up-to-date features and balances maintained by the community itself. Oh and it's free.
@@chrisl9934 I have played it once, will see to get it again. I prefer playing either hotseat or against AI - The game can get annoying when people are as good as you online. There's only a hand full of ways to overpower another player. Mass Town portal for example is a game killer. Fun against AI though.
@@josephvanwyk2088 There's an online ladder now where players compete based on some map templates and elo ranking so things are actually quite fair. You can easily search for videos on it here in UA-cam. There are also streamers who stream their online games live.
horn of the abyss is most important
I watched my dad play heroes 3 so much, he learned me how to play it and I sometimes play it for fun
Heroes of might and magic is truly one of the games of all times 👁🗨
I am still a child of HOMM 2 & 3 =)
Heroes of Might and Magic is just magic! Whole series!
Don't forget king's bounty! (1990)
Wow, I had no idea there was a GBC version..
Heros 5 is my favorite but i have a ton of nastolga for 6 because that was the game i most remember playing growing up i loved those campaigns
Homm3 is the only one I really liked, but in return, I liked it so much that I'm still playing it over 20 years later. :) The VCMI guys have done an awesome job reimplementing the game as open source, allowing it to run on new systems like Android in full HD with original game data.
I remember playing the first three as a kid but loving the second the most. If anyone can find a free version online somewhere I need to play them again
Heroes3.. still playing in 2023. Perfect game with a lot of memories
Hi what pc would I have to buy to play my old games on today.
@@craig8357 Linux PC
I never understood how in the world they screwed up heroes 6 and 7, it had FANTASTIC art and concepts.
2 is so much more charming than 3, as to graphics and general feel. But 3 has some dynamics that I miss in 2, such as the ability to have creatures delay taking action while on the battle map. The other games, meh.
Please try Homm3: Succession Wars, you'll thank me later :D
@@MyNigellus Great mod, but, unfortunately, I have a sense that they have stopped developing it, and it still has no campaigns and AI is just dumb. Hope it will continue though!
Heroes 4 is just fantastic
one thing is for sure, music was the best in all of them, it felt so good to listen that sometimes I just turned on the game to listen to music. Did like the music in Heroes 4 the most.
Still playin Heroes V Tribes of the East (the only version I've known) to this day with my friend.
Over the years I came to the conclusion, that HoMM5 vis the best game, not only in the series, but of all time ;-)
It is pretty much Heroes 3 again, but it fixes most of what is/was wrong with 3.
Actually We have Hota for H3 and the Factory faction is also coming this year so... H3 is the best of all HOMM
Heroes 2 for graphics; Heroes 3 for nostalgia and Heroes 5 for the best overall balance for me
It's amazing how they struck gold first time around, really.
I dislike 5 and onward not because of their design decisions, but because they lack that unique feeling.
come on heroes 2 was unbalanced as hell.
@@amoqueca you say that like that is an assumed negative thing. Stop doing that. Not every game need to have all things balanced. Some games, like this one, only have their charm added to by it.
@@amoqueca Different factions peak at different stages of the game. It's ok.
HOMM 5 is the best. Change my mind.
Guess you never played 3
@@Moshi_Teitoku H5 is faaar more balanced in terms of secondary skills and creatures, but the clunky 3D graphics place it in the second place.
@@Wolfnacht I prefer graphics of 5 part over 3, they don't look like greenscreen fire or cheap costumes. Creatures have more varietes too, easily distinguishable
@@Moshi_Teitoku If we are speaking beyond nostalgia, 5th game was better because it was a build up upon ideas of 3rd game, and quite a good build up, it was a perfect sequel to the 3rd game idea wise, unlike 4th that has strayed too far.
Whoever recorded this, somehow managed to butcher the audio from all the games. Impressive.
Thanks for the video! I'm feeling so nostalgic now. I remember playing HOMM I or II when I was a child. Is it possible to somehow play HOMM I or II nowadays? What should I do to make it possible? What kind of hardware and software etc. will I need? Thanks in advance for the answer!
I dont know but i played on my pc homm 2 , IT was on dvd and it was complicated to Open the game without an error but i found a way , i Just started the game without DVD then tried to Play multiplayer online but only Open the window for that then back to menu and quit the game and then started the game with DVD and it Opend without an error and playing was possibile so i think its possibile on dvd but i dont know, Hope my advice is a bare minimum help for you
Homm 3 a legend...
I suggest King's Bounty series (2008-2014) to any homam lovers out there!
Hello childhood (1,2, and 3)
Heroes 2 was peak artstyle/music, Heroes 3 was peak gameplay.
If you had of told me as a kid that Heroes III was going to stay the best game in the franchise right into the future I wouldn’t have believed you. Sad I thought the future held so much promise with these games.
like the fact that 3 can be played in the background , the music and hero units of 4 and the town screens of 5. i think a great game can be made in the middle point
Started with Heroes I. Heroes I elven town scene and music is very beautiful. Only matched by elven town and music in Heroes V
It’s crazy how easy it is to not over complicate the game yet they somehow have never learned from their mistakes
No. This game is as complex as it needs to be. HOMM I, II, III and V are perfect.
Ubisoft really messed things up with this licence. In my opinion, the only good games are "Heroes of Might And Magic" (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7). I played homm from 4 onwards (including 3HD) and preferred 5 and 7.
From better to worse. Heroes 2 and 3 was pure perfecion.
Not even close to perfection
I totally agree with that +1000
@@-_Hatred_-for you maybe Not but for him and me homm 2&3 are pure Perfection
I'm gonna be that guy, in HoMM 2: The Succession Wars the music from the expansion is used instead of the original game, so, in fact, both clips are from The Price of Loyalty.
Heroes 3 need a clever remake like what happened Diablo 2
I have played all series of HoMM and never M&M series, maybe some day I will give a try one. All HOMM series were excellent. All have em proc and cons. H3 was just brilliant for the time has come and here is putting a lot of credit to developing the rest versions. Some great ideas, some bad choices but still all of them are cool to play. The most playing time belongs to h3, the best soundtrack to h4, my favourite is h5, and h6 is the most diffident by the rest. All are great and I played them from time to time all of them
H6 is one of the most balanced HoMM in my opinion, also the most underrated.
(after some small balance patches).
Having a hero that could solo enemy armies in IV was awesome.
0:05 . the first heroes was the best.. i still remeber playing it with my friend.. year 2003-2007. damn.. childhood.
If i told you how many hours i spend playing Heroes 3 with one of my best friends you probably won't believe me .
We all can agree that Heroes 3 is the best one, in every aspect. Heroes 5 is 2nd for sure... the castles in Heroes 5 are amazing!!
It was a devolution after heroes 3
You have great taste !
I did not know there were so many titles except Homm1, 2, 3, 4, and yes 5 too
Head says Heroes III, heart says Heroes II
That's a good way to put it
Heroes of Might and Magic 2 - 3 - 4
and also the good old;
Might and Magic 6 - 7 - 8 series (The Mandate of Heaven - For Blood and Honor - Day of the Destroyer)
Both game series going on in the same time periods and sharing a story, one being a Turn Based Strategy while the other a Turn Based, Open World, FPS..
5 game actually was close to the roots though, you can argue that 3D ruined games, but for what is worth, 5th game was quite good.
Since I was a kid, I have always played Homm 3 and 4, alone or with my brothers. Now I was looking for a new one, should I go for 5, 7 perhaps? Any recommendations?
5 is really cool
6-7 not any way
Never played 7, but can recommend 5 and 6. 6 is more like RPG, but still love this one.
thanks!
Evolution of the Heroes of Might and Magic series has stopped at Heroes III.
People who only ever cared about Homm3 and now play Hota
Homm 3 is up there with games like re4, halo 3, god of war 2, tenkaichi 3, bloodborne. It’s one of those games
heroes 5 best one for fun local mp games
1,2 and 3 all the way. The only thing thing they needed was to add more maps/castles/heroes...everything thing is else they did just ruined them.
There are many community made maps available for 3
heroes 1&2 were my jam. wish i could play again
Heroes V are my favorite (and first) game tbh
I especially like Heroes V's aesthetic
Would be sick if they made a blizzard version with Starcraft, Diablo, Warcraft, etc.
Let’s not forget the card game Might & Magic: Duel of Champions
Heroes 1,2,3 - absolute masterpiece
Heroes 4,5 - excellent games
Heroes 6,7 - complete garbage
I like 6 and 3, and i dont even understand how to appreciate 4.
@@Толег-е1л Campaigns and music are peak in 4. That is the only way I find to appreciate it.
I look at the thumbnail and I cannot help thinking that "evolution" is not the right word for this.
Evolution... then de-evolution :)
2 and 3 are timeless. I don't even want to try the others. They look really pale and unorganised
Heroes of might and magic 2 and 3 are the best
thanks very much. i've resurrected 3 and 5 because of the great mods. 5 attracts me more.
Best Franchise in this Genre ❤️
My favorite part is 2. I also love 1,3,4. I haven't played the fifth one because I don't like its visual style. I'm afraid to even touch the next ...
I just don't understand the obligation with turning everything into 3d mud. it looks shit and doesn't serve a purpose other than "muh 3d modelling skills" for devs. homm 3 is the pinnacle of hand drawn textures and sprite animatons. it's objectively gorgeous. why change...
I love Might & Magic III 😍
How long do we have to wait for 3 to be ported to mobile?
My life would be complete if that ever happens.
It was ported actually. But then Ubi removed it from the App Store like a decade ago. You have to search for the APK file on the internet now.
UPD:
It was made for IPads and other big screens, so could be a bit uncomfortable to play on a regular phone
