“Let me get my ears on.” I love that you practice safe woodworking. 😊😊 “This jig is the jam.”. I am a neck joint fearing man and this video gave me a new tool! And, I always learn something new each video.
Thanks Chris! I bought the O'Brien jig a year or so ago, but the Elevate sure looks cool. Definitely less bulky than the O'Brien but the O'Brien seems to have one advantage in that it dials in the neck angle (i.e. your 88.5 degrees) based on the geometry of the guitar body. The Elevate also looked scary when you clamped it onto the body to do the mortise -- seems like it'd be easy to ether be too loose (and risk it slipping) or too tight (and risk damaging the top). Plus your fingers so close to the spinning router bit was giving me the cringes. 🙂

Awesome video which shows how this jig works very well (I've been curious for a while). Are you also planning a before video of how you cut your 88.5 angle and an after video for neck fitting / joint tweaking. That would be the winner!

He said he would explain the slightly deeper channel he routed next to the tenon at the end? Did I miss it? I believe he said it helped with fitting the neck on. Maybe it keeps the neck from rocking side to side?
I believe he did that to make the neck fitting easier as it enables flossing(sanding) of the remaining(proud) wood in the area that was recessed much simpler. If you try to floss that area without a recessed section then the sandpaper has to get tight with the tenon which never works as planned.....ask me how I know....lol
nice video.. i have an (unrelated) question: on my guitar, the high E string's sound seems to fade out quicker than other strings, is that a bracing problem and is there a way to fix it? thank you

I bought one of these after watching this video. $300 later, I got the jig, router bit and alignment bar. I routed the neck fine but when I got to the body, the bearing on the router bit failed and caused the bit to gouge up the jig. The owner said he would send me a new bit but to just bondo the jig and the joint should be o.k. He offered to sell me the jig portion for another $125. Just my experience. I wont buy from them again.

So how are these considered handmade guitar building when your using this stuff, Saying handmade guitars is a lie and no difference in the way Taylor builds there guitars, Handmade my ass lol.
Chris builds and voices each and every guitar differently according to the customer's needs and wants. Also, Taylor doesn't do the stunning inlay work he does. (by hand) This is probably not the UA-cam channel for you.
