I've said this before and I'll say it again, there is not enough Chris Harris content on UA-cam. He is absolutely brilliant at what he does, yet i still feel that he is not appreciated enough.
He made a shit ton before going to Top Gear, check it out 😎
When he started out with TG, it was like the powers at be wanted him to be Tiff and JC all in one. Somehow they let Monkey be himself and it is brilliant. Love his honesty, in a world of PC and ass kissing he is just brilliant.
You can catch him on Collecting Cars. TBH honest he's not even on there much these days and it's selling stuff way too rich for me. Great back catalogue of a podcast to go with the channel though.
@@rescyn1190 yeah, I miss the podcasts. Had some great guests on
💯
Chris Harris is one of the few finger full of people that can help us to understand an experience that we haven't experienced ourselves in a detailed and articulated manner 🙌
So true, I'm just still trying to figure out if he liked the car or not lol
He should go on a heavy diet though - Look at the body mass he has put on over these past few years. Doesn't look too healthy. Apart from that, his piece of mind is worth listening to.
@@team3383 Thanks for the advice Karen.
@@drewdoes5641 Aha. His bum chum I suppose ?
Kindly tell him will you.
Thanks.
I'd pay to see an hour of Jason Cammisa and Chris Harris talking/debating cars.
Hagerty needs to make this happen^^
I’d subscribe
I imagine there would be alot of yelling and cursing and it would be awesome
I would still add Clarkson to that debate....
@@victorlgcarvalho to make weird sounds in the back?
As much as I’m happy for Chris being on TV, I feel as if he’s wasted on the general audience of modern TG. He deserves to be constantly making 20+ min reviews, not scripted TV.
The bbc should just gave him full control of the UA-cam, as well as funding something long-form like a podcast etc.
Hagerty will snipe him eventually at this rate.
They don't want another Clarkson/Hammond/May situation
They won't because the BBC is really anti-car and against heterosexual white men. Its so piss poor woke nowadays, it's infuriating and insulting
@@R4M_Tommy you mean massive succes?
@@Zoldergamer Ha, yes. How terrible to make millions off new BBC Worldwide content :)
Chris is the man on all things cars, full stop.
Together with Jason Cammisa!
@@BoyanDobrev he's a great writer and driver as well, yes.
That was such a British conversation. Loved it.
All the talking over? Could not hear some of it due to that.
Basically like the team that uses the engine in the AMG One 😂
British conversations usually involve the listener saying “yeah yeah yeah yeah” the whole time while the other person is talking. You love that?
What????
Pls explain dear boy, one doesn't quite understand. More tea anybody?
I noticed the slow gear shifts in the Nordschleife onboard lap. Very cool to hear Chris explain the reason why
Yutaka Yamagishi and Top Gear make best automotive content on UA-cam. Period!
"Couldn't you make it in a way that makes me NOT soil myself? " What a great engineering tip 🤣
So glad this car came to fruition! Looked dicey for awhile! Strange I still haven’t gotten mine 😂
You should be getting your government-issued unit in the mail in the next couple of never. 😅
@@WatanabeNoTsuna. thanks, Brexit
Still waiting for my allocation email too
I liked he mentioned the slow gear change. Notice the nurbanring lap time. The gear shift seemed slow
It’s a single clutch XTRAC transmission, pretty outdated stuff.
@@taylo2079 For such car, it should have dual clutch.
@@farishanafiah8461 heavier and sounds like with torque fill theres no need
@@farishanafiah8461 its an F1 box, f1 cars dont use a dual clutch

Chris Harris' shoulder must be so tired and heavy, carrying Top Gear all alone by himself throughout the years. Brilliant insight on the AMG One!
Love the nuance of the discussion. It’s a rare thing on UA-cam.
This sounds absolutely amazing to behold. Can't wait to watch this episode. Nice one Harris.
Glad Chris explained the gearshift thing I remember watching and hearing slow gear changes but never actually seeing a jolt as severe as an Aventador
2 words- “Willy Waving” 😂 - such a cool experience to have driven it, let alone get to see it in person. Huge fan of you both!
Love these videos. There should be more of this!! They even set up the chairs and everything
Huge respect for Chris. Fantastic content, as ever
Happy that Jack is getting more involved ‼️
Would love to see a show where Chris and Tiff do a travel show seeking out the holy grail of supercars from around the world.
Love seeing Tiff absolutely wring a cars neck
Well said! Chris continues to make the best car videos.
I love it that they now have two Stigs.
Really the only two "new Top Gear" contributors that I enjoy.
Reminds me of the supersonic passenger jet the USSR built to compete with the Concorde. Broke down a lot and was unbearably loud on the inside but it did what it was designed for!
Chris is the best part of top gear now. The one is truly a one of a kind car. The issues you got where probably due to the car being at full throttle for a couple days in a row. An engine like that can't be ran at maximum for days in a row even though its been sorted for the road. But how they have put that engine into a car that good with air con radio etc etc and it's that fast is crazy. Someone will remove all of that and purley have it as a race car which will be crazy fast.
Chris is fast becoming a motoring legend it would be great to meet him..
Chris is one of the only voices in motoring I really stand up and listen to
I love his honesty
It's been a good long while since I heard Chris say "it's a whole new thing." That must've been back with the P1 and 918!
His take on the whole project has given me a new appreciation for it. The One sounds for all the world like it was a waking nightmare from start to finish (and apparently might still be so), but if Mercedes-AMG of all people had thrown in the towel we'd all say it's impossible to put an F1 engine in a road car... but instead that _have_ done it, which is awesome.
Some of the best movies were a nightmare to film in much the same way.
it would be more impressive if they'd actually delivered, though, rather than being only ~14sec faster than a GT3RS with less than half the power, no turbo torque, half the driven wheels and no hybrid torque-fill
@@jsleeio conditions were definitely not optimal. A lap in the summer would see some big gains, they only had four runs at it!
Chris is also very gracious with his time and interactions with newer car reviewers in the UA-cam space.
This is good to hear. I was worried, I don’t know why, that the Amg one wasn’t a special car when say compared to the Valkyrie or sf90. Glad to hear it is
Still go to respect Mercedes and AMG, they are like an unstoppable force of smiles per mile with this One!
I'd take the GMA T.50 over the One. Both are special but the T.50 is very usable and sings like an angel. Still, respect to Mercedes for building it.
Pretty sure the T.50 wouldn't be far off in a ring lap despite not being a hotlap focused car, the T.50S would murder the AMG One, of that I'm sure
@@v0ldy54 are u serious🤦🏿♂️
@@v0ldy54 the AMG one has significantly underrated downforce levels wayyy more power it's heavier yes but has more advanced suspension and electric boost the GMA won't even beat a gt2rs
@@lovelehstuff the AMG One was said having 700ish kg of downforce (they referred to "half the car weight" at a time when the claimed weight was 1400kg, so maybe it's actually 850 considering the real weigth), which is really not that much for a car that heavy (1700kg).
The standard T.50 already has a better power/weight ratio than the AMG1 (plus even considering poower alone it's not that far off, especially once the electrics run out on the One) and probably a batter downforce/weight ratio too, however it's still made to be an actually usable road car unlike the 1 so it might not be enough to beat it on a track (but it surely wouldn't be far off on specs alone).
T.50s is a different animal, it's even lighter (852kgs is just INSANE), slightly more powerful (with 725hp it's LMP2 power/weight territory) and with tons more downforce.
They said (and considering Murray's LITERAL track record I believe them) they actually LIMITED the peak downforce to about 1500kg, and with a huge aero efficiency being a fan car.
You know what that means? That it can corner at 2.5g, there is just no way the AMG One is faster than that thing, even actual GT3 race cars wouldn't be able to compete with it in any aspect.
1. Sound better = cooler
2. Last longer more reliable
3. Bigger is better (more cylinder bigger higher rev)
4. Usable, drive to racetrack drave back home no problem(NSX DNA).
5. Fan = more down force
"The man with the massive forehead said, this is how we do it..." Brilliant.
Chris Harris needs to have his own UA-cam Channel presenting the cars while driving them. That's my wish
Collecting cars my friend.
I spent a lot of time in the AMG ONE over the last few years and the biggest issues for me was the noise in the cabin yet it being so quiet outside, that’s a strange experience because you can’t appreciate just how loud the thing is inside. Also I found the seat too upright so it got uncomfortable almost instantly. I think these cars outperform the tyres they come with, it would be very interesting to put a set of slicks on and see how it responds.
In saying the above, I do think this will be one of those cars that will be more appreciated in 10+ years. The feat of what they’re trying to do is incredible however I’d have personally preferred someone to have taken an earlier F1 engine like a screaming V10 and dump it in a road chassis.
The GMA cars and the Valkyrie are the best sounding production cars at the moment. Cosworth are geniuses.
And this is exactly why, I trust Chris Harris reviews on cars before I buy anything pass the 200k mark. Now I won’t get picked to buy an AMG one lol but still nice to see an honest point of view of the product.
Just give Chris his own show, would be amazing
I remember when we used to say "there's no substitute for cubes!" Looks like that's changed now.
Its funny that Chris calls out the shift speed. Saw a video of the AMG One on the Nordschleife, and the first thing I thought (other than blindingly fast it was) was that the shifting seemed slow (by hypercar standards.
Super cool to hear the BTS about the shoot... As the car did not seem finished from the other journo videos from that day lol
I think it is great that the car has quirks and characters just like race cars have. The cars are so perfect nowadays. The car that we idolize from the past all had character.
Harris...oder the Top.....He just cant lie💪🏆
We need more Chris Harris drives
Chris is the best. He is honest and to the point. If it's great, he'll tell you. If it's not, no fear, he'll tell you the bad and in an understandable way. He is the only reason I still watch the show to be honest.
After a 6:35 at the Nurburgring, under less than optimal conditions, congrats to Mercedes on continuing the willy waving quite impressively (though it took them some time to firm this thing up...:P)
The real question is *how long will it stay up?*
@@rahulsudhir666 The Huayra R might get a Nord lap attempt before the Valk and an upgraded GT2 RS will likely release somewhere in 2026 from what I've heard.
@@rahulsudhir666 I don't know if the Huayra R lap will be below 6:35. It'll likely be faster than the Zonda R but 6:35>= seems like a stretch so far.
@@PerSon-xg3zr That would be really interestin to see. They're very very close in their power to weight numbers but the Huayra R also achieves a bit more downforce than the Zonda R. But since it has active aero compared to the Zonda's fixed aero elements, I assume it'll translate to better aero management which results in better n faster cornering speeds. The difference between the normal GT2 RS vs the MR is a good case to consider how much aero can make a difference (Yes, I know the MR kit also includes upgraded suspension n other bits). I hope Horacio sends one out around the Ring soon.
1000hp car with F1 engine, carbon tub, crazy active aero, and went only 8 seconds faster than a 911 with wing on the back around the ring... If anything it's a shame it didn't go any quicker.
Amazing CAR
As of November 2022, only Top Gear, carwow, and Shmee150 has access to the AMG ONE. Mat's review is not that bad, but Chris's review is great. I never clicked on Shmee's video though.
I could listen to Chris Harris talking about cars for an eternity.....
I assume you can still use the radio if you're just going down the road to visit your family, cruising on the two electric motors.
It has 4 electric motors
God I could watch Chris talk all day
"look at these cup holders!" Words I never thought I'd hear from someone in a car as it goes down a 45 degree slope.
Best Motoring Journalist ever. Theres probably an hours worth of information communicated here in only 8 minutes. Oh, and the car sounds quite interesting.
Bravo Mercedes for the courage to do this
Somebody please tell the set designer that the bricks are upside down 😂
Yes, I have heard you say it before.
I respect mercedes perseverance on delivering the One regardless if its 5 years to late.
ahhh! Thank you for the gear change clarification..i just watched the Nur Lap, and though....gee the gear changes are slow! :D
Can someone explain to me why the upshifts line this car when pushing on sound slow and changing gear?
What a great talk , straight to the big question, do you need a formula 1 for the road ?
Love the honestly
this is the reason i watch top gear
AWESOME VIDEO AMAZING ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Chris is a national treasure 🏴
In short it doesn't always work but it's incredible. It's literally and f1 car.
HarrisC is the best automotive journalist there has been for years (in my opinion…and I’m a patrol head)
Now I REALLY can’t wait for the next 911 GT2 RS. Porsche won’t be able to handle not making it fast enough to reclaim the record.
Imagine top gear with clarkson, harris and Jason cammisa. Perfect tv
I would still rather have the Aston Martin Valkyrie over the AMG. I love Mercedes’s Benz but I would just got for the original AMG GTR spyder
Technically speaking, the AMG One puts every other road car to shame. It’s mad how complicated and difficult the challenge Mercedes has taken on is with that car.
It's still way too early to claim victory. Do keep in mind that this was still a factory prototype and we're yet to see how it fares in the real world. I'm not questioning or sidelining the achievements of the team at AMG, not for one second, but how such a highly strung machine stays relatively reliable is something we'll have to wait n see. Mercedes themselves have been quite unsure of the feasibility n reliability of the engine and is why they repeatedly sent out feelers out to and even flied in those who put down deposits to ask them if they would opt any other powerhouse instead. I believe they were given V12 n V8 options as well. That's also the reason why they ended up with quite a few cancellations. The fact that they informed US buyers at the last minute that it can only be used under _show and display_ led to further cancellations.
200k/4680/3800lbs Roadster = GAME OVER ⚡🔥🚀🇺🇲
To shame? 1000hp car with F1 engine, carbon tub, crazy active aero, and went only 8 seconds faster than a 911 with wing on the back around the ring... If anything it's a shame it didn't go any quicker.
@@weed46 It could have been more than 8s if the conditions were similar to when Porsche lapped in 2021.
@@weed46 wipe those tears, salty porsche fan
The engine itself just delivers 550hp tho.
The rest is electric power and that cant be deployed all the time.
I would take the aston martin valkyrie any day of the week. V12 6.5l almost 11k rpm and 1000hp. Yes thats an easy choice (imo)
Valkyrie is going to blow away this 1700kg mercedes.
Just get Rimac Nevera if you don't care about weight and sound.
I love Chris Harris - he was a brilliant journalist at Autocar magazine and I could watch and listen to him talk about cars all day. I'd also rather have a car like the AMG One than a Rimac
Chris AMG should talk with Porshe LMP1 to correct the issues of the AMG 1
Chris Harris is the Gordon Ramsey of motor journalism
Manny khosbin is going to be happy , his AMG one is coming soon to his garage
Would love to see a program with Chris, Jonny Smith and Harry Metcalfe. Proper petrolheads, seasoned journalists
Nice video AND 🚗
I've never heard the word useless being used as a compliment before
The fact they had a back up car ready to go tells me they were anticipating problems. If merc/amg truly felt ready, they wouldn't have needed the back up.
When I saw the ring record, and heard the noise from the inside I thought that thing sounds like a MotoGP bike
Upload the review next please 🙏
Which is better , this amg one or the Valkyrie?
Did he put to bed his beef with Mercedes 🤣? I love to see it
Willy waving who's in lol 😂😂😂😂😂
All influencers: "too little, too late, meh!" 😏
AMG One: beats all production cars around the Nordschleif 💪✌️
Reddit: too slow, a failure, too heavy.
AMG ONE: well I just got done setting a lap record on several extremely prominent tracks
Wow so these are the reasons it's not out yet
The dude wants to say to Chris say the Valkyries better than the project one
I watched the nuerburgring fast lap and thought the gearbox seams rubbish like the bmw smg box from years ago, but this explanation makes sense,,,, or is it an excuse????
I want to see Chris Harris and Jason Cammisa debating about cars. Please make it happen.
Once everyone gets past how underwhelming the launch of the car was, and looks at it for what it is, they’ll realize it’s a really good car, feel the same way about the Valhalla, it’s nothing like the concept, but damn it’s still gonna be a great car
This guy I can listen to him explaining how is """ anything Cars """ 1000000 time.
Can we have a drag race between AMG one and Remac Nevara?
Chris Harris on this Chris Harris on that when are y'all going to give us the opinions of Cars on the Chris Harris.
Chris makes you feel that you are in the car with him...who would have tought that AMG One is noisier inside than AM Valkyrie 🤷
I dream about show where Chris rants on all hypercars out there...we want more 😎
Not that my opinion matters and not that they won't sell them all...but it's hard to remember the last time I cared less about a new supercar than this one (I guess some of the "me too" all electric vaporware fall in that category). Very odd to work so hard to get that engine to work when nobody particularly loves the current F1 powertrains (even if they are incredible technical showcases).
Frankly, it doesn't even seem like it's moved the needle much beyond the 918. Put the 918 on custom developed versions of the latest rubber and it seems like they'd probably be in a similar ballpark. Perhaps I'm just jaded by them blowing the initial projections by so much that it seems like a complete failure in my eyes.
interesting!
Get your brick panels lined up chaps: the joints and repetitive patterns are doing my head in!
cant you guys get chris a valkrie drive and video?
MB AMG should have put a V10 in it, still F1, symphony to the ears imho.
Wouldn't be as balanced. Having 4 electric motors disturbed all around the car adds to the handling.
Curious what an actual owners experience is like. I’ve owned and driven some basket case cars and I’m not sure I could stomach the price tag and have the car at the mechanics more often than my garage
