This mod is so beautiful and has really good concepts and everything, and honestly in my opinion the broken dialogue makes it even better.

I really reminds me of some really well made old GTA and Elder Scrolls mods that are always horribly translated, or the person was great at everything except writing
I actually like how with some lines, such as 7:41, the voice actor decides to go off-script a bit in favor of phrasing that sounds a little more natural.
Ah yes, the QUIET-22 is my favourite weapon of all time...
apparently that's a real thing but a bullet
This is a very well put-together mod, if I do say so myself, minus (plus?) the broken dialogue.
Also...
@18:34
Y'all gonna ignore how this man's hands are beyond broken? Think working on that drone did a number on him.
18:00 that guy looks at the other like "How long will we be stuck with this dude?"
The sand bag thing could be called a barricade
You mean a barnacle
18:34 what happened to his fingers? their like bending upwards somehow

He’s double jointed
I had fun playing this after not having played Half Life 2 in a while. I loved the Russians doing their American accents and I only had one glitch with the drop-pod, and the SteamID being incorrect.
Not gonna lie , the mod looks really really neat , custom stuff are nice , characters are likeable ...
we love henry
15:19 there's only one person I know of who's able to think of something like this and it's mahogany
I can only imagine the VAs trying to make sense of whatever this engrish script is supposed to be trying to convey.
besides the janky voice lines this mod looks amazing.
One of my favorite mods. Actually, my favorite after Snowdrop Escape/Minerva.
2:04 the Silenced .22 is in Fallout: New Vegas
this mod feels like a video from the "written by a bot" series
link to the walking up the stairs video?
Another funny video about a random mod
a quiet 22 is any suppressed .22 gun
whats the song when you ran out of hard drive space
2:22 timpleweebs=rosenberger
It’s windway not windtown and it’s in Sheboygan
what's the video with the stairs
stairs are very nice by robert benfer
This kinda reminds me of the HOMEFRONT wth?
Why does the Mahogany guy sound like my grandma?
Why are you using a shotgun on a headcrab?
"The sentences are grammaticaly correct but they don't mean anything"
It feels like it's a mandatory thing if you want to be a proper Half-life 2 russian mod, that's their charm
i want to capture taht essence of nonsense writing, i want to be fluent in nonspeak
It's probably russian sayings 1:1 translated to english. Shake up the old days definitely sounds just about right
Yeah I can confirm that "shake the old days" looks like an attempt of literal translation of the russian idiom _«тряхнуть стариной»_ , which is a figure of speech that simply means to do smth again after a long period of time.
I don't know an equivalent idiom in English, but probably "dust off the cobwebs" is somewhat close enough.
*UPD* : well, now I see that in another thread people already found that stylistically, the phrase "just like the old days" suits better here . Still, I would like to note that this is actually closer to another russian idiom, _«как в старые добрые времена»_ , but still it fits perfectly to the situation as these phrases are used interchangeably in Russian.
@@niiiiiiiiiiiia as a russian, this is true
i've never heard of тряхнуть стариной specifically, but you're definitely right
"Shake up the old days" is an expression that is difficult to translate into a straight line. In fact, it means "It's time to do as in the old days/in the days of my youth", "It's time to remember how it was done in our time/before", "It's time to shake the dust off old skills"
"Just like the old times" is the closest translation I can think of. The point is, the devs didn't even try. You put the Russian "Тряхнуть стариной" into Google Translate, and you get exactly "Shake the old days". I mean, it's not really hard to find an appropriate expression, I guess they just didn't have anyone on the team who speaks English on the level of knowing idiomatic expressions and stuff.
"just like the old days" sounds like the best translation for that expression IMO
"Тряхнуть стариной" - It's kinda fun to try to reverse-translate all the literal stuff.
Вот я только хотел предположить, что это неудачная попытка перевести "тряхнуть стариной"
Shake off the rust. Brush off the cobwebs. Just like the old days.
3:18 I love the sheer anxiety and uncertainty in this guy's face.
Shake the old days definitely means "Тряхнуть стариной", which should translate to something like "shake off the rust"
Speaking of Russian mods, you should totally play ESHQ for HL1, it's so "good" :)
Should have used Google Translate)
@@andrewch4066 They probably did use Google Translate. The issue is that Google Translate isn't good at translating idioms or analogies due to the fact that they have meanings behind them that an AI would not be able to comprehend without an absurd amount of computing or learning.

Honestly I love the broken dialog. Truly feels like an alternate universe. A Half Life universe at that.
I love Henry but he looks like the type of guy to use a shotgun to kill a headcrab

27:29 There isn't a town called Windtown in Wisconson, but there is a place called Windpoint in Wisconson, so that's neat I guess?
And any time you use the music at 30:45, it always convinces me that my headphones got unplugged
After a brief Google search, it looks like there's also a hotel in Brazil named Windtown as well.
Aside from the dialogue, the game looks beautiful. I hope someone could port these maps or at least a hand full of them to Garry's Mod. They look like they could be fun to look and and walk around.
It's like a running thing in mods made by non-English speakers. A fine quality and goofy dialogues, like in Snowrdop Escape
These maps looks better than any map valve ever made)))
I love these vids where stuff is kinda okay but also really weird
This is the closest we'll get to a playable story of John Freeman from Full-Life consequences.
No one's made a mod for that yet? After almost a decade?
the pants are dead
If I'm not mistaken, the shoes are "Timbs" for short. Full name is Timberlands I think.
The sand bag structure may be "barricade"?
"Fortification", perhaps?
it's just sandbags
"place of protection", mayhaps?
I really want to see someone google translate a Deadwater Gaming video
I should try this mod, it looks pretty cool
thats a good idea
How would you google translate a video though?
Apparently, according to Google, there's a town in South Africa called Windtown and it has a hotel called "Windtown Lagoon Hotel"
Oh, and there's a "Windtown Cemetery" in Illinois (Google maps)
Really does sound like a town that'd be in the Midwest somewhere, lol (coming from someone who's lived in the Midwest her whole life)
Also there is a Windtown Ireland. And as a fellow Midwesterner, may I introduce you to Sandwich Illinois. Yes its real.
@@PINKBOY1006 XD
Was going to say that sounded very Midwestern. Glad I'm not completely insane.
I've been watching y'all for like 2 or 3 years, and it's amazing seeing the quality of your content evolve!
As a resident of Windtown WI, I demand an appology for this video. Me and my cat are the proud owners of 5 acres of farmland and waste disposal factories.
dokta whawee in da wadar woom
@@DeadwaterGaming Even in comments you guys manage to say things that are way funnier than they should be xD
@@DeadwaterGaming Appology accepted.
Considering the Half-Life series is known for some absolutely amazingly banal dialogue like "Why do we all have to wear these ridiculous ties" or "Sometimes, I dream about cheese", mistranslated mod content is like... pretty normal tbh, lol
This is the second time I've ever heard anyone say "William nilliam" and the first time is me.
Rebel 1: "You smell that? It's freedom."
Rebel 2: *Slowly turns his head and looks at you with guilt-riddled eyes*
27:33 apparently there’s a Windtown in Ireland
24:08 The voice actor spells "rendezvous" in the british accent, but the writers probably didn't know how to write rendezvous, so they just wrote how it's pronounced in the 'merican accent "raan day voo".
This mod reminds me of something called an Escher sentence. It is a sentence that seems normal at first, but makes less and less sense the more you think of it. A famous example of an Essure sentence is the following:
"More people have been to Berlin than I have."
"This is a tower defence section"
"I mean, Henry's got it, honestly"
*immediately gets tackled head-on by a fast zombie*
In this timeline the combine put carbon monoxide in the air
Honestly, this mod looks pretty cool. I wish we could see more of half life through the eyes of a rebel.
Agreed. Partaking in the near-impossible effort of revolting and overthrowing the Overwatch Combine as a mere soldier among thousands and thousands of others is enjoyable.
22:42 "This technology has gone to the bad"
19:59
My only possible guess to what “It’s time to shake up the old days”, is “it’s time to shake things up just like the good old days”
No one cares if you are first, but congratulations
You have given them the forbidden knowledge
Those english dialogs make sense only if you're Russian. Probably this comment sounds purely like them.
1:03 that's what the government wants to to think
garageband is just the trial version of logic pro, which is basically a DAW swiss army knife with too many strings attached
Every time Zander speaks, I always imagine a sunglasses emoji at the end of each sentence.
"It's time to shake the old days. 😎"
"Yeah... I remember that piece of metal. 😎"
youtube likes to recommend this video to me every few months and everytime im like "yea you know what it is time for a rewatch"
This mod may have problems with the dialogue, but visually it looks decent. And the designs for the levels, NPCs(namely the different types of Combine Soldiers), and some of the weapons(excluding the pistol and crossbow) is actually pretty good.
I, as a Russian, don’t understand why almost every piece of a media made by Russians is bad, or at least worse than piece of media doesn’t made by Russians. This mod in my opinion is good, but nonetheless, what we Russian people don’t have that everyone else has?
The mod itself is fine, it's mainly the poor translation to english that makes it seem off. A lot of these mods would do well to get a native english speaker on the team to help translate and write the script for western players, not sure why most don't bother with that.
@@DeadwaterGaming It’s really hard to break the language barrier, especially if you do it seriously

that and google translate doesnt understand slangs and dialects
@@ddable. I’m not sure if this mod is translated through Google Translator, but just in general you’re right

Bro you commented in the first 15 seconds
Ah , hell yea , new mahogany timbleweeb advenchers

I was so hyper during the development of this mod and when it released I can't sat how much I was disappointed. The best what it has done are new assets and effects, feels a little bit fresh, but the story, dialogues, characters, locations, gameplay, new features everything is just awful. After that I played "Blasted Lands", nobody knows about that mod and I found out about it just because developer of "Snowdrop Escape" recommended it. As I said it is an unknown mod, small, cheap you may say, but it is great.
2:50 the "black covering on the barrel" is a compensator 🤓
Actually, it's a muzzle weight 🤓
Barricades... They're called barricades....
there's nothing funnier than the characters dropping shitty one liners that don't make sense
At 28:11 he says you can't run over a gunship. THAT'S A DROPSHIP.
Turns out you can't run over those either.
I feel the need to say that y'alls videos are really good for my creativity for some reason. Like there's a noticeable difference between art I create when I'm listening to y'alls videos vs when I'm not listening to anything :)
where you notified when the recording stopped and stopped playing? if you didn't that would be really sad because I want a part 2
There was a windows notification sound in the background and we alt-tabbed to check, luckily.
So we'll probably maybe possibly do part 2.

I am glad I wasn't the only one who had UA-cam not working right for like a day or two, I cleared my cookies and everything trying to fix that goddamned bug before giving up and it eventually just fixed itself. It wasn't that big a deal for me, but it was obnoxious I couldn't access my playlists. I wanted my music smh
The weird grammatically correct but also nonsensical dialogue reminds me of Iconoclasts.
That game really suffered from its bad translations.

The soundtrack is made in *grodge band* :)

18:54 Bots in L4D when they get stuck and decides to teleport.
So y'all are fairly talented voice actors, And as far as I know at least one of you has theatrical experience… both of you seem to have production experience... Have you all considered just redoing some of the dialogue on some of the better story mods, uploading it as an add-on To Mod db?
I mean don't Get me wrong here.. clearly there is some.. Work flow disconnects... Especially in theCases where they actually have reasonable voice actors or just voice actors that clearly speak English primarily... As, a lot of these things could have been LOL.. smoothed over really quicklyIf maybe they were provided with some context... or didn't read lines directly Regardless of how nonsensical...
But either way, You are in kind of A Unique position Where you might actually be some of the best people for the job in this particular regard... Even if it's not Asked for or even known it was needed on the creators end. Either way you all Spend a fair amount of time making fun of these things, And it's Usually The secondary translation, orThe translation from someone that in no way is equipped to do so... And it's funny don't get me wrong.. But it's not like malicious usually on their end LOL.... Granted sometimes it is, but in a lot of cases... I don't know.. I was trying to say something better than this but honestly Samsung speech to text is absolutely making this a nightmare... For something that's probably neverGonna be responded to or read.
Now I really wanna download this mod and compare dialogues lol
27:40
Funnily enough I live in Wisconsin and I know we have a town called "Watertown" which is eerily similar to "Windtown"
“Shake the old days” will now be in my every day vocabulary
