Hey guys, we will be doing a second part, but this time will get the Mazda CX90 PHEV which is supposed to be faster than the CX90 Turbo S based on some numbers I have seen. Stay tuned.
I think that would make more sense
Thanks
saw a CX90 challenge a BMW X5 - guys needed to races a more comparable model. looking forward to the CX90 PHEV . Thus try the full Gas version
This video didn’t even compare the Turbo S. You compared the base 280HP spec in this video.
Thats not the 340 HP cx90. That's the base model cx90. All turbo S models have the silver inline 6 badge and the 280 HP badges are all back like this one in the video. You ain't fooling no body!!!
The Mazda CX-90 you have is not the Turbo S with 340 hp. You have the 280 hp one. You can tell by the exterior. If you are going to use the top engine options for the Toyota GH and Ford Explorer, should have used the higher output Mazda or the PHEV which are quicker. The 340 hp 3.3 tuned engine does a 1/4 mile in 14.7 seconds according to many other car enthusiast. Still would have lost to the Toyota GH by 0.3 seconds, but would have been closer. The PHEV would have been even closer with a 14.5 seconds 1/4 mile run and 5.9 seconds to 60 and losing to the Toyota GH by 0.1 seconds in the 1/4 mile.
I am rebooking the PHEV again.
@@SamCarLegion clown
@@mbenton6lmao its still slow relax
Yeah, was gonna say that this CX-90 is clearly not the 340HP version. This needs to be done correctly.
This Mazda is 280 HP
And you confirmed that once you didn't show the rear.
Dude the MAzda disappointed you because you lied about the specs. Clearly you had the 280hp, SMH do better.
I've come to expect nothing more from this guy. So glad the comments section has some brains...
yes tht black badge
That is not the cx 90 turbo s the turbo s has colored fenders first of all and different badging
This is a 💩 video
Based on the badges and wheels the Mazda looks like a turbo gt which only has 280 bhp got to get the GT-P or the signature trim in Canada or any three versions of the turbo s in the states to get the full 340 hp
This Mazda trim has only 280 hp. A bit misleading, you have to use the turbo S premium plus for a fair comparison
Bro didn’t even know what Mazda he’s driving and the specs. The base CX-90, which you had, only has 280HP, NOT 340HP like you said. Least have your numbers and details right when doing comparisons.
I did have my numbers correct- I was booked in the wrong car. Btw they are exactly the same engines. Just tuned differently
@@SamCarLegionyou has thr 280 model and not the 340 model.
This is the cx90 base engine trim with 280hp model. The inline6 fender badge is black not chrome. The black interior also is for a base trim model
This Mazda has 280hp not fair
The mazda badge looks like its a 280hp only. Maybe im wrong. I dont think 340hp turbo s will be behind a grandh.
I think the Mazda only has 280 hp not 340
There's more than one version of the 3.3 on the cx90. The cx90 makes 280hp and the 3.3 hybrid makes 340, which is the one shown in the video.
@@Kevin-zx4ltno. There’s the base turbo that makes 280. Then there’s the turbo S which is 340, with premium (it’s like 318 with regular). Then there’s the PHEV. WHAT HE HAS THERE IS THE BASE TURBO (280)
@@locondcoco well he actually says in the video that he has the cx90 hybrid. It has 323 HP. Was he wrong? Yea. Was I wrong? Yea. It's still not 280hp
@@Kevin-zx4lt all CX90s are hybrids (mild vs plug in). In another comment he said it was the GT, which has the base engine.
YES. Only Turbo S (NOT shown in this video) claims 340 HP.
As expected The explorer is a rocket.,
He doesn’t even understand the difference between standard hybrid and mild hybrid.
That explorer is crazy never judge the cover
Don’t have to when you see a ST badge. Everybody that knows anything knows it’s quick
Yup. Even the Explorer Sport is want to see it against them.
I judge every explorer. It's a cop car and i can't unsee it.
@@Freddy_ConfettiThe Platinum and KR don't have the ST badge and are just as fast 😏
@@e-hills9271 that’s nice. When it’s a st explorer
Like this one rite here in the video (that’s relevant to what I’m saying) you know it’s somewhat fast
That’s the 280hp CX-90 not the 340hp version lol. Please correct that. It’s not a fair race. You got the slowest Mazda CX-90 vs the fastest Toyota GH which costs significantly more too. Different tuning. The Turbo S has a tune that increases boost pressure and other variables to actually give it that higher number. The GT will only ever produce 280hp since that base tune is limited to that with or without premium. Turbo S on the other hand will have 340 only on premium and 320 I believe on regular.
lol you Mazda boys are hella crying in the comments
@@goofy_xf6223 bruh crying? He’s simply wrong but too painfully ignorant and arrogant to admit it
Wrong trim for the CX 90, my guy!
Base engine Mazda? In what world does Toyota even come close to beating Mazda?
How in the world would “premium gas” add 60hp. 😂 wrong model of the CX-90.
Ask mazda their Turbo engine do that :)
@SamCarLegion no they do not. Only the turbo S models and not on the base 280 hp model you have. Premium fuel does nothing.
You must be getting paid to be a liar since you’ll address this question but not the fact that YOU LIED ON CAMERA FOR A PAYOUT. Shady mfr
@@MarshallJames-dh3gi we need the million dollar payout 💰💰💆💆
So the Explorer ST is not only the fastest but looks the best as well!!
On the outside, yes. Interior is a different story
@LoneWolfHustle I will agree there but that is changing here in a few months
Yes explorer is hot and beautiful
@@LoneWolfHustleI like the interior of the Mazda, but the Explorer’s still looks better than it. The Toyota interior is hot garbage… and in every model they make! I have never seen an interior that looks good in any Toyota. Especially the Tundras, they look better now in the newest gen, everyone before this one was horrible.
Ford is the worst, not reliable, it would take you faster to the mechanic
RX500h F-sport Performance vs MDX Type S please! 🙏
That would be awesome!!!
Why RX instead of TX?

Haha, whenever you said 1 1/2 car lengths it was more like four. And when he said maybe two car lengths it was more like 6, or, um maybe 5 Grand Highlanders anyway LOL
We love our ST. Great family car that is a hoot to drive. I've been able to manage 0-60 in 4.9 sec (100% stock). 40,000 miles and zero problems (except passenger seat lower trim piece that always breaks...gave up trying to fix).
4.9???
Sure bud
@@vicktharula8317 seen plenty of 5.0-5.1 claims… 4.9 doesn’t seem unattainable
Canadian market is a little different with trim levels. Was the CX90 a GT or GTP? 280hp vs 340hp. Both have mild hybrid setup with the 3.3t inline 6 but have 60hp and 37tq difference. Always enjoy your videos nonetheless!
Considering the design of the Highlander and the utility of it. It’s impressive, love Fords, own a F-150 powerboost and can’t say enough good things about it. Also own a Regular Highlander Hybrid and both vehicles are amazing and fun to own.
I appreciate the Toyota's straight line speed but the Mazda would kill in the handling department all day every day
As much as I love the ST the wife has one, The Mazda would destroy it in handling as well.
I knew something was off with this CX-90. Even with premium fuel, it still wouldn't make the 340hp in the Turbo S because it has slightly different engine management. Plus the high output Turbo S has body colored side mouldings instead of black. But even that model would still have lost to the GH, though not quite as badly.
But why not put it against the phev? This guy is ridiculous. He literally choose the base Mazda run again fully spect cars. If I were Mazda I wouldn’t let him touch any Mazda products
Grand Highlander hybrid max is a powerful 3 rows suv no doubt.
If you want a better race against the Explorer ST, you need a BMW X5 xDrive 40i. In a 1/4 mile it’ll hang with the ST. But after the 1/4 the BMW is getting walked. The ST ain’t no joke!
@not2dae57 I've been defending the Explorer ST since the first comparison with the MDX Type-S and the GV80. I can't wait to see the Explorer ST run against the BMW X5 xDrive 40i. I want to shut up all of these BMW fan boys once and for all!
@@DalHarpJr I leased a 2020 Ford Explorer ST for my wife. She loved it, at first I wasn’t crazy about it but it grew on me and then I just straight loved it. I started driving it more than I drove my 2018 Dodge Charger Daytona 392. The lease ended on the Explorer and the refresh model didn’t drop on time so she went to Mercedes. But when the refresh drops, I am definitely leasing it for me. The ST is a different animal! For the performance and price; there are absolutely no competitors. The BMW X5 40i with the same features as the ST, is north of $80k. More like $85k.
They both trap about the same speed in the 1/4. Itll be a good race though
@@DalHarpJr yes sir
I'm confused. Is this CX90 the the base 280 HP engine or the Turbo S 340 engine? Why not use the PHEV 323 HP instead since it's more a closer comparison? That being said, getting one MPG less on the inline six compared the Toyota's i4 hybrid is remarkable.
It’s the base 280. You can tell by the exterior trim
@@locondcoco that's what I thought. I just wasn't sure since trim levels differ between countries.
That's the base model cx90 claiming it to be the cx90 turbo S PP. That is not the 340 HP cx90. This dude is a joke
Even the birds were laughing at the Toyota after the final race 😆
Yes way that hybrid max isn’t a regular hybrid. It’s there for power and efficiency don’t think of it as like a normal hybrid though they do have a regular hybrid version of that vehicle. But that 2.4L I-4 Turbo with that Hybrid max battery its 363hp I believe with close to 400lb torque.
wrong trim on mazda…. thats a gt… at least get a gt-p
2024 Sonata N line vs G70 2.5t 🙏🏽
Glad I made the right decision with the Exp ST! Looks and performance 🫶🏻
I have had my eye on the ST for about a year...thanks to u I got to have it!!!
Thanks Sam CarLegion, we really appreciate your hard straight forward drag race.
Could you please race Honda against GH and CX 90 ?
And use the Turbo S version of the cx90 not the base model inline 6 next time. 🤦
Im a little morbid and wanted to see the explorer vs the mazda😂
So we are now living in a world where a 4 cylinder engine is faster than a V6 with larger engine displacement
That Toyota sounded like it was in a lot of pain during the rev “test”
That’s because HEVs don’t let you rev the engine the same way a regular a gas model does. Regardless of the way they sound they’re nowhere near as strained because of the boost from the electric motors.
@@tails300 I understand how it works, I just love how it sounded as if it were screaming in agony when it was revved (because you technically aren’t supposed to at a standstill)
Thank you Ford (never thought I'd ever say that )
The Ford Explorer ST is the winner due to gaving more power and being lighter in weight. Also, quicker shifting as well.
The great news is, the Toyota and the Mazda will still be on the road, won't have squeaks and rattles, and will still be free of rust after they turn two years old.
The Grand Highlander is a great performer for a 3 row SUV, and did anyone else notice or care how much quieter it was than the other two?
Interesting, will Aviator be similar to ST or not.
They have both one engine (3.0 400hp)
I liked your clip
The Ford Explorer ST is one of my favorites
Not to mention that with its twin turbo engine the basis for improvements is excellent
Stage 1 will bring the power in the receiver to over 500 HP.
Should a bolt-on Explorer ST running on a ZFG e50 race tune, will blow everyone’s mind.
I know, I have one and I hurt feelings daily 🤣
Thats definitely not the turbo S model. All turbo models have the silver and black toldinline 6 badge. Actually, the base model inline does not benefit from the premium.
Who donthis guy think he's fooling... thats not the 340 hP cx90 at all. Plus the base model does not benefit fit from premium gas.
Banger after banger🎉
lol you really got a ST racing those 🐢

Good morning!
@@SamCarLegioncan you please redo maybe you didnt know but the cx90 you used only comes with 280hp the 340hp version is only the top trims and have a red in the skyactivg badge
The Grand Highlander Hybrid Max is turbo charged 4cly with the hybrid system giving you 340hp.
362hp
Gotta drag race the palisade/telluride again!
And this is why police cars are explorers. Love mine!
Hi Sam, can you consider this pleae . X3M40i vs SQ5 ?
And GLC43 AMG
wrong spec you got on the cx90 i got the turbo s inline 6 and doesn't look like that, what ypu got us the 2.5 with hybrid assist with 310 hp
Ford is impressive with their twin turbos
If you actually raced the correct Mazda (Top trim 6 or PHEV) this would have been close. And I know thisbis a drag race but for practicality i am willing to bet neither of the other two handle like the Mazda
It wouldn’t have been close with the top trim - the phev maybe. I asked them for PHEV, I was booked for that, but then I got this.
Where is this?
Don’t disrespect the explorer ST going against that toyota sienna
That CX90 didn't have the 340hp variant. The Turbo S with that power has the chrome "inline 6" badge on the fender which this one doesn't. Also, the transmission design makes it slow at launching since it uses the (16hp?) Electric motor on the mild hybrid from 0 to about 3-5 mph before locking the clutch.
I would love to put my 2013 volvo xc60 r design against some of these newer suvs, I believe it would do pretty well it has a 3.0L turbo inline6 with 325hp 354tq and it weights 4225 pounds.
The BMW X5 should be a good race. Depending on trim levels .
That Explorers transmission shifts quick.
Difference between the Grand Highlander and Explorer is that the Grand Highlander can pull off those speeds while getting over 30mpg
No matter what Mazda they bring, the Explorer is in a total different league.
Whatever tires the Explorer has on it are clearly very good
Interesting combination 🤔
It would be cool to see all three trims of grand highlander race against race other ( it turbo4 vs hybrid vs hybrid max). Similarly cx90 regular inline 6 vs turbo s vs PHEV
It’s all marketing gimmick by car companies. No one drives 0-100kmph on regular basis. No one drives like this in a city and they hardly use full throttle once in weeks or even months unless you drive on a highway regularly
do you have the right specs on the mazda lol

I’d be curious to see how the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe would do against that Explorer ST.
It's the base model. All cx90 are MHEV or PHEV which is standard 323 hp. This standard turbo is 280; the one in the video. Then there's the Turbo S and Turbo S Premium Plus which I have; all Turbo S models are 340 hp. The one he has is not the turbo s
I could give a damn about a drag race give me that Mazda 😍
Holy crap you guys have 94 octane in Canada wish we had that in America
That explorer moves.
Seems the Ford ST driver was break boosting on launch.. you did not break boost the Toyota
Highlander cabin seems a lot quieter than cx90??
Nah
The Mazda is just as quiet
If anything the Toyota will be quieter day to day just because it’s a hybrid
Cx90 turbo is a lot quieter than GH
@@mbenton6 after being in both. Yes I agree CX-90 is way quieter. I’m surprised.
I think they really don't know how fast the ST is, when put with those two tortoises of Toyota and Mazda. 🤣🤣

Good morning! Thanks for an awesome breakfast video
Good morning!
You should have bought the 2.3 Ecoboost. It would have been REAL close to the GH. and it would still have eaten the Mazda's lunch.. They can go ahead and try the PHEV Mazda, and the 2.3 will STILL outrun it (500+ lbs less curb weight).
Now Toyota needs to put that engine in the Next Toyota 86 That will be a rocket
It does not seem to be a particularly quick ST? My Explorer ST ran a 13.6 when it was stock. With the mild Ford tune it ran a 13.1 in bad conditions (don’t want to void the warranty). We’ll see how it does this spring with the bigger intercooler? I was hoping to see how well the Mazda did, but you don’t seem to have the fast one.
Cheers, Tony
If there is a trick to launching it that might explain the difference. I find few people practice/experiment enough to really extract the best times from their vehicle.
Like I said elsewhere,
Select Sport mode, traction control off, Power brake to 2000-2500 rpm and let her fly.
It’s not one of those 7 step launch controls, one can have fun just driving it around that way.
Cheers
@@ytTonyZ fair enough, I don’t have experience with launching the ST. Appreciate the insight.
Different tracks, different weather, different DA. You won't get the 13.6 everywhere you know...
Since Sam did not indicate that the Mazda was the turbo S, it may not be the one that has the 340 hp it’s only the turbo S that has that
He doesn't have the turbo S model. He is using thr standard turbo model. This is a fraud
I’ve watched a few videos where they got the wrong specs (video with the Corolla Elantra and Civic where he got 2/3 wrong or chose a poor comparison) and this video definitely has the cx90 base with the 280 (both the 280 and 340 output options are mild hybrids). I like the ideas of the videos, but the actual execution is always poor.
