  • In this video entitled, Improve your Woodland Photography today, 2 great ideas!, I'm setting two challenges which guarantee better woodland images.
I think that anyone who is struggling to capture great woodland photographs will definitely benefit from watching this video. I have created this video in two separate halves. The first half is a very different approach to woodland photography. The second is a great way of showing off your images.
I hope you enjoy the video

Love this, I have always loved photography but it has been mostly point and shoot. Now I am getting serious and I am in the USA and live in Tennessee where we have a lot of woodlands. So far it is my favorite landscape. Because here we have woodland everywhere. Thanks so much for all this great information. Love your channel.

  • @efg7557

There are many potential images not taken because we don't spend enough time looking at the possibilities. Adding the triptich gives us another opportunity to create something interesting from something that alone may have been seen as mundane. Very useful, thanks.

Where I live all is chaos. Nature is a slob without park rangers, gardeners, or grounds keepers to tidy her. Chaos is mostly what I've been shooting for years. No one understands it. It's not the norm to come away with, and display the ugly child. I'm happy landscape photographers are finally speaking up about the subject. Keep in mind there are many of us that don't even have 'large' bits of chaos. I often have to capture small bits - close ups. There are many levels to enjoying a day out in local country messes.

Good idea the triptic! Thanks! It will give me more reason to get out in the rain. I was deter from it because it is next to impossible to find a perfect subject worth one image in that time, but if you join a few in a balanced texture set then it is worth the viewer 2 sec of his time!! Thanks again!! Good job!

  • @kensalome483
    @kensalome483 3 роки тому +1

Yeah! Finally someone who embraces the chaos! Life can be messy, complicated and chaotic. Shallow DOF - background becomes texture. Nice.
Ironic that you talked about looking - I just emailed a fellow photographer this - "Does this happen to you? Something grabs your visual attention. Really grabs your attention. It screams at you. The screaming visual calms down if you spend enough time looking at the scene. Then, suddenly, the more subtle stuff pops and becomes as pronounced as the screaming demons. The real shot, the one that says you, is in the subtle subject."

Great stuff, Gary. I think if one good thing came out of this COVID times for us photographer has been the appreciation of our local areas. I enjoyed that, woodland chaos I think I have been shooting that a lot lately and I love it, since lockdown I have been shooting local for 12 months now but because the law is so strict here I have only managed to get out with a camera about 5 times but I have taken plenty of pictures to play around with when I get home! Although I have been a photographer for a long time I have spent little time taking pictures in in woodland and I am really enjoying it, I only started my woodland photography last summer so watching videos like this really helps. We are now in the middle of another lockdown and I obey all the rules and stay indoors I have now had my 2 vaccinations and I feel a lot safer and I am looking forward to going out again. I found your video most interesting and thank you for putting it on here. I liked all the pictures you put on here and one or two are close to ones that I have taken so I know I am on the right track. Thank you.

Hi Gary, the very first thing you did in this video was fit a filter, I presume it was a polariser, but you didn't mention it, and I would have thought it is probably a key element in these photographs. Great images and brilliant compositions. I love your attitude and pleasant nature. Thank you, I learn a lot from your channel.

Great vLog Gary. As a professional photographer, I like the way you portray your thoughts good or bad and the idea that not everyone, even professionals go out and capture the best shot without even trying every time. However that said the ones you captured in the woods are stunning and I cant wait for part 2 for this vLog. Hey Gary,
    Just finished watching this Vlog.
Your images were stunning. It just goes to show what can be achieved if we give a place some time as well as consideration as to how our final image should look.
I must admit, you certainly have an eye 👀 for a photo, but what seems to capture my attention week in week out is how you manage to tell the story of your shot with your photo/video reels.
Your vlogs and presentation of images/videos are excellent. The atmospheric background music choices are always very fitting to the surroundings.
I never get fed up learning from you and gaining more knowledge on techniques/set up and approach.

Absolutely brilliant video Gary! You are so right about missing compositions when I watch my vlogs back I see so many that I think 'WHY DIDN'T I SEE THAT!😭😭' Love the pictures you got and looking forward to the next one! It's keeping me going in this lock down, thank you 👍

Several local forests near my home also have moss-covered trees that appear chaotic, but I so want to shoot them. Your advice on this video taught me how to approach such a scene and try harder to work with what is available. Very useful and inspirational video as your many others. Thank you!

Another way of learning to spot compositions, particularly when shooting locally, is to take a range of shots with the widest angle lens you have. Take them home and then, at you leisure, use the crop tool in your post processing software to zoom in to highlight areas you feel would make strong images. Then you can return later with a telephoto to get high resolution copies of your favourite compositions.

Great vlog that really caught my attention. I have always struggled to get interesting woodland shots due to facing a wall of green! I'll try and approach it differently now. Thank you Gary!

Interesting vlog Gary - like the idea of making something out of the chaos. Sometimes you can't see the wood from the trees but you provided some good composition ideas there. I think woodland photography does need patience but the results can be really interesting.
