I replaced a set of wheel studs in a parking lot in a shady part of Memphis Tennessee back about 10 years ago. Had a homeless guy hang out through most of the job. He was actually a lot of help and never asked me for anything. I bought us some McDonald's in the middle of the job and we had a great talk while cooling off in the AC. We used a whole bunch of washers to press the studs in because it's all we had on hand. The dude was so cool and helpful. I wish I knew whatever happened to him. Just goes to show that when you're working on a vehicle, someone will usually come to help or at least ask if you need help.

Sounds amazing Alex! I don't think you have a transmission issue, I think you have a drag race style transmission that requires lots of throttle input and at least 4,000 RPMs to complete a shift. I have an AOD built like this in my W124 Coupe. Go out there and hammer on it and I almost guarantee you it will shift and slam you into the seat.

I think that big "fuel line" is actually the EVAP vapor line. From what I remember most Ford's around that time had 3/8 feed and 5/16 return. I maxed mine out with 500 something to the tire.

  • @ajcornelius2060

Tech tip. Don’t push the line all the way into the fitting. There’s a line inside the fitting that you’ll push the hose too. I’d say 2-3mm from the lip in the fitting. Allows for expansion when inserting the rest of the fitting

I believe the cobra rotors are an inch bigger than the GT. The calipers are definitely cobra specific as they are twin piston. My 98 has those, PBY made them. The lettering on the rotors is cast and when you see remans it’s rare to get them with lettering. Rebuild is the way to go to keep that cool originality.

If tuning hurdles occur, may need to move maf to the fender attached to filter. May have to switch BOV to Bypass also. Decades ago to swap a 4 valve into a GT, required an engine, ecu & harness from donor. Perhaps, a Lincoln Mark VIII or Mercury Marauder (32v & auto)

This car brings back some memories. As others mentioned, new edge cobra rotors were larger than GT and had twin pistons. That wing is not a replica Cobra R wing as that would be much taller (I ran one from Cervinis on my '01 GT). That looks more like a Steeda rear wing. Or replica of one. Anyway, look forward to the next episode.

FYI. Factory 99 and up Cobras did not have a return line. They had a fuel pump driver behind the drivers side trunk panel that modulated the power going to the pump and a dead headed system. The factory fuel rail had the inlet in the back and a fitting on the divers side front for a fuel pressure sensor. As mentioned, the large line is EVAP.

It’s not a fake Cobra R wing, it’s actually a Steeda wing,I have the same one on my Cobra. And Cobra front brakes are 13” and are upgrades compared to GT front brakes. I love this build, I have a 1999 Cobra convertible that I’ve owned since 2003 and is built for auto cross. I was hoping you’d eventually get back to this build. And when you got to the PATS system I was really feeling for you. These cars are getting so hard to find cosmetic parts for. It’s getting so bad I’m starting to fear driving my car as many parts are becoming unobtanium.

I swear I could smell the rubber and feel the pain in the ends of my fingers when you cut that first fuel line! I did quite a few Aeromotive systems and I got much better at them the more systems I built but I always poked a few fingers enough to make the rest of the job painful. Good times!

I think the new edge all had returnless fuel systems. At least that's the case with my 2000 V6. On mine I have a focus pump (forgot the lph but I want to say it's 310) plus a boost a pump. Fuel is limiting more power on mine. Back in 05 when I built it, I really needed the 03-04 cobra dual pump system with an upgraded gauge wires.

Try looking at 94 Mustang GT and 96 Mustang GT rear rotors to see if they are different (though I don't know why they would be) It might be worth getting a Mustang GT rotor though if they have washers to shim the caliper, might be able to eliminate that 'jankiness'.
Rotors might be original from the IRS maybe? If not then the only thing i can think of would be Crown Vic rotors but also doubtful.

Alex it’s your speed sensor in your transmission. I had my 02 SS transmission rebuilt and it did the same thing you’re experiencing. It’s a sensor on the driver-side at least it was on the Camaro.

The vibes were high in this one man, the cobra is really sick. I’m super excited to see the Lightning get picked up again, it’s been like an ominous prescience hanging in the back of the other series lol

Rear rotors are from a v6/gt. Both of those had the solid rotors. Cobra, Bullitt and Mach 1 got the 13” front rotors and vented rear rotors

Alex, the long studs are mandated for vehicles that go a certain speed at the track. Chances are this was fast enough that it was needed in order to legally run at the track. Also check the rear rotors off of an explorer, those might be the correct rotors for that. Like a 97-98 explorer with an 8.8 diff with disc brakes.

I was told that some tech inspectors and raceways depending on what side of the country you are on prefer you to have long wheel studs for safety reason

Does it have a manual valve body? So drive would be 1st
2nd would be 2nd and 3rd would be low.

Rubber can last for a long time (I just replaced rubber brake lines from Oct 1979 on my 1980 280ZX, but they were in such great shape, they weren't even cracked or swollen), but would have been preferred to use a metal hard line with some short sections of the braided hose to connect to the metal lines. Much easier to run the rubber lines, but you lose some durability.
