    Ironically, the one game the Repeat Ball would be most useful in, Pokémon Legends Arceus, doesn't have it. It's the one game where catching several of the same species is actually part of the story.

      Nah, fam, this ball came in clutch for me because I had a bad habit of refusing to go to a Pokémon center unless I absolutely had to, so I didn't want to have to worry about a freshly caught Pokémon being low on health if it was added to my starting team instead of being sent to the box where the health is fully restored regardless.

    When trying to capture the extra Miraidon, he was jumping out of every ball. I had just thought that the Love Ball could do the same as the Dream Ball, but with Charm status.
      Perhaps have both, if it's either part of the same egg group, it gets a 4x modifier, and if the target is charmed, it gets an additional 4x modifier, making it a 8x if you charm a same egg group pokemon. It would not be 'as good' against the genderless pokemon, but it would work against 90% of the dex with proper work.

      Incidentally, the heal ball can also be quite nice since you may not have access to full healing for some time and not have enough resources in your bag, and you can only use the six pokemon you have with you - when you have a full team, you have to release a pokemon for the new one.

    You bring up aesthetics in this video a lot, and it got me thinking: I'm surprised there hasn't been some sort of ball customization in the games yet. Something like a shop service in game to alter the appearance of your pokeballs, either to give yourself a signature set, or to aesthetically fit whatever you've caught in them. I remember in a previous generation - I think 4? - we could put visual effects on our pokeballs, yet we still cant just customize the look of the ball?

      @@petelee2477 OP did say "for competitive and going for rarer abilities", which if you're doing that then you've already completed the dex so you're not worrying about missing rare Pokemon. And Level Balls are WAY harder to get than Repeat Balls outside the Johto games. If we use current day competitive as an example, in ScarVio you only get ONE from dex milestones, after that they're locked behind DLC, and you still can't get them easily because they're only in the Item Printer Pokeball Lotto which on it's own can take a few attempts to trigger. So if you want enough Level Balls to catch a lot of Pokemon you'll burn through BP just trying to trigger it, but Repeat Balls you can just buy from the shop and money/LP are easier to grind (especially LP if you just interact with Tera Dens every day). Considering its difficulty to obtain, Level Balls are basically only good for aesthetic and saving them for a Pokemon you want to catch them in, especially if you don't have access to the DLC to get more. Also the video mentions that the Level Ball won't have its maximum boost for late game Pokemon since they're so close in level to your own even at 100, so if you're shiny hunting or trying to find high level competitive Pokemon and you don't care what ball it's in, you might as well use a Repeat Ball or other Pokeballs instead of wasting your one (or few) Level Balls.

    • @doomsdayrabbit4398
      @doomsdayrabbit4398 8 місяців тому +13

      @@thefirstguyjaek255 actually I was incorrect. Heavy modifies the catch rate itself directly by addition and subtraction, so for Pokémon like Gastly and Haunter, which, despite their low weights, have catch rates of 190 and 90, meaning that a thrown Heavy Ball will, yes, be *worse* than a Poké Ball, only get hit by a -20 modifier, meaning it becomes the same as throwing a regular Poké Ball at something with a catch rate of 170 or 70 - not incredibly difficult, but not *great* by any means. The issue comes when you have a Pokémon with a catch rate below 20 that also isn't particularly heavy - the Tapus and Beldum specifically - which cause the catch rate to go negative and thus be set to a default value - 0 in SM and 1 in all other games. In SM, as the catch rate is set to 0, the ball will *always* fail on those four Pokémon, while in other games it just fails three times as much as an ordinary Poké Ball.

    The heal ball actually came in really useful for me once. I was playing PokéMMO with two of my mates and we had a rule where we couldn't spend any money. All Pokéballs we used had been scrounged from bins, the floor or given to us directly by NPCs. We were at the desert route in Unova, and I had two or three Pokémon all of which were very low on health or had fainted, and I knew that the chances of me escaping every wild encounter on my way back to the Pokémon centre were very low, and I would most likely have lost regardless of whether I tried to run from every wild encounter or whether I tried to fight the rivals on the way to the next city. I also didn't have any revives or potions so healing on my own was out of the question. I decided to try and catch a Pokémon using a heal ball, since I had enough health to battle one Pokémon and if I could catch it first try, I would survive and have an insurance Pokémon. I ended up doing so with a Darumaka or a Sandile, both of which became valuable members of my team, and helped me to survive that route

    #2: Make the Heal Ball heal pokemon you have while you walk. Such as 1 HP for every 10 steps. Sure, it's not super useful, but if your whole team are caught with Heal Balls then you've got a team of pokemon that are a lot harder to wear down while in dungeons.
    #1: Straight up make the Love Ball so that any pokemon of the opposite gender as the pokemon you have out more easily catchable, whether it's the pokemon of the same species or not. Probably would have to lower the catch rate boost, but that would make Love Balls much much more useful.

    fun fact: the heavy ball is the only pokeball that (in a certain context) can never work at catching a pokemon.
    due to a glitch in sun and moon specifically, the heavy ball will always fair to catch a pokemon whose weight is less than 100 kgs and whose catch rate is equal to or less than 20. this means that is was impossible to catch beldum and the guardian deities in heavy balls.

    • @insulttothehumanrace3807
      @insulttothehumanrace3807 10 місяців тому +3

      This is not due to a glitch, but due to the weird way Heavy Ball works...
      Unlike other balls, Heavy Ball does not have a multiplier. Instead, it adds a flat number to the catch rate, and whatever that value is depends on the Pokemon's weight. Pokemon weighing less than 220 lb/100 kg actually had a - 20 add-on, making Pokemon with an already low catch rate (like Beldum, which is JUST under that weight limit) have a negative catch rate, thus being completely impossible to capture with a Heavy Ball.

    I find the Repeat Ball to be super useful for trying to get Blueberry Points, but that’s just in one game.

    Repeat ball has been useful when doing the objectives in the DLC. If it says "catch a water type" I just go over to one I already caught and use it. Not much more useful than before, but it is something

      It's great when catching spares for trades or IV hunting too. It definitely has its uses... but it's still very much a niche ball.

      I just Quick Ball everything. It is so repetitive that I would lose my mind if I had to actually weaken them every time.

    4:02 it’s also useful for if you want to get more of a pokemon that you already have registered more easily. It’s saved me tons of time trying to catch multiple espurr, eevee, and many more.

    I wonder if it would be too OP to have the Heal Ball restore a captured Pokémon's HP after every battle?

      I would rather the Heal Ball be OP than to be almost completely useless to the point of almost being the worst Poke Ball ever made.
