- In Todays Episode we borrow a knife from a friend and place it on our leaderboard. This is the first Benchmade knife that I have put on the leaderboard and I have a few thoughts on this overbuilt bruiser of an EDC knife which has found its way into the pockets of many. Benchmade Adamas in Video - shrsl.com/3vxld
Reviews are detailed and good...but, reviewing without cutting anything, putting it to its intended use is a little like reviewing a car without driving it. Often a thing is worth more than the sum of its parts, or less as the case may be.
Your Trippin dude.. this knife materials are amazing. This is probably the best benchmade ever made.
Cruwear is great ..g10 is a good user material..but 300$? Considering you can get the same materials on a USA made spyderco for 100$ less it's not a matter of whether the materials are good..just that the price is way too high to get a better rank..I did try to offer this context in the video but price plays a role when we are talking about the justification of a purchase that large
I have many spydercos and not one even feels close to the Addamas.
@@IAMxBANKS idk, a solid spyderco shaman I think could outdo this knife in terms of heft and ability
@@n_conway7571 I heavily disagree. They aren’t even close imo
@@n_conway7571 the Spyderco I owned had to get returned. The lock stick is brutal and shitty
I have 8 bar lock style knives and have never had an issue with any of them. One of them has been my main carry for 20 years and it has never failed. I consider the bar lock one of if not the best lock available.
Yep I have had benchmades for over 20 years, first time sending anything back. I bought new full size adamas a couple months ago and just did gentle spine whack leading to full lock failure. My heart is a little broken. I tested my other axis locks, including older version of adamas and they all passed. The world we live in...
I like the Adamas. But there's absolutely nothing better than Cold Steels' tri-ad locking system
Beast of a knife for sure. Its definitely a unique piece in my collection and nothing quite like it. I bought mine 2 years ago when they came out at $238. Knives are insanely overpriced nowadays.
Sometimes we forget that BMs are one and done, even if you abuse it. We like to bash BM for cost or compare cost to Spyderco. Historically BM warranty has been better than Spyderco. BM offers extremely low cost blade replacements and lifetime sharpening. BM has to factor extra cost into their knives. Still a great review and scoring for the Adamis. I found it to be a great hard use knife, but not a grail.
Do you know about the all the lock failures this knife had? Definitely not hard use
@@concealmenttraining9371 Nope, never had an axis lock fail or an Omega Spring fail either. Just lucky, lucky I guess.
The irony is that I did mention in the video that half the people say the lock is great and the other half say it fails all the time and now I'm watching the comments flow in as people choose their side 😂...what have I done
@@Rollshambo haha.. shame man. Anyway so the mini adamas on the DBK review failed easy.... then a few others. The problem is 1 failure is unacceptable
@@Rollshambo I say good call, keep those comments coming.😂
10/10 for ergos. 10/10 fidget factor.
Sounds like you found the one!! Based on the one I reviewed I respectfully disagree
By far my favorite fidget knife. I have it in two colorways and both perform the same. Have things changed over the last year I recently got both of mine? @@Rollshambo
Honestly the cost was what made me go with a different knife.. I was looking for a tough folder that can do it all and I was set on this one but just couldn’t bring myself to spend the money on it, then I came across the cold steel recon 1 and ended up going with that one, I know the benchmade is a much nicer knife and American made but honestly I’m very happy with my choice, and I got it for under a hundred bucks!
It's a Tank. I have the D2. I am not disappointed it's not CPM cruwear. I carry it off and on depending on my day and mood. Pick mine up off a private seller. Way below $300. Also, Not all Spyerco's are made in US. A lot in Seki Japan. Plus the PM 2 Is a heck of a lot smaller blade. So pricing is not exactly equal between the two for obvious reasons. Two different animals. One thing for sure it is heavy and you will know you are carrying it. BM takes a lot of grief, but I have not been discouraged with any of their products. However, $650/700 for a OTF Auto is out of control.
I have one of the originals with the D2 blade. It’s hard to keep a good edge on it these days. But I’ve carried it for 10+ years and love it. I may send it back to them and have them re machine the edge, or I also might retire it soon. I’m undecided. But it’s a fantastic knife and has held up to a ton of abuse
I have the Mini OD Cruwear and love it. If I could only pick one to last the rest of my life, it’s this one.
This is my favorite. If you asked me, you pay for what you get. It’s well worth the cost. You want quality, you got to pay more.
I really like mine and the mini there great user knives but I didn't realize the price has increased that much, great knife but not at that price!
I got the limited edition burgundy handled mini adamas for my 40th birthday! I love it! Feels great in the hand. Feels sturdy and it's just a beautiful knife imo. Totally worth the $250.
Lanyards are also for loss security... like cutting over deep water.
I will be buying one in tan soon. I have the fix Adamas. I buy my knives from the Army exchange, which are usually a hundred less if not more than msrp. Even better when on sale.
I own exact knife as in the video. It's a great knife, except it has too much belly for EDC. I prefer better tip control. I carry it daily and am doing my best to love it. I actually prefer the Cold Steel Recon 1blade design. I like larger folders and buy for cross-use, such as hunting. The Adamas blade just seems too thick behind the edge for hunting. The Recon seems better. Despite the Adamas seeming better built, I may be sending it down the road? But anyone wanting a cool, larger folder, the Adamas may be for you.
A sharpened crowbar could skin a deer, ive done many with the rusty chipped old filet knife in my john boat. The cold steel is one third the price so you like it more. Thats fine, but too thick for hunting is crazy
@@dizzy4303😂
For any new viewers - I got this knife a few weeks ago and I can most definitely reverse flick the heck out of it. The detent is mighty weak though, you can flick it out without touching the lock or the thumstuds
For any new viewers - I got this knife a few weeks ago and I can most definitely reverse flick the heck out of it. The detent is might weak though you can flick it out without touching the lock or the thumstuds
The fact that the Adamas is called a "tactical" knife and the blade can close on your fingers if you apply pressure to the spine, makes it a certified ($300 box cutting/letter opener).
and a heavy box cutter
I got the mini for 200 and the full size for 226….no regrets, esp at that price.
CPM Cru-Wear it contains sufficient tungsten and molybdenum to cause a secondary hardening response, which doesn't happen with D2 tool steel. It's also possible to sharpen it on a stone, I wouldn't try that with D2.
Basically CPM Cru-Wear is a little better in every way than Cru-Wear and D2 but all three are very close in performance.
CPM Cru-Wear being the best of the three, then Cru-Wear, and finally D2.
I have a feeling Crucible Industries doesn't even make Cru-Wear ingot anymore 🤷 has anyone seen a knife made from Cru-Wear recently? I haven't 🤷.
I want one but $300 is awfully steep for the blade. Benchmade just since the beginning of 2023 has raised price on the Adamas....a bit too much for me.
I'll go with a Spyderco Manix 2 XL.
Not from what I heard I so wanted this n found the axis lock was weak or springs so I went Cold Steel 4 Max Elite!! Built for everything!
The detent is weak because the omega springs are very flimsy in it. My old little 940 has much stronger springs in it. The difference is huge. The 940 has a good detent and a very snappy action. It requires a much higher force to pull the lock bar back. The Adamas is a very attractive knife but this issue with the lock completely ruins it.
I have the mini and the action is better than the one you were handling but not great. I only have 3 Benchmades used to have more but of the 3 my sheepsfoot Griptilian with the spydey hole is by far my favorite my Bugout meeh, like my Deka better. Have had dozens of “axis” locks haven’t broken a spring yet
Got my second axis style lock knife last night and have come to the conclusion that it's not my thing. And since I'm not a hard user, this one is a pass for me.
And the detent is amazing. I wonder if there is something wrong with yours ?
Could be that it's never been used before I checked it out..could be a pivot thing or a one off QC issue..hard to tell unfortunately
I’m so disappointed with your review I wanna send you mine to check out for a re review.
Just ordered the auto adamas. I got govx pricing so $240 ish for full size auto. Looking forward to trying Cruware on my security detail.
Oh, I own several Benchmades. I guess I'm in the lucky camp that has never had a problem with the Omega Spring.
My EDC is an auto Adamas and it is a workhorse of a knife. Spendy yes, but I’m happy.
The coating is called cerakote and it is a high durability ceramic
Mine drops shut so perfectly
Fanboy much? I thought the review was very fair. He did what a lot of reviewers won't and that's give his honest opinion. You have a different opinion and that's fine but man you are acting like he kicked you in the feels.
I've never had a problem with the axis lock on the adamas or my griptilian.
I love mine, don’t carry it to work. But carry it on the weekend
If Benchmadeès intention was to put out a 'hard use folder' then YES they did it. This knife has been 'torture tested' by many YTers and passed. Though, as a 'beater' I would have liked to have seen a more beefy blade. They actually made it Èthin behind the edge' comparable to the PM2....making it more a slier'...that can take some punishment.
I would have liked to have seen Benchmade offer versions with a full CF scale (both side) and a full-Ti version....why not. thereès obviously a huge market.
And while CruWear is a good steel....why not offer it in other steels as wellÉ e.g. LC200n for people who might want a beefy knife near wet enfirnments.
Lastly...I donèt fidget :) So...that would be a non-issue for me.
Not sure if the blade coating is just 'paint' or if they did use CereKote ...if they did they havenèt mentioned it. I would. Surprised more knife companies havenèt.Several gun companies have....are the knife companies Ètoo cheapÈÉ
...about being too cheap...what gets me is how there really isnèt any otally rust proof stainless steel used that ièm aware of. though some say LC200N is just that Nick Shabaz...yet many others say NO. ODD becaues you can buy Ètotally stainless bladed kitchen knivesÈ from the local supermarket. At leat in my area. $15.00--100% rust proofédishwasher safe (though most say ou should neer put a knife in the dishwasher...higher qualityÉ knives)....if you can get a 100% SS knife for $15.00 from China...what is this saying about the steels used for pocket-knivesÉÉ Are the steels Èover hypedÈÉÉ I got to wonder.
As it is Ièm more inclined to spend $250 on a 'good kitchen knife' than a pocket knife...at least Ièd use the kitchen knife regularly...heh...
14:14 I have the mini and its very good on fidget factor. I have had ot awhile and I think the break-in was minimal. Wish I had the large one also.
Benchmade for life, my toughest EDC. oB
No, but I’ve bought the same knife on purpose!
Dag ... Got Mine In Dec 2021 ... Paid 202.30 no tax or shipping ... Guess I Made Out ...
I'm still trying to perfect the slick azz camera focus grip you had at 10secs in. Thought you were just tryin to be cool, than realized, genius. Cam focus
I don't agree with You, this knife is amazing!
The PM2 CruWear vs the Adamas Full?? the PM2 os a 2.7 oz knife designed NOT for "hard use"....a more apt comparison would be with Zt's 308...their "hard use" knife...the Adamas I feel is Benchmades one "hard use" knife.
Having said that if I HAD to get a Spyderco it would be the CruWear PM2....don't own a Spyderco yet as I don't like their design philogospy e.g. refusing to include a sharpening chiol...and more importantly..if I'm going to "EDC" a single-bladed knife it would better for a "hard use " one than a "lightwegiht...3oz or under" that 's only desgined for "light-med use".
"EDC" for ME means "multi-tool" or Swiss Army multi-"just in-case use"...not "everyday tasks"...
This is not a hard use folder.... the lock failures is unacceptable
What is /are people's obsession with the spidy flick??? Why anyone wants to have to position their hand in a manner completely different than how their hand will have to hold the knife just to open it is absolutely lost on me.
I don’t appreciate all this flick shaming BS… get with the times
Fidget factor?
Benchmade Adama Fixed x 2
Benchmade Infidel OTF and Fixed :)
When you buy Benchmade you are buying a nane and a decent warranty there knives are over rated most of the time and they use sub-par materials such as plastic and still they charge premium prices.
Yes Sir the butterfly tax is what keeps a lot of people away. Yet they are a popular knife brand none the less. Go Figure.
Benchmade has priced themselves out of the knife industry. $300 for Adamas, $522 for the narrow, bugout starting at $180, all a hard pass. I will gladly spend the money on another Arius or Norseman before I give it to Benchmade for their lackluster, outrageous price knives in 2023.
You aren't alone..I actually want to try the narrows out for the channel..but 500 is a bit too much to spend to review one of their knives that I wouldn't want to keep...Narrow is accurate name for that knife since everything on it is thin..except for benchmades profit margin😂
You could get it for less than 300 I purchased one not too long ago but did not pay $300. it is expensive but you get a killer warranty with benchmade and the low blade cost replacement is also a bonus. So you’re paying extra for that piece of mind. I choose Esee knives over Kabar Because of the warranty being a little better with no questions asked and they are also easy to deal with.
I agree with everything you said except for one point. Ergos/Appearance/Design, you should have knocked off another whole point for having holes in the handles. Come on, this grievous "en-vogue" gaffe in no way helps the knife and only allows debris to more easily flood into the knife. But having "speed holes" 🤣🤣, it makes me laugh, lets call them what they look like, glory holes, in a knife is a ugly fad, one I wholeheartedly wish had never come about. However the freak holes did not stop me from purchasing a mini Adamas. Often when I hold the Adamas I will verbally berate it, calling it profane names and expressing my displease with the unsightly appearance. I can't get over it, speed holes, to save weight? The handles are plastic, how much weight are you saving? If it pleases the court I would like to petition for the deduction of another point.
This made me lmao this morning😂 this does please the court and we will consider ruling in your favor🤣
I had Bill at Proex put G-carta on my mini with no speed holes WAY better!!
Lol dude 😊
@@toreycasey1214 Now that sounds like the ticket. I will check it out. Thanks for the info.
Benchmade adamas is pocket jewelry garbage..blade steel means nothing if your lock fails.
I rate this review 4 out of 10. Comparing this to the PM2 is silly. I have both and they're very different for very different uses. Also ended up buying Benchmade after 2 Spyderco knives and their disappointing review.
I love the adamas i'd put it at a 9/10. It's amazing.
I think its a good knife, just wish the price reflected less profit margins like the initial release of the model did..at 300 its a non starter for me.. closer to 200 feels way more fair in my opinion but the value of things are whatever people are willing to pay and if you were willing to pay that much and you enjoy it thats what matters the most, thanks for watching!
