Asides from skin colours, how did specific racial traits such as monolids, wide bone structure and lip/nose shapes evolved to fit certain racial categories?
Blurryink No such thing as “racial traits” as races don’t exist in nature, Many people from Asian have similar shaped noses to African people and the vast majority of African people don’t have “thick” lips. There are many non-African people who have full lips. People have been selective in talking about “racial” traits yet no one talks about the shape of an ear or size of the big toe, shape of the brow. What’s racial about the “lips” but not the “eyebrow” or “toe”? Race is simply a socio-political term. The continent of Africa contains the most genetic diversity than all continents combined. People only continue to “see” race because people assign HUGE MEANING to INSIGNIFICANT difference to physical traits. All human beings have the EXACT same alleles (ACGT) and due to environmental pressures, the result is different in the expression of genes. Nothing more and nothing less.
Khosians of Africa look Asian except for darker skin tone and woolly hair. They also have monolids like Asians. There are traits that are more prevalent in one group than another, but it does not mean another "race" of people cannot have that trait though. But obviously the trait that was more beneficial to a particular environment would become more prevalent than a trait that was not beneficial. This is why blacks have tropical limbs, different to whites who have bones structures that benefited them in their cold environment or Asians in their environment. The large nose benefited people in the heat or humidity as thinner nose was beneficial for those in a colder environment. But again although some nose shape (not all) may be due to adaption, it doesn't mean that people from these environments wont have nose traits that may not be best suited for that environment. I've seen un-mixed Africans with thin nose and un-mixed white Caucasians with large nose (that is why nose jobs are popular). A trait may be prevalent in a particular group because it benefited them, but it's not exclusive to that particular group. Some traits are not traits that are absolutely needed though they are beneficial in certain environments. Meaning people with thin nose can survive hot environments like people with large nose can survive cold environment. Now if we talk about skin color, that trait was a life and death matter back in the days because sun screen did not exist for pale skin, so living in hot environment would have been problematic if you stayed out in the heat for too long.
I think it also has to do with the environment. What they ate, the kind of work they did, etc. For example, in Nigeria, the Igbo women usually have broader shoulders than in other tribes because they were predominantly farmers and they needed the added upper strength to farm. So, as time went on, their bone structures evolved. It took generations though.

What you're saying is a small part of it but it only sounds as if were talking about america here which isn't the point. The majority of criticism comes from the percentage of stereotype each group carries. The typical blacks who act like they are gangsters or the overly smart and introverted Asian stereotype. The color only labels their stereotype. If a group of a certain color would act differently then they would be labeled that way too. the only reason why white's are labeled as anything is because they are the majority in this world.
+KorennRachelle I love how you instantly pinpoint whites as being racist, but don't bother to mention that racism can be and is present in every single race. To present it in such a way as to imply racism is a white thing, is racism.
+boy638 Check a world map or a statistical data by countries of IQ. Both would be considered racist. There are two type of racism. One that based on prejudice and complete nonsense, and one that is nothing but scientific data but "offensive" truth so it is considered racism. The fact is that we are not the same, but even mentioning that which is a truth, is considered racist.
“Therefore, skin color is little more than an adaptive trait for living on a rock that orbits the Sun. It may absorb light but it certainly does not reflect character.” Oh dear, hope someone realize the golden message of this video ❤️😍
This video made it seem like humans started out as light-skinned and evolved to have dark skin. It's important to remember that black skin was the default, and all the other shades mutated from our ancestors with dark skin.
+Thomas Drowry you mean PRE-humans, but yeah ok. If that's true, then i wish the video made that clear that we had to evolve darker skin as an adaptation to losing our fur. As it is, the video is confusing, as it implies that humans evolved darker skin as we moved north to more sunnier regions of Northern Africa.... Wtf all of Africa isn't sunny?!
+Steven Soth True. Brown was the default (Ala Khoisan and East Africans). Some Africans around deserts are extremely dark skin much darker than the typical African because of those brown people migrating to deserts
Greatness Humans are Apes, Apes have fur. Humans evolved gradually , so of course early Humans had fur, it didn't suddenly disappear over one generation
@@temporary6715 don't worry, it's simple. There's a substance called "melanin" inside the human body, responsible for blocking harmful ultraviolet rays from the sun. The side effect is that it makes their skins darker. So the more melanin a person has, the darker his skin will be. People in tropical areas need darker skin to survive. However, ultraviolet rays are also necessary for bone growth and Vitamin D absorption. In cold places, where there's not much sunlight, people need brighter skin to make up for their lack of ultraviolet rays, which help them with Vitamin D and other things.
@@melontusk7358 You’ve misinterpreted my sarcasm. You are completely wrong. - There are 3 types of uv rays. The two that reach earth : UVA + UVB - Melanin allows for the absorption of UVB while preventing the more harmful UVA from penetrating the skin. - Vitamin d is not “absorbed” from the sun. It is produced in the body (similar to photosynthesis) by the UVB rays which are ALWAYS present during the day. - It is people without melanin who are deficient because they do not have any protection from the more harmful UVA rays. Also, sunblock blocks both UVA + UVB rays altogether which further limits vitamin d production. - Your last sentence about people needing brighter skin to make up for lack of rays makes absolutely no sense. UV rays are ALWAYS PRESENT regardless of temperature... To reiterate melanin blocks harmful UVA rays (Causes cancer) Not UVB rays (absorbed to produce vitamin D) - The melanated person can live anywhere because the UVA rays will never be harmful. The person without melanin has to live far away from the equator to avoid as much UVA as possible.

Safiyyah Ehsan Although I'm unsure of your intent with a subtly off-putting demeanor in certain replies you formerly have provided. Here is your answer: What is albinism? Albinism is a disease in which a person has partial or complete loss of pigmentation (coloring) of the skin, eyes and hair. What causes it? Genetic mutations that affect the production of a pigment called melanin. There is a cell called the melanocyte that is responsible for giving skin, hair, and eyes pigmentation. In albinism, the melanocytes are present, but genetic mutations interfere with their pigment production or their ability to distribute it to keratinocytes, the major cell type comprising the epidermis, or outer layer of the skin. There are currently five known genetic types of albinism, the most common being oculocutaneous type 1 (OCA1) and type 2 (OCA2). Oculocutaneous means affecting the eyes and skin ("oculo" meaning eye and "cutaneous" meaning skin). It's not a video, but I think you'll find that this video actually delved into some of the answer already.

+Bruce Wan I'm curious about that as well. From what I've gathered, the mutations that lead to lighter skin in Europeans were different to those that affected East Asians. I'm unsure of the specifics however.
+Merry Machiavelli It's more than just melanin (of which itself there are two types). It's also about the lipids, water content, thickness etc of the skin. I couldn't find anything online, but this sheds some information. www.whiterskin.info/black-skin-white-skin-asian-skin-whats-the-difference/

+KorennRachelle I love how you instantly pinpoint whites as being racist, but don't bother to mention that racism can be and is present in every single race. To present it in such a way as to imply racism is a white thing, is racism.
+boy638 How so?
+boy638 Check a world map or a statistical data by countries of IQ. Both would be considered racist.
There are two type of racism. One that based on prejudice and complete nonsense, and one that is nothing but scientific data but "offensive" truth so it is considered racism.
The fact is that we are not the same, but even mentioning that which is a truth, is considered racist.
So technically we were all black?
+Sand Shadow Yep , that is well known. lighter skin colors are mutations.
Yes.
It's called genetic degredation.
Yep 😎
Yup
The animation in this was so cool! And that last sentence was so powerful.
“Therefore, skin color is little more than an adaptive trait for living on a rock that orbits the Sun. It may absorb light but it certainly does not reflect character.”
Oh dear, hope someone realize the golden message of this video ❤️😍
This should be shown in all schools for kids. It's comprehensive information and the animation is nice.
Yes this seems to be very kid friendly and appropriate
And yet these adaptations spark discrimination among others.
+Pokemonlin99 That was really only inspired during the slave trade to justify keeping Africans and black people as slaves.
+Cole Loves You
Most likely cultural superiority and of course religion made it possible, it just happened to be beneficial economically.
+Cole Loves You
You do know that racism existed way earlier than slave trade, right?
If it weren't for racism separating the tribes, would these changes even occur? Think about it.
+George Cataloni
You've been entered into "The dumbest UA-cam comment ever" contest.
This video made it seem like humans started out as light-skinned and evolved to have dark skin. It's important to remember that black skin was the default, and all the other shades mutated from our ancestors with dark skin.
+Steven Soth The first humans had fur.
+Thomas Drowry no
Same reason why We see Blue Eyes, Monolids and Afros, they're all adaptations to better suit the environment
what are the environmental benefits of having no melanin?
To absorb Vitamin D more efficiently in colder places.
@@melontusk7358 Walk me through it...
The two that reach earth : UVA + UVB
- Melanin allows for the absorption of UVB while preventing the more harmful UVA from penetrating the skin.
To reiterate melanin blocks harmful UVA rays (Causes cancer) Not UVB rays (absorbed to produce vitamin D)
- The melanated person can live anywhere because the UVA rays will never be harmful. The person without melanin has to live far away from the equator to avoid as much UVA as possible.

Oh, yeah fake tans are awful. It's perfectly okay to be white!!
Tanning is part of light skin, if you pale you spend too much time indoors

We do get darker, our skin just does not burn in the sun.
@Alok Singh A small amount does reach here.
@Sofia Diane why is it false just because it doesn't happen to you? My skin gets way darker I visit my family in Africa because I spend more time out in the hot sun. But gets lighter when in Europe because the heat where I live is not as intense and I spend majority of the time indoors. So its false in your case.

You are valuble. No matter what your skin color is. Even if people don't show it now, they love you. I'm right here if you need to talk about it. Because, you are worth it. You are worth time, you are worth effort. You are a human being. You’re different to us. That’s what make you unique! You are worth everything people say they have wasted on you. Even if you don't think it yourself, your life is precious, so enjoy while it lasts.Your life is not a movie, don't end it. PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON ALBINOS
albinos are just really white people and whites are 50% albino there
MunkeiGUN You are incorrectly referring to the OCA2 gene not albinism mutations on a whole.
Safiyyah Ehsan Although I'm unsure of your intent with a subtly off-putting demeanor in certain replies you formerly have provided. Here is your answer:
What is albinism?

Not trying to generalize or be racist, but what gives people of east asian descent their slightly yellowish hue?
+Bruce Wan I'm curious about that as well. From what I've gathered, the mutations that lead to lighter skin in Europeans were different to those that affected East Asians. I'm unsure of the specifics however.
+Merry Machiavelli It's more than just melanin (of which itself there are two types). It's also about the lipids, water content, thickness etc of the skin. I couldn't find anything online, but this sheds some information.

+HayabusaFor Life Penis size is cultural. Many african cultures had the female pick her mate based on the male penis size. After a while, the average became slightly larger (perhaps not as large as we all think today). I saw some documentary on african tribes, many still practice it today. I'm assuming the connection in racial averages of course.
