Hey Boss, need to get this out. Most importantly, whatta say thank U for the channel. What I forget (like many others) is that U do reviews & build out of box. U promote having fun by building to suit individuals own taste. U point out possible issues w/ a positive intent. Been chomping @ the bit for this car! Again, many thanx 👍👍
Thanks a lot! I also build fast and simple, not for shows or 'perfection', but instead, I build how the average hobby modeler who doesn't make kits their life builds in a two day rainy weekend after seeing a kit in a store and thinking "I'll try one of those!" I want average folks out to just have a good time see what they can get out of the box with about 6-8 hours of total work over two days.
love the old stockers saturday night fun under the lights used to have a dirt track where i grew up demolition derby on fridays my cousin raced for many years in 1973 he won the sportsman classic in daytona 😁🤩scooter d
Chris: thanks for reviewing the "trees" before your assembly. I was angry at first when I discovered no engine support base on my parts tree that held the firewall, et al,..., until I remembered your advice from a previous build: "this is MODEL building ...!". So I cut off a scrap piece of plastic from another tree and scratch-made another engine support of my own for this build ! Thanks for keeping me focused, Big Guy !!
Very cool build. The nail head Buick came in several sizes but the only one that had real performance was the 401 with the factory 2×4 carb it made 425 hp.
The 401 was never offered with a 2x4 setup, the 425 version from the Riviera Gran Sport and the big cars had that option. It does however find itself on a lot of 401s. I am always in search of one myself for my 65 Gran Sport.
Back in the sixties they raced cars like this but they put duels on the right side and an undersized wheel on left side. Then they put slicks on the rear. With speed up in the turns the left tire was always a foot in the air ! 😂. Great build . 🇨🇦
I've built 2 of the original kits and 1 re-make . The re-makes are better than the originals. The new kits have better tires , glass...and decals. They aren't great kits ..but are a lot of fun. The Super Stockers are fun kits too. . I wish they made a Mustang and Camero. Oh, I found some music wire ( like they used to use for RC ) is great for metal axels if you need another size . Thanks for sharing Chris .
I love this line of kits. So much fun. And the rivet counters don’t have a leg to stand on when you build one of these. Those duct numbers are even more fun. Great idea round 2
I built this kit when it first was released about 1973. Thought it was very cool as there was two short tracks within about 20 miles from my house that I went to often! Both paved tracks and, yes, the super stockers had really big tires back in the day. One of the tracks,Spanaway speedway, was replaced by a housing development. But the other , South Sound Speedway, is still around and post video every week on UA-cam!
Really nice color blue. The car came out spectacular. I've learned a lot from your channel. Mainly how not to sweat the small stuff. And of course the friendly reminder to build for you which is always inspiring to say the least. Oh and thanks for taking the time to show us the paints you're using. Appreciate it.
Remember those nice protected side panels you made for the '66 Impala Modified Stocker that you said you were saving? Well, the body of this Modified Stocker Buick is similar to that Chevy. Perfect place for them to reside !
I live a few miles away from an old southern dirt track, and they really do use tires like this for some classes. Same with duct tape numbers! These kits are great in that you can do anything you want to them. New, old, clean, dirty, wild crazy colors or flames. Turn it into a demolition derby car or figure 8 racer, or maybe the Mad Max route. Or just use them to experiment with different techniques with weathering dents and rust. They are a great break from the pretty shelf queens lol
I've got a Buick modified stocker on order right now. Can't wait to get it! Built them all when I was a kid and they were released for the first time. I hope to build them all again.
Nice job on the modified stocker! Love those tires, looks like a roller skate. Fun stuff. Thanks for the review. Glad to see Round2 took out the chassis detail for a more accurate stock car. Great job on build Chris 😎
Great job, Chris! These kits were always cool. I just wish they didn't have to cut up the original 3in1 kits to produce these. Would love to have the 66 Skylark back in pure stock form. Thanks for letting me vent!
I heard he takes them out back and uses them as land speed record setters with solid fuel model rocket motors, that's why he uses extra glue and that rustoleum paint so it don't chip or break apart, haha I'm just joking around I love the channel and when I like something I gotta make jokes 😂
Regarding engine colors; being modified stock cars what you say is true about the engine may having come from any other vehicle that would mate up. Plus, being a race car at some point that engine was pulled and rebuilt and what a perfect time to repaint it your team colors, right? When I restored a '69 VW bus I painted the engine bay and tin shrouding to match the exterior of the vehicle and redid the block in the OG semi-gloss black. Unless you're building a specific auto like one of Petty's cars or wanting to make a 'factory fresh' example there is no limit to your color palette.
Very nice looking build. Love the ease of putting those kits together. I just bought the Monte Carlo one for my stash. I figure I will end up buying several of them. Good work. The kit is really cool. Thanks for sharing.
These kits are simple, but a lot of fun to build. I’ve got a couple of them, and plan on doing more. You can accessorize them, and make ‘em look great!
I always wondered how these Modified Stocker kits would look with the Super Stocker tires, as those are some of the nicest tires I've ever seen in a model kit
Just some engines that were in most Buick's 215, 360, 430, and 465 some had 455. In the 1965 Skylark was a 225-cid V-6 that pumped out a sedate 155 horses. Somewhere light green some light blue some chevy orange because GMC got in trouble for not having mixed motors in their cars
before amt switched to the modified stocker, they issued a standard 66 buick skylark gs kit for one year. these annual kits are rare and expensive. i see people paying crazy money for incomplete junkyard kits.
A LOT OF THOSE CARS RAN A 289 TO A 35O , BUT I HAVE NEVER IN ALL OF OUR YEAR'S OF DIRT TRACK RACING , HAVE SEEN A WINDSHIELD OR A SIDE MIRROR ON A MODIFIED , A SPRINT CAR , AN IMCA STREET STOCK , etc , , , , , ,
Want to know one of the reasons you have trouble finding those old cars you love? Take a look at this class of circle track cars. Tri-5 chevys, Malibu/Chevelles and many more were pulled from junk yards and following the rules (wink, wink) raced. This leaves with mixed feelings. Feel bad for the car getting hammered and beaten to death or smile knowing another hellraiser went out doing what they were built for. Great channel Chris, just had a rant moment, and I'm done.
I remember building this kit back in the 60's as an annual 3 in 1 kit. Unfortunately, AMT ruined the molds when they made the Modified Stocker series in the late 70's or early 80's! I guess they figured they wouldn't be using the molds anymore.
Being from Wisconsin I still remember dick trickle's number 99 69 Mustang stock car, and AMT used to that model, if you have any pull with the guys at AMT see if he can get them to bring it back please
As far as the ENGINE ( motors are electric ... internal Combustion ENGINE ) is concerned ... you can never believe the box art , the plastic inside doesn’t remotely resemble the box art

A nother great build looks fantastic be looking for the next great build thanks
Great job - love the back stories you give them, makes the whole build more fun.
🏁Such a fun build!🏁

Wow. I built this kit back around 1970! Cool stuff.
I love this line of kits. So much fun. And the rivet counters don’t have a leg to stand on when you build one of these. Those duct numbers are even more fun. Great idea round 2
Glad you like them!
Hey Chris, the NAILHEAD came in 264cu in
322cu in.364cu in.401 cu in.425 cu in., so you can have several engine sizes! Nailhead was a definite BADASS!
Looks great ! I make up stories as well. Have a great weekend !!!

Those old stock cars were simple and easy to find and build. And tons of fun on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Cool! I love the duct tape decals.

Idk if anybody has told you yet but that should be the buick 401 nailhead. I love this content man
always enjoy the stories u put with these///the owner did this or that!
Nice.great job.cheers
I love those tires. I wish someone who carry them so you could buy extra sets
Cool as always.
Love the "home built" effect you've done on this one, and the way the decals were done in this kit make it even more convincing.
your a outstanding model builder but will watch your video tomorrow ok
Awesome build Chris! That sucker looks mean!
Nice build BECAUSE iof the dents. Thanks...
You all way make it look easy, you made my day.
Nice job on the modified stocker! Love those tires, looks like a roller skate. Fun stuff. Thanks for the review. Glad to see Round2 took out the chassis detail for a more accurate stock car. Great job on build Chris 😎
I would love to see the Toronto stocker back out
Sweet build 🤙🏼
Fun build and presentation Chris!! These modified stockers were very popular in the 70's, I've build all nine of them!
Great job, Chris! These kits were always cool. I just wish they didn't have to cut up the original 3in1 kits to produce these. Would love to have the 66 Skylark back in pure stock form. Thanks for letting me vent!
You make me want to build another one. Besides, the Olds stocker needs something to race!
Great job
The way you crank out models, you must have a lot of room to display them all. Would be fun to see them all together.
I heard he takes them out back and uses them as land speed record setters with solid fuel model rocket motors, that's why he uses extra glue and that rustoleum paint so it don't chip or break apart, haha I'm just joking around I love the channel and when I like something I gotta make jokes 😂
He gives most away, and puts others in storage.
Yay!

Cool color on that car great video Chris 😊
Thank you for what you do! Your reviews/unboxing are top notch!
Great video Chris keep em coming and I'll keep watching.
Brilliant build mate👍
Nice build Chris! Love those modified stockers; built a bunch of them when they first came out.
Very nice looking build. Love the ease of putting those kits together. I just bought the Monte Carlo one for my stash. I figure I will end up buying several of them. Good work. The kit is really cool. Thanks for sharing.
~good classic car build as another great job becomes finished~keep it up~

Really nice

Rosie red mascot good guy
Another awesome build I am so hopeful you are gonna build the Zack Knowlden asphalt modified
Love building these kits your build looks great

I have to hope AMT does a straight stock version, I have a 1:1 but it's a 4-door HT.
Doesn't look like this kit has a stock option.
1966 skylark had options 300 2 or four barrel the 340 and the last year for the nail heads it does look like the nail head
44 years of professional racing I yet go see a stock car with Chrome.
But other than that, it was a nice build
before amt switched to the modified stocker, they issued a standard 66 buick skylark gs kit for one year. these annual kits are rare and expensive. i see people paying crazy money for incomplete junkyard kits.
Nailheads were touquise, last year was 1966. 67's were 400 and 430 for fulsize buicks
Looks like a nailhead engine, maybe 401, and man what they did to those cool kits to make then into stock cars, I guess haha
It's a 401, 425 was only in the fullsize riviera, wildcat gransport models
Dont know a lot about buick v8s but i do know they rated them by torque numbers instead of cubic inches probably a 425 maybe
A LOT OF THOSE CARS RAN A 289 TO A 35O , BUT
I HAVE NEVER IN ALL OF OUR YEAR'S OF DIRT TRACK
RACING , HAVE SEEN A WINDSHIELD OR A SIDE MIRROR
ON A MODIFIED , A SPRINT CAR , AN IMCA STREET STOCK ,
etc , , , , , ,
It looks like a Buick Nail head v8
The engine looks to be a 401 or 425 they called them nailhead . Tommy Ivo was big on using them in drag racing.
