    Just came here to say: CMMG, you guys knocked it out of the park with this product. I have gotten 10x the CQB practice in thanks to this. I’ve used even the cheapest .22 LR ammo in it, from Herter’s, to Remington and Winchester. Absolutely boss engineers over at CMMG.
    It would be epic if you come out with a 30 round mag to better mimic standard ar mags.

    • @linkbond08
      @linkbond08 Місяць тому

      Please correct me if I'm wrong.
      I believe the reason they use a 25rd mag, is because that's all you can fit in a single file, in a magazine with the dimensions of a standard 30rd AR mag.
      223 is wider than 22, but it's also rimless (and fairly cylindrical) which is perfect for double stack mags.
      22lr is smaller, but it has a huge rim that has to be managed, the internal dimensions of the CMMG mags do a remarkable job at this, while being confined to the outside dimensions of a standard GI AR mag (they even put the lines on it)
      If they wanted to stick 5 more rounds in the mag they'd have to 1: make the mag about ¾" to 1" longer to accommodate the rounds and the extra spring length to push all of them up. This can make the mags not compatible with some mag pouches, making training, and storage slightly more difficult.
      Or 2: re-engineer all the internals to fit a stack and a half profile, the internal channel would have to be widened and geometrically modified, same with the spring, it would have to be modified to fill the channel and prevent snakeing, also the follower would have to be changed from a push top to a tilted style to guide the first round into a left-right pattern.
      In the end you'd have a much more expensive and probably less reliable 30rd 22lr mag, that can fit in standard AR pouches, and that more than likely ain't gonna sell well, because *_"why buy 1 30rd mag? When I can buy 2 25rd mags."_*
      Again please do correct me if I'm wrong.
      Besides quality 22lr comes in 50rd &100rd boxes, and 4 full mags make 100 square rounds, it's mathematically perfect.

    One of my favorite things about my conversion is being able to shoot .22 through a faster twist 5.56 AR barrel. It stabilizes the Aguila 60 grain SSS .22lr very nicely, and is awesome to shoot suppressed.

      With a 1:7 13” barrel what kinda distance could you expect with these 60gr .22?
      I plan to use it for steel matches but there’s a few special .22 only matches that sound high speed enough to me that go out to hefty distances some of them even 230yds.
      I figure a 5.56 barrel probably won’t be able to reach those distance? What ab the 60gr ammo??

    • @ClericalConsequences
      @ClericalConsequences 8 місяців тому +1

      @@Marksman5147 I think any 22lr is going to be dropping like a rock at that distance. But a 60 grain at 1000 fps will certainly have an advantage over a 40 grain at 1000 fps. I’ve shot 300 yards with a 40 grain CCI standard velocity (1050 fps I think) and the holdover was about 15 feet to hit a full size silhouette.

    I bought one of these CMMG kits about 10 years ago for 25 bucks used in a shop. Came in a brown plastic box that was cracked with two steel 10 round mags. Worked fine in a rifle I put together. I later put a dedicated pistol together and reversed the gas block blocking the port omitting the tube to keep the gasses out of the upper. Stays a lot cleaner. I use several different plastic manufacturer mags in it no issues.

    I got one of these about three years ago, with four magazines. I shoot 300 to 400 rounds every week, and it’s still going strong. The only thing I’ve had to do is replace the firing pin spring. I have one of those ultrasonic cleaners, I take the conversion bolt apart drop the pieces in the basket run it for about 20 minutes and it’s just like new.
    I bought one for my son the Christmas of 2022, and he uses it every week as well.

  • @mlrllama

    Bought one a few months back and just installed it this weekend. Unfortunately, it was an absolute bust in terms of reliability.
    From what I could surmise, the problem appears to be the magazines. My kit has the mags with the red feed ramps and removable bottom plate to access. These have a lot of slop in them when seated in the mag well, causing the ramp trajectory to feed bullets at a steep angle into the chamber leading to FTF. Once the first round fed, the problem would somewhat clear up but never was more than 80% reliable.
    In contrast, my buddy also bought this kit, but his had different style mags that had orange feed ramps and six (6) screws to take them apart. His kit operated almost flawlessly right out of the box.
    In troubleshooting, one of the things we did was swap mags, and sure enough that appears to have cleared the issue.
    I contacted CMMG in hopes I could trade in my mags or at least have them send me the orange followers. Hopefully I hear back from them soon and get this fixed because I really want this kit to work!

      I bought this set and had a ton of problems in my Ruger AR556, specifically failures to fully eject with the brass getting caught up in the ejection port. I did two things to resolve the issue and now it runs great. 1. Put a little fuzzy side velcro on the top front of each magazine to take up some of the slop, and 2. Purchased an aftermarket charging handle for this kit that does not have the long groove on the underside.

    • @mlrllama
      @mlrllama 3 місяці тому

      So, update on my kit:
      CMMG sent me three new mags to try out. On first inspection the springs seemed more stiff than the originals, so I was hopeful this would solve it.
      Unfortunately, it did not. Same feed issues as with original mags, even with sturdier springs. I even swapped out the factory springs with Bore Buddy replacements, to no avail. I also tried CCI Stinger ammo as well as Tac-X designed for AR-15/22 setups...no go. At this point, I'm convinced it's the loose fitting magazine in the mag well throwing off the feed ramps causing it to bind up.
      I guess I'll try other mags at this point. I hear S&W 22 mags are stellar so might pick one up to see. Shouldn't be this annoying...

    I have only one regret about my CMMG Bravo .22LR AR-15 Adapter.
    That regret is, "That I didn't invest in it a lot sooner than I did."
    Member of an Indoor Caliber Restricted Range, where Center-fire rifle is prohibited. Nearest Outdoor Range is 2+ hours away. Buying CMMGs Adapter makes my AR legal for use at my club.
    Our lanes are 60' long, and at that distance, accuracy is as good as any Semi-Auto 22 I own.
    At the outdoor range, accuracy is still adequate out to 50-75 yards. At 100 yards, the groups start to widen up a bit more than the other semis I own.
    Is it Match Grade Accurate? No, but neither is a stock 10-22.
    If you own an AR in 5.56/.223, I highly recommend investing in CMMG 's Bravo Kit. Running a little Rimfire cartridge that costs $0.05 - 0.10 compared to $0.50 - 1.00+ per round means a lot more economical trigger time.
    The only issue I had was some 6 or 7 year old Remington Thunderbolt ammo, and I blame that on the ammo. It's given me issues in my other .22 self loaders. That's why it's 6-7 years old. I don't buy Remington .22LR at all because it only works consistently in single shot or revolvers in my experience. Has a lot more fouling too. Mexico's Aquila ammo is better than Remington's.

    If CMMG were to make a .22lr conversion kit that replaces the bolt of a BRN-180 AR UPPER Then they will have truly become the big daddys of utilitarian useful hunting / defense & sport tools . As it is there CMMG .22LR adapter works way more dependably than a 10-22 . They have out done themselves. ¿ Please make a conversion kit for BRN-180 . Also would like to see a .22mag conversion kit for ar-15. & BRN-180 .? Imagine if you had a brn-180 & for some reason the piston system failed you could still use the rifle unaffected in .22lr . And in any 5.56 ar or brn-180 if a bolt lug broke or something like that gas rings ect , u should be able to use the .22lr kit unaffected by that .

    I had issues with mine out of the box and CMMG was great about getting it working for me. I bought the forward assist piece too because occasionally a round wont feed all the way (especially when the chamber gets a little dirty). Some ammo feeds and works better than others.

    I own and have used your conversion kit in the past with good results in general. I stopped after picking up a 15-22. Been looking at your dedicated 22lr uppers which I assume work just like conversion kit without the chamber adapter. Couple questions, since I have a bunch of 15-22 magazines I was wondering if you have tried the Better-Mag adapter in your conversion kits and 22lr upper? Also, with the dedicated 22lr upper what kind of accuracy can you expect with something like CCI MINI MAGs? I ask because with the conversion kit I have noticed I get some back and forth movement inside my upper which seems to open my shots groups up somewhat.

    • @CMMG
      @CMMG  Рік тому +1

      We've not tested with the Better-Mag adapter, but know a lot of people run them with little to no problem. Regarding the dedicated upper, the main thing is you will have the correct twist rate therefor a more stabilized projectile and it will be more accurate. While the conversion kit is decently accurate, dedicated is the way to go if you are wanting the best accuracy.

    • @CMMG
      @CMMG  Місяць тому

      It honestly depends on the magazine well. With so many options, there are a lot of lowers that are different specs. Our original mags had a provision to trim a place to make them work better in your gun. However many people didn't know how to do this, so we had to make to a smaller spec to fit a wider range of lowers.

    Turn your semi auto ar into a bolt action .22 that has no charging handle so you use your keys from your pocket to charge the bolt after every single round that fails to feed every single shot. Spend more time unjamming your rifle than ever before. Super fun times
    I tried two different rifles that function perfectly, tried 3 different magazine types and 4 different brands of ammo. Still failures to pickup next round/ double feed issues almost every single shot.
    If you use the magazine as a foregrip and push it up and slightly back you can get the bolt to pick up the next round but it's comically just barely snagging them to where if you don't push up on the mag while firing it will miss the next round completely and you end up with an empty chamber and a sad click when you pull the trigger. Then it's time to cradle your AR like a baby and push in on the mag while using your keys to charge the bolt again in hopes of chambering one this time. Just buy a Ruger 10/22 for 100$ more than this piece.
