As RDX SH-AWD owner, the way that system puts the power to the wheels is awesome and incredibly efficient. Probably the best AWD system and really excels in snow as well.
That performance advantage becomes a disadvantage long term when the clutches in the rear differential wear out and will cost thousands to replace
@@ninevahkeith when you buy a luxury/performance vehicle there is awareness that they may be more expensive to maintain same goes for 4x4 or other features. If you're a Toyota basic car kind of guy you do you, but I'm fine with what I got. I most likely won't own the car for more than 10 years, if that. There are plenty of sh-awd out there and I don't hear about the rear diff being a major issue with older cars. Chicken little much?
@@ninevahkeith dude, there are tons of SH-AWD units out there with 200k+ that haven't needed replacement. Stop spreading FUD, the system is bulletproof.
i just wish RDX was a lot better with its mpg
@@robertadriansantos totally agree... That's the only thing that has me thinking about possible trading in for the Mazda CX-70 PHEV. We'll see. 🤪😝🤪
The 6 speed auto kills these Mazdas.
They’re geared and tuned for low end torque and drivability. In real world driving they are extremely pleasant and also much cheaper lmao
@@user-ts8ss9cj1p I have a 21 cx5 carbon turbo. I love it. If it had an 8 or 10 speed trans that shifted quicker it would be even better
@@ridenfish39 i basically got to long term demo a rav-4 with the 8 speed at my old job and it was so busy and confused the whole time not a fan. However a Mazda designed and built 8 speed? I’m listening :)
The Mazda is not made for speed ,which is why it makes so much tq ,but only 252hp
@@ridenfish39 also always love asking how many miles on that bad boy? I have a 16.5 2.5 with 125k currently buzzing around
Mazda should put 8-10 Speed with 2.5 turbo engine. That will be a killer combo.
All Acura needs to do is bring the Type S treatment to the RDX. Maybe put the 320hp Integra Type S engine under the hood paired with the 10 speed transmission? They'd sell a ton of them.
Yeah the engine that the TLX type S has would be great. Just worse mpg.
Normally carmakers will opt for an engine that makes more power at lower RPM for better drivability with larger vehicles.
Their talking type-r with the cr-v with 316 in 2025 so look for the RDX to have more then that in 2025 if that rumor is true with a type-s badge
The rdx already has the same engine and transmission from the accord 2.0t. with ktuner I'm sure it can hit close to 300hp
The engine in the Mazda behaves almost like a diesel that's why it have huge torque and shifts in such low rpm, since peak power is around 4.5krpm.
I was cross-shopping the RDX and the CX5 and got to test both thoroughly. At the end I got the Mazda because I couldn't justify the price difference and to be honest in city driving the vehicle have enough power.
Now, what makes the RDX perform better than the CX5 it's definitely the transmission, Mazda's 6 speed is very reliable but it hurts performance while the Acura just put everything to the ground.
Mazda also have an active AWD like the Acura that is amazing, both gives you the feeling the car is on rails .
Also safety and repair costs. I agree. Oh, and I appreciate a spare tire!
I test drove both back to back. RDX A-spec and CX5 Turbo Signature. I preferred the cx5. Leather seats felt more comfy in cx5, dashboard buttons felt better quality, more solid, tactile in CX5. And its far more affordable brand new. CX5 turbo did not feel slow at all actually, lots of torque. My current car is accord coupe v6 which does 5.7s to 60miles as a point of reference.
As well, road noise felt more controlled in the cx5 signature over the rdx in my opinion.
19:30 Resale value + reliability + practicality = RDX all day
Remember to factor in interest rate on that resale. It all comes down to how much take home money after the sale
If you take those 3 in consideration, I'll take the Lexus all day.
@@brolyvi1211but why?? The interest rate for the next person has nothing to do with you lol
@@thatone4G to remind you, I am referring to be first owners. it does affect the owner because while you finance these new cars you are paying more into interest.
И выглядит как какашка
Acura transmission is the difference! Mazda shifts slow and early when Acura shifts at redline and very quick!
I liked the Corsair with the 2.3t. Too bad Lincoln got rid of that powertrain option.
Yup it would be unbeatable with that combo!
Hello Sam,
I selected the Acura RDX for tuning because of its exceptional performance capabilities. With the KTuner and other bolt-ons, I was able to achieve a personal best of 13.8 seconds in the quarter-mile. My average was in the 14.3s
Thanks for another awesome video 📹
Best regards,
Chris Cormier
I decided to keep my low km 2013 3.7l V6 TL with bolt-ons rather than upgrade to a newer RDX. Also about to replace the ELS stereo head-unit for a new JVC touchscreen with custom made harness. Luv my 4th Gen. so much!
Nice. Before picking up my 21 TLX A-Spec, I was really on the fence on whether I should opt for the RDX instead. I also have Ktuner/Phearable stage 3 and PRL goodies as well. With both the RDX and my TLX 2.0T, I love that we can pretty much piggy back off the CTR and ITS when it comes to many performance mods. 😄
The Corsair was the most fuel efficient and so much quieter inside than the RDX- pretty fair trade off for only being fractions of a second slower.
The Mazda didn’t even start next to you in that 1st race like always Sam. 🤨
Hello Sam, thank you. Those honda engines are just unbeatable 😅
I'm curious as to why they didn't use Lexus nx as it's the direct competitor for the RDX and CX5?
The CX5 is not a competitor in this class, but you’re right about the NX being the direct competitor to the RDX. It’s also a direct competitor to the Lincoln in this video
@@drivescene6747Yes, Mazda is..🫤 the thing with Mazda is they’ve been what they are for years, but they’ve struggled with ties with Ford and Toyota. Every company has their obstacles, but Mazda isn’t without its current title as a competitor to these because of its hardships
Three loud sewing machine engine notes. This is a fun matchup, thanks! Looking at the tachometer shots, it looks like the CX5 is short shifting itself in the drag race in the lower gears.
It doesn’t make much power above that so it shifts early. Engine is tuned that way for better driveability and for around town
I was seeing the same thing that the Mazda wasn't getting up to redline. But I looked at the road tests from Motor Trend and see peak power redline is only 5k RPM so that appears to be where it is supposed to shift.
It doesn't make power above 5500 why keep going?
Yea, odd and complicated Mazda engineering, but they have their ways fs
Sam is would like to see you compare performance difference between Hyundai Tucson Hybrid HEV & PHEV Thanks Kenny!
As Honda Ridgeline owner that has a very similar AWD system to the Acuras, I agree it just hooks and books in the same type of weather. It is insane how well it moves in bad weather.
With all of that torque, I thought the Mazda would be faster, but it's a combination of HP, torque, transmission, and the type of tires as we know. This was an interesting race. Not sure why Acura didn't make RDX Type S. Sam, I can't believe you don't own an Acura yet.💪🏿😎
So easy too. Keep all the standard equipment and trans but give it the turbo6 or a stronger version of the Integra’s 2.0.
Mazda's aren't faster at anything
I've heard the rdx type S is coming
He handicapped the Mazda by the rolling race
An RDX Type S would be the best Type S in Acura’s lineup.
Acura SUVs are always good performers
For the price of the mazda, it is the real winner
It's the harmony of the engine and the transmission works together thst put the Accura ahead of the Mazda.
I was wondering if they are cutting power for traction. I think the Mazda may be doing that. The Acura seems to be the fastest once it's going, but the transmission takes a bit to kick down in the roll races.
When the video started, I expected the Mazda to win on weight advantage, and it has good torque. It seems like missing 4 gears makes a difference, and possibly too much trachtion control holding it back.
What kind of drag race is that where the rpm on Mazda didn’t pass 3k rpm when transmission is shifting to next gear !!!
the shawd is so sweet even in the first gen rdx it just hugs the road.. acura needs to do type s of the rdx already.. everything the same with the type r engine it will be nuts
The RDX does have the same 2.0 Type R engine but just detuned. You can unleash this engine with a ktuner. RDX type S needs the 3.0L turbo from the TLX type S and the MDX type S.
CX 5 owner all the way from S.A, those car's are meant for fun driving experience. Just put them on the high road and enjoy their fun high speed. Driving from stop to stop doesn't help any car engine 🤷🏾♀️
20 minute 15 second drag race..love it !!
Rdx is the best overall choice in the bunch cx5 if youre trying to save a few bucks
Also the mazda is "short shifting" because it doesnt make any power above 5500 lol these motor are all torque for daily driving
Yeah, with a turbo inlet pipe and a tune you can unlock quite a bit up top
From the CX-5 wheel it looks like it was struggling for grip in the wet. It has a relatively slow transmision compared to the other two.
The Mazda needs a new driver.
We ordered one on amazon 🤣
Mazdas always underperform
Mazda is always CREATED sucks engine under the hood 🙌
CX-5 TURBO > RDX
@@SwedeCT in dreamland probably
RDX 💪🔥🔥
I had no idea they still make Lincoln's 😮
Really the navigator is of the biggest suv on the road.
What?😂 Lincoln is everywhere.. basically a Corolla nowadays like Mercedes
Did they turn off the traction control on the mazda??doesnt seems so to me..i dont expect the mazda to have more top end speed ,bit it should of done better off the line imo
Just realized i been watching this channel w/out being subscribed. They just show up in my feed. Love the content, the production, and Sam is a great presenter.
Welcome aboard!
For that Lincoln to be the underdog here it sure does pull its weight my goodness 😂
I wonder if it's because on sport mode on the Lincoln it disabled the AWD?
SH-AWD is excellent, i love my MDX with Sh-awd. I smile every time i step on the gas and make it pass 80MPH..
Totally fun and very functional for every day driving
Worth mentioning that the CX5 is the smallest vehicle here and the RDX is the biggest.
Sam,
Do you reset the trip before the drive. I believe it's more accurate in gas mileage.
My 15 odyssey does 8.9 - 9.3 at 100 - 115 kph. That's with vcm not working.
First thing we do
No issues with the RDX infotainment. I like the touch pad
Yep. You get used to it over time.
I'm still driving my 2 019 rdx❤❤❤with sh-awd.. Good cuv. Love it❤❤❤❤
I absolutely love what Ford is doing with Lincoln now. The engines, design, interior. They will definitely be on the short list for my next vehicles.
My grandma agrees
@@romeropostali520I agree. Lincoln has some really nice underrated vehicles. As much as I like the 2.0 Ecoboost, the Corsair should get the 2.3 standard
Lincoln Corsair Lincoln Natilus Lincoln Aviator Lincoln Navigator. All Luxury Premium high performance heavily equipped with the lastest technology SUVs. The best Suv line up if you ask me.
With three otherwise very similar vehicles with similar power and weight, it all comes down to Acura’s AWD system being more sophisticated than the other two.
That's probably why the Lincoln averaged 30 mpg while the Acura also with a 2.0 turbo got 23 mpg
Looking forward to the Acura vs Audi / Lincoln vs Audi now 🎉
I’ve always loved the Acura MDX right from the first generation.
This is the RDX…. But I too like the MDX.
In the real world driving the Mazda is more relaxed with its massive low end torque. You don’t have to drive it like you stole it, as is being done here. I’d take the Mazda every day of the week even with the 6 speed, which is never hunting for the right gear.
This race just determined which car can get to the mall faster, lol
Sam great content again I love my RDX and the performance in the sport + mode in pull strong. Even it was last on fuel economy just drove to Florida it average 8.1 L 100km at 126 km/ hour great seat handling good.👏🇨🇦👍💪
Love Acura RDX long term use ❤❤
ok, how about hyundai santa cruz 2.5 turbo duel clutch awd vs. any of those.
Our 2020 RDX is fast, and the all wheel drive is excellent! I would always take an Acura or Mazda over the Lincoln for reliability reasons. Not to mention sporty handling.
2019 RDX Sport+ or Advanced trim in 2024 Model has super quick pick up and go. The advanced models are tuned differently than the other trims. The 2019 to 2021 were extremely fast/ quick suvs. Something about Acura Sport+
CX5 AWD, seems Mazda is the best bet. Driveability, and control is just the best
The honda 10 speed is what really setting those suv apart.Mazda really need a new transmission, their 6 speed is just old and slow.
I had a Mazda 6AT 2.5 at the same time as a Honda 10A 2.0 and honestly I preferred the Mazda for everything except 0-80MPH+ blasts. Less busy, smoother, and never confused/clunky.
I heard the 10 speed is jerky. Was that your experience?
@@dozie6650 yes some low speed clunkiness and hesitation at throttle transitions, like coasting and then accelerating in traffic or through a parking lot. We are on our 3rd Honda 10AT vehicle now, this ‘24 seems smoother, but tends to lug the motor a bunch.
Thank you for your insight. I appreciate it.
Both are solid transmissions anyways, cant really go wrong with either of them.
Apparently the difference of 64 pounds between the Lincoln and the Acura makes the Acura a “heavy beast”
It’s a small SUV in terms of body size and compares to the rest of them
@@SamCarLegion I don’t get how that changes what I just said lol. If you put a 7 year old in the Lincoln it is then considered a heavy beast apparently. That weight difference really doesn’t affect the performance noticeably
love lincoln
Less than 100 lb difference between Lincoln and Acura but the Lincoln is pretty light and the Acura is a heavy beast??
Is the CX-5 the turbo version?
That RDX is nice. That 10 speed transmission along w the SHAWD is what is pushing it ahead of both the cx-5 and the Lincoln
Hey Sam, it would be awesome if you could do a drag race featuring the 2024 Honda CR-V Hybrid, 2024 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, and the 2024 Kia Sportage Hybrid! It would be a great way to see how these fuel-efficient SUVs stack up in terms of acceleration.
This makes me regret selling my 22 RDX SHAWD 😢
Mazda is definitely the biggest disappointment. Weight/HP/Torque should be 1st place, no Zoom Zoom this time. I love RDX sport mode snappiness brings it alive ❤
The Ford Edge twin-turbocharged 2.7-liter V-6 engine that produces 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. This engine comes standard on the 2024 Ford Edge ST, $2K more the the Acura
I keep telling people Fords performance is the best. I had 2 Ecoboost titanium 4WD. Roasted everyone.
@@CraigNelson-lm9wyit's killer with the 8 speed.
The Mazda was shifting well below redline as if it wasn’t being floored. Each gear shifted at a different rpm. Some were around 4k. Don’t know what is going on here
That is how the transmission is programmed to shift. Mine does the same(22 turbo CX5). It’s tuned to take advantage of the low end torque, not the high end horsepower. I remember watching a video and they compared the low end power to diesel like, that is why they programmed the early shifts.
Sam, do you think you could line up a Integra Type S vs TLX Type S, just to see how well it does. Integra is about 1,000 lighter .
yep
@@SamCarLegion ready to see this one.
Just so you know, I should get more beside each other for the roll races bc it exaggerates whoever is starting behind to be slower than what the car can actually be going
Those Ecoboost have crazy torque steer even with AWD!
My vehicle has the 2.0 Ecoboost and 8 speed and yeah, it has some crazy torque that causes some torque steer.
@@kennetho5393 2WD or AWD?
@@KT_One AWD.
My Turbo cx-5 has significantly more torque and very little torque steer. My base model Focus SE had more torque steer with half the torque. Ford just needs to do better.
@@thebeetalls I've driven the CX-5 turbo and it doesn't have as much torque multiplication that goes to the wheels as an Ecoboost 2.0 4cyl 8 speed. 250 horsepower and 280 lb-ft of torque is a lot to manage. My first V8 Mustang was a 4.6 2v SOHC that made 260 horsepower and 302 lb-ft for comparison.
Many reviewers don't know or forget that for safety and better. Visibility Honda use more steel that others. Even though changing to glue bonding, Honda used nuts and bolts. Also i love infotainment and since 202, only seen traction control lights maybe twice and when awd system was down do to sensor which suv lights up tires and a handful if not expected
Love RDX size and looks but won't buy a 2.0T 4cyl. Hoping they will release a "Type S" with their new 3.0T V6 and update their ancient infotainment system.
This is a good race and good runs Sam
That Lincoln super isolated
Mazda's tachometer shows 3000 rpm, is that full engine rpm? 5.05 the time of video.
Anybody else notice mazda was shifting at 4000rpm
I've had my turbo cx-5 for a few months and it's very pleasant to drive around town. In most driving, it shifts very early so you barely hear the engine at all but when you do a full pull I think it sounds very nice for a stock 4 cylinder. The 6 speed and final drive ratio let it down in terms of speed and efficiency. An 8 speed would suit it much better, as would a couple more inches of rear legroom 😁.
Shame I don't like the cx-50, too much matte black plastic and worse seats.
I don’t know if you took this into account. But if you were following directly behind each other, the car in the front is gonna have the most drag on it, which is gonna impact the fuel economy. The other two drafting are gonna see an increased fuel economy because they are in the slipstream of the car ahead.
Unfortunately, you don't see many Lincolns on the road these days. Instead, Acura and Mazda seem to be more common.
The thing a lot of people don’t seem to appreciate about Lincoln Corsairs is that they aren’t built to put sheer performance first. The engines are competent, sure, but they’re also trying to toe the line between modern engine performance and traditional Lincoln luxury. The Corsair absolutely NAILS the latter. The interior is rock solid and luxurious asf…especially the seats! They’re fantastic!! They give the high-luxe brands like Land Rover a run for their money.
I’ve test driven both the CX-5 and the Corsair and I’ll take the Corsair any day for daily driving. Is the Corsair sporty? Meh. But Luxurious, quiet and competent? Absolutely with points to spare. My Corsair premiere is on order currently 😉
With 10 spd transmission why doesn’t the RDX get better mileage??
This is all stagged. I have personally smoked an Audi Q8 in the CX 5. NON Turbo. In sport mode the CX 5 is super fast.
SHOULD MENTION fuel type I would like to see if it makes a difference. I feel like I does. 87 octane vs 91 vs 93.. higher octane tends to deliver more oomph
Speaking as RDX owner
Ford performance is the bomb period. And remember guys this isn't the Lincoln Natilus. The RDX is a little out the other 2 class if you ask me. Ecoboost AWD is almost undefeated. You can look videos up.
For the price disparity, I'd take the Mazda over the RDX, so long as you didn't need the extra room. I have an RDX and the build quality is beyond disappointing. Rattles everywhere. Truly not a "premium" product.
The CX5 still made in Japan!
PLEASE DO ACURA TLX TYPE S VS BMW 540I XDRIVE
Is it me or is the CX-5 short shifting like a mofo!?
My 2023 RDX A-Spec is by far the most exciting car to drive and that is from many decades of Honda and Acura vehicle ownership. I expect only the NSX to surpass that experience. 😁
I know someone with the 19 rdx. He said the mileage is terrible and the build quality is bad .
I own a 2021 Corsair and I really love this car and has much better ride quality than the mazda
You should have run the Mazda against the Lincoln anyway.
Acura being the most expensive and highest HP, kind of expected this…
Wet pavement hurt the Lincoln. In dry conditions it would do better.

Reminds me of when Sam was getting walked in the Accord vs Type S race, and Sam's like "I'm catching him I'm catching him" while getting gapped.
I didn't understand that either lol
The Mazda had a slow reaction on race 1 so it doesn't count. In the 2nd race they left at the same time.
That Lincoln held it's own despite having the least power.
Mazda cx5 is the most beautiful among the three considering its not a luxury brand.
The Mazda driver was babying that car, it was shifting at 4- 5k?! That is lame.
Why is the Mazda shifting at 5.5k? Doesn't look like it's reaching redline..also the rpms looks to let off before the finish line..Was this staged?
Would be nice to see all three compete against the Audi Q5
