The Billboard Top 10/100 shouldn't be any measure of an artist's greatness. In the late 60's and early 70's there was a lot of artists putting out legendary music. There was a lot of competition for number 1 plus the fact that there was crossover from Country, Folk, Motown/Soul etc. During Michael Jackson's run, for example, Pop music was no where near that level. CCR owned the Summer of 1969. I always gave John Fogerty respect because he served in the Military like Hendrix, Elvis, Tommy and Toy Caldwell (Marshal Tucker Band) etc. He has been consistent in supporting our Veterans even though I disagree with his politics.
Using a tainted lens to depict musical personalities and characters may generate a lot of clicks, but accurately balancing the positive and seemingly negative aspects of history takes a keener understanding and greater familiarity than a half-way researcher can manage. I doubt anyone associated with this video ever knew any of the members of CCR personally. Some groupies were very young; I started at 14.
Stu and Doug were awesome with CCR, they went on to back somebody somewhere sometime and did not find the same success, but yeah, John/Stu/Doug were just a force of nature. Tom at the time of CCR fame was just Rooster on the washboard
It's happened to so many great bands. Grand Funk was another huge band that signed a terrible contract which ultimately destroyed the band AND their music.
I recently have started liking the song "Vanz Can't dance" recently and found out that the song (out of a few) was talking about CCR's manager Mr. Zanz in terms of how corrupt and greedy he was and "how he would rob you blind".
The other band members didn't sell their voting rights in the band until 1988, after Zaentz sowed some extra dissension between the band members and also took advantage of the news that Tom Fogerty was essentially dying. Zaentz was all about squeezing as much money as possible out of CCR, and owning the majority of the voting rights allowed him to license all of CCR's songs to movies and advertising, earning him even more piles of money since he owned the rights to the songs. Without Zaentz manipulating the members of CCR, adding tension to the band, and signing them to a very long and exploitative contract, who knows - perhaps CCR would've stayed together. We'll never know. In any case, Zaentz was a major factor to the band's problems. (John wrote a couple of songs about Zaentz on his "Centerfield" album - "Vanz (Zanz) Kant Danz" and "Mr. Greed".)

So actually they were rather like anti-hippies who slipped into the role of being a band who plays roots rock, swamp rock, blues rock, Southern rock, country rock, and blue-eyed soul. I know a lot of hippies hated CCR
CCR was the "working man's" rock band. John said that they did NOT want to be like the hippies (who were known for having their heads-in-the-clouds and perpetually being on dope). CCR never smoked dope nor did they take any drugs. As a matter of fact, they were considered to be "uncool" by their own peers in the music industry for this very reason.

If we could all have 2 life's, first life to learn from, and the second one, to know better from the first, But have the same family, because there are so many things we do and say, that we have to live with, And I'm sure, we wouldn't make the same mistakes, But have much more insight, of where bad things, can ruin every life, The song "Put a candle in the window" Fits this perfect
They claimed to be hippies but hippies never fight. Especially not with other hippies. Hippies also never go to the police or to court.
@@jeanieruter8728 Ahh, you are wrong on a lot of what you post. Plenty pot going down, even in the private jets. But hippies were just self obsessed hypocrites and many around Haight Ashbury dudes were just parasitical leeches.
John Fogerty is the CCR!
Please name of song that plays in background? Thanks
