2018 RAM Big horn. Same problem. Only 3400 mi. on truck. Thanks Mike. Great video dude. I lucked out . I let my dealer know and they told me 99% of the time, its the 3rd break light. They replaced it for me the same day. My advisor told me that the new body style has back window leak problems ! Get with it FCA !!! Thanks again dude.

I had that same problem on my 2014 Ram 1500 Quad cab. I couldn't figure it out and I took it to the dealer. Luckily it was still under warrantee. The dealer told me that the leak is common after a third break light bulb change. The third break light requires silicone to seal the enclosure after the bulb has been changed. They put silicone around mine and I never had the leak again. Good Video.

Thanks! I live in PNW and bought a 2010 ram 3500. I don't drive it that much and the fall rains fell for a while before seeing my storage areas filled with water! I thought at first it was the rear slider and checked that out. No dice. Then we just had a wicked rain event that flooded the southern coast of BC big time and my truck continues to smell like a wet boot! I found a lot of moisture in my carpet in the back but the front feels dry after pulling the trim at the base of the doors. Hopefully I don't have to pull out all the seats to dry the carpet! I am going to reuse my light bvut put on new weather stripping that is better than the stock seal. That will just leak again too.
Got info on MD Building Products 19/32- inch x10 feet premium Auto and Marine Rubber Weather Strip Black. Available at Home Depot as a good fix for the seal replacement.

It will happen again soon. The neoprene seal breaks down with the heat, pressure and weather. You need to remove the neoprene seal and use butyl tape to make a water tight gasket around the third brake light before installation. P.S. You can use the original brake light and save yourself some money.

anyone getting ready to do this job, needs to read this first. ignore taking everything apart inside the truck. all you have to do is get a long 24" big screwdriver and push up on the old vent then gently pry the bottom snaps out and pull the old vent off. if you worry about the paint just wrap the screwdriver with tape. slide the new vent up into place using screwdriver to be sure the top end snap is in first, then snap in the bottom by pushing it in. it is not hard to do at all and i was able to do both of my vents in 5 minutes from start to finish.

Hello! I commented on another video of yours regarding the third break light. I took mine out today after it rained last night, and the gasket is dry, and there was no water inside the break light compartment, but my carpet was wet underneath the driver's side rear seat. I do have another break light on order, and I'll prolly do that trick with the zip tape that you have done in your other video. But I have light stains in the inside roof in the back, towards the corners. I'm beginning to believe that my leak is coming from those roof gaskets that go from the front to the back on each side of the roof by the doors. Have you ever heard of those gaskets leaking? Thanks man! Love your videos, good stuff.

    • @TunedRAMS

I did all the steps you did, I've replaced the 3rd brake light twice, first time it was leaking I replaced that fixed for a year then it started leaking from 3rd brake for the 2nd time so this time I bought another new 3rd brake light this time I put rtv silicone on the gasket to be sure this time that fixed it. Then 6 months later yet another leak that time it was the cab vents so I replaced then then here 8 months later I got yet another water leak an it not coming from either. At this point it has to be a window seal in the rear windows. It's very frustrating

My 2010 2500 filled the storage compartments (I had a subwoofer in one) after we had major rain storms in 2013. The stupid service guy told me it was the sunroof and they are meant to leak and the water is channeled out some how. Then they finally said it was the 3rd brake light and did a recall and put a new seal or used some kind a sealant on it. I had to replace the 3rd brake light bulb and it was a little tough to get off but then I just used silicone to seal it back up. Sometimes I thought it smelled musty but did not see water or if it got in and I could not tell. This is a problem for water getting and do any of the other manufactures have this issue or use something else to seal theirs?

Look in the description, zip tape solves the leaking problem a gasket will not solve the problem.

Clearly this is a manufacturers defect, have you discussed this with Ram Corporate? This needs to be addressed as the seal should not retain water.

Outrageous that we spend all this money buying these things, and Ram KNOWS about these issues, then they make us waste our time and money to fix their horrible design. Even now they offer an “extension” on the warranty for the 3rd light fix, but what about the two days Ram had my truck in their possession?
Not to mention I have a DIFFERENT leak in the front driver floorboard, that they “can’t” find. It needs to burn in their parking lot.

You’re not wrong my friend, unfortunately every other named brand has their issues as well. But they definitely should do more general recalls to fix the problems permanently!
