Odd question, I can't get past the smell of curry powder (to me it smells like dirty socks). I've had good curry, but my friend tells me each family has their own blend of spices they use to make their curry. Please, I hope you have a recipe I could use to make a curry anything!
@@cherylshort5005 your friend is correct, every family and country has its own receipt that is personal as well as regional. If you can identify what ingredients you find unpleasant then you can omit it. There are how ever ingredients that are a must when making the ' typical ' curry one usually gets. One of the best curry powder that I haved encounter is Jamaican curry, it has a high percentage of tameric but the blended mixture of all ingredients are well balanced.
@@celianeher7637 thank you! I have made a few curry type recipes with a friends mix. Mist spices I'm good with I'm not thrilled with cinnamon, cloves & nutmeg in savory dishes. Turmeric, garlic, ginger, cumin seeds, cumin, coriander and seeds, no problem.
I LOVE this site so much!! Finally a cooking show for introverts:-) None of that loud over the top music or in your face host!! These are so chill and really awesome recipes! Great job and thank you!!
Made this for dinner today and it tasted as good as it looks. I followed the recipe except I used only 1 potato and used 2 cups split peas. The roasted chick peas, chili oil, garam masala and arugula as toppings really did bring the taste over the top. This is a keeper!
I have to tell you that while I am not fully immersed in plant-based or vegan cooking yet, I enjoy quite a few of your recipes, and have tried them. I have even gone to HMart Asian supermarket here in Denver to purchase items to use. I love that place! That being said, my family, who are mostly German, have always been big meat eaters. I have had requests from them to make my split pea with ham soup, a recipe that I have been cooking for 52 years. I will use your recipe the next time I want split pea soup, as I love curry and chili oil. The chickpea recipe is one that I have made for years, just as a healthy snack because I can control the sodium that goes into it. I'm all about trying to add more flavor to what I cook. I have made your chili oil, and have a Ball Mason jar of it sitting on my counter and use it frequently. Thank you so much for all the great recipes and the love and commitment that you put into them! 🥰
I’m a huge fan of pea soup, and I think your crispy chickpea topping is genius. I have made this soup my whole life, but I’ve never soaked my peas ahead of time. I usually just let them cook in vegetable stock as long as they need to, and I don’t bother blending the soup as I find a potato masher works great. I like a textured soup, though.
Curry pea soup is also a traditional dish here in Malta. Your recipe is quite similar to my mother's, though she added white beans, instead of chick peas. Some of the curry spices grow wild here.
Ur an amazing cook and teacher. I came across u accidentally and really enjoyed ur utube of creamy mushroom soup. At almost 86 years of age, I love learning new things. Made the mushroom soup yesterday and it's the best creamy mushroom soup I've ever tasted. Next week I'm looking forward to making this curry split pea soup. Thank u for sharing ur love of cooking healthy foods.
Hi comment section, I made this soup but substituted the split peas with mung as these were all my local store had. This soup is wonderful, comforting and versatile, I'll make it many more times.
Hi Mandy - I usually doak them for 4-6 hours or overnight, depends if I remember. I think it depends on their freshness and personal sensitivity to legumes. Also, I still make this soup often :)
@@raindownxx OK thanks. I'll try it will them..... I used split peas this time... actually the first dish I've made using split peas successfully. so will try the mung next time..... x
I love your recipes. I am a long time plant based diet person ( 25 plus years) and your recipes have added so much to my cooking rotation. I especially enjoy watching your videos, restrained , easy to understand voice overs and sumptuous visuals. Thank you
This is typically a very good receipt for cold days like we have in France and Germany at the moment Good for the body and good for the soul as well and above all very well explained by Will (as usual)
If you ever decide to package and sell your foods, i hope you make this pea soup one of your offerings! I loved this recipe. Thanks for a lovely experience every time.
I am going to make this! My 30 something children and their partners are going to love the heat from the chili flakes. A lovely take on a French Canadian favorite!! Merci!
Thanks @yeungmancooking for another great recipe! I found this is similar to most of the other split pea soup recipes out there, with the notable exceptions of added curry powder and chili flakes, and the roasted chick peas. I also had half of a sweet potato in the fridge so I cubed that and added it too along with the potatoes. Also shortly before serving I added about 1 tsp of liquid smoke. It turned out great, and is a fun spin on an old standby. Thanks again and keep the plant-based goodness coming!
I have been surfing through your channel and I am ecstatic to say that everything i see looks just perfect. Now, if only I can actually make some successfully. 😊
The weather is getting cooler in Melbourne Australia which makes it time to cook soup. This looks warming and hearty. Definitely will be on the menu. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I have been coking for more than 40 years, mostly Italian recipes. I have done Persian recipes as well, but I just fell for Mr. Man's recipes, which I have made to perfection thanks to his perfect guide. Looking forward to making his tagliatelle with tofu and many others. What a great fusion Mr. Man! Thanks
New to your channel and loved the e-book, much appreciated. The absolutely beautiful presentation of the soup really makes me want to make this and will tomorrow, again much appreciation. Two great toppers are Nigella seed and fresh Sumac... great to twist the taste buds just a bit... looking forward to many more recipes from you. 🌼
I would like to thank you for sharing this video and congratulate you on your excellent work. Thank you. I have performed this recipe twice, this week. Once to test at home and today for my family! What a great time we had! Thanks again.
I know this is an older post but I was looking for a curry lentil soup. After watching it I think 8 cups of water made it two liquidy I think I would reduce it to 6 and give it more of a hearty stew consistency.
Do you have a link for the storage bins you use for your spices? I always enjoy making your dishes. We regularly make the Palak Paneer. We triple the spinach! It’s great. Thanks. Keep up the great work!
It's evening here, so I'm gonna soak split peas, perfect timing. Though, as green split peas are rare and expensive here (they cost few times the regular yellow ones), I plan on using yellow split peas for this recipe. I wanna use green ones for recipes which will highlight their beautiful colour and here the green goes under, so yellow ones should be good.
I make this exactly! Except, of course your finishing touches by adding the chick pea, arugula, chili oil, and garam masala definitely add that Yeung Man touch! Yummy!

Do you not eat potatoes? I didn't know Dr Fuhrman was against potatoes.
Yum! I love the music on this episode.
