The Ford Galaxie is a full-sized car that was built in the United States by Ford for model years 1959 through 1974. The name was used for the top models in Ford's full-size range from 1958 until 1961, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race. In 1958, a concept car was introduced called "la Galaxie" which incorporated the headlights into pods inline with the grille and a reduced front profile.[2]
For 1962, all full-size Fords wore the Galaxie badge, with "500" and "500/XL" denoting the higher series. The Galaxie 500/LTD was introduced for 1965 followed by the Galaxie 500 7-Litre for 1966. The Galaxie 500 prefix was dropped from the LTD in 1966, and from the XL in 1967;[3] however, the basic series structuring levels were maintained. The "regular" Galaxie 500 continued below the LTD as Ford's mid-level full-size model from 1965 until its demise at the end of the 1974 model year.[4]: 401-42
The Galaxie was the competitor to the high-volume full sized Chevrolet Impala[5] and the Plymouth Belvedere.
Model year 1964 was the fourth and final year of this body style. Interior trim was altered, and the exterior featured a more sculpted look which was actually designed to make the car more aerodynamic for NASCAR. The formal-roof "boxtop" style was no longer available, all non-wagon models now featuring the "fastback" roof design that was the runaway best-seller in 1963. The base 300 was replaced by a line of Custom and Custom 500 models. The 289 continued as the base V8 and was standard in the XL series. XL models got new thin-shell bucket seats with chrome trim. Federal regulations now required lap-style safety belts for both front outboard occupants. The ignition switch was moved from the left side of the steering column, to the right, but otherwise the attractive instrument panel remained unchanged from '63. The 1964 XL two-door hardtop became the best seller of any XL produced in any year.
The 427 cu in (7.0 L) engine was used in 50 lightweight fiberglass-equipped cars for drag racing. These competed in North America but were still too heavy and Ford introduced the lightweight Fairlane Thunderbolt.
The Ford Country Squire station wagon, while wearing "Country Squire" badging, was actually part of the Galaxie 500 line. Some Country Squires had "Galaxie 500" badging on the glovebox indicating the series name. These station wagons featured the same trims as Galaxie 500s, and were a step up from the base-model Country Sedan.
You are correct Mr. Hpiguy! These are fictitious interpretations of modified oval track cars, and should be finished however the builder pleases. As for the complainers, nobody is forcing them to buy this series of kits. Like a lot of other folks, I personally think they're great, have purchased them all, and encourage Round 2 to continue making all of the old AMT reissues available to us! Bottom line is that it's a hobby - enjoy it! 😊😊😊😊
Need to come back out with the GTO! Only one missing in the re-released series.
Exactly! When you buy a kit, regardless of what the kit is, it's your kit! Build it the way you want!!!!
These cars were very similar to the dirt late model race car was at that time except for the stick tires there was a company in the late 1970's that had a soft tire that had tread very similar to a dirt racing tire . The modified series of race cars were mostly ten year old cars that may or may not have been a Winston cup car . But in the southern states it was very common in 1970 for the sportsman or limited late model race cars to have huge tire some manufacturers were MARSH Hoosher Firestone and several other small companies I still have a few of the homemade split wheels used for winding garden hose onto
I might use the interior and front bumper/grill to use with the craftsman 64 Galaxie kit and make a NASCAR type stocker out of it
Awesome mate, don’t worry about the imbeciles who complain, your videos are fantastic mate👍👍👍👍
Hope you had a great Thanksgiving yesterday Cris
Another badass modified stocker! I have the other four and I totally love the over sized tires! That's what makes them cool!
Built these kits as a kid when they were first released. So thankful for Round 2 for starting to release them again. Are they basic, easy to build kits? Yep sure are, fun too. People complain about the size of the tires and them not being the correct size. I well remember when they raced those big tires, called them "humpers". As soon as my Galaxie gets here, I'll have them all in my in my stash to be built.
I’ve been waiting for this to come out; It’s one of the modifieds I missed buying years ago. Nice build Chris!
This was very interesting. I would like more like this.
Nice build 😀😅
Very nice build of the kit. I really like they are continuing this series. All of these models are great. I really wish Round 2 would put those tires and rims in a parts pack. We need extra tires and rims to put on a hauler or trailer for these models. Thanks for sharing.
I definitely agree also with extra parts rims and such 😊😊😊
I always thought the '64 Galaxie was the best looking Ford of the sixties. This model is slick.
Looks great Chris. Very cool color...was not expecting "celery" hehehe
45 seconds in and I’m already laughing. This is a great build and shows new tips and techniques. Thanks.
And then, blasphemy! Using your fingers on the decals! Old school. Love it.
P.S. Forget the haters.
Glad you enjoyed!
On the tires on these cars I round off the shoulder of the tires a bit and it makes a big difference in the look as for realistic!
The huge tire seemed to be an east coast thing on that class of car.
I love them Fubar decals!!!!....😁👍
That's a beauty. One for my stash.
Very cool 😎 Chris. You always do a great paint job.
Nice built ! I love these Stockers
Now I'm gonna have to buy one just for those gas cans and the decal sheet
I love it!!! Thank you for sharing and your comments at the end are absolutely spot on.
These kits are cool! Remins me of going to Saugus Speedway back in the day with my dad. These can built anyway. Going to get one. Nice build, thanks for sharing.
Happy Holidays to you!
Now you're talking my neighborhood. I grew up in Sylmar. Then to Newhall then Valencia and Canyon Country when I married. My brother has lived in Saugus for about 30 years. I have a picture my wife took of me wheeling the Brad Gattie Supermodified back to our pit after a trophy dash win. I wasn't the driver. I was a fabricator and the tire guy on the team.
Thank you for the enjoyable built looks amazing 👏
1964 - my last year of Public School. The '64 Galaxie was the best looking car that year. To see it as a track racer is IMPRESSIVE. Thanks for the build.
Nice job. Gotta add this one to the stash.
Thanks for all your great videos! Knowing that you like the Blues Brothers, I’ll say that wire screen pad printed on the windshield reminds me of the chicken wire in front of the stage at “ Bob’s Country Bunker” !
"We've got both kinds of music, Country AND Western."
@@hpiguy “ No , the power was turned off on purpose! “ ( Blue Lou)
@@hpiguy Maybe some day Round 2 will reissue the ‘74 Dodge police car and we can say as trooper Daniel or Mount ( not sure which one is which) did “ I don’t believe it! It’s that shit box Dodge again! “
Great job! I love these kits. I’ve built 4 in military markings. Like you say… it’s my model😊
Excellent job Chris
Great work, Chris.
You should do sheriff roscos cop car one day
But the intro was funny how you said i don't have to hold parts while a i yell at you for holding the flashlight in the wrong position like how your dad used to
Ordering this kit right now. Thanks for the build and review.
I first built this kit in 2007 as a “Fireball” Roberts tribute car from the AMT/Ertl/RC re-issue kit.
I’m glad to see that Round2 has opened up a few more sprues to give us more of the custom parts from the original AMT annual kit offering from 1964. Thumbs up! I’ll definitely be picking up one of these kits.
I hope you had a great Thanksgiving.
Great video Chris keep em coming and I'll keep watching
Thanks as always Bob!
I would love this model kit
It’s an awesome build
I had no interest in this kit until I saw you build it, Chris! Now I’m going to add it to the stash of other kits that are never going to get built, lol. I love that you put on blue Danube in your video.
I've built a few of these Modified Stockers ( new and original) . The re-makes are better quality IMO. There a lot of fun because you can do whatever you want..Thanks.
Amen brother 🙏!!
Looks good, thanks for another fun build
Glad you like it!
Love these kits
Looks great as always an thanks for your time in making us another great video 👍👍
One for the algorithm.
Haha, appreciated!
Great looking build👍 looks ready to race👍😎
Thanks 👍
Great build ! I agree, the Mod Stockers is being improved with each release. My first (and least fav) was the Buick. Next i got the Falcon (i really enjoyed building). Now i have all the rest (except this Galaxie), yet to be built. I always enjoy your interpretations of these.
Looks great Chris! Thanks for the video on this holiday weekend! It’s much appreciated. Thanks Round 2 for another modified stocker. Nice windshield detail 😎👍
Any time!
Hey, great job is always thank you so much. Keep it up. I hope you had a wonderful thanksgiving
Thanks, you too!
Thank you so much for doing one of these kits. We race these local around me on h&r slot car 4.5" wheelbase chassis (hardbody class). They are a blast and look so cool, its awesome to see one fully detailed.
that looks nice
Thank you!
Chris, yet another great build, I've been watching and subscribed since 2020.
I hope you get to 100k subs soon, you deserve it.
Thank you very much!
Another winner Chris!! Wonderful color combination and decal choices. I have an assembled Ford six cylinder waiting in the wings. This would be perfect for my build of this kit. Great presentation!presentation
Love the Saturday builds. What I enjoy most is that you really seem to enjoy doing these videos, Chris. That is one of those reasons these videos are so much fun. Can't wait to see you do the Millennium Falcon. I've got mine built with the base color laid down. I'm curious to see how you paint your version of Mr. Solo's ship.
I do, this is still a hobby for me and I make sure to enjoy my time with it. :) Thanks!
If the Goodyear haters want to get rid of the printing on the tires they can simply rub a black Sharpie over the letters. Presto! Gone! But really...who would want to?😆
Rock on Chris!
Pirrelli supremacists? 😂
randomnickify- or the Hoosier daddies😂😁😉
Another nice build I get a lot of inspiration from watching your videos keep them coming happy holidays
Another car to "get it!" list😂, so far managed to buy the 65' Ford Fairlane
By far you're the favorite, love you channel. I watch all your builds, pick up techniques. By the way, Is the final episof the Dodge Charger Fast & Furious Going to make it an appearance. I've been following along.
Oh man I hate when they mold the rear axle and exhaust in the gto one you did is a great detailed kit
Hey Chris this would look great with the Racers Wedge PS Hope you had a Great Thanksgiving 😊
I like the color you have chosen and some of the fine details in this model, like that pad printed net on the windshield. Is there another '64 Galaxie model or models out at present, given the extra parts like the convertible top boot and stock caps and different grilles?
Man I absolutely love these kits. I built an older release of this one a few months ago. The new version is way better! The decals, the window screen. I love it!!
Out in California in 60's we had a beer called Brew 102 ( don't know if it was nationwide ), it was terrible
I miss the music while you paint too.
Way cool build where can I get this kit
nice build--interesting that a lot of stock and custom parts were included in this issue--have an original issue thats in storage and if I remember correctly (will have to dig it out to make sure) the chassis doesnt have the stock exhausts--
👍🏁🏁👍
Did you make that sanding block or buy it from someplace I like that
Sanding sponge you can get them at hardware and big box stores, all different grits too!
Looking for that kit
Wouldn't it be cool if the tires ( which are cool as is ) had tread on them? ( it would give Cleetus better grip )
Fortunately AMT preserved the factory stock Galaxie and it's currently available...
What is the sharpie marker you use for the chrome trim?
Where did you find kit
What is a model you haven’t built that you are really looking foward to?
Did you do the 66 Chevy Impala if so does it have a windshield I never got one in my kit
Absolutely incredible build Chris! Hope you and the family had a terrific Thanksgiving! I've been taking notice to the past couple of videos that you have been using Krylon Black Primer. Do you like it better than Rustoleum?
To me 🏁 races cars got wider tires
Yup
If you want a more detailed chassis. Go for the AMT hmmm...I forget ...60 or 61 Ford Galaxie.
Hi I have a question not related to this video, what glue do you use to glue your windshields? Gerry
I use Gloss Mod Podge to attach glass. Dries fast, can be wiped off easily if smeared. Doesn't melt clear parts or paint.
thank you @@hpiguy
Can you build a factory original out of this? Just kidding 😂
