Usually all the models and textures in Source are precached before the map loads fully so it's always in RAM. Sounds can be precached too but I guess a lot of it is just loaded on-demand from disk.
@@TheMentalgen My guess is the map loads differently than sounds, sounds probably play only when they're needed and arent precached to save on memory and it leads to them being called into the game if they need to be played and load instead.
To this day I have a small lag spike in Counter-Strike 2 every time a sound goes off for the first time because I still don't deem the game worthy enough yet to move back to the SSD.

The sound issues i could explain with how the game caches sounds. Source games have a sound precache file on disk, which contains the first 0.125 sec of every sound in the game. This file is loaded on map load with the relevant sounds required for the map and always resides in ram. The idea is that, back in the day with slow old HDDs, the 0.125 sec give just enough time to bridge the gap between the game wanting to play a sound NOW and the hard drive being able to spin up again and actually loading the sound file. You can very prominently hear how it works in the day 1 HL2 version. With the actual sounds basically gone, the game can only play the 0.125 seconds of every sound from the loaded precache file. Though it seems broken on newer engine versions? Or just doesn't work how it should on some sounds.

this actually teaches you, indirectly, about loading programs into memory. like how the pickup sound had broken, thats because the sound hadnt been loaded into memory yet and when the person picked something up, it looked for it in storage, but the storage had been removed so it didnt know what to do
5:03 So basically in here, you're just hearing random memory values in the RAM. Kinda garbage memory. I'm amazed how the program isn't give a segmentation error (crash) during playtime. But I am not sure why it happens but there is 2 probability: Source Engine opens files during playtime or re dumping the DLL files over time...
Those corrupted sounds from the flash drive section really remind me of 1st gen Pokemon games. Corrupting those or abusing glitches can cause VERY similar noises...

Love how when they open the door that leads into the apartment complex, it’s just an endless void. That’s the type of stuff you would see in a gmod arg
I'm honestly glad to see a follow-up to this even if it's from another user. I've always been morbidly curious with game corruptions and glitches that basically cause weird or odd effects.
i have no idea why or how but this video cured my hangover
You got lobotomized by the source engine
This atmosphere with the music there
I have the impression that you are going to show me the iceberg of Half Life
Can someone pls isolate those crunchy high pitch screeches into their own audio? They are so yummy!

HOW DID I NOT SEE THIS IS MY LONG SEARCH FOR MORE UNPLUGGING, but then i realized "18h ago" and stopped
really shows just how much is stored in your RAM alone. the maps are fully playable with all the events, and the physics engine suffers 0 issues.
This shit is good for an analog horror like an Eldrich being possessing a hl2 game and the player thinks it's just broken
this would be digital horror my guy

You must love corruptions by Vinesauce as well.
@@trulyinfamous YEP. Always thinking back to that Elmo video where Grover just fucking A-poses and LERPs towards him.
almost def a colegue in informatics
Considering how everything sounds, subtitles are pretty accurate.
7:08 Oh my god my imagination came true 😂
i absolutely love these types of videos. almost horrifying, yet so interesting
computer corruptions are fascinating its like you get to watch a program die in real time and its screaming in pain
the subtitles are just the game screaming for help. it happens
This is how ARG was made.
2:18 it explode so hard that the game cannot handle it
3:30 At least the trains now sound like real trains.
Lmao
i think you meant old trains.
@@ChiroTheSkunk fairly sure old trains didn't sound like that..?
4:54 shits so broken it starts sounding like Brazilian Phonk 💀
I think that says a lot about the genre
I'm from Brazil and I can confirm that Brazilian phonk sucks
what, does it demand money from you, then calls you FDP and threatens to hunt you down?
what i think it's crazy is that the physics engine works as normal
Nice to see that someone investigated this more, thank you
i loved juko's vid, and this just fueled me some more hype for the second part of his vid.
2:27 bro made a sick beet
Pick pi pick
this is exacly as scary as i remember playing it back in the day, thank you!
I love how quickly it goes from stuttering to 1970s computer noises
So basically when a source game breaks it becomes an sv_pure 1 server
5:13 atleast some of the subtitles are normal but then it turns to Japanese and greek
Glad to see my video inspired more videos on this lol (i think my previous comment was deleted)
i love how in the middle of speaking ancient runes the game just says "I>Did the lungfish refuse to breath a"
when the time i want to see it
USB flash drive HL2 be like:

I like how the subtitles always devolve into Chinese like that's their primary form
It almost shows like dial up Internet.
this actually teaches you, indirectly, about loading programs into memory. like how the pickup sound had broken, thats because the sound hadnt been loaded into memory yet and when the person picked something up, it looked for it in storage, but the storage had been removed so it didnt know what to do

im glad to see source games aren't dead. I really love these
5:03 So basically in here, you're just hearing random memory values in the RAM. Kinda garbage memory. I'm amazed how the program isn't give a segmentation error (crash) during playtime. But I am not sure why it happens but there is 2 probability: Source Engine opens files during playtime or re dumping the DLL files over time...
