Same thing here. I can't remember how many times he came to Montreal, even doing last minute shows at the Jazz Festival in very small venues that even the festival organizers were not expecting. I always thought there would be another chance to see him. I was wrong and I regret it deeply.
I'm angry about this too. Gone WAY too young. I thought Prince was smarter than to be felled by the opioid crisis. He had anything he needed to avoid it/overcome it, yet in the end, he was just like every other victim.
My favorite times with Prince were always during rehearsals. It’s a bit hard to tell here but he took them very seriously, giving detailed instructions to band, engineers, virtually anyone who needed them. And they would tell you now, every comment was carefully considered, constructive, and whenever necessary - private; the sort of feedback we all wish for. It’s painful to accept that it’s all in the past now.
Watching a group of musicians groove together with the precision of a Swiss watch while still improve here and there - it doesn’t get better than this. Teary eyes. Miss you Prince and your ability to gel a group like that.
I know a couple of musicians who played with Prince. They both needed a month off at the end of the tour to recover. Daily rehearsals, plus sound checks almost as long as the gigs, the show, post gig meeting to iron out mistakes, late night after show party jam session, travel, same next day.
@zivkovicable Prince had an insane work ethic.. but that probably made him one of the bests artists. On the other hand it makes you wonder did he ever sleep while touring?

@@Cormac-jd2kx maybe thats because it s with NPG that he started to incorporate a bit of rap and hiphop but still prince-style. guess it s love or hate with some songs but in general he was still just releasing great songs like get off cream , I really like thunder and live for love. and always thought his keyboard player is cool and badass early 90s. I did not like Rosie too much though especially when he let her singing by herself ... fortunately his shows were over 2 hours so that made up for it

Right after that, you can see TDK standing up and dancing and it almost immediately cuts to them sitting down with P jumping over them. There have been TV performances where Michael B has talked about them being forced to play with a track, but his drumming is always in sync with the way he played during the recording. Using a piece of the footage where Mike’s hitting the snare and pairing it with that particular part of the song was obviously an oversight by whoever edited the footage. Why would they be playing with a track during a soundcheck anyway? 😂😂😂😂
Rehearsals are more important than the gig. A band gets to see what they've got and where they're at, before getting the audience involved with their show. You might be disappointed if you saw more shows, thinking they're all the same.
@@johnwattdotcathis is a sound check. And it's to get the sound levels right, nothing else. Bands hate doing it. Hence why prince changed the worlds at the start of the video.
@@barrymore87 Every band I was in liked doing sound checks. That's then you got to show off for the venue and get the goodies happening right away, or convince the owner you've still got the gig. And sound checks let you play around with your equipment, if you want to. I can tell you're not a musician.
prince was such a tight band leader they all kept their eyes on him awaiting his signals . i would of love 2 have been in that band soaking up the energy and the greatness of prince
Just imagine the amazing memories these band members look back on when they remember Prince. The only thing those band members might've preferred, at that time, is just a little more sleep. Prince probably only slept three hours each day. He lived and breathed music. I bet it was hard for the rest of the band to keep up with him at times.
Same with James Brown's bands. If ya' didn't do it exactly as James envisioned it, or your creases weren't tight, etc, it was gonna cost you...maybe even your JOB!!
There was NOTHING this man couldn't do. He played every instrument at a high level, amazing voice, incredible dancer, wrote beautiful songs. Prince is probably the only musician to master every single aspect of music
@@LocoArtif it's anything like the superbowl this particular sound check/rehearsal easily could have been 10 minutes, depending what day, the Olympics and Super Bowl have such tight schedules to get everything together.
@5:25 I got a glimpse of PRINCE father several times but this is clearly the best viewing. 💯% PRINCE ROGERS NELSON dad "JOHN NELSON" on the side of stage during PRINCE rehearsal. Dressed in a white long sleeve shirt with grey colored pants on.
I saw him in concert in Toronto with my very best friend, and we had an amazing time! What a fantastic, class act! He deserves the praise, and the admiration that he gets and beyond!
Prince was,is and will always be the epitome of an artist ... Excellent multi instrumentalist, producer ,dancer, performer/singer...all coupled with tones of taste and aesthetics .

All those people. I have always tripped on some folks can go to a concert & not even have one thought in their heads that shows they appreciate all the work that goes into putting on a show. Especially those like Prince where everything has to go smooth. The man is one of the greatest of all time Of the rare, his artistry so versatile, so dynamic. Most life times don't get to witness the life of a legend, i feel so lucky, i'm 56, i got to witness two, Prince "from 1978" & the only other i have seen that's of the rare & dynamic Grace VanderWaal

Man - he was so great. I saw him live at an aftershow party (LoveSexy) in ’88 Hamburg (Germany). After the stadium concert was shut down a little too soon, because of complaints from neighborhood, there were rumors, that he could be on stage secretly somewhere in the city in a small location. I was at the right place at the right time. My god he smashed everything I have ever witnessed. Musically and Performance. Wow!!! He was so shy and impressive in the same time. I still can’t believe, that he did a full stadium performance and then played all night long in this club until the morning. I was a fan before but after this, I was fully baptized and I am still. IT WAS MAGIC! One of the shiniest diamonds in my memories.

Watching this I was really taken back to 1991. How much the world has changed since then. The greatness of this band has not changed.
Consummate professional. EVERY SINGLE TIME I played with him. So few artists took his craft this seriously. That’s what made him a joy to work with.
