Just to clarify for people who take everything we say dead seriously for no reason:
We're not reviewers, we play mods and we laugh at the random junk we find funny about them because we enjoy it. That's our content style. There's plenty of people taking the mod seriously and showing it off properly if that's what you're looking for, but we've (almost) never done anything like that, we're just here to goof off.
it's honestly the thing I (and I'm sure a lot of people) watch you for. it's this verys specific type of goofy in-the-moment comedy mixed with pop cultural references (that i personally almost never get) along with references to your other funny wacky moments from other videos. I don't think you guys should be serious, honestly. not that it wouldn't make you less fun, but it just kinda strips you of your personality if that makes sense.
At the end of the day a mod is a mod. Whether it's good or bad it's still lots of fun and definitely more fun than just playing vanilla Half Life 2 again. Don't worry about what other people say about the video.
Yay! Fun time rather than "ThatGuyWithTheGlassesMadeMeRegretEverythingILovedSoIChangedTheChannel" levels of cynicism!
Yeah
Very positive reviews.
You said it numerous times, so I'm not sure why people would think you're hating on the mod.

As I russian, I would guess that this mod was translated by putting individual words into google translate and then mashing them together to form a sentence
That's 99% of the russian mods played in this channel
I feel like they know the meaning of what they're saying but don't have any context as to how actual people speak English
susie
to its credit, it's more coherent than the average translated russian mod.
I couldn't tell you why, but half-Life and Postal seem to have larger followings in Russia than most other fps games, and have their own, _interesting_ Russian mods.

8:04 If the thing in the background is the Citadel in construction then it's safe to say that this takes place early on during the combine occupation, so there sill could be children that haven't grown up yet.
Well, it's not THE citadel, as the mod takes place in City 545 as opposed to City 17, but you're probably right regardless because I think I saw someone say that it takes place fairly soon after the combine takeover.
Throughout the city chapter you can see multiple calendars with a the combine insignia saying "7 years of unity" or something like that so its safe to say it happens 7 years after the 7 hour war.

The main protagonist has great handwriting. It’s almost like it was typed.
Mahogan and Timbles are probably the only mod-players I know who would become attached to a specific prop and protectively carry it through an entire game, and I find that freakin adorable.
I’m not gonna lie my internet bugged out and it buffered the video when they just happened to be looking at a wall with the teddy bear on the floor and I genuinely thought it was a bit they were doing and were silent as a joke
the half life instinct of getting the gnome to the end got you guys by grabbing a teddy to the end
The canon ending as far as I'm concerned was stopping halfway through, staying with the Vortigaunt on the ship and getting high.
9:35 i think they accidentally drew the Aphex Twin logo. Guess the resistance are really into blasting IDM when fighting the Combine.
I'm sorry, but hitting your head on a post while riding a train that's going at least 30MPH has to be fatal. There's no way you're surviving that.
Don't worry, our protagonist is somewhere from Eastern Europe. He's used to it.
The main character does suffer from head injury, and near the end of the game the main character fainted

Thank you for this phrase, I will now be using it whenever someone is mean to me on the internet

The full sentence was "should I disconnect him from life-support?" but I tried to do a comedic cut halfway through him saying it, but I didn't time it correctly. I like your version better though.

Привет из России! After your video, I was interested in this mod. This, of course, is not Entropy: Zero 2, but in the absence of anything, it looks quite good. Particularly interested in the atmosphere of the post-Soviet space.
That strange flat hat that surprised you at the beginning of the game is called a "тюбетейка" (tyubeteyka / skullcap).
And that round "Soviet doll" that you are interested in is called "неваляшка" (nevalyashka / roly-poly / non-falling creature). According to Wikipedia, in different cultures there were many analogues of a similar toy that does not fall.
And I was quite surprised that you were so surprised by that upholstered door. Yes, we can often find similar doors. To be honest, I never thought about why they make them like that. Perhaps this is such a style, and perhaps it has a practical meaning, like protection from the cold. I don't know. But not all doors are like this. There are also simple metal ones without any decorations.
I would like to translate the textures in Russian for you, but I guess you are not interested. Plus, I did not find any important information in these inscriptions. Mostly instruction posters, shop names, warnings like "High voltage" and other funny names for things. In some places, not Russian, but some other language appeared. Considering that the mod events take place somewhere in the city of Central Asia, then it is probably one of these languages.
I absolutely think you should translate them for the mod team... like clearly the English actors that spoke English better probably modified their dialogue which is why it's so contrasting.. I'm assuming they just would have taken what was provided for them and and you know turned it into something easier to say.. but.. clearly or perhaps or something or another because this is all over the place.. possibly.. the actors that didn't.. didn't.
There's tonal inconsistency all over the place, and it actually kind of works in its favor because it's kind of adorable.. there's definitely a lot of enthusiasm and love that went into this.. and the fact that they did audio localization as well as text localization.. that's really going above and beyond and.. really didn't feel like anything was a half measure or anything like that out of laziness or just what not.
Like the whiteboard reminds me of mission improbable.. but in mission improbable it was clearly a joke.. in this case it's kind of like I don't know if changing the actual language on the whiteboard would have actually made it any less funny because it was also combined with the visuals..
But then you had that overlay of the OverWatch weapon which was like genuinely serious and effective..
So I'm just I'm just curious if the original language actually feels like it's very serious.. and it's just the combination of a lack of English familiarity, multiple people working on the same project in isolation, and genuinely not really knowing there was a problem in the first place perhaps? Or maybe even a time crunch who knows.. probably all of the above.. but if it kind of one to ones in its original language.. that's even more mysterious because... Like the tone isn't because of translation on its own.. there's like art presentation that tonally juxtaposes..
Also what do you mean by a doll that doesn't fall? Did the Soviets invent hover technology? Cuz I could see that being a thing... And just only ended up as a side note for a line of toys or something.. I could also see that being Slavic sorcery.. and it's just you know normal.. cuz like.. I don't know... It just would surprise me less than you might think.. this is only half joke and can be converted from that at any point.. like I really genuinely can go either way so.. well maybe not about the hover technology thing.. but certainly about the witchcraft thing LOL dolls are.. they're not natural.
Its Kazakh
@@jakedill1304 (Answer. Part 1) I did not expect such a detailed answer. Usually it's me who likes to type so much :D
Unfortunately, I haven't had time to personally try the mod yet (although I would like to) and therefore, unfortunately, I cannot answer something specific about the text in the game. If I personally see him during the passage, it will probably lead me to the necessary conclusions and assumptions.
I don't know how they translated this game into English. As you know, there are many different situations. Was the translation done by another team that collaborates with the developers of the mod, or someone among the developers has some knowledge of English and translates to the best of his ability. Or someone just used Google Translate and some of their knowledge.
But if the translator did not clarify the details of the context of some lines, then it is likely that they may not be translated correctly. Although, in my opinion, there are not very many words in Russian that change cardinally from the context of the sentence. Usually the words are self-sufficient and therefore do not need to constantly learn the context, as Japanese translators like to do. Although, perhaps there are other difficulties in understanding for a person who is not familiar with the Russian language. For me, this is commonplace, but for someone, there will probably be many questions.
I correctly understood from your text that the translation into English turned out to be strange? If I play in Russian, I won't be able to know this...and I wouldn't understand even if I played in English ":D Except, probably, obvious mistakes, if any.
But yes, I agree. I was surprised that the mod team not only translated the game into English, but also voiced it. I think it's very commendable. I am personally aware of how difficult it is to translate my creation into another language, while I originally typed the text focusing on Russian.
To answer one of your questions, yes. As in any language (as far as I understand), there are words that have no analogues in another language. That is, the word itself can be explained, but it will not be one word, but a phrase, or perhaps a sentence. I don’t see a problem, but if you need to fit the translation of words into the timing, then this will be a problem, of course. Therefore, sometimes translators replace words with others that are not entirely accurate (and sometimes very different), but plus or minus preserving the context and timing of the spoken word.
Damn. I hope I explain correctly. This is a rather long topic. Plus, I'm not a translator. I only describe the information that I learned from real translators and what I felt from my own experience.
@@jakedill1304With the non-falling, it's not about hovering. Instead it's about falling on its side, which that doll never does due to clever weights in the base. In the English-speaking world, Weebles work on the same principle.
@@battadia yeah I was making a joke LOL but I found the doll eventually and kind of saw what it was and yeah it's kind of nifty.. Thursday an interesting aspect in video games and just 3D rendering in general where you have this point of origin and you rotate around it the character or the item etc and I kind of wonder if that's just a congruent idea, or if somebody looked at one of those dolls and was like hey this would be a great way to set up a point of manipulation..

When i saw that you made a video about this mod, i didn't watch it and went playing the mod itself instead, and while i was playing i had a ton of fun just imagining where and how exactly you will be confused by this mod, and which funny comments you would make over things in this mod. At this point I'm completely convinced that Deadwater Gaming and russian mods are match made in heaven, an ultimate source of content.
I really hope this is a part 1, would love to see rest of the mod on your channel here!
Also "anybody does mechanics work?" phrase is the goofiest ever translation of "кто-нибудь разбирается в механике?" question in russian, and the fact that it matches perfectly with the "does science work?" line from Half Life google translated makes it 10 times more fun, a sequel that we needed!
You liked the mod only cuz of its mistakes and some other things didnt you? Do you even care about the effort that devs put into making this? You just laguh at things that are suppost to represent something you dont know.
@@sonicloverlol Umm, what are you talking about? And why do presume that i didn't understand it and laughed at it? I understood the mod pretty well, and i didn't say that i laughed over the mod itself, i laughed in moments that i understood but knew that Deadwaters won't understand so easily and will make a funny comment about them. I am from the culture that this mode tries to represent, i understood this mod pretty well, and besides, there were pretty much no mistakes to laugh at in this mod, abd i did not write anything about them in original comment, so i don't understand why you are so mad for no apparent reason...

Привет! To answer the question at 13:10 , why there are so many WW2 weapons:
The Great Patriotic War (the german invasion of USSR) is a huge thing in the culture of post-soviet countries. The things soviet people had to suffer under nazi occupation, the grueling and bloody effort our people had to make to finally reach victory, and all the lives lost both on the battlefield and in nazi "death camps", is why this period earned the name of "the sacred war".
May 9th, the day of Third Reich's capitulation, is a national holiday, "Victory Day". When Timble exits the underground pass on 22:53, you can see the posters on street lanterns, celebrating the date (with "May" written in kazakh and russian).
So, hence the WW2 guns. The heritage of our Victory.
P.s. honestly, I really like this mod from what I'm seeing. The level design of a soviet town alone is top notch, no wonder it has so many positive reviews. The translation could be better, but overall, I love it.

I love the middle eastern environments since the series and most other mods haven’t explored that kind of environment yet, but the voice acting is a bit weird. But I love the entire sequence on the assault of the Combine base near the end with the rebels, it actually feels like a realistic assault and it has a nice feel to it. Unlike in HL2 when you storm a strongpoint and all you need to do is take out 3 generators and suddenly it’s under rebel control

So what's with the random lag spikes?
Is this a mod from the guys that made thunder's leaves
Swelter and Snowdrop escape are both weird in that they write the Combine Occupation of Earth as if it were an ordinary civil war or something.
Technologically and artistically speaking these mods are pretty well made though, its just the story that seems like it was written as if the Half Life storyline wasn't an alien apocalypse and everyone's not being freakin rounded up and major continents of the planet aren't being glass or generations of people enslaved by the combine, which is just weird.
Maybe they reinterpret it.
To the rest of the world, it was a post-apocalyptic nightmare. But to Slavs, it was Tuesday.

So funny enough.. metro cops are immune to the buzzsaw of the manhacks.. you can shoot it at them.. but you can't cut them up.. but everybody else.. like how could you not? As soon as you get the gravity gun manhacks go from annoying to a problematic best friend that you're still happy to see.. then when you're done with them.. shoot them into the last guy standing..
I really don't know why I haven't seen more people do that..? in fact I almost never see people use the gravity gun just to deal with them in general.. it's like I can shoot them for the next 5 minutes.. or I can punch them all into a wall in 5 seconds..
