    A 58-year-old man has slightly receding temples, but mostly good hair coverage. He recently began noticing thinning of his crown area, and he wants to know if minoxidil will work for him.
    New York hair restoration specialist Amiya Prasad, M.D. reviews his concerns in this video, and explains how minoxidil can work particularly well for crown thinning in later onset hair loss, but minoxidil’s effects are generally limited, and how finasteride combined with Hair Regeneration may work better for longer-lasting hair follicles and results:

    Hey Doc, I’m 29 and I’ve noticed thinning around my crown. I have no family history of hair loss so i was wondering what might be going on. I’ve done some reading about having clogged hair follicles and I have always had problems with build up on the scalp. Would much appreciate some help. Also I dont see any receding or thinning anywhere else.

      Hi Adam Hill,
      The genes for pattern hair loss can come from several generations from both sides of your family, so it is possible that you have them from a family member you’ve never even met. It is possible that it's only manifesting in the crown at the moment, but it may still progress. A scalp examination is needed to confirm the cause of your hair loss, but 95% of hair loss cases are genetic pattern hair loss. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Doc, I’m 17 however I have 2 crowns on my head, it looks like I’m going bold but I’m actually not, any advise on what to do?

      Hi HUZY R,
      If you don't have hair thinning, then I advise you do anything at all. A double crown is a natural occurrence for some people. I hope this helps you.

    Hi Doc, I heard vitiman B7 also helps while on these products. It's true?

      Hi The Gentleman,
      Vitamin B7 or biotin is good for hair health and growth. However, like minoxidil, it does not treat the genetic causes of hair thinning, nor do they thicken thinning hair.
      You can refer to these more recent videos on the factors of pattern hair loss in men, how we diagnose and treat male pattern hair loss, and how our patients can stop using minoxidil after our treatment:

    Does this mean that minoxidil is less effective in younger people with hair loss?
    Im 21yo male and have been using min + fin for 2 years, these have only slowed my loss, no regrowth.
    I haven't really lost my natural hairline, rather overall density across the top of my scalp has reduced.
    Thinking about a transplant..
    Thanks

      HI Milan,
      I do think finasteride is more beneficial than minoxidil as it can slow down hair thinning. Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but delays the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily.
      Hair transplants are generally not recommended for someone as young as you because you will lose hair faster than it can be transplanted. Expectations of hair density in people as young as you are also higher, and cannot be achieved by even multiple hair transplants. If you start hair transplants this early, you will still lose hair, and by the time you reach your 30s, you won't have a lot of density, and will have no hair grafts left in your donor area. I advise you do not get a hair transplant, but continue with finasteride to slow down hair thinning, and Hair Regeneration to reverse hair thinning so your hair becomes thicker, and stimulate growth of dormant hair follicles. I hope this clarifies things for you.

      Hi Aftab Khan,
      They are both safe to use at the same time. I actually made this video about this topic - ua-cam.com/video/S5ov40ZBpNo/v-deo.html

    Hi Doc, Am noticing thinning on my crown area and a little bit on my mid scalp. Am 28 yo. You recommend Minoxidil for such cases? From all that i have read, it seems like it works mostly only in cases like mine.

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  5 років тому

      Hi Sujith Rao,
      Minoxidil can treat thinning at the scalp and crown, but it doesn't treat the cause of hair thinning. Minoxidil won't thicken your hair, or stop hair loss, but it appears to delay the hair shedding cycle, and extends the hair growth cycle so you appear to have more hair on your head. You will have to use it daily to sustain these effects, but these effects can also decrease with time even if you use it daily. If you have male pattern hair loss, finasteride is a more effective treatment because it blocks DHT-formation, and can slow thinning hair. Our Hair Regeneration treatment can thicken thinning hair, and stimulate hair growth from dormant hair follicles, and patients can stop using minoxidil, but younger male patients with high DHT-sensitivity need to continue with finasteride after this treatment. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    If I use minoxidil the crown does not regrowth again used minoxidil for 5 to 6 months does a a one year I see the results

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  3 роки тому

      Hi Bernard Fenech,
      Minoxidil can be a limited treatment as it really just delays hair shedding, and prolongs the growth cycle so it appears you have more hair. Actual regrowth from minoxidil, especially in areas where hair is not growing, can be limited to just fine hair that doesn't grown long or thick. The crown hair growth featured in the video and thumbnail are from our TrichoStem Hair Regeneration treatment, which doesn't require minoxidil to be used after the injection treatment. You can refer to these videos on the limits of minoxidil, and how we have completely replaced it with our injection treatment:

    Doctor what is the meaning for hair generation??? hair plantation+ prp = hair plantation ?

    • @AmiyaPrasadMD
      @AmiyaPrasadMD  6 років тому +1

      Hi siva,Hair Regeneration is non-surgical treatment, so it does not have to involve a transplant. Hair Regeneration is extracellular matrix as the primary ingredient, and PRP is the activator only of extracellular matrix. Hair Regeneration is not the same as PRP alone. I hope this clarifies things for you.

    Sir I'm 18 , and I'm not maintaining good diet and its disturbing me a lot and diverting my focus from studies , I'm getting crown balding , its not visible out but its too worse when I observe it under light , almost the scale is visible sir , its reducing my confidence sir

      Hi Siddharth Gudlavalleti,
      Sorry to hear about your problem, but pattern hair loss, if you have it, is a genetic condition, not a nutritional one. You do need to have a proper examination by a doctor to confirm you have it. You can refer to this more recent video about the different factors of male pattern hair loss, and how they are treated - ua-cam.com/video/d0tddJt6OME/v-deo.html

      Hi@@siddharthgudlavalleti8404,
      As stated previously, you need to have your scalp properly examined by a doctor to determine the cause of your hair loss. I can't diagnose the cause without seeing your scalp. I hope this clarifies things for you.
