  • Human cannibalism is a lot more common than you might think. Dive into its complex history and see its uses in medicine, cultural rituals and in times of survival.
    --
15th century Europeans believed they had hit upon a miracle cure: a remedy for epilepsy, hemorrhage, bruising, nausea and virtually any other medical ailment. It was a brown powder known as “mumia,” and was made by grinding up mummified human flesh. But just how common is human cannibalism, and how do cultures partake in it? Bill Schutt explores the complex history of cannibalism.

I'd wish they also talked about the Cannibalistic practices from indigenous people in Brazil. To summarize it, when a tribe would capture a soldier from a rival tribe, they would normally cook and eat him so they could acquire his powers. But the cool part is that the captured soldier would mostly be cool with it and would treat the whole thing as an honor. At most cases, the enemy tribe would even serve all of the prisoners needs and wills, tending to him as a respected guest. The whole thing was a spectacle, the prisoner would even need to pretend to have escaped just to be "captured" again, and if walking feast were to show any signs of fear or sadness, they would deem him as unworthy of consumption and would return him to his former tribe (there he would be casted away for cowardice).

My Ancestors were Caribs (actual Name were the "Kalinagos") and it wasn't 100% proven that all Caribs were Cannibals.. Christopher Columbus and some of his crew just saw a group of Caribs near some Greasy fried up Meat and *thought* it was Human flesh.
The Caribs treated him nice because they had never seen a white man or advanced ships in their life so they thought he was a type of God but in reality Caribs in our History Books were actually war like (There is another race that were actually peaceful and are known as "Taino" but are more popularly known as "Arawaks") and there is a theory that said the main reason they ate Human flesh was because they believed that the warrior spirit/skill of a Carib still lies in their flesh when they die so in order to strengthen their warriors they would eat off some of the meat from their fallen Brothers for their skills in combat. This Theory shows that yes, Most *Carib warriors* might of been Cannibals but other Caribs weren't

My sociology teacher had a teacher in university that was invited to participate in a cannibalistic ritual of a tribe nearby our state. He was, however, forbidden from retelling exactly what happened as it was a religious pratice of those people, and therefore not only protected by law no matter what but by his own promise to the tribe.
Dude just ate someone's leg and can't even tell what it tasted like. Smh.
