How I join the neck to the acoustic guitar body...step one

- This simple jig is very effective in the preparation stage for placing the inserts into the neck so that they will secure the neck to the body of the acoustic guitar.
The acoustic guitar neck can be joined to the guitar body in many different ways. This is one of the easiest methods with few adjustments to make the perfect fit to the body.

Have a nice day today,

Hi Monty. I am new to building guitars. I am currently starting my 4th for my granddaughter. I love the idea of using a jig for cutting the dovetail. I am confused though. Looks like you cut the mortise in the neck instead of in the body of the guitar. Am I missing something?
I stopped using the M&T years ago and went to bolt-on. It works better for me. I think I might have a video on that. I will soon, if not.
Hey that new camera angle is nice, and we can see the area you just cleaned! :)
Most people won't even notice. lol But not David...he always catches me everytime.
OK, so to summarize this is a butt joint with threaded insert into the neck. I've seen that done and was contemplating on doing something similar to an old guitar I inherited and sawed the neck from simply because it was already a butt joint with several wooden aligning dowels. With regards to this build though, I'm assuming that the purpose of routing an indentation into the face that will mate to the body is that it reduces the amount of material you need to remove to set the lateral neck angle? How do you align the center line of the neck to the center line of the body?
I have a center line on the body and when I am sanding the cheeks I make sure the distance from the 12th fret to the corner of the bridge is the same. That all comes later. It can be challenging though to get it straight. You can also measure from the corner of the nut to the neck body joint at the 14th fret on either side of the fingerboard and they should be the same.
I need something a bit stronger then tea after I've put a router near something I have been working on for awhile lol.
I know exactly how you feel.
