For all Prince fans, here's a bit of little known trivia about this song .....While delivering his speech prior to the induction of the Funk collective known as Parliament-Funkadelic into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in May 1997, Prince explained that "Erotic City" was recorded directly after seeing Parliament-Funkadelic at the Beverly Theatre in Los Angeles in 1983. So this legendary song was inspired by one legendary group to another all time legendary artist. Prince was not only great. he studied the greats.

You're right I watched that a lil while ago. To me he was the combination of many greats before him....Sly, James , Joni Mitchell , EWF and a few others. However his gifts superseded them all.(my opinion) then he was clever enough to paint it all purple, such a genius. He put a lot of other people on as well. He never got in anybody's way. @@chippy7745 the weeknd is quite creative so that surprises as well as disappoints me as there is so much he could learn from him to elevate him self even further to where he would not have to be complaining about awards and just be happy making quality music. I
I think the Weeknd is/was more a micheal Jackson fan to be fair to him; which is understandable as he is not a musician in the same way Prince was so probably never felt that same energy/kinship. But he should have recognised the genius/Jedi in Prince and should have taken on board what was happening. This has made me question weather he will ever really touch greatness as if you can’t see or haven’t studied the geniuses like Prince you will never really get to that next level.
That is how the next generation think to be fair; nothing before nothing after me in public and in private hence the poor quality of creative output that has no chance of being something in Nv that carries over time.
It is real sad the next run will be forgotten but the purple legend is one thing that will never die. Just check out the connections to the genius

Brown Mark is absolutely killing his simple yet powerful bassline. Awesome integration of all the members and their musical genius. I know for a fact the other planets are rocking out to this Beautiful One's sound emanating from this planet. UNREAL. The ONLY one I experience this phenomenon with. I mean, does it really matter? Taylor Swift has put out some pretty catchy stuff, and plenty of people obviously appreciate what she's doing. On the other hand, Prince put out some absolutely awful stuff at certain points and many people never appreciated even his best. Personally I think Prince was a genius, and certainly in his own league when it came to live performance, but what's the point in shitting on others to prove the point?
