    In your clip there's a hermit crab walking towards Houdini. I bet ur boots he is heading to him for lunch. I saw this happen to my firefish. Hermits are evil they will attempt to peck at sick/injured fish. I wouldn't be surprised mate the hermits are doing that to him. Perhaps remove the hermit crabs? Sad to see. I lot most of my fish to velvet. Was so upsetting.

      Thanks Neil. That was my initial thought. Wish I would have just put him in the sump now 😔
      Sorry to hear about the velvet. This hobby can be cruel at times 😕

    Sorry for the loss Neil and RIP Houdini. I had a fish get eaten on me once when he got slightly sick and it was down to the hermit crab taking advantage of a slow moving meal. They will kill and eat anything they can get their nasty claws on. Unfortunately it’s not always pests they decide to clean up. Put them in your sump or get rid of them before they claim anymore of your fish. Keep your chin up though mate. The hobby is always full of ups and downs. Enjoy your wedding and then get back in to it

    Gutted for you Neil, so sorry to hear the sad news. I wasn't sure about having my Porcupine Puffer as my channel logo but went with it anyway as you said you never know and these things do happen in the hobby 😞

    I think it was the hermit crabs. But i did notice your sand grain size is huge. This type of fish is a sand sifter . If the grains are too big its painful to feed. He was probably weakend from not getting enough food through his gills and the hermit just took advantage.

    I think an idea would be to move the fish to the sump, at least it is away from other fish and pests. Won't work if it was a bacterial infection though, but an idea for future

      Just make sure you have a lid with no gaps and you keep the water as cool as you can. No hotter than 25 degrees. They really don’t like anything over that. Ideally they prefer early 20’s
      Good luck though. My favourite fish by a million miles

    There spirobid worms. There harmless filter feeders but if you high nutrient in your tank there population will explode…. You don’t have anything in your tank that would eat your jaw fish so there is only one explanation but can’t be certain unless I know more about your tank, just remember haw fish likes to move sand away to make his home.

    • @neilsreefaquarium9530

      Thanks Kevin. Do you think it was a bacterial infection?

    • @kevinclasher3160
      @kevinclasher3160 3 роки тому

      @@neilsreefaquarium9530 i doubt it would be a bacteria infection, as it would be much slower pace. Are your rocks resting on top of your sand? The spirobid worms build up in shaded areas and eventually will thrive into the back wall or higher up on the rocks but prefer to be in shaded areas. Eventually most of it will die off over years. I’ve tried everything possible to avoid them but they will eventually get into your tank in same way… they’ll be in your sump and on your pipes eventually.

    Looks like it had blue spotted jawfish disease aka brooklynella. I highly suggest you set up a quarantine tank/hospital tank for future reference.
