If Yip didn't get kicked from the chat he probably would've shared more info right away. I would've done the same thing if they treated me the same way they treated him. Good on him for keeping it secret for so long. He cracked the code, everyone else were just amateurs.

The solution is *clearly* an invisible teleportation circle hidden somewhere, that's activated by casting a specific teleport-to-city spell on top of it. They won't. Mod mat k was the curator, hiring cambridge experts in cryptology.
@@rswillmissit you don’t play OSRS?
The reason this was so difficult was because there was no feedback from the game. You had to have everything aligned perfectly to get any feedback (win condition) from the game. They should have made it so digging in the correct spot without the items would indicate there's something buried there. Having the correct 3 items would then be sufficiently hard to know and brute force.
Claiming pikachu yip brute forced it is dumb, because they had crowds of people trying to brute force through massive digging operations.
23:10 You can see a massive hotspot around the correct digging location after the final clue was revealed.

I love difficult puzzles, but mods giving fake hints, that feels scummy. I don't like that part. No hints or small hints, not fake hints.
Yeah, a puzzle with fake hints that have nothing to do with anything isn't a good puzzle.
ARG's often have red herrings. If you think this one was hard and drawn out, look at the Frog Fractions 2 ARG writup on the game detectives wiki
@@ElectricAlien577 yea, it kind of devalues the whole: everything on the map is important thing.
I dislike Jagex, the mods and the community. Stopped playing years ago
@@Ivy_Panda it still a bad way of doing it. If you want to make red herrings you need to either make it possible to be identified as such if you think about it or have something at the location the red herring to tell you were wrong. I love stuff like this. Things like this don't happen anymore. It reminds me of things like secret ways to get on to developer island or the secret interrogation room with the chair in the middle in world of warcrafts or the rumor that you could fish the ash bringer out of a specific creek fb
I remember feeling like a genius after solving the first Cryptic Clue Fest puzzle in RS3, even though it wasn't very hard.
When the second and third cryptic clue events came around, I was like: "Yeah, I'm just gonna wait for someone else to do it."
I really wish those cryptic clue rewards were still obtainable after the fact, like the Crack The Clue items are.

I can’t believe this was 8 years ago. I had so much fun checking the sub everyday to see our progress. Time flys man
I'm legit pissed off that no one gave him the chance to prove he has found it, just automatically not believe him.
We were constantly being trolled and mocked by people every day "you guys still haven't solved it yet? wow" "guys i solved the clue!" it was extremely annoying. I even made a CTC in a nutshell video about it because it was such a meme in our community.
Pikachu yip and us talked it out and there were no hard feelings.
@@schmiddy8433 does not excuse you were all petty children when someone found it before you. you did not wait, ask for proof. just kicked him, lashed out at him when he truly found it, treated him like shit. then through a temper tantrum hen he did not hand the location after the way you all treated him.

Hating on people for keeping a community intact and then putting intent into people's heads you don't even know is what's petty and pretty pathetic.
@@schmiddy8433 Having moderation staff in the first place is unacceptable - censoring other adults and trying to control them is never okay in any circumstance, ever, that's literally slavery with a few extra steps. I think it was shitty of people to dogpile the guy who solved it.. he wasn't there at the start, but he took the initiative and found the helm when all those others couldn't. The players who spent that year searching for it should be proud that they got that far, but it was Yip who took it over the finish line.

Its amazing how 1 single solo player that was not popular or a streamer cracked the clue lol. All those big famous players and big clue clans must have gotten their egos hurt.
It could be that they were overthinking the final solution that they may have overlooked a possible solution
I’m curious if it was too hard to go off of not knowing for so long that you had to have specific items in your inventory.
That Pikachu Yip guy is a fucking legend.
Lmao what a pathetic group of “treasure hunters” constantly begging for hints on a search they volunteered to take part in only to whine and complain and ruin this game further , I had no idea about this story and it’s sad to see how players handled every situation .
It only takes one person to beg for a hint.
There were plenty of us that thought that was a really lame thing to do.

only just found this channel after seeing another video, never of this crack the clue before, really interesting. this channel has good stuff to binge
Him making the salty ones suffer and forcing them to keep trying to figure it out is great
the best part is most of the people saying he was only riding the finds of others were people that did not even try to find it.
Moral of the story is: Sometime the people who accomplish great things or find the answer to difficult questions aren't always the most dedicated, but the silent observers waiting for their time to strike. To be kicked from the clan and ridiculed after having solved the problem fair and square really shows that elitists dedicating too much time to one thing, aren't always destined for greatness. Sure, their method was rough around the edges, but having been treated disrespectfully, he was right to keep it a secret even after solving the puzzle
Cant blame pikachu yip, after they'd kicked him from the chat I wouldn't have told them either 😂
I just want to take a moment to appreciate this guy’s storytelling, and the way he plugged it that sponsorship ad. Fucking genius XD
It’s honestly a shame that so many hints were given out. It was a well crafted puzzle it shouldn’t have been helped with
If you think this was hard, the hunt for "Raxxla" in Elite Dangerous has been going on for YEARS
This is a really good video. While I didn't know who you meant when you said his name was immortalised in-game(maybe because I am F2P), it made me wonder who it the first guy could be. I like puzzles and I like the way you explained the timeline from the start of the video all the way to the reveal. The editing is nice too
I started playing osrs just a month ago and i started getting these clue hunter outfit for wintertodt 2 weeks ago. For the last piece.. it said.. it needs super antipoison (1).
I didn't bother with 1 dose left and just dig anyways... nothing. But when I had the nature runes, leather boots, and super antipoison 1. on my inventory.. it worked
I could imagine the frustrations of players who did had it but failed for the last check. And superantiposion 1...

Made me wish i was there to expirence it. It's a great video! Now, how TF did anyone solve the f2p selling ruby rings, 27 of the most random items
Its not about being the only dude with the thing. Its about the challenge and making people earn it.
Good transition into the add lol gave me a good laugh. Love the way you edit the videos and the details of having the characters "say" the words is a small but much enjoyed detail!

This video just showed up as recommended but i loved looking at it. Well put together!
im shocked to think people would be this angry at him for finding it first, to go as far as telling him to kill himself. crazy..
maybe the real helm was the friends we made along the way
Incredible how salty people were over the fact that some random player found the helmet first.
I love that all your videos are straight up movies.
I'm kind of glad I didn't hear about this clue back when it was happening. I don't mind a tough puzzle, what I do mind is when devs pretend they're giving real hints to help their players that have had difficulties for months only for them to lead to more dead ends.
That Nord VPN adv was amazing
They totally should have ultra rate legendary clue scrolls, that if solved, reward something really cool. It doesn't have to be a combat item or something usefull. A cosmetic cape override would be fine.
If England's a barren wasteland, I don't think I want to know what Birmingham is.
It's both funny and ironic that they claimed Yip "brute forced it" and "piggybacked off the success of others" when that's really what the community was already doing. And he also didn't really brute force it.
Also, that solution does not feel "obvious" like Jagex kept claiming
Imagine if somewhere on the map there's a spot that if you dig with certain items, facing a certain direction, you immediately become fully maxed with rares and max gear sets. Just, no one knows the items or the location. :^) So at any point in RS you could have possibly walked over the "win" condition without even knowing it.
Enjoy your new anxiety.
I like how the community ignore the man, kick him, and after they complain that the guy doesn't want to give the info. People are really stupid these days.. I would be in his situation I wouldn't give the location either, these dudes should have treated him better.
