So so happy I found your channel!
Now because I don’t consider myself a novice my ego does not allow me to agree with absolutely everything but I ALWAYS learn something from every one of your videos.
    Thanks so much!

Hi Gary, thank you so much for making this video, as a newbie I applied the nd filter then finally got focus lock, then took the photo and wondered why it looked so bad! I now realise after watching this that you take a "normal" exposure, THEN add the nd then switch to manual focus, then adjust the SS, all thanks to watching this brilliant video. Top man, a very grateful beginner.

Every single week you deliver and give tips on perfecting our Photography.
I am sat at work and watched the vlog as I couldn't wait to get home to watch it. During the symmetry section I'm sitting here saying to myself Gary go left a bit, no left a bit more lol.
But ofcourse when you produced the final photo the symmetry was bang on. "Never in doubt 😉"
I can watch your work for hours I'm forever thankful and appreciative of the content you continue to provide us members with every week.
I think when times are back to normal and travel is permitted I'd like to one day book one of your courses to put into practice what I have picked up from yourself. And also ask about other areas I am not as confident with.
Always willing to learn and who better to learn from whether that be via watching your vlogs or out in the field.
Much appreciated as always Gary. Beautiful images might I add even though the weather was not as you'd have liked.

Gary what a great educational blog. I love the photos and especially those of the pier. Looking at the picture, your mind wanders away. Ideal for a psychotherapeutic room at the psychiatrist or wherever. Your technical story with the practical images SUPER. This way we see what you do and that is very educational. Even if you think you know and are able to do everything, it is always a pity to look at someone else as well. Always educational.

Now Goughy, great tutorial as always buddy. I really enjoy your methods of teaching. I got my first 35mm SLR camera back in the early eights and I’m still crap!! I believe at least some of this is down to workflow (or lack there of) in my case. I think I get myself far too bamboozled by camera settings and buggering about in menus etc. So much so, I actually forget about the basics like subject, comp and focus!
I suppose I’ll have to keep trying and wasting my time, money and effort!

Paying close attention to the date, I initially watched with some scepticism. 😂
Seriously, I love the fist composition. The contrast between the very colourful pebbles and the almost monochrome remainder of the scene appeals to me and demonstrates that you can almost always fine an image even in the mos unpromising lighting (e.g. as in this, no detail in the sky).
The combined three image of the pier is very dramatic. Your presentation and explanation of the exposure triangle is very clear and should help beginners in the art. Thanks for another excellent video production.

Gary, I also use a 5DSR. I predominantly shoot landscapes and use FlexiZone AF, 1-Point AF, Evaluative Metering and One-Shot AF.
Can I assign settings for shooting wildlife (BIF) to let’s say one of the C modes so I can quickly switch over? If so would you recommend AI Servo, etc?
Wasn’t sure if this was possible and then when in switch back to manual if camera settings would return to what I normally shoot at.
    Thank you.

    • @Adrian_Finn
      @Adrian_Finn 3 роки тому +1

using an exposure calculator, He knew that when he had an exposure of 1/8th of a second he would need to expose for 2 minutes to get a perfect exposure when he put the 10 stop filter in front of his lens, because most cameras only go up to 30 sec shutter speed, he put the camera into "bulb" mode which allows you to keep the shutter open as long as you want. To do this effectively, he used a timer (intervalometer) a device that plugs into the side of the camera, it can be set to keep shutter open for any desired time, in his case, 2 minutes.
