Dispite all the problems with CCR, several years ago in Honolulu, I attended perhaps the best concert of my life by John Fogerty, he played 2hrs.45mins, no warm up act, the audience surprised me so well behaved, young people bringing their grandparents with walkers and canes, standing up so grandparents could sit down then as was in 1969 grandma dancing up a storm it was a great night I will never forget
I was fortunate enough to see John Fogerty live in Atlanta during his premonition tour. Everyone was up dancing with the great CCR tunes. Best concert ever.

i knew john and the others in 1965 when they were the Golliwogs. they all had great talent . John used to see me come into Mouseys in Davis, Ca and the band would immediately start [laying Wild wood Flower. I traveled to Harveys in Lake Tahoe to hear the guys play in a small corner of the casino. they all deserved the best.
That's so cool! Wish I had been able to see them in their Golliwogs days! "Fight Fire" is one of my favorite songs of theirs from that era.

I saw him play in concert with his 2 sons last Sunday and it was amazing. He is so awesome.
Saw him and his band at a little out door venue in Providence, RI in the summer of 2019. Paid for front row center and it was the show of a lifetime! Still rockin it out and still has all the chops. What a singer, songwriter, guitarist and entertainer!!! Best concert of my 58 years.
I just finished reading John's 2015 memoir. A great read, and he tells EVERYTHING about his long ride to the top. I was serving in Vietnam when the song, 'Fortunate Son' was released.
Saw him play about six years ago and he was amazing!
I saw him 6 times. Everytime with an other band. In all that bands were great musicians . Quality level was always high and he was always combining old with new songs. I never had a dull moment when I watched him performing. His voice and guitar skills are still top notch. I don't know him as a person. There are always two sides of the story you'll have to consider when there are problems between bandmates. I don't want to judge between arguments. He is a great musician and performer. I hope he will continue to do so.

That concert was a great one!
I’ve seen Him plenty of times. Never let down. I took My Son to see John when My kid was 6 years old in 1997. We had good seats way up front at Greatwoods in Mansfield Mass. He opened with Born on the Bayou. I can still see My Son standing in between Me and My late Brother Michael with His Boston Red Sox Jersey on singing “ I’m just a Chooglin on Down in New Orleans”. At the end of the Song he looked at My Son waved , Saluted and tipped his Hat. My Son was jumping up and down saying Dad Dad John said Hi to Me and He started crying tears of Joy. I will never forget that day. I Thank You John Fogerty for that Memory. One more thing , Thank You Julie for coming along and Thawing John Out. God Bless You Both. 🙏
I had the honor of meeting mr. Fogerty a few years ago. A truly amazing songwriter performer a true legend. When I met him at sweetwater sound in ft Wayne Indiana he was just a true down to earth guy.
I saw John Fogerty in Melbourne Australia in 1998 and he certainly played all his CCR hits. The show started with Born on the Bayou !
I saw him in July of that same year at Radio City Music Hall. He opened with the same tune and put on a hell of a show.
I’ve seen John Fogerty over a dozen times in the last 15 years. Just phenomenal every time. I took My Son when He was 6 years Old. We had Great seats. 4th row middle. We’re from Boston and my Son had a Red Sox Jersey on and John Saw Him and Tipped his hat , waved and Saluted My Son. My Son was beside himself jumping up and down yelling Dad John said Hi to Me He said Hi to ME ! It’s something as a Father I will never forget. My late Brother was with Us and We just smiled at each other like , Man Did that just happen ?! Can’t thank John Fogerty enough. A phenomenal memory for A 6 year old Boy. Also , Thank You Julie. 🙏

When you consider that CCR only lasted about 5 years John Fogerty wrote more great songs( in that time span) in the least amount of time than anyone not named John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Creedence never had a #1 single but I believe they hold the record for most hits that reached #2.
CCR has the distinction of having two songs, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, and Fortunate Son, in the billion Spotify streams club that is currently fewer than 500 songs, around 450. So, yes, CCR did not have a number 1 song in the United States but hold the record of number 2's without a number 1. They did have number 1's in the United Kingdom among other countries.
I saw him in Sacramento in 1998. He was absolutely incredible at THAT age.

He sang CCR songs way before 2004. I saw him live in Sydney in 1998 and he did heaps of CCR songs.

@@giovannivescuso6793 Sixteen years after CCR broke up, Fogerty finally played CCR music, but only because some real music stars encouraged him that otherwise people would forever think Proud Mary was written by Ike and Tina Turner. Fogerty never met a grudge he didn't like, especially if he could play the victim, cry oh poor me, pretend to want to make up, then turn things around and make the others look like the bad guy. He was a legend all right, legend in his own mind. The CCR members started playing in school in the fifties, covering others music. During their big two-year hit season they were still a cover band, except for a few originals, yet Fogerty tried to make out like he wrote all the old standards they played. What a jerk.

In large part due to the CCR songs Fantasy Records owned and generated revenue from, the record label was able to branch out and become 'Fantasy Studios'. Fantasy Studios had a number of movie hits, like "Amadeus". Another part of the story about John's U.S. Army service, as told by John in "Fortunate Son", is his first wife called the Army Reserve recruiter begging and pleading with him to sign up John because they were a young family with children. John Fogerty received his draft notice and the Army Reserve recruiter was able to "fudge" the date of enlistment, so it did not appear anything was handled illegally or through favoritism. To his credit, John Fogerty did serve in the U.S. Army for two years as a reservist during the Vietnam War, and actually pulled a good portion of that time on active duty. As it is reported in the video, his service time was spent stateside.
Sorry i have to correct you a bit on this video. I were at a Fogerty Concert in 1998 and the. He played ccr tunes. So he didnt start playing the ccr tunes in 2004 😊

Agreed. I've seen too many people in the comments sections of videos who have picked a side in the band's breakup, and talk negatively about the other side. Pointless arguments and drama instead of enjoying the music. The remaining band members have mended things in recent years, and are working together on merchandising the band. If they can put the past behind them, fans should as well.
I saw John Fogerty in concert in 1998 When he released “premonition”. He played a ton of CCR songs during that concert.

It was not about money that he didn’t play with his old bandmates , he felt betrayed by them . I dont believe money changed him .
@@charliever To be fair though, the fallout happened because instead of signing record deals and making decisions as a band, Fogerty tried to run the whole show himself and shut out Cook and Clifford (John's brother unsurprisingly took his side in the disputes). John was talented, but he also went full diva and drove a wedge between himself and the rest of the band. When he snubbed his old bandmates at that '93 show he only doubled down and made himself out to be a victim in the band's collapse.
@Rob Castelli The real fact is that Fogerty was setting up separate record deals behind his bandmates' backs, causing conflict and confusion when they were trying to establish deals as a band. Fogerty is a talented individual, but as is the case with almost every lead bandmate they go full-tail diva and are willing to sink the band in order to control everything. It's amazing that practically nobody got Stu or Doug's side of the story. Maybe be a little less vitriolic and separate the art from the artist, realize there's much more going on there.
There is bad blood between Fogerty and the others. It stems from personal conflicts and business agreements involving Saul Zaentz, former owner of Fantasy Records. Fogerty rubbed salt in the wound when he performed CCR songs at the RRHOF induction, without his former bandmates. There will never be a CCR reunion, for what it's worth.
Maybe lack of money is more like it. The other two screwed him over repeatedly and cost him a ton of money in lawsuits. He was right not to play with them.

They re-released the Golliwogs version in a huge boxed set. There's also a version on their self-titled CCR album. John and Tom split credit on that song.

There is no doubt John is a Narcissist, with this we have controlling behaviours. Being Narcissistic and controlling does not mean someone is bad or not worthy of our admiration. I have yet to meet a highly successful individual that was not Narcissistic. The focus should be on intent, and John’s intent I do believe has always been for the greater good. It is sad indeed he could not understand Tom and his challenges better. Stay safe🙏🏻❤️

Yep! It was on his 1975 self-titled album. "Almost Saturday Night" was the other big hit off that album.

You have some of this wrong. In a larger sense, Fortunate Son was about men of power who were perceived as using less fortunate people as game pieces. As to avoiding Nam, it wasn't the young men who were able to use connections to avoid Nam, it was in very small part the parents of a very few young men. Mainly, the fortunate sons were the guys who could afford to go to college. They were exempt from the draft. Ironically, Fogerty didn't go to Nam solely by luck of the draw. He was fortunate. Thousands of guys enlisted when they got their draft notices. Everybody "knew" that was the way to avoid being sent over. My oldest brother partied his way out of college, got drafted, and immediately enlisted. The recruiters assured him this was the way to avoid going to Nam. After basic training he was told he did well on tests and should go to Army Intelligence School. This would definitely keep him stateside. They sent him to school, then they sent him to Nam as a counter intelligence officer. And he found out when he got there that guys in CI didn't even get a rifle. He walked around that country for 13 months carrying nothing but a Colt 1911 pistol. And even my brother was lucky. A lot of guys who enlisted to avoid Nam came home in wheelchairs or body bags.

Except from 9:20. He said Fogerty didn’t sang Creedence songs Live until 2004. I’ve seen on UA-cam he played in 1986 ”Who’ll Stop The Rain” among others.
He also played and sang some CCR songs on his 1998 album named: Premonition. I’ve also seen him play in videos on UA-cam ”Bad Moon Rising, Born On The Bayou, Green River, Midnight Special, Down On The Corner from year 1995-1997.
Nothing new here, except at 9.30 where you get it wrong. He was playing his CCR hits since 1997, not 2004. CCRevisited began playing them in 1995, because up until then Fogerty was saying he would never play them again, and people worldwide wanted to hear them. Hence Stu and Doug asked John to rejoin them, he wouldn't after his very classy behavior at the Rock and Roll HOF debacle. SO they got on with it, and so then, eventually did he. John is a great musician, songwriter, git player, but he has done and said some weird things for a long time around Creedence. Time he gave it away, and stopped being so ornery. Some people are only happy when they are unhappy. Life is too short for such stubborn pigheaded nonsense for most.
Fogerty played Creedence again in 1987.

Let the facts speak for themselves, I often found it so surprising that the members of CCR hated each other. But for what it's worth Willie and the poor boys sure did put out some of the greatest songs #1 hit singles and albums & great bisects in all..
I can relate to John fogerty he lives for his passion music like a lot of people who self sacrifice to the detriment of relationships great that that's changed with him now a devoted husband and father while still playing and creating great music

9:19 Wrong, he played CCR songs both in 1983 and 1988 at El Cerrito High School Reunion. He also played CCR songs in 1987 for the Vietnam Vets and in 1993 at the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. Although he officially started playing CCR songs uninterruptedly in 1997
I believe they also played some of those songs at Tom's wedding around 1980.

putting aside, the whole 'swamp' thing, their name represented , in many ways, their pure kind of Rock & Roll. and BTW, any tune which mentions "listening to Buck Owens," is a good, solid American song. BTW, Julie Nixon is the only Nixon I truly loved.
Enlisting as a way to avoid the meat grinder was a pretty standard thing. You were not guaranteed anything, but the bottom line was that even drafted guys with particular skills would get better assignments than grunts who showed up with nothing particular as skills but maybe to hump gear and shoot straight.

The record executive was a real prick. Taking advantage of a situation and signing them to a crap contract. Then paying the other members off which created a rift between them and John. CCR had a ridiculous amount of hits in a small time frame, the money John lost would make anybody salty. He did a solo record John Fogerty-The Blue Ridge Rangers an underrated album of covers including country, gospel and rock.

The guys didn't choose the name The Golliwogs. Max Weiss of Fantasy records gave them that name and even had singles pressed with the name without their knowledge. They were and are still the best band ever!

CCR, for a long time, was treated dismissively in some circles. The "conspiracy theory" is that they simply don't cite CCR because it's too obvious when they like to promote different musicians instead. It's also confusing because CCR's influence can be found in every genre from nu metal to new country. Also, there is an unwritten rule in the music industry that "active rock" is supposed to come from Great Britain while "rhythmic" music is supposed to come from the US. CCR blurred those lines by, sort of falling through the cracks before their meteoric rise in which they were the first band to outsell The Beatles for a year. And yet, CCR did not appear on the newer list of 100 greatest artists by VH1 in 2011 after making the list in 1998. CCR gets credit, and were inducted to the Hall on their first year of eligibility, but at the same time, I don't feel like they get enough credit when you compare them to musicians that do. Rolling Stone Magazine, for instance, might include every album by The Cure or some punk rock band people don't listen to (not referring to the Velvet Underground) but will only include 2 albums by CCR ... when every CCR album (except Mardi Gras) should be on the lists of all-time albums. The reason I say that is because - listen to the music of the 90s: all of it sounds like CCR. Every f****** band of the 90s sounds like, at least 1 album by CCR (not Mardi Gras). Listen to any nu metal or groove metal band and tell me they don't remind you of "Penthouse Pauper" or "Sinister Purpose." Listen to any goth rock band and tell me they don't sound like "Gloomy" or "Tombstone Shadow." The Pendulum album sounds like a blueprint for both Bruce Springsteen's New Jersey sound and the Smashing Pumpkins album Melloncollie and the Infinite Sadness. The most direct "disciples" of CCR being: Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen (who, I would argue, picked up where CCR left off), The Eagles, Joan Jett (who includes "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" on every compilation album), Bon Jovi, Kid Rock, Brad Paisley, Keith Urban, and Miranda Lambert among more. The first band of grunge, is named after the CCR album, Green River...Green River became Mudhoney, whose drummer was part of Nirvana before Dave Grohl; Grohl also names CCR as an influence and covered "Fortunate Son" with John Fogerty. Kurt Cobain and Krist Novoselic were part of a CCR cover band they jokingly called Sell Out. J Mascias of Dinosaur Jr - names CCR as an influence. I would also argue that CCR influenced the shifts towards pop by Bob Seger, Fleetwood Mac, ZZ Top, and the Steve Miller Band in the 70s (when each one had been blues rock bands in the 60s) when rock 'n roll was viewed as being on the way out in favor of other music. Roger Daltry named "Born on the Bayou" as a favorite song, as did Bob Dylan for "Proud Mary." The list of musicians to cover CCR songs includes U2, Elton John, Johnny Cash, The Ramones, Santana, Goo Goo Dolls, Wyclef Jean, and on and on...including Richard Hell and The Voidoids on the influential punk rock album Blank Generation ("Walk on the Water"). Sonic Youth named one of their albums Bad Moon Rising. Little Richard liked the cover of "Good Golly, Miss Molly." Also, what "Hound Dog" is to rock 'n roll - "Proud Mary" is to disco, funk, and hip hop in the 70s after Ike and Tina Turner rearranged "Proud Mary" in the early 70s; Ike Turner is credited with the first song of rock n roll, Rocket 88, while Elvis popularized rock 'n roll with a cover of "Hound Dog" that was written for Big Mama Thornton. Also, "Born on the Bayou" and "Green River" were, if nothing else, subcosnciously imitated by Blue Oyster Cult on "Don't Fear the Reaper" and The Hollies on "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress."
As a new guy to the history of CCR but a long time fan, I think that the “other two members” of the group took advantage and fed the feud of the two Fogerty brothers to use a leverage to a more prominent part of the group. Perhaps, Mr. John Fogerty, sees this and doesn’t forgive them.

Fantasy Records sued Fogerty for plagiarism-----claiming that he plagiarized himself (:is that even possible?) when he wrote and recorded "Old Man Down the Road". The suit alleged that the chorus of that song and "Run Through the Jungle" are identical. (they aren't) The jury disagreed with Fantasy. I find Fantasy's contention ludicrous. The 2 songs ARE similar. But that hardly qualifies as plagiarism. Especially when both songs were written by the same person.
It's little wonder John has such contempt for that company and its owner.
I read somewhere that Fantasy has bilked the Tolkien Estate of $1B in royalties.

I always preferred his solo albums
John is a great songwriter and performer. That being said, he seems to be somewhat paranoid and a bit of a control freak. He also seems to have little patience with those who don't share his views. Pre-'Mardis Gras' he wrote the songs that weren't covers, did the vocals
(except sharing backgrounds on 'Who'll Stop The Rain'), produced the records (shredding any takes that weren't masters out of fear someone would take advantage of him). His rigid and controlling ways grated on his bandmates, causing Tom to leave and creating an uncomfortable situation that culminated in a pedestrian last album and the dissolution of the band.
In an interview with John's current wife, it came out that John has mild Asperger's, as did Tom. That sheds a lot of light on the situation. That probably was a gift in some ways to John, though, giving him savant qualities in writing and playing outstanding music.

Once when I was a kid my siblings and I watched rain coming toward our house on a sunny day. We saw it raining on our neighbors property while ours was still dry, then it was raining in our front yard, but not the backyard. Then it was both. It passed over us in a couple of minutes, then was sunny again, and steamy. I always think of that day when I hear "Have you ever seen the rain".
