The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1978 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The "Super Sport" versions were produced through the 1973 model year and Lagunas from 1973 through to 1976.[1]
After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964.
The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall.
From 1964 through 1969, GM of Canada sold a modified version of the Chevelle that included a Pontiac-style grille and a LeMans instrument panel, marketed as the Beaumont.
The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model through 1972 and completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate starting with the redesigned and downsized 1978 model year.
The Chevelle SS 396 became a series of its own in 1966 with series/style numbers 13817 and 13867. SS396 sport coupes and convertibles used the same Malibu sport coupe and convertible bodies with reinforced frames and revised front suspension: higher-rate springs, recalibrated shocks, and thicker front stabilizer bar, but with different exterior trim. They also had simulated hood scoops, red-stripe tires, and bright trim moldings. The engines included three 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8s - the standard, rated at 325 hp (242 kW), an optional 360 hp (270 kW), and an optional 375 hp (280 kW) (the mid-horsepower 396 was rated at 360 hp (270 kW) for 1966 and 350 hp (260 kW) thereafter). The SS 396 series lasted from 1966 through 1968 before being relegated to an option package in 1969. The 1966 and 1967 model years were the only two years of the 'strut back' 2-door sport coupe with its own style number, 17.
1966 readying for my visit to Vietnam, one of the "guys" had a brand new SS 396 Chevelle that his new bride's family bought them as a wedding gift. I got several rides in it. I still remember the thrill of acceleration and burning rubber. The guy didn't make it back. Your build is spot on. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for your Service.
May God Almighty Keep Him Always and Thank You For Your Service and Personal Sacrifices For This Great Nation and My Personal Freedom, Amen and Amen 🙏🙏 Gary Parker.
Excellent build and video!
Little bit of a challenge do like the color awesome kit
that body colour is gorgeous.
66 is my favorite year
That is a sweet little Chevelle. Thanks for the build.
Nice classic car great job on the body color 😊
Actually Chris, I believe the reason the fan blades are spaced is so the fan doesn,'t roar, love this CHEVELLE,great build, Chris!!
I’d heard that also.
The irregular spacing makes it run quieter.
Who would have guessed.
I loved these model cars. I’m from that era. I use to buy Revelle car kits. I had a collection of several or more cars in my dresser. Loved these! Brings back old memories. Thanks 😊
I don't build kits anymore, I just don't have the patience, I've probably smashed more kits then I built, they just make me loose my mind, but I do like watching these build videos, and plus they have become so expensive, by the time you buy the kit, the paint, the glue, any sanding pads, it has become an expensive hobby for me, so now I just watch builds witch I find very satisfying so thank you for posting and building.
Is this the old Lindberg casting? Really nice color for that car.
It is. Great model to build
I want this kit! I might build it as a gasser, but it would be cool to build it stock, but lowered a bit, and some Crager ss wheels. Oh yeah, I love the color, I guess I missed the can info when I was watching.
Very cool kit .
You build is perfect like always .
That steering wheel looks good .
Nice 👍
Great directions and info .
Mike
Very nice build. Great color choice and assembly of the kit. Thanks for sharing.
I built this one a while back!
I did just as you did but I painted mine red!
It is a nice build!
I was worried about the steering column underneath the hood and now I remember what kit it was from the 61 Impala!
So take note if you build the 61 Impala do not add the steering column on to the fire wall until you get the body on the the assembly frame and interior!
Nice build! I enjoyed it!
Beautiful build as always!
A very nice former Lindberg kit now wearing the AMT logo. It is a good kit that goes together well. You did a great job on your version Chris.
Got this for Christmas. I'm not building it, just leaving on the shelf for display. I have a real one. Mine is Ermine white with a light blue interior. Great kit for a great car.
Really liked the detail on this AMT! Rivals Revell! Great car and of course, great skills there!
I can remember building this kit years ago. I always liked when they had the Valve train details in the heads. I could remember building it with the valve cover laying on the fender. I wish all kits included under the hood decals. Battery decals, caution decals, all of that make such a difference under the hood
Nicely built Chris! This kit was really fun to build, I agree the final of the body fit to interior/chassis is a bit of a struggle, but the end result is excellent! 👍 1:08:09 1:08:09
Awesome Job Chris. The Color is a bit cooler and more refreshing than a Typical Black or Red.
Nice 66 Chevelle, I like how the box looks vintage
~looks so real in larger human scale~great job indeed~😀
I noticed with the Molotov Chrome pen (brilliant thing) that it needs to be left to dry for at least a few days or touching the finish with your fingers dulls the chrome finish. Nice build though, never used future floor polish as a laquer. Always use acrylic clear spray tins, may give the polish a try over clear? Those AMT kits are very expensive here in the UK, equivalent of 70 to 80 US dollars over here.
Even though it's not one of my favorite modeling subjects I always enjoy building a kit with good fit and finish qualities. I think this one will be on my radar. Wonderful tutorial as always Chris, and thanks for the many valuable tips you share with us on each video. God bless!
Great work! I don't always understand your color choices, and that's okay. You, Sir, are an artist!
Chris. I love watching you use different brands of common spray paint instead of high priced Testor / Model Master series paints. More often, you use the Rust-oleum painters Touch 2X. These are available at Walmart. I recently got back into modeling primarily due to you videos, tips and techniques that I never did. I am doing Snowman's truck and trailer from the movie Smokey and the Bandit. I didn't use 2X primer on the truck body (used a premium model primer) but I did use the 2X Gloss Black on all the truck body parts. I found the 2X Gloss Black to be easily scratched by my fingers and leaves imprints even after 3 days of hardening. The paint didn't adversely react with the primer. Do you find at times the 2X paints do this? I still have the trailer to build and I will use the 2X Flat Black primer and then the 2X Gloss Black. I feel I need to do a clear coat on the truck before continuing, I will use 2X clear coat of course. I just don't want to be forced to use the expensive model paint's. It's a bag of worms, but what are your thoughts? I know you talk about environment and the paint temp. I did paint these in a bit cooler temperatures, in my work-shed during the day and then brought the parts inside. I'll try to find and review your vids but anything helps for your opinion!
Cheers!
Earl
Now I want to build this kit based on Steve Earle’s song Sweet Little 66. “She got a yellow front fender and a gray one on the back / But my income tax is comin' and I'm gonna paint her black…”
Looks awesome, I built a couple of these when I was a kid... cool!
Very nice Chris!
SSWWEEEETT 66 Chris 🏆🏆🏆🏆 Thanks For Sharing n Have a Blessed Wknd Ahead Brother 🤗 Gary.
Nicely done as usual Chris.
Another great build by HPI Guy, well done! 👍🏼
Once again another great build of a lovely subject. In terms of the warp you noticed in the body, why do these things tend to show up after you've done a really nice paint job and you're ready to get it all wrapped up? I had a similar dilemma a year ago when I built Revell's Smokey and the Bandit Firebird.
Great build as all way you make look easy
Very nice Chevelle Brother!
Looks good sir!
Cool as always. 👍
Hp always love your stuff 🎉
Great kit! I'm working on my second one right now actually!!! Nice build up again!!
Chris. I would like to ask a sort of personal question. All these models you've built. Do you keep them? Or give them away? If you keep them, any chance of showing a collection "en masse"? Thank you. Nice work👍.
Just getting back into the hobby after 35 years. I'm curious why you use Glosscote over flat black instead of using gloss black?
Nice build! I've often wondered, what do you do with all those build ups?
Me: Not another Chevelle!
HPIGuys: Antique Bronze!
Me: Take My Money!!!!!
hahahahah! Thanks!
Chris. You mention about putting the body into a dehydrating booth (@ 58:57) in the vid. Is that after it's painted, plus most of us don't have that. I know you say it at the end of all builds that you use Future Floor polish. I really want to try that and I know I seen you demonstrate it, but can't find the vid. Do you know what video that was in?
Cheers!
Earl
👍👍👍👍
I have a lindberg and a AMT and the AMT kit has a bad twist in the body and the lindberg body is fine
Please next explain the washing of parts
I bought this kit for my dad’s retirement. What kind of paint and glue do you recommend I include?
Not bad
the wheels were ok but felt they could of added more
Great build as always. What kind of brush on glue do you use, I have tried Tamiya, but never seems to hold the way yours does, thanks.
I believe he uses bondene. That’s what I use and the brushes look similar.
He uses Plastruct Bondene. He poured it into another bottle that's less likely to tip over than the Bondene bottle.
Vous utilisez quel chrome svp? Merci ça sera pour mes motos.quel chrome conseillez vous? Merci
What glue was used
What's the body color
I didn't get it first time..
What kind of paint brushes do u use
I used to only use premium Testors model brushes from the hobby store. Chris shows that it really doesn't matter unless you need a very fine brush. Several of my brushes come from those Dollar store watercolour sets!.. LOL
Cheers!
Earl

Hey-dar fellow cheddar head 🧀 long time watcher, first time commenter 😊 I've been watching your channel for some time now, I finally figured out how to send messages through my fire stick. I follow over 90 model builders and if I ever want to see a kit review/build you are the first I punch up. You give great reviews. (MODEL CAR)(MAN CAVE)
Очень красивая модель. Молодец!
