Lonesome Dove is my favorite book of all time, I first read it when it won the Pulitzer, and I read it once a year since. Adventure, heartache, humor, it has everything including one of the best characters ever written, Gus.
Yoooo! I followed you back on TikTok before I stopped using it in order to read more. Happy to see you on this platform as well! Thank you algorithm gods.
Piranesi is outstanding, the first few pages threw me through a loop trying to understand what was going on and figuring out the setting but I was completely sucked into the world shortly after, loved t&t&t and A Little Life is currently sitting on my shelf waiting to be read, now I want to read it even more.
I looooved Piranesi! It's one of those frustrating things where it's so good because it's so unlike every other book, but after you read it you immediately want to read more books just like it. The only other book that felt kind of similar to me was The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey. It's completely different from Piranesi in plot, genre, etc - but it has a similar mystical feel and the setting is a character of its own.
I read Looking for Alaska when I was in middle school and it’s one of the main reasons I fell in love with books. I was a bad kid and the only teacher that ever like me gifted me a copy with a nice little note inside. I’m in my 30’s now I still have the book somewhere.
Soo cool, i've read piranesi and frankenstein aswell last year, loved them. Tommorow tommorow and tommorow still on the shelf though, excited to read it after your review
Piranesi was a favorite for me in 2022. Definitely a vibe. Her book Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is also wonderful. Ah, Lonesome Dove is one of my favorite books. I re-read it this year and was amazed (again) at how good it is.
yes, the way you explained killers of the flower moon is 1000% the way I was railroaded by The Wager this last weekend! Im afraid I now have unrealistic expectations for nonfiction now. (the wager was my first historical nonfiction that Ive actually completed)
May I suggest Unbroken by Laura Hillenbran. I haven't read David Grann yet (both of these on my list to get to ASAP) but I can say from experience that Unbroken is pretty amazing nonfiction.
Blake Crouch. You're thinking of the Wayward Pines series. It was made into a TV special series several years back. Haven't read the books yet but I plan to.
A devastating chapter!? I’m still not healed from the “Red Wedding” chapter 😂. Wayward Pines series is awesome, definitely check it out. The show was surprisingly decent too!
I enjoyed the start of Piranesi, and loved the end, but the middle dragged for me, but I think because the format didn’t really click for me (I’m not keen on non-traditional formats, such as journal entries, reports, letters etc). I appreciated the themes in it though.
I loved Piranesi, and im currently reading Dark Matter and The Wager. Frankenstein was a great book i read it years ago so i definitely need to re-read it, and Lonesome dove is in my to be read list. 😊
I read The Lost City of Z by David Grann which I really enjoyed, but looking forward to reading more of his books, although I had no idea he did Killers of the Flower Moon
Subscribed - we have so many faves in common. Dark Matter was amazing - you need to read Recursion too from the same author. You might also like John Marrs.
Oh also ... I would recommend The Case Against Satan by Ray Russell. It was published like 9 or 10 years before William Peter Blatty's book and is considered to be like the original Exorcist. Since you like The Exorcist, I'm curious what you would think about The Cast Against Satan.
I’ve been trying to rack my brain over multiple videos, but is that Morbid Stuff in the background? If so, that’s awesome! Also I very much love your videos and have watched everyone of them in the past week!
I Would love to see a list on what you have planned to read this year! I also got into reading about a year ago and I have enjoyed your channel so much! You do a great job!
Is that an Orange Crush amplifier in the background? I have that same size one myself! Also it made me so happy that the Exorcist is one of your comfort movies. Glad you also enjoyed the book immensely as well. Perfect book, perfect movie. Also since you really liked the Wager for the adventure and survival, if you haven't read it yet I highly recommend The Terror by Dan Simmons. If you haven't looked into it before, Simmons researches the hell out of a real life expedition in the 1840's that was conducted to find the northwest passage but the ships became icebound and all the crew either died or were never found, then Simmons wrote the novel to add in horror and supernatural stuff and give a fictionalized imagining of what happened. It is a compelling and beautifully written novel.
A Little Life destroyed me. I have never been a big SciFi reader but I really enjoy Blake Crouch novels. If you want to read a fantastic SciFi book I would highly recommend Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, who wrote The Martian.
Have you read The Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown? I actually listened to the youth adaptation audiobook and loved it! I loved it so much that I bought 2 copies of the book. Thank you for you review. I’m wanting now to read Lonesome Dove ( watched the movie years ago…), The Wadger, Piranesi. 📚
I read Looking For Alaska and I didn't get it. It was a book I had to read for school, too. I honestly don't get it. I didn't love it at all but everyone around me liked it. I was surprised to like Killing Mr. Griffin. It's a YA but I really appreciated it as an adult. Anyway, great list. Thanks for sharing.
If you want a book that will rip your heart out, make you smile, challenge your imagination and it is a work of art in places read Maps of our Spectacular Bodies by Maddie Mortimer,. I felt like I had been put through a cheese grater at the end, totally raw breathless abdcrying without realising. I read it in 2022 and it still sits with me.
Hey, I've been thinking, and I can't remember if it is this video where you ask for romance recommendations, but I want to recommend it to you regardless. You should please read "The Time Travelers Wife." Honestly, I love this book with my whole ass heart. I get this whole punk rock feeling, and don't watch the movie before, because it can not compare. Anyway, I hope you take a chance and tell me what you think.
Just recently read the yellow wall paper and loved it! Dark matter wasn’t for me looking back. But I actually rated it 4.25. I confuse myself sometimes. lol. I remember it felt like a movie. But it wasn’t long after I told someone about it and was like “I didn’t like it”. lol shrug Piranesi was so good as well. It took me forever to start it cause everyone kept talking about how confusing it is. Enjoyed so much more than her other book! Lonesome dove is popping up all over the place lately! I kinda wanna know what you think of “I’m thinking of ending things” the audio, specifically.
Thats funny haha. I've done that a few times as well where I rate a book really highly right after reading it and then as the months go by I think back and sometimes almost forget what the book was even about.
Have you done any reviews on the dark tower series? I want to get into it, but I’ve read the first couple chapters of the gunslinger multiple times and just find myself confused every time!
To Paradise was good, but to me, her first novel ‘The People in the Trees’ (her first novel) is much better. I would recommend this much more, especially if you weren’t deterred by the feelings you got while reading A Little Life. I read TPITT before A Little Life and it completely sold me on her as a writer. It’s also a much more approachable length 😄
You saying you read 46 books in 2023 made me feel so much better. Because that sounds like something I could achieve….then I realize it’s march and I’m on 4 😂
If you want to dabble into scifi iv been reading the Red Rising Saga that is amazing so far. Otherwise Roadside Picnic is a favourite of mine and is a pretty short read
"Talking right? We are already at 11 minutes...I suck at this." You freaking kill me! You have been a really fun follow you do not suck at this!!! Ive been making a list based on your list!!! Go read the rest of John Green's books and he has a brother named Hank Green who has 2 books as well!!
Youaresick. Also, I tried reading Frankenstein via audiobook, and I couldn’t get into it. I am going to have to try reading the physical copy, because everyone agrees it’s a great book.

I'd say you definitely need to be in the right mood for a little life but yeah, I absolutely loved it!
I completely agree with you about banned book lists! I just have to read them to know...why!?? lol. Another great list. So glad I found your channel.
I looooved Piranesi! It's one of those frustrating things where it's so good because it's so unlike every other book, but after you read it you immediately want to read more books just like it.

I've read 8 of these and firmly agree with your opinions so now I trust you and will read every other one on this list. Thanks! 🎉

Blake Crouch. You're thinking of the Wayward Pines series. It was made into a TV special series several years back. Haven't read the books yet but I plan to.
Good reviews - Nice variety. 📚
I would recommend To Paradise on audio. It’s fantastically narrated!
I couldn't believe how much Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow made me cry. I do know that chapter you are talking about, and it was devistating.
Wayward Pines! I'm currently reading those, I just finished Book 2 and I'm really liking them.

My favourite new UA-cam channel of all time. You have a gift Nick ❤
Blake Crouch is great. The Wayward Pines trilogy is awesome, but my favorite by him so far has to be Recursion.

I will for sure do that! Still kinda mapping out the ones I for sure want to crush this year and as soon as I have that figured out I'll share!
I’ve read all but two and one of those is on my tbr!

It is an orange crush! I love it so much - haha. The Terror sounds SO good! I'd not heard of that one before but I'll definitely be on the lookout!

The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurtry is a great standalone novel and a very quick read.
You had me at McMurtry
Gotta read Recursion by Blake Crouch too - AMAZING
Oooo yes I keep hearing that one is pretty incredible

Yes, sooo good. Maybe a story about friendship too. If you're wanting to try SF, start with this.

Advising people to buy a book just because you said so is quite arrogant. I doubt very much that The Yellow Wallpaper is for everyone.
