That’s how I introduced the AR to my wife and kids. They absolutely love it.
Need a 25 year old kid? lol. I want one for Christmas. On a more serious note, I can’t wait to have kids and teach them about guns and safety and why they are important. Let’s do what we can to ensure my kids, their kids, and so on have that right. The 2A is on the chopping block and a lot of people are really active in fighting against it. Let’s demonstrate that same momentum.
Sorry to get political lol.
I bought a 15-22 to teach my grandson with and I've been shooting it more than anything else this past year. I got it and 5k rounds for about the same $ as the gun alone is going for right now.
@@boomerisadog3899 I have been letting my son shoot the 15-22 for two years since he was 7 and with a red dot and a 2 point sling along with 8-25 round mags he’s a force to be reckoned with and I absolutely love it plus the controls mimic my AR and he has that down pat.
@@boomerisadog3899 Also have you seen any new videos on the 15-22 pistol it looks to be very interesting plus I believe that they have an integrally suppressed version also!!!
Yay yum yyyhy
I've always just shot a few full power 5.56 rounds through it after using the .22 conversion. Cleans everything out just fine.
Congratulations you just said the silent question's answer.
This is also what is recommended to do in the instructions of the kit
You're only cleaning it out to shoot 556 through it there's really no point to clean a gun except for to run rounds through it so if running rounds through it cleaned it.,.wait... I'm never cleaning my guns again my guns are
Was about to say the same thing glad someone else thout of that too; makes cleaning way easieir after 22lr. Wish I didn't still have my 22can on it 🙁😳😮😧😢....... J/K I didn't 😆 all is 👌.
@@unfortunateteller2279 Running 5.56mm after the .22 cleans out the gas tube from the .22 fouling. You still need to properly clean and lube it after your couple 5.56mm rounds.
Well you successfully shot more rounds of .22 through that AR than I have ever shot through a semi .22 without getting a jam, so that's a plus too.
What semi auto are you running? Seems odd.
@Constable Odo weird. Ruger would have sent you a new bolt man gho if u would've told em there service unmatched
My 10/22 and my grandfathers Remington has never hiccuped
@@sstrongman1667 Also worth asking what ammo they were running through it. Not only could they have accidentally gotten .22 Short (which would run, just not well), but there's such a wide range of ammo quality in the .22LR market that it's not difficult to imagine to awful ammo jamming everything up.
What rifle? And what ammo brand? My Marlin model 60 HATES Remington .22lr
I love this product. Probably one of the best things I have ever purchased. Over 3 years old and thousands of rounds and still works amazingly. The only thing is you have to make sure you clean your rifle before you use 5.56 or .223 again. Too much carbon in your chamber and barrel could result in some big problems.
22lr is going for 16-20 cents per round online. A year ago that was the price of steel cased .223.
The 2nd Amendment is being killed economically because they can't afford to kill it politically.
Bro, "they" aren't economically killing the 2A. More people are buying their first guns and ammo for them, and ammo suppliers are having trouble meeting demand. If anything, the 2A is getting better and better because more people are seeing the merit of gun ownership for self defense.
@@themadkraken1912 California, which is the heart of communism in America, makes you have an 20 dollar background check on every firearm sale and has a tax on all 2nd amendment sales. They can't outright ban guns, but they can restrict them, cause them to be overpriced, and economically inhibit you from owning them affordably.
Why do you think Obama who was thwarted at every turn to reinstate an Assault Weapon Ban, decided to throw out as many Executive Orders as possible banning importation of ammo like 5.45 and 7.62x54r, because that was the cheapest ammo you could get that would pose a threat to home intruders that he wants to supports.
He and they can't stop people from buying guns, but they can make the ammo so expensive you have to take out a loan to buy a magazine full of ammo.
Biden literally said he would ban importation of "assault weapon ammo," also known as all cheap ammo.
@@AA-dn8dj I meant stuff like 9mm, which is still stupidly overpriced despite being stupidly easy to get. I get your point on rifle rounds though
I love how people want to be a conservative but also don't actually understand that means supporting a capitalistic society that's set the prices depending on supply and demand. Look we can have the government step in and set the price, but do you want to be a socialist?
All the auto plants are running 10-30% of capacity and you think that all the ammo plants are running 100%? People are buying ammo en masse and selling it on gunbroker for $1 per shot just to make a quick buck off of their fellow gun enthusiasts, and the factories can't keep up because they don't want their staff sick.
I have it on my DD with a binary trigger, bought a 50 rd drum...talk about fun.
I'm bout to do the same.. Glad to hear it works. .no cycling issues??
@@triggertalk7755 zero issues I only use cci ammo so I can't confirm issues with other ammo.
Same here. How does it do with the gas tube? Any under gassing issues after switching back to 556?
@@dr.mcstuffins5977 no issues at all relating to gas tube, cycling or ftf(failure to feed). The true test for that would be it firing while suppressed. I didn't fire while suppressed. It is recommended however to fire a magazine of 223/556 after firing 22lr, due to carbon build up from 22lr. Firing 223/556, afterwards helps dislodge alot of residue and makes cleaning the barrel easier.
Does it work with echo sport trigger
I've had one for years now, at least 10 years. ZERO issues. Love my CMMG kit! Always turns a couple heads lol
I have had one for years! I have ran it through all my 556 ARs. Works great. Even more fun with a Binary!!!
What binary trigger are you using? I have the Fostech and it doesn't work.
@@pewpewwithtodd8077 u have to run a franklin armory for the 22 conversion.
@@thechad503 darn it! Thanks for the response, guess I'll have to try and get one if they become available again lol
@@pewpewwithtodd8077 yes it was the Franklin Armory
@@pewpewwithtodd8077 It will 100% work with Fostech Echo 2 trigger. You need to search for CMMG .22lr auto sear kit & anti bounce weight this kit trips the trigger block. find some YT videos about it too because when mate the upper and lower the sear needs to be slid back behind the trigger block or it wont work. Hope this helps homie.
I had this kit for like 8 years and shot plenty of rounds in my AR. I went a long time in between cleaning it and fired .223 a lot in between. I never had any jams with the .223 but the Conversion bolt does have ejecting issues if You run it dirty for too long. It’s accurate enough but you may have trouble hitting a clay pidgeon at 100 yards. The longer your barrel the more accurate from my experience. It’s pretty poor with barrels shorter than 16”. Keep in mind the ar has a 1:7 to 1:9 twist rate while the .22 has a 1:16 which is a big difference. I ended up getting a 9”. .22 barrel and the thing can hit small targets at 100yds. This is a great product.
Thanks, Eric and Chad. Thanks for your promotion of great products and for being proponents of gun rights. If we don't all hang together, we will surely hang separately.
Have owned the conversion kit for several years now and it has never failed and is more accurate than most folk think. This may also have to do with the twist rate. Using my 16" carbine with 1:9 twist, it shoots very accurate, like nickle size groups or less at 50 yrds. Like you said, your rifle will get very dirty, not to bad in the chamber, but the FCG will get really caked with powder.
Ive used the hell out of my CMMG conversion the past 9 months or so.... dont wanna replace the 5.56 but will shoot buckets of my 22lr all day. Great video Eric
I’ve had one for 3 years and love it
Do you ever have problems with it not cycling because there’s not enough pressure in the gas tube
Never a single issue with mines. Shoots all brand of 22 also. Just have to clean and oil it
No problems here either, and I only shoot Federal bulk pack
Been waiting years for someone I respect to review this. Thanks for the honest data : )
I have one with a few thousand rounds through it. They run great, reliable and accurate. But like he said, you have to clean the chamber after switching from .22lr to .223
We had some feeding issues from the mag when it was new, just lubed the follower up and have had zero issues since.
@@irm26 I have 4 of their CMMG 25rd mags... only trouble I see with them, is the follower sticking when the mag is full or overfilled. Usually I just give them a twist after I fill them, maybe a little tap, and I’ve never had one not feed inside the gun. Just when loading I’ve had the follower get hung up. Maybe I’ve just been lucky. Got a few thousands rounds on my kit, best investment yet.
i switched to this and an advantage arms conversion for my glock at the begining of the pandemic. best move ever. i can now afford to shoot weekly, and i have enough .22lr stashed i can shoot weekly for 8 years
Wow. You can now shoot .22s wow.
@@MrChet407 lol yeah its pretty sweet to practice and drill 10x as much as all my buddies shooting centerfire. and since both the glock and ar conversions are identical to my centerfire set ups, all the practice and muscle memory carries right over
If you have a problem with spent casings getting jammed, get the Cmmg charging handle ($19.95). Looks and feels the same, but for whatever reason, it fixed my problem with frequent jams.
I've seen these conversion kits at my local gun store. You just now convinced me to get at least one, if not a few of them.
I might have to get me one... 'course I will also have to pick up a 556 upper...
If anyone is looking at one of these, I highly recommend the redi-mag better mag adapter. It not only allows you to run the far superior s&w m&p15-22 magazines, but it also makes your bolt release functional.
I bought one and it is just the JAM!!!! Love it! Functions flawlessly and you can do all mechanics drills and anything under 50yds it’s basically a normal zero! So good!!!
I’ve had this for a few years, that I use with a Better-Mag S&W Adaptor, so that I can use it with Smith & Wesson 15/22 mags (which have windows and load assist) which have been utterly reliable. Such a great setup!
Thanks for the comment, I didn’t know there was a S&W adapter. I might get one. Looks nice, does the bolt stay locked to the rear when you pull the magazine out?
@@mikem2132 Yes, it has last round bolt hold open, when used in conjunction with the CMMG 22LR Conversion.
@@ZaneDouglas1 Cool, thanks for the reply. I’m debating on this setup or the S&W 15-22. Your setup sounds great!
Goddamn that thing sends the spent casings straight to the shadow realm

I have had one for about six months now. Someone said you need to run about 5 or 6 rounds of .556 after shooting the 22's. My problem is I can't just run 5 or 6 rounds, I got to run at least two or three full mags. (LOL).
I really like that kit, CMMG has really fun and well minded engineers.
Between your review & Sootch’s review, I now will get my CMMG .22LR conversion kit! Thanks, Ranger! 😃🇺🇸👍🏾
I built a .22 AR pistol specifically using this conversion. Great fun, have a suppressor and red dot. I also had to get the 50 round drum, to kill zombies ya know...
Shot over 3000 rds of 22lr through my AR so far this year using this conversion kit, Awesome! Save a ton of $$. It runs super dirty AF btw.
Purchased one of the bravo ones. Came with 3 mags and a all steel frame. No brass like the older ones. Runs like a champ!!!! Great out to 75 yards.
has much tigher groups with 1/8T than 1/7T barrels @ 50+yds. Brownells has the 3 mag kit in stock AND on sale, use 'TAG' code for an extra 15$ off. Dec-27-20 still works.
That thing is ejecting the shells into outer space.
@Patriotic Patriot It straight up launches those 22 shells out of there. Haha
@Patriotic Patriot Nice! I've been wanting one myself so gonna have to do it after the holidays. Guarantee you won't have any failure to eject issues with it. 😉
Yeah, I'm guessing that's because the ejector is used to electing a big 223 case
This is one of the best buys out there
I bought this a year ago, thousands of rounds later I can’t recommend it highly enough. Is is ammo finicky, Winchester runs great. I can’t complain about accuracy, 40 yards it’s a nail driver even with a 1:7 twist. I have a ballistic drop reticle zeroed with 5.56, when I rotate it up to 6 it’s phenomenal! 5 stars!
good day sir i have an AR15 chambered in 5.56 with a barrel length of 14.5 and 1:7 twist rate im planning to buy this my local is arounf 35 meters only is it a good buy? thanks
The Ar-15 Lower is the most versatile firearm system available. From .22 lr (I haven't noticed any .17's) to 50 Beowulf for just about any game on the northern continent it can not be beaten. If I had to choose only one system the AR-15 would be it.
Now here’s a Christmas gift I can get on board with
I just bought one about 3 months ago and I love it. I just make sure i run copper coated 22lr. good way to get reps in.
How much?
@@ROOSTER333 just was at bass pro they had quite a few for 199$
I bought a CCMG .22 conversion kit for my Wilson Combat AR Pistol. Love that it came with 3 30 round mags.
I have had this setup for years, and it works great. I have put a boatload of 22 down the 5.56 AR and have never had an issue. I started putting a can on the end and just when I thought it couldn't get anymore fun......well it did. Do yourself a favor though, running this much 22 LR, get an ultrasonic cleaner, it will make your life easier.
I got mine...DO NOT FORGET TO GET THE BORE BUDDY FOR THE BUFFER TUBE TO PRESS UP AGAINST THE .22 BOLT/CARRIER ASSEMBLY NOT TO RATTLE.
Looks like the casing ejects out of the side nearly as fast as the bullet!
AoE Rifle
Running this on my 7.5" AR pistol with a muzzle brake and it works perfectly! The only issues I've had were with old ammo that had been sitting in a box for years, it had some misfires which were easily cleared. Had a couple of failures to feed as well with the old ammo which I attributed to old powder not moving the bolt back far enough to pick up the next round. Once I switched over to new ammo it ran and ran and ran, no issues. I even shot some subsonic without a suppressor and it ran those perfectly too! Gonna need to get a 22lr can for this setup so I can have some quiet fun!
22lr is getting pricey too, but not nearly as much as 556 so if you have an inclination pick one of these kits up and go out and enjoy your ARs and bring that Ruger 10/22 along to compare!
Same with a 7.5" and a Krink type blast can. .223, it's a loud flamethrower, .22lr, it's not
@@ironked I got a BFD for mine, but it won't fit under the hand guard, so I just have the brake and it's LOUD and the fire ball is awesome! Does hurt a bit without good ear pro though
22lr is pleasurable in comparison!
Dear lord glad I bought this a year ago. Stocked up on .22 also.
The reliability of these kits is nothing short of incredible. 22lr and semi auto actions have never been known for flawless reliability but this thing just runs man. Mag after mag after mag as fast as you can pull the trigger and it just runs without malfunction. Money well spent.
I have it and love it. Nice for close range plinking. Much more affordable to shoot 22LR instead of 5.56/223.
Yup I have had a cmag 22lr conversation kit for a while and really like it
is a great training tool! i found out about these in researching training aids for my wife. this device was developed for the military, for the city kids who had never shot before. works wonders teaching new shooters the platform and building their confidence. i knew i had succeeded when my wife picked up her rifle without knowing it was back to 5.56, shot for a while and was so comfortable the change never dawned on her until i mentioned it in conversation with someone else the following day!
I have never had a AR without having the CMMG 22lr conversion to go with it this conversation is a must have if you have a 5.56/223 AR
Why not just buy a .22 rifle??
@@shanescatsandcannabisfarm2965 because that would mean I can only shoot 22lr but if I had a 5.56 nato with a CMMG 22lr kit I can then shoot 5.56/223/22lr from just that unit alone.

I'm ready to go try mine out tomorrow. I bought the Bore Buddy reliability kit for it. I was about to put the bolt buffer in. However after reading the instructions, I found out that you are NOT supposed to use the little black bolt buffer with this kit UNLESS you are using a bolt buffer weight with it. So I will only end up using the buffer plug To keep better pressure forward on the bolt conversion kit and the insert that goes inside the charging handle to reduce gas blowback through the charging handle.
And even .22cal is very hard to find and when you do/ man hold on to your seat. The prices are VERY HIGH

The CMMG conversion kit is a great piece of kit. My local range has a tactical pistol range with steel targets and I use it in my ARs to practice on that range since I don’t have a good place to go to to practice tactical shooting with my ARs shooting 5.56.
That's so amazing that it can go through the SAME threading and be okie dokie
The drop in conversions run great in binary as well with the addition of the auto sear trip.
Just finished a polymer 80 lower RINO.. topped with a light Anderson 5.56 optic.. dropped the cmmg conversion in it..25 rd mag..all for my wife..now she can light it up..if i can keep up loading the mags..👍
I started with this kit, it came with 3 mags. I gotta say, it is pretty awesome. Fit in my .223 wylde just fine. The 20 inch barrel shot most 22 with decent accuracy at 25 to 50 yards. BUT... i hated cleaning it after. I hated even more leaving my 5.56 dirty from .22lr. The star chamber is a pain without the OTIS or Avid tool. You should take in to account the average .22lr bullet is a bit smaller than ideal for your .223/5.56 barrel. For these very reasons, I built a dedicated .22lr upper. 9" CMMG .22lr barrel. They can come with an adapter that will let your conversion kit mate to your .22lr barrel perfectly. The .22lr chamber is in the barrel. Accuracy gains were awesome. I can now, with open sights, hit a 4" plate at 100 yards most of the time, and hit an 8x10" plate at 100 almost all the time. Couldn't do that with the 5.56 barrel. My build: Aero lower and upper, Palmetto EPT trigger, BCM mod (forget which) grip, Magpul larger trigger guard, Aero Upper: Aero UPK, CMMG 9" .22lr barrel. KAW valley flash forwarder (aluminum 9mm PCC type), Midwest Industries super slim MLOK handguard 10.5 inch, Midwest barrel nut. CMMG bravo conversion bolt and mags, IMI defense CH, Magpul flip up irons, with KNS precision .052 sight post. Currently topped with Truglo 1-4 LPVO. I know that's a lot, but it is so fun. It took me about 9 months of looking and gathering to get it together. I actually decided to go 22lr near the end, was originally gonna do a 10.5 5.56 AR, but this was for sure worth it. Shoots great, reliable, not picky on ammo. I use the same reloader Eric does, that he didn't really mention. That is much needed. Thanks for reading! Keep plinkin!!!!
Fun little fact, the m&p 15-22 magazine will work in this conversion kit
Not without an adapter. The Better-Mag S&W Adapter works great.
@@qssneaky There's a kit for it? I just be swapping between the two magazine types without thinking about it.
For real. I would much rather have the S&W mag with the assist tab.
I've always been a fan of ammo flexibility. 357mag/.38 revolvers and 9mm conversion cylinders. .22/.22mag SA guns. G23 with 9/357sig conversion barrels and mags, AR lower with .556 and .300 uppers and a CMMG kit. I've had one for about 5 years. It is definitely lots of fun on a short pistol. The the above 23 and an AR pistol set-up make a good emergency loadout to insure finding some kind of ammo just about anywhere.
I bought this during the start of the covid season. I have used this on 2 of my ARs. On my LMT and my Windham.
I had a cmmg conversation kit for several years and up till today I wasn’t very happy with it because it would stove pipe a lot. So I took some of my reloading lube and wiped down 40 shells and they ran flawlessly happy again. I guess it was me and not the bolt carrier. Pew pew.
Half the accuracy, twice the fun. It will make you smile in mather of seconds.
I bought a cheapy aero 12.5” pistol, bought this conversion from PSA, opened it up, oiled the rails, hand cycled it maybe 10 times and it ran flawlessly for me. 600 or so Aguila standard velocities. I’d have shot more but my fingers are sore from loading mags constantly lol not a bad problem to have
You gotta love a nice 22 could be at the range all day having fun planking knocking over soda cans awesome conversion
That would be a great set up except here in northwest ohio we can not even find any .22 ammo right now

I really don’t understand why people hate on .22 rounds so much...they’re extremely fun, easy and simple.
I went about picked up a nice little bolt action rifle recently and enjoy the shit out of it. Heck, more than half of the arms I have!

Picked up one at the National Matches at Camp Perry years ago. The US Army used the original version for training and 25 meter qualification.
Couple of points: .22lr is hard to get as well, and if your going to use a brace following the ATF letter a couple of days ago, at least tell people to go comment on the letter, or make those who may not know about it aware of it. Love the channel.
Our video on the situation goes live tomorrow
Honestly really tempting to get for affordable training. Can still practice handling the rifle, movement, aiming with your optic or iron sights, clearing malfunctions.. but for 55c cheaper per round.
You can currently get 1000 rounds of 5.56 for around $600. You can 2000 rounds of .22 for around $130. Get some solid training in, scratch that itch to go shoot, and put that saved money towards stocking up on 5.56 ammo.
Boy, that brass ejects with some serious authority. But judging from what I saw, it is seriously consistent when it does come out. Even on the rapid fire sessions, the path the brass took never varied more than an inch or so up and down. Pretty darn cool.
I was using something like this back in the 1980’s while I was in the Army Reserve with the M-16.
HAHA! Eric and I started laughing at the same time shooting the last soda!! Fantastic content!
I too laughed out loud at the same time..... That was great !!
Great video! I would love to see another how far can slugs shoot video! Thank you guys for what you do!
Looks like you're having the same thoughts as me. I just got the CMMG Bravo conversion kit and a Taurus TX22.
I did the same thing!
When you bagged that last soda bottle we both started laughing at the same time, same laugh, thanks for the review and the laughs !!
What a great video. Thank you IV8888
I do appreciate all the information you give us. I am new to the shooting world and had no idea about this conversion until today. Thanks again
I know this is a old video, but I am buying this kit and making a dedicated AR15 .22 plinker. I just wanted to say thank you for your video and the way you laughed when you shot that drum just made laugh, I know that feeling...lol stay safe brother
we picked one up on sale (under $100) a few years back, several Black Dog mags and put together a .22 AR pistol out of spare parts that is a BLAST to shoot......it always gets taken and shot ALOT when we go to the range...highly recommend
Hope this helps, haven’t tried many different brands but I can tell you Aguila super extra 38 grain 1280 FPS cycled 200 rounds with not one jam or dud whereas the Winchester 1300 FPS 40 grain would give me a dud or a jam about 1 every 3-5 rounds. The Aguila also happens to be dirt cheap at about 7 cents a round
I got one of these last October. 100% reliable with good ammo. Just clean and keep oiled ever 150 rounds or so.
I've used it in my FN, BCM, and FN/PSA.
Everyone talking about ammo shortage but cabelas/basspro in Georgia always got 5.56 in stock and Academy has some every Monday/Wednesday/Friday and it’s super cheap🤔🤔🤔
I can find ammo in my town too, but mostly on the days they restock.
Same. Just picked up 750rd of winchester m855 5.56 from my bass pro two days ago. They must of had a shipment of 30,000+ rds. And today when I checked, they still had so much. All 150rd boxes.
@@Steve_I yea I normally just ask the workers when they get a shipment and they tell you what arrives and and when
.... and clean your gas tube. For accuracy there is a block that goes into the buffer tube. Great stuff. Stay safe and well.
