    A man states he read that 5% minoxidil foam does not work as well as liquid minoxidil due to the different inactive ingredients used, and also because the foam does not penetrate as well. He wants to know if this is true.
    New York hair restoration specialist Amiya Prasad, M.D. reviews his concerns in this video, and explains how minoxidil foam was created as an alternative for people suffering from skin irritation due to liquid minoxidil, but results are comparable, and other treatments for hair loss as minoxidil is generally a limited treatment:
    1:32 - Dr. Prasad details his background training in cosmetic oculofacial plastic and reconstructive surgery, as well as his experience as a hair loss specialist and founder of TrichoStem™ Hair Regeneration Centers
    2:47 - Dr. Prasad explains the difficulty of establishing a clear-cut answer for product comparisons that involve different ingredient combinations
    3:43 - How the use of minoxidil came about, how the mechanism of how it works is still unclear, but it can help with scalp hair coverage
    4:22 - How minoxidil foam was created to address skin irritation issues from liquid minoxidil

    Hello Dr. I'm 32 and have had some temple recession but not past a Norwood 2. I recently went from 245 to 224 in about a month due to crash diety and lack of eating/emotional stess. Im finding thinning all over my scalp not following MPB. The thinning also happen very quickly, barely progressive. Roughly a span on 2 months and 2 months after losing the weight rappidly. Could this be Telogen effluvium? Also a side note. I drink something called Kratom that acts on the same receptors that opiats do, and its totally killed my apitite. I'm wondering if you have heard of it. It's rather big in FL, and ppl have reported hairloss from using it in high amounts. I would love a reply Dr. Thank you.

      Hi Puu RR!,
      Personally, I don't find low-level laser light therapy effective for treating pattern hair loss. They take a lot of time, and results are minimal, if any. Treatments like finasteride and Hair Regeneration are much more effective and convenient for patients. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hello Dr. Amiya
    I'm going to treat my hair with prp stem cells but it's not Extracellular Matrix (ECM) which known as Matristem "Acell" rather the cell extracted from the same body "my body" my question is: is this effective for hair growth as much as the product you use in your treatment?
    Thanks in advance

      Hi sebastian langley,
      Your DHT-sensitivity is likely pretty high if you started pattern hair loss at 23. Finasteride can slow the thinning by blocking DHT, but minoxidil has a more cosmetic, and less stabilizing effect on hair as it just delays normal hair shedding, and prolongs the growth cycle so there's more hair on the head. The effects of minoxidil can wane over time, and completely disappear if you discontinue using it. I believe finasteride is the better treatment between the two as it treats the cause more directly. If you want to thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair growth from dormant follicles, look in the Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    I need a hand, lm new using Rogaine foam, I got a 3 months treatment, I’m on the first can, and the first two weeks the foam was coming out normal, but now seems like doesn’t have enough pressure to shot the foam and all it come out is the liquid. I been applying this straight to my head, shooting little by little and being careful to not use more that the cap as the instructions say. Pls guys let me know if I’m doing something wrong 😑 or if this is normal thing to happen, but I’m confused 🤷🏽‍♂️ because it should be ok

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi Senu,
      Finasteride is more beneficial than minoxidil as it can slow down and stabilize hair thinning, and it can be used long-term more predictably. The minimum age I prescribe finasteride is 18, so it is a possibility for you, but finasteride is a prescription drug, so you need to see a doctor for a proper diagnosis before taking it. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      HI Aaron Dodson,
      We do have patients coming every day from around the world to the US for the Hair Regeneration treatment.Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the New York or Virginia. Many patients actually get back on the plane or train, or drive back home the same day as treatment, but to be sure you could do this for a flight, I would assess your general health condition first. I hope this helps you.

      Hi Sharik Wani,
      Not everyone experiences shock loss, and it can happen at different times for people, especially if they are closer to their natural shedding phase. Shock loss is also dependent on how your transplant was performed. If you have any concerns, consult with your transplant surgeon as they know the details of your surgery. I hope this helps you.

      Hi edgar bodero,
      Minoxidil should not be diluted with water, and should be used as directed. If you have a problem with scalp irritation, you can consider foam instead of liquid. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Randix Lai,
      Your doctor should have prescribed a DHT-blocker before or after your transplant. Finasteride is more beneficial than minoxidil as it can slow down and stabilize hair thinning, and it can be used long-term more predictably. Also, you can use finasteride while still recovering from your transplant, while minoxidil will have to wait until your scabs have come off, and your scalp has healed. You can refer to these videos on why treatment is still needed after a hair transplant, and how our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients don't need to use minoxidil after our treatment:

    Im 25 I got a haircut 6 months ago because I noticed my thick curly hair started to thin out and have excessive hairfall but the hair was growing back in nicely but as the hair began to grow it also began to fall out ALOT along with scalp itching. The areas that seemed to itch were the areas that had hairfalling, is this because of dht?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому +1

      Hi John Delvalle,
      DHT will cause progressive hair thinning in men who have a scalp sensitivity to DHT, but it will not cause itching. DHT sensitivity may be affecting the regrowth of your hair after shedding or a haircut as male pattern hair loss can limit number of your potential hair regrowth cycles. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hi doctor! I have a few questions: applying minoxidil only at night works the same as twice a day? Finasteride may take until 1 year and a half to thick my hair? 17 alpha estradiol is a must-have drug to help reversing baldness? Have you ever heard about DS Laboratories seruns? They are great but very pricey. Thanks a million 🇧🇷👏👏😊

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому +3

      Hi Gabriel GT,
      Minoxidil can be applied once a day, but effects of minoxidil usually wane after some time, even if you use it daily. Finasteride may have a limited thickening of thinning hair in some men, but it's more for slowing down hair thinning. 17 alpha estradiol has a limited effect for pattern hair loss, and it won't reverse baldness as no new hair growth was seen in studies, as you can see here - www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7398983

      Hi@@Gab0000,
      I don't prescribe topical treatments for pattern hair loss. All our male and female TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients can stop or be weaned off minoxidil after the injection treatment. A large percentage of my male patients are prescribed oral finasteride since DHT is present in the bloodstream, and I find that the topical version is not effective in blocking DHT-formation in the bloodstream. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment lasts 3-5 years for most patients, with only 1-2 treatment sessions, and the few patients who get a second treatment get it done 15-24 months after the first. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому

      Hi Dhanraj,
      Procapil seems to be a supplement, not a drug, so its effects aren't exactly confirmed. However, even Procapil states that it can slow hair loss progression, but not prevent it altogether. We can manage pattern hair loss to increase hair coverage as much as possible, for as long as possible, but it can't be cured since it's hardwired into the DNA. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hello doctor. My hairs been thinning for the last 2 years and my density's gone down by a bit. It's not drastic but is noticeable. I was wondering if applying Minoxidil 5 foam once a day is enough or should I use it twice?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому

      Hi sashank urlam,
      Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. Applying it once a day is fine. If you want to treat thinning hair, you should see a doctor for a proper diagnosis and a possible prescription for finasteride. I do think finasteride is more beneficial than minoxidil as it can slow down and stabilize hair thinning, and it can be used long-term more predictably. If you want to stimulate hair growth from dormant hair follicles and thicken thinning hair, look into the TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment featured in the video. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi #Abay Mado : አባይ ማዶ,
      Sorry, but beard growth is not my area of focus. If minoxidil is irritating your skin, which is common, then try minoxidil foam that doesn't break the skin barrier with propylene glycol. I generally don't recommend dermarolling as it can be too aggressive if done at home, and the rolling action unnecessarily stretches the microholes in the skin. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Omkaresh Pali,
      Sorry to hear that. You may have a particularly high level of DHT-sensitivity in your scalp. Finasteride is a DHT-blocker which is meant to slow hair thinning. Your hair thinning may have been faster and more aggressive without it, so it doesn't mean it's not working. There are other factors in male pattern hair loss other than DHT, so you may need additional treatment. Hi Local boy creator,
      Sorry to hear about your problem, but minoxidil and topical finasteride for only 45 days will not stop pattern hair loss. DHT is present in the bloodstream, not just in the scalp, so oral finasteride is better at blocking DHT than topical finasteride. Minoxidil is more limited than finasteride. Pattern hair loss is a genetic condition hardwired into the DNA, so it can be managed, but not cured. You should see a doctor for a proper diagnosis, and a prescription for oral finasteride. Hi@@mko7680,
      Minoxidil doesn't thicken hair, and the permanent zone in the lower back of the scalp is genetically resistant to hair thinning. If hair grafts are taken outside of the permanent zone, which happens often with FUEs, then those hairs are prone to thinning. @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 років тому +1

      Hi wilbur,
      Sorry to hear about your problem. If you have pattern hair loss this early, you are highly DHT-sensitive, so you need a DHT-blocker like finasteride. PRP alone will not help you control your DHT-sensitivity that is leading to hair thinning, even with a more advanced treatment like Hair Regeneration. I suggest you see a different doctor as your GP may be limited in hair loss management. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD

      Hi Jobin,
      Usually, early onset of male pattern hair loss also corresponds with higher DHT-sensitivity, so hair loss progression is more aggressive and rapid. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Hello Sir, I have read that fenastride can mess with you testosterone levels, is that true? If so how bad? I also want to know that when you say minoxidals effectiveness fades with time, exactly after how much time??

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  2 роки тому

      Hi czxxclz xx,
      Finasteride does not interfere with testosterone levels. Finasteride inhibits the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This is why finasteride is referred to as a DHT-blocker. Men with a scalp sensitivity to DHT experience progressive hair thinning, so finasteride slows hair thinning. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      The difference in minoxidil foam is not containing propylene glycol, which helps break down the skin barrier for better absorption. Bald spots are not due to genetic pattern hair loss, which makes up most hair loss cases. Bald spots can be due to temporary shedding due to severe stress, or an autoimmune condition. Hi Manoj,
      We don't currently offer the treatment in India, but we do have many Indian patients coming to the US for treatment. Since it is a non-surgical treatment with little to no recovery time, and in many cases no additional treatment, you don't need an extended stay in the US. Many patients actually get back on the plane home the same day as treatment, but I don't recommend this for everyone as it is dependent on general health condition and age. Some patients with advanced hair loss may get a second treatment 15-24 months after the first, and results for international patients are monitored through Skype, FaceTime, or email follow up.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому

      Hi@@Xx-jk8sd,
      TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is a pattern hair loss/ androgenic alopecia treatment. Minoxidil does not treat androgenic alopecia directly as it just delays the hair shedding cycle, and prolongs the growth cycle, but has no effect on thinning hair as it doesn't thicken it, or slow progressive thinning. Also, the effects of minoxidil wane with time, so it's not a lifetime drug. If you are male, a DHT-blocker like finasteride is a lifetime drug to continually block DHT-formation.
      What is the hair regeneration treatment you describe? Our treatment used to be called Hair Regeneration, but now TrichoStem Hair Regeneration, and it lasts 3-5 years, with only 1-2 injection treatment sessions. If you watched the videos I sent you, you would have seen it lasts this long, and I show patient results after 4 and 5 years after a single treatment session.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  4 роки тому

      Hi@@aliberramov2127,
      TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is an injection treatment that can only be done in our offices in the US. If you are male and only 17, you are too young for treatment because you will need finasteride as part of your treatment plan, and I only prescribe finasteride to men starting at age 18. If you have male pattern hair loss starting in your 20s or younger, you are likely highly DHT-sensitive, and need a DHT-blocker like finasteride to control it, and slow hair thinning. The TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from dormant hair follicles, but it cannot block DHT-formation.
      TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is not a replacement for finasteride. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Lars,
      Finasteride is primarily for slowing hair thinning, so it's most likely working for you in slowing progressive hair loss, and you could be much worse without it. If you are expecting hair thickening, finasteride has a limited ability to do that, especially in men with high DHT-sensitivity. You can refer to this video on how we can thicken thinning hair, and increase scalp coverage in men who were already on finasteride for years - ua-cam.com/video/4YowPNRsv6I/v-deo.html

      Hi Shambe lovely,
      We don't currently offer the treatment in South Africa, but we do have many patients from around the continent coming to the US for treatment (under normal travel conditions).

    But when you start using it, you need to stay on it for life

      Hi Jeff Lol,
      It's unlikely that anyone can use minoxidil for life as its effects wane with time, although finasteride is a more predictable therapy for lifetime use as it continually blocks DHT-formation to slow progressive hair thinning. You can refer to these videos on the limitations of minoxidil, and why our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration patients can stop using minoxidil entirely after our injection treatment:

      Hi Metaldog 7,
      Thanks for your opinion, but my patients being treated for pattern hair loss prefer seeing a doctor with hair.
